Change of Heart by T.A. Williams (Beneath Italian Skies #2)
Two families at war and Alice finds herself caught in the middle. Can she re-write a story as old as time? When cutbacks force Alice out of her assistant manager role at a Devonshire stately home, she turns her sights elsewhere: the picturesque hills above the historic city of Parma. An aristocratic Italian family are looking to open their medieval castle to the public, and Alice is just the woman for the job. Four years ago, a life-changing accident pushed Alice into depression, but the beauty and charm of the Italian countryside works its magic in brightening her days. Especially when she keeps bumping into handsome Luca… But rivalries run deep in the town, and Alice’s work – not to mention her potential love life – are caught in the middle of a long-standing feud between two families. With her job and future happiness in peril, can Alice save the future of the castle, and bring two warring families together?

My Review: There's not a lot of romance novels that feature an heroine with mobility problems or characters with physical issue. Kudos to the author that developed a strong and clever heroine that I loved. This is a story about changes but also a story about learning to accept us and what we are even if we are not as perfect as the world seems to ask us. The plot is lovely, fast placed and made me smile and root for the characters. I appreciated the setting as Parma is a wonderful city and the area is a great place. Plus the mouth-watering food and the people. I also like that the author talks about cold as it can be quite cold in North Italy. That said I read the story in one setting, a sort of let's-see-how-it-is and ending the book because there was a next chapter I wanted to read. I think that T.A. Williams should send a copy of his novels to the Parma tourist board as this book will make armchair travel a lot of people to Parma. A well plotted, poignant, and compelling story that I strongly recommend Many thanks to Canelo and Rachel's Random Resources for this digital copy, all opinions are mine
Author Bio: I’m a man. And a pretty old man as well. I did languages at university a long time ago and then lived and worked in France and Switzerland before going to Italy for seven years as a teacher of English. My Italian wife and I then came back to the UK with our little daughter (now long-since grown up) where I ran a big English language school for many years. We now live in a sleepy little village in Devonshire. I’ve been writing almost all my life but it was only ten years ago that I finally managed to find a publisher who liked my work enough to offer me my first contract. The fact that I am now writing escapist romance is something I still find hard to explain. My early books were thrillers and historical novels and I now also write cozy crime, but my first love has always been romance. Maybe it’s because there are so many horrible things happening in the world today that I feel I need to do my best to provide something to cheer my readers up. My books provide escapism to some gorgeous locations and descriptions of food to make you drool.

📚 🅱🅾🅾🅺 🆃🅾🆄🆁 🆁🅴🆅🅸🅴🆆 📚 𝗞𝗘𝗘𝗣 𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗠 𝗖𝗟𝗢𝗦𝗘 by Sophie Flynn It's my turn to share my thoughts on Keep Them Close as part of the book tour hosted by Love Books Tours. As always, thank you for my spot on the tour, and for the advance copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. 𝗠𝗬 𝗥𝗘𝗩𝗜𝗘𝗪 This book had me at Hello! What a great plot. You think you can trust the person sat on the other side of that Internet connection? Would you share with them your deepest secrets? This was a tense, occasionally unsettling, but compelling story, with issues of trust, secrets, and danger. This is the first book I have read by Sophie Flynn and I thoroughly enjoyed it. There must be real people out there, pouring their hearts out to “friends” in chat rooms, groups, and DMs. Main character Emily has done just that. She has befriended someone on the mums support forum and divulged personal secrets that she hasn’t even told husband. Yet, when she realises she has gone too far and deletes her account, she realises she is being stalked. TwoIsTrouble did not appreciate being cut off. I liked Emily and have seen how the Web appears to give a measure of anonymity, while actually storing your deepest darkest secrets to be exploited by the unscrupulous. I could feel myself willing Emily to disconnect and make her profiles private, but that would have made this a very short story. I could emphasis with her, being a parent, but wanted to give her a good talking to at the same time. The story maintained a good pace throughout, slowly building the tempo towards what I found to be a most satisfying ending. I enjoyed this book and read it over just two sittings. Would I recommend it to others? Most definitely. I gave Keep Them Close, by Sophie Flynn, five stars, and look forward to reading more from her soon.  #ad #gifted #aftereverythingyoudid #stephaniesowden #canelo #lovebookstours #mystery #cult #booklover #bookstagrammers #johnsbookshelf #bookstabloggers #bookreader #blogtour #bookstagram #bibliophile #bookshelf #bookaddict #igreads #bookblog #readabook #johnsbookshelfblogs #bookaholic #fortheloveofbooks #goodreadschallenge2022 (at Southampton, England, U.K.) https://www.instagram.com/p/CgDGowVrBDm/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

New Post has been published on The Bouncing Tigger Reads
New Post has been published on http://www.tiggerreviews.com/how-often-do-you-lie-jody-discusses-this/
How often do you Lie? Jody discusses this.
An Interview with Jody Sabral
Can you tell your readers something about why you chose this particular topic to write about? What appealed to you about it? Why do you think it is different and your approach is unique?
I think the topic chose me in a way. I lived with an alcoholic for a year and felt the need to write about it in a realistic way. To capture the absolute denial of it and what the impact of that can be on everyone who comes into contact with it. I think it’s unique in the sense that I lived up close with it and therefore have a real passion for the issue. I’m not just using it as a plot ploy in a flippant manner. I hope it starts a positive conversation around alcoholism as I feel it’s something that is lacking in this country. I’ve always felt that literature and art can have a much longer lasting impact than that of news, the other business I’m in, so I guess I wanted to bring this to my novel, which I hope is also extremely entertaining. I still recall scenes from books I read ten or fifteen years ago and they make me think differently about the world we live in.
How long do you think about a topic before deciding to write about it? Do you have a set of notes or a notebook where you write down topics that appeal before making a decision as to which topic this time?
Not really, for me it’s a very organic process. I think we all have themes in our lives that we feel strongly about for one reason or another and my writing is born from that. I’ve just completed a screenplay in which the main themes were born out of reading an article in the newspaper and a conversation with my niece. I felt strongly about the issues so I wanted to write about them.
3. How long does it take to research a topic before you write? And for this book?
It depends. I tend to pull off my experiences and those of friends. I’m not writing police procedurals. Yes, I have an investigation and an investigator but the emphasis is on the characters affected by it and the impact it has on them. So I tend to write about people’s emotions, which I think is about connections and the human condition. People fascinate me, so my writing is born out of conversations with others and observations about how people deal with a crisis.
How helpful do you find authority figures such as the police when you say you want to write about them? Is there a good way to approach them in your experience?
As a journalist I’ve always found them very helpful and happy to cooperate. I have contacts who will read to see if it’s plausible and they will tell me if it’s not working.
5. How many times have you been rejected before your first novel was accepted or before this book was accepted?
I’m proud to say upwards of sixty-five rejections in my writing career. Obviously with this novel it was different as my agent handled those rejections. But with the two earlier books, the first CHANGING BORDERS I sent it out to almost thirty agents and got a heap of rejections. The second, THE MOVEMENT, which I won the CWA Debut Dagger for got me lots of interest from agents, yet many more rejections. I met my agent on the back end of those rejections. He had the foresight to ask me what I was working on next and a partnership was formed. He’s been with me since the conception of I NEVER LIE and it’s a very supportive and nurturing relationship. Finally I have someone behind me, believing in my work. What I will say to aspiring writers is just keep at it, at some point something will give.
Did you need to self-publish on e-books before a publisher took you up?
I think you self-publish because you want to put it out there. To move on to a new project. To draw a line under it. But self-publishing has its pitfalls. Selling a book is a full time job.
Would you recommend self-publishing and building an audience before approaching a publisher? If so, what benefits do you see that it might have for the aspiring novelist?
I found self-publishing to be a very tough sell even though I had an audience of millions at the time that I wrote CHANGING BORDERS because I was a foreign correspondent on TV regularly. I write. I’m not a marketing person so I found that part of it tricky. It depends on your skills. If you’re good at sales and marketing I suppose you’d be in with a better chance than me. I don’t think there’s one perfect route. It’s a personal journey, but the important point is that you keep writing because at the end of the day it’s the words that will eventually pay off and resonate with someone. I like the support I have with an agent and publisher behind me because writing is a solitary job.
Does writing provide sufficient income to live on? And how long did it take before this happened?
Not yet. This is my first novel to be released via a publisher, so let’s see!
What is the funniest thing that happened to you on a book tour?
I haven’t done a book tour yet, so not sure I can answer this. But some interesting people have a copy of my first book. Sir Patrick Stewart has one via someone I met on a plane, and the musician Moby. I inscribed on Moby’s copy, ‘if you like it Tweet it!’ Obviously he didn’t, but you have to be your own ambassador for your work in a competitive environment. Maybe one day he’ll tweet about I NEVER LIE, who knows!
What do you read when you are ill in bed?
I don’t get ill very often. I write a lot in bed though.
 What is your favourite genre?
Crime obviously. I like Sci-fi too because it makes you think about the bigger questions in life as in ‘why are we here?’
If you recommend a living author – who would it be? A dead author?
That’s tough because there are so many amazing authors dead and alive. J G Ballard is my all time fav. Living, there’s just so many. It’s like asking me what my favourite song is, it changes all the time. I really love Gillian Flynn, S J Watson, Nicki French, John Le Carre’s earlier works…. I mean the list just goes on.
Which author had the most influence on your writing? Your writing style? Your writing genre?
Dan Brown possibly? I’m not a literary writer. It’s pacy and not overly descriptive. I don’t read as much as I used to, which may shock some people, but that’s because I find that other writer’s voices get into my own and presently I’m trying to hone my own, which I think I did with I NEVER LIE. I found my voice with this book and that’s a very satisfying feeling.
In your opinion who is the funniest author now writing?
I think the best comedy writers of the moment for me are Sharon Horgan and Phoebe Waller-Bridge, oh and Charlie Brooker, but they write for TV, which I’m also attempting to do after attending an evening class in screenwriting. I tend to watch more comedy on TV than read it in books.
Have you ever tried to imitate another author’s style? And if so, why?
When I was retraining from journalist to novelist during my MA at City University I used to copy sentences from Raymond Chandler’s books word for word into a notebook then change the adjectives for my own, I did this so I could try to capture the show aspect of writing rather than tell. As a broadcast journalist I’ve had to work on my description a lot because news writing is stripped back and we don’t use a lot of adjectives. I think Chandler’s writing is all about the atmosphere, which he creates through even just describing the materials in a room. He is my guru of descriptive writing.
What have you done with the things you wrote when in school?
Sadly, they’ve been lost over the years as I left home at sixteen and moved endlessly to a million different flats and many countries. So if you find a diary in a charity shop somewhere one day that has me name in it, please return it to me!

Well hello there lovely reader, today is the day I get to tell you how awesome Where The Dead Fall by MJ Lee is and why you should add it to that TBR pile, one more book won’t hurt! This is the second book in the Ridpath crime thriller series and is only available in e-book format from the 11th of April. You haven’t read the first one I hear you say, well you can treat yourself to both books here!
Thank-you to Tracy of the Compulsive Readers blog for having me on – board the tour and Canelo Publisher for the kindle copy of the book via Netgalley to review in preparation for this tour.
About The Author
Martin has spent most of his adult life writing in one form or another. As a University researcher in history, he wrote pages of notes on reams of obscure topics. As a social worker with Vietnamese refugees, he wrote memoranda. And, as the creative director of an advertising agency, he has written print and press ads, tv commercials, short films and innumerable backs of cornflake packets and hotel websites. He has spent 25 years of his life working outside the North of England. In London, Hong Kong, Taipei, Singapore, Bangkok and Shanghai, winning awards from Cannes, One Show, D&AD, New York and London Festivals, and the United Nations. When he’s not writing, he splits his time between the UK and Asia, taking pleasure in playing with his daughter, researching his family history, single-handedly solving the problem of the French wine lake and wishing he were George Clooney.
“DI Ridpath is in the process of getting his life back together when everything goes wrong. Driving to meet his daughter, he is caught in a gruesome motorway accident, in which a near-naked man is rundown by a lorry, while fleeing from a lone gunman. As Ridpath closes Manchester’s road network in search of the assailant, one question remains: why did nobody else see him? Ridpath’s investigations soon unearth a number of inconsistencies, which pulls the police force itself into question, and hint at something sinister to come. For Manchester is on the brink of a fresh surge of violence unlike anything it has seen in decades, and Ridpath must battle this unprecedented conflict along with his own demons. One thing is for sure. There will be blood on the streets…”
From page one this crime thriller packed one hell of a punch, it didn’t even lull you into a false sense of security which got the heart racing and myself as the reader completely and utterly gripped! It begins with a prologue type chapter from an individual who has been kidnapped and is trying to escape. From that point the book was an almighty rollercoaster of twists.
The chapters are labelled in days of an investigation which allows you to keep up to date with the sequence of events as it unfolds, with a dual type narrative that gave breadcrumbs of details that kept you hooked on every word. What a whirlwind. I completely fell in love with detective inspector Thomas Ridpath who has recently been through the ringer, he’s intelligent and I admired him for sticking to his detective guns when everyone else was trying to brush off his thoughts on a case of a death and a man with a gun on the motorway! He has recently gone back to work after having treatment for cancer, I think a lot of his team are brushing him off and his ability to remember things correctly is constantly questioned, this is partly due to his colleagues thinking what he saw was down to stress and / or the drugs he takes, I think this pushes him to show he can still do his job; cancer remission or not.
I liked that MJ Lee has research things that may seem trivial, for instance the way MIT is set up, as well as forensic pathology. This, for me allows a sense of authenticity within the novel, although I know all crime thriller writers research this type of thing, MJ appears to have fully emerged himself into making sure aspects are factually correct. This reader really appreciated that attention to detail! Thank-you!
Now we have our hero, now the villains; well aren’t they another slice of evil? I felt that they were pretty much masterminds of crime and murder. The perfect ratio of light and dark in this action packed crime thriller, the more you dig into the storyline the more you can feel yourself getting sucked in to its fast paced cat and mouse type narrative. It’s very excellent!
Where The Dead Fall is an enjoyably compelling read filled to the brim with surprises and twists. This is a crime thriller not to be missed!
Thank – you for visiting my blog today on my day of the tour!

📚 🅱🅾🅾🅺 🆃🅾🆄🆁 🆁🅴🆅🅸🅴🆆 📚 𝗦𝗤𝗨𝗜𝗥𝗥𝗘𝗟 𝗚𝗜𝗥𝗟: 𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗘 by Tristan Palmgren 🐿️🐿️🐿️🐿️ today I'm thrilled to share my review of Squirrel Girl: Universe as part of the book tour hosted by The Book Network. Thank you for my spot of the tour and for the advance copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. 𝗠𝗬 𝗥𝗘𝗩𝗜𝗘𝗪 This isn’t the first of the Marvel Heroines stories from Aconyte Books that I have read, so I knew the bar had been set quite high. Squirrel Girl rose to the challenge effortlessly. What make this different from any other book, I hear you say. The impending interstellar war, a lack of oxygen, and a very real shortage of squirrels. How will Squirrel Girl and her friends survive? While there were undoubtedly serious moments of drama, I found the majority of this book to be just so much fun to read. I mean, proper belly laughs and even a snort. My apologies to the lady on the train who must have thought I was in the middle of a seizure... I wasn’t aware of Doreen Green aka Squirrel Girl before reading this book, but I’m keen to know more of her history. In all honesty, all of the characters were new to me, not being much of a comic reader, but they were all interesting. I’m looking at this in much the same way as anyone who likes the MCU films and associated television programmes but had never read a Marvel comic or heard of the characters and their respective histories. What more can I say, other than it has opened another part of Marvel to me and piqued my interest in checking out a few of the comics. Overall, if you want a highly entertaining read, buy this book. You’ll thank me later. 📚 🅱🅻🅾🅶 🆃🅾🆄🆁 🆁🅴🆅🅸🅴🆆 📚 𝗜 𝗞𝗡𝗢𝗪 𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗬𝗢𝗨'𝗥𝗘 𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚 by Phill Featherstone 🫀🫀🫀🫀🫀 Today, I'm thrilled to share my thoughts on I Know What You're Thinking, as part of the blog tour hosted by @randomthingstours. Thanks you so much for my spot on the tour, and for my copy of the book in exchange for my honest review. MY REVIEW I had been looking forward to reading this book for a while, and it did not disappoint. While the start wasn’t fast paced, it was just right to introduce the main characters and story. I think it would have felt rushed any other way. But then it picked up the pace and proved it really was a well written, compelling, and exciting thriller. I found the plot of abducting young people and harvesting their organs to have similarities, however tenuous, with William Burke and William Hare, grave robbers who committed eighteen murders between 1927-28, to sell the bodies to a medical school for dissection. Beth and Cameron are a couple who have been inseparable for years. They also have a special link which would become indispensable as the story progressed. The depth of their relationship was heart-warming and I found myself constantly willing them to succeed together. I was impressed with the way the author was able to portray each of the characters so realistically. It was so much easier to empathise with some, while feeling fear, elation, and darkness in others. This kind of character development is brilliant in any genre. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, which I am more than happy to recommend, not just to readers of YA fiction, but to anyone wanting a thrilling read. I gave I Know What V You’re Thinking, by Phill Featherstone, five hearts 🫀 My blog tour review with additional author and book info is live.
