LT2 masterpost

If it was up to me, we would get an autumn or winter EP. Since it’s not up to me at all, here, enjoy this post with everything we know so far of LT2, which is to say, not much at all. Everything here is hypothetical. I’ll be updating every time I see something relevant. A little disclaimer that while this is a masterpost (kinda), it could be read as discourse (duh, it’s also a theory), AND it’s also by me, and you shouldn’t expect me to be serious at this point.

Due to me restraining myself, there’s no reference to any of the times he’s mentioned his guitar skills and him improving but I hope you know I cried every single time.

I’m also linking my old pinned here. It was written before AFHF and around the free merch thing that didn’t lead to much, but I still think I made some good points.

Friday 28th of January 2022. Almost two years after Walls. It’s a Friday. It’s a 28th. What else can I say?

2020

He said back on May 2th 2020 he wasn’t writing anything new yet.

Interestingly enough, he’s said many times after that that the album’s not ready cause he has no new experiences to drawn from. I won’t call him out because he does it himself.

May 4th. He liked a tweet from DMA’s Johnny Took saying they had to go write together again. Louis has been credited as an influence for them and (kind of) participated in their previous record, so I’m assuming he meant for their music and not his, but you never know.

Nothing(literally nothing??? how did we survive) until 11th of July. We all know what happened that day. We all celebrated it. Nonetheless, that’s not what I’m talking about here.

(x) So, by the beginning of July 2020 he was working on concepts and ideas for the new album. That was fifteen months ago. I know perfection takes time but…

Brief summary of important things that happened from then until the next mention of new music:

Louis left Syco!!!! 10 days later he rescheduled the tour for the first time. He followed Matt Vines on Twitter, probably so we could publicly shame him into doing something. Also, the 10thanniversary. He followed more people I wish he hadn’t.

Then more nothing until September. Not even a single tweet. The first merch drop was on the 28th of August but he just RT’ed the tweet. He first mentioned Free my Meal on the 25th of September. Then on October 1st Walls hit #1 on a lot of countries and Louis was incredibly happy and excited about it ^^

And then, that same day, October 1st, 2020, he dropped this bomb:

He also said it was too soon to be sharing new lyrics with us (x)

And, obviously, this tweet which is actually what made me start this whole post. I would hope you know mate.

He also told us he was cooking "banger after banger" and that he was incorporating more social themes into his music (x)(x) (I believe any social issue is a political issue but that’s not the point rn).

COPY OF A COPY OF A COPY?!?!

These next paragraphs are brought to you by my mind not remembering things and me not having any links. I’m assuming COACOAC came from those writing sessions that supposedly happened in October. Or in LA but I have no idea if he actually was in LA at any point other than a Daily Mail article putting him there on December which would have been too late, but I do remember that someone said he was in the studio in LA last autumn???? A rumor. Maybe. IDK. Did I mention already all of this is very hypothetical?? Well, this is it. I can’t even remember if this was October or November or what. So, take this with a grain of salt.

I’m also… taking the liberty to assume, if you must, that Copy wasn’t meant to be a Walls reject because it sounds more mature and darker and it has a vastly different tone that Walls songs. I know he’s said that song probably isn’t getting into the album, but I want to have faith (in the future) that I’m getting a studio version. (But also, Louis, if you’re reading this, first of all GET OUT OF MY BLOG second of all, please don’t ever feel pressured again to add a song to the album because we have already heard it before. It’s your art and it should always be under your own terms).

So yeah, I believe that Copy is either one of those four songs (then imagine the other three??!!) or was written around the 1st of October date.

Then not much important (other than sharing more about Marcus Rashford fight against food poverty and the 2nd merch drop) until he announced the livestream on the 24th of November. (x)

It wasn’t until a few days before the livestream date we even thought again about new music (jk, I know we’re always thinking about new Louis’ music). So, December 9th/10th, 2020. Nine months ago. We got our first taste of new music!

Ok, so that’s it for 2020. (I feel like I’m missing something from September 17th because tweet was deleted but maybe he was still talking about cucumbers. We might never know. Unless I understand how Tumblr tags work). Expected, cause Walls was released in 2020. We needed to let it sit for a while.

2021

Another Summary: Louis third tweet of the year was telling the UK government off. So was the fifth. What a good beginning. On the 26th of January, he said he prefers pancakes over waffles. I hope he meant pancakes other than his own. More importantly, he tweeted the infamous “you lot read into things too much”. Don’t get me started, Tomlinson. Don’t. Then the 31st came around and Walls was one. He tweeted this. How wise. And Project Defenceless happened!!

15th of February!! Who cares about Valentine Day when the next day we got this? ♥

So…AN EP?? AN EP?? PLEASE RELEASE AN EP.

“I’m sure I will have something out this year but unlikely that will be the album”. Unlikely but not impossible. Also. A single would be good. This is the second time he mentions releasing something in 2021 and he sounds surer about it than the first time around.

He also said that he isn’t sure we will get a studio version of Copy. And that the best bridges from Walls to LT2 are Walls, OTB, KMM and Copy. Can’t wait!

Then we jump to March 6th when he announced he was going to create his own management company. “Sometimes action is needed first to encourage the motivation and belief”. As we can tell he was already manifesting some stuff which will lead us to the numerology stuff/Tesla… kidding. Or not. We might never know.

On the 22nd of March he answered some questions:

He told us music was still his main focus ♥ mwha. (x) I included this tweet to guilt-trip him into giving us music in case he’s reading this even after I told him to leave. ILY.

On the 25th he left for Mexico until April 10th. You could assume it was just for the documentary where we got ten seconds of footage or admit the obvious: LT2 its a Mexican baby!!

On the 26th (so, not so far apart from that first 369) we got the first Faith in the Future mention: (x)

Back then we were innocent people who had no idea what was coming upon us. We still have no idea because what the fuck does he mean with these. Please explain. I have one braincell and I don’t use it enough for this. I’m linking some theories.

On the 30th of March he confirmed he was already working on the documentary. So AFHF was already on the works. Will it take this long for us to get the Veeps numbers? We also got this tweet: "Got a decent chorus idea down" (x).

Same person that got the “something out this year” exclusive. If you know something share with the class. Also. Is this Change? I feel like this could be Change but I also assume he wrote Change after hanging out with his friends or being in Doncaster. But who knows.

(x) 15th of April. The second "Faith in the future".

On the 19th of April he announced that he had something BIG for us later on the year which turned out to be the Away From Home Festival ♥♥ (x) I love him so much.

Then on the 28th he announced the 369 merch drop (which it’s probably the Walls drop? Except that the TOU and KMM ones were “drop 1 and drop 2” and this was drop 369 which, again, makes no sense) but we still don’t know what 369 means.

Into May’ 21 we go.

He rescheduled tour again. And dropped another bomb (x).

He announced he has signed with BMG as an independent artist by RTing this tweet on May 10th. The article also says that he’s already working on writing and recording LT2. The timing… we don’t know. What this deal involves… we don’t know either. Bear with me here because I have a lot to say about this.

I think the deal is only a distribution one, but that BMG are interested in Louis and what he (us) could bring to the table. They were either present at the festival or watching it, but officially they had no involvement at all with it (everything is credited either to Louis own company, 78 Productions, or Charlie Lightening’s company). That’s the case for both giveaways too; the vinyl one and the tickets for the festival.

I think it would be an unbelievably bad move not to test the waters with BMG now or soon-ish. At least a single, to see how it performs. Due to the circumstances, it’s obvious there’re certain limitations on place but I want to see how they push it, whether the radio play exist this time around and if the song is playlisted and promoted and all that… I would also love to know, since it says he signed with BMG UK, but it also states it’s a global deal, how things are going to go on the US and other countries.

Yes, yes. I know those are all questions and no answers. But I know the same as you, sadly. If any of you know more than you’re letting on… again, share with the class.

Where was I? Yes, on the 25th of May Louis had a great day writing (x). Since the first time he had mentioned he was officially writing to this date there’s almost eight months. And I believe he was writing before October’ 20.

He followed Robert Harvey that day and, on the 28th of May (why is it always the 28th???) he was spotted at the studio for the first time.

June was an interesting month for the fandom ♥. Lots of LHL content which I will love and cherish for the rest of times. On June 4th, June 9th, and June 10th he was spotted at the studio, but I believe he was there more days.

This was posted on June 6th and captioned Studio. Charlie also shared it with “Mega tunes being put down, can’t wait for this @louist91 #louistomlinson #LT2” as the caption. This gives me 2019 (Elton-Joint) vibes. I like it. Feels like we’re getting closer to something.

He added the Milano date on the 9th too which I’m mentioning because I’m going alone. Anyone wanna go with me please? I’m nice and I never eat anything before a concert so you can have my food. On other news. It didn’t come home.

During July he was at the studio at least three days too. Probably more. Feels like more with all the fan pictures we got. Or was that June? Anyway, July 1st and 9th we got some videos from Robert Harvey and wearesuperhi, which is who Louis has been working with the most, that we know of. I don’t know for sure they’re from that day. And on July 5th we got an article and lots of pictures of Louis looking really good outside the studio.

On the 12th of July the first fans started getting the free, 369 bucket hat and print. We still don’t know what the purpose was other than to thanks fans. Maybe that was it. I want answers and I still think it relates to a future project (see theories above), but it could also just be a bridge with the Walls breaking.

He didn’t tweet about anything interesting for a while, mostly because he lost his phone (he either throwed it in the air or smashed it who knows). Then on the 29th of July he announced the festival!

I’m glossing over it because there’s already been a lot of talk about it (rightfully) and while it was a wonderful thing, it doesn’t have much to do with LT2.

Let’s talk Change!

On August 3rd he tweeted this about the setlist.

We didn’t get it, obviously. Because who was going to get that. But we read too much into things. Alright.

On the 16thof August Dave Gibson shared this post tagged #LT2 with the eyes emojis 👀👀👀. I believe this has to do both with Change but also with whatever else came out of that Mexico trip.

So, on the 30th of August we got Change and we cried, and we know that Change is going in the new album. He said it. With those exact words. He also said he was “getting a feeling for it”. This has to meant he already has a general idea of the vibe of the new album and what’s going in it!!!!!! (Right? RIGHT?).

Anyway, let’s go back a few weeks because some other things happened on August. He was at the studio a few more times. Or it was suggested that he was there. On the 17th and the 18th. (Why was it so time-pressing to be at the studio instead of rehearsing for the festival? There was no studio at all on the documentary. Which makes sense, but again, then why?).

On the day of the festival we got another mention of Faith in The Future that made me feel part of a cult ngl. The words were flashing on the screen for less than a second. Okay.

And then he tweeted those words again after watching the livestream/documentary on the 4th of September (x). This is what makes me suspect it's either the name of the album or of the single.

On the same day, we got some interesting quotes about LT2 on the documentary.

“Soon I’ll have to think about me second album, which in my head I’ll get the tour out of the way and then I’ll address that. So, I hadn’t really given it much thought, to be honest”.

“When every day is the same is hard to feel creative and it’s hard to have any kind of proper inspiration”.

“As season started to come back, I started writing again and it was great and some of these songs turned out alright”.

And I think this is it. I might be overlooking some important details but that’s what we know and what we don’t know.

So. Conclusions. That’s what you missed on Glee. I do believe the album is, if not mostly done, partially there. And yes, this post is pointless and never-ending but it’s all in here if you need to tell Louis “Hey, you said this, mate”.

Fall or Rise of Empires

This is what Mike Adams said today. He said something bad could happen over night, that is to the extent the dollar crashes, they'll try to blame the crazy Redditters, the conservatives, for destroying the money, they'll come up with crazy excuses, conspiracy theories, and then say how they saved us by giving us Biden Coins or whatever they want to call it. They are trying to have one centralized global digital currency, no cash, no decentralized cryptocurrencies. So, I agree this could happen at any time, especially if three or more stimulus checks come out in 2021, as they spend more and more money, as people demand silver, gold, etc. The centralized banking system could fall in the next few years or sooner. As that happens, either the good guys or the crazy globalists and baby eaters can take over as that happens. So, in other words, we are in a major transition in global history similar to the rise or fall of other great empires like that of Rome, Babylon, Persia, England, China, etc. But I can't say if we are in the middle of the fall or the rise of an evil authoritarian regime.

There is one case in Arizona which is leading towards potential ballot auditing. There may be other legal cases pending in other states in the United States of America. New court cases may rise. Others are ongoing. Some may be, if they haven't yet, potentially, refiled or retried. In some cases, you can do that. It's not double-jeopardy in some cases. It depends but you can sometimes do this depending on the details. A federal case for example could be then tried on the state level. That is not double jeopardy. You can pressure your local counties to call for ballot audits today. Join the revolution.

Nullifying Federal Executive Orders

North Dakota is planning to nullify (on a state level) unconstitutional federal executive orders. If you're not living in this state, you should either go there or encourage your state to call up North Dakota. Hello Texas, Idaho, Wyoming, Arizona, etc. In the world of rock paper scissor, you can see state and federal power. However, never underestimate the power of the county sheriff which trumps over them. You should make friends with your local sheriffs and talk to them about the rule of law regarding what you have to do in your county, legally speaking. Don't go against the sheriffs. Find out what they expect from you as a citizen of the county you're living in.

A lower Social Credit Score means you will not be able to buy and sell, travel, have food, have protection, have safety, have a job, have schooling, have a house, have children, have parents, have organs, have water, have power, have Internet, have apps, have trash, have doctors, have hospitals, have health care. When you call 911 and say somebody cut off your arm and you are bleeding to death, the operator will answer the phone and say, "Sorry, your social credit score is too low, please raise it to an acceptable level and try your call again. 2. I have lost count of the Americans who are black that have spoken out against the Critical Race Theory (CRT) equating it to the teachings of the Ku Klux Klan. Numerous states have outlawed it from their schools. Virginia does not have any adult legislators.

3. Did you read that the Republican candidate for Governor in Arizona has pledged to finish building their section of border wall? The rebellion is bubbling.

4. The Arizona hand count of the ballots has been completed. There are two other steps in the audit that have not been completed so it may be August before there is a report given.

5. As many as 20 other states are discussing election audits. All of the states should be audited. Every nonprofit organization has an annual audit, publicly traded companies get audited, how come it is not standard procedure to audit our elections? Where are Virginia’s Republicans? Hiding under their blankies?

Most of our elected officials are champions at talking and strutting. I long for real American leadership.

There are some quite serious issues that need to be addressed. No, Climate Change is not one of them despite the media demonstrating they are universally poor with both math and science. Climate Change can be summed up with fact that the Ice Age did not end because millions of years ago some Neanderthal ancestor of mine started driving an SUV.

I am reading a great book which is a thorough analysis of Climate Change written by Steven E. Koonin called “Unsettled”. Mr. Koonin is a true expert, candid in his disdain for the media’s distortion of the facts that have been and are issued on the topic of Climate Change. It is easy to see that the media types are either clueless about science or severely slanted in their view because they never let the facts stand in the way of a good story.

While our “faux leaders” talk and strut about foolishness such as Critical Race Theory (all whites are racists) and Modern Monetary Theory (governments can borrow all the money they want without damaging that country’s economy), the Chinese have built a country with modern technology, become a mercantile state that controls a number of global industries, bought our officials, own 20 square miles of Texas adjacent to our air force base, and acquired Africa along with most of the rest of the world using their Fools Gold currency. The USA is now just a slave of China because they produce our stuff and own our government, universities, sports teams, and media.

The legacy media is full of meaningless talk devoid of fact but full of opinion and acting as if word jousting accomplishes something. As a capitalist, I find it fascinating to watch the dying so called mainstream media being replaced by new sources of information. CNN is reportedly on the block to be sold and the market will ultimately impact other enormous organizations like Facebook, Twitter, etc. Since they are controlled by China, they should move there.

Are you watching the electricity shortage in California and Texas? Highest cost and lowest reliability is the reality of an electric grid dependent on solar panels and bird slicers called windmills. Virginia better get some adults in leadership or we are going to be in the same fix as California and Texas. Brownouts are not my idea of good government.

Economic trends over the last week saw stock markets struggling to price in the announcements of The Fed about tapering Quantitative Easing (QE) and the effects on interest rates. The increased mortgage interest rates from The Demented Marxists (DMs) gaining control of our government have already slowed the housing market. The peak of this real estate cycle was this past January – February. The Fed now owns such a large percentage of the Treasury market that it is causing mixed signals in the markets. Do not be fooled, as The Fed tampers QE interest rates will rise and the economy will slow. The impact will be determined by a matrix of factors that will be impacted by the actions of The Fed. The highest probability is that this will be a brutal economic event.

About the only supply chain that is not disrupted is toilet paper. It is in surplus. Major supply chain problems are being reported in China and India due to the spread of a variant of the Wuhan Virus. The current twin negatives are the shortage of parts and the shortage of employees. The 20+ Conservative states that have cut back on the unemployment payments are recovering faster and better than the misnamed Progressive states that continue to pay folks not to work.

Totally lacking leadership, Virginia continues to pay folks not to work. Help wanted signs are everywhere. Every business head I talk with has had to cut back on their business operation because they cannot find anyone to hire. That is not hard to understand when you calculate that by not working, the “unemployed” reportedly receive $60,000 that is not taxable. These distortions are causing inflation. When supply chains get closer to demand, prices will be “sticky”, if they decline.

The current forecast is that oil will hit $100 per barrel by the end of this year. That means $4 per gallon gas. Biden destroyed our energy independence and returned the USA to being energy dependent on OPEC and Russia. Do you find it interesting that China and Russia are prospering with the DMs in control in the USA? Increased gasoline and diesel prices affect the cost of everything, another source of inflation.

Counting the one that is coming in 2022, during my career I will have been through seven recessions caused by one of the following – (1) increased energy prices, (2) interest rates being raised to combat inflation, and (3) increased taxes. The recession coming next year will be the result of a combination of all three of those forces. Get prepared…now.

Cruising is back—here’s what to expect, from ‘vaccinated only’ zones to a revamped buffet

Celebrity Cruises’ Celebrity Edge is set to depart from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on June 26 to sail through the Caribbean with beefed-up health and safety measures, including the crew and all guests ages 16 and older fully vaccinated. Cruises from Royal Caribbean, Carnival and other lines will soon follow.

“Cruise lines have gone to great lengths to make sure there will never be a significant outbreak of Covid-19 on a ship again,” says Gene Sloan, senior reporter for cruise and travel at The Points Guy.

Some have added protocols including social distancing, reduced capacity, face mask policies, temperature screenings, medical facilities designed for Covid-19 testing and more.

“Every major line also now has a plan should even one or two passengers start feeling sick with Covid-like systems,” says Sloan.

Of course, nothing is foolproof: Royal Caribbean recently canceled the first sailings of its newest ship, Odyssey of the Seas, after eight crew members tested positive for Covid; six were asymptomatic and two had mild symptoms, according to NBC 6 in Miami. The ship’s inaugural cruise, scheduled to leave from Fort Lauderdale on July 3, has been pushed back to July 31.

Royal Caribbean CEO Michael Bayley said in a statement that “the positive cases were identified after the vaccination was given and before they were fully effective,” and that the company delayed the cruise out of an “abundance of caution.”

Still, travelers are ready to hit the high seas. World cruises are selling out, the maiden voyage for the new Disney Wish, launching next year, is already booked solid, and cabins this summer are hard to come by, partly due to fewer ships in the water and reduced capacity, as well as people rebooking trips that were canceled over the past year.

“There’s been a lot of pent-up demand,” says Chris Gray Faust, managing editor at Cruise Critic.

Here’s what travelers can expect as they start cruising again.

Less crowded ships and ports

If you can find a cabin on a ship, it could be a great time to sail due to the current capacity reductions required by the CDC, says Lisa McGregor, owner of Passport Pleasures Luxury Travel, a Florida-based agency that specializes in cruise voyages.

“Just like when we were flying last year and the planes were empty, now you have an opportunity to sail with fewer people and have a lot more breathing room,” says McGregor.

Another perk, according to Sloan: “The ports that cruises visit also are less crowded than usual, so you’ll be welcomed with open arms. Many of the places cruise ships go rely heavily on tourism to survive, and they haven’t had much business in more than a year. They are thrilled that cruise ships are coming back.”

Some money-saving deals

Even though there’s reduced capacity and high demand, cruise lines are enticing people with sales and promotions. For instance, Carnival is offering 40% off sailings, Royal Caribbean is giving 60% off a second passenger, Princess is throwing in shipboard credits, and even Crystal — a super luxury line with butlers — is extending discounts.

But according to Anne Scully, a partner at Embark Beyond, she’s seeing waitlists for popular cruises and demand extending into 2022 and 2023. “Things are pretty tight right now,” she says.

Showing proof of a vaccination

Vaccination requirements vary by cruise line and port of departure, but some ships require proof of vaccination or have perks for vaccinated travelers. Cruise lines will have a way to indicate vaccinated and unvaccinated passengers, whether it’s with a wristband or a mark on your seacard.

Gray Faust says that when she recently traveled on Royal Caribbean’s Adventure of the Seas, which departed from the Bahamas, she had to show her original vaccination card when checking in on the ship and had to upload it online to get in and out of the Bahamas.

The vaccine card was also useful on land. “The Bahamas will not let people eat indoors unless they’re vaccinated,” says Faust. “So we had to show our vaccine card to eat inside a restaurant.”

Vaccination and mask zones

Cruises won’t only be available to people who have been vaccinated — but you’ll have a much more enjoyable time if you are.

According to CDC rules, ships that have at least 95% of crew and passengers fully vaccinated can use their discretion when it comes to mask rules. Ships that don’t meet those numbers can have designated areas for fully vaccinated passengers where masks and physical distancing are optional.

Royal Caribbean, for example, just released its new health and safety protocols for the July and August sailings from Miami on Freedom of the Seas. The line will designate some bars, lounges, restaurants, and events for vaccinated guests only, with no masks required. In the Main Dining Room, there will be areas for vaccinated guests to dine separately.

Unvaccinated guests will also need to pay for additional Covid testing.

“It’s expected these sentiments will be mirrored for the line’s other ships, particularly the ones sailing from Florida and Texas,” says travel expert Pauline Frommer.

A different kind of buffet

Despite early reports that the legendary cruise ship buffets would fall victim to Covid, it looks like they are here to stay. They’re just going to be different, and the rules will change from line to line.

The big takeaway: Many buffets will no longer be self-service, and many will require reservations or reduced numbers in the dining room.

“You go through the line and you point at something and the crew will serve it to you,” says Faust, of the revamped buffet she experienced on Adventure of the Seas. “They’ll give you as much as you want and you still have all the choices that you’re used to.”

Cleaner ships

CDC guidelines require enhanced cleaning procedures, but some cruise lines are going even further. “They’ve implemented all sorts of new safety protocols on ships, many behind the scenes,” says Sloan. “Some lines have spent millions revamping air handling systems on ships, for instance, so that no cabin shares the same air.”

Gone are the days when you can show up on a ship and wing it — in the post-pandemic era, you’ll need to make a lot of reservations, from shows to a spot at the gym. Faust points out that this is a way for cruise lines to discreetly do contact tracing, should something go wrong.

New technologies

The cruise experience is also going high-tech to help keep passengers safe. Besides the ubiquitous QR code menus you see at many restaurants these days, you can expect contactless payment systems, virtual reservations and virtual lines, thermal temperature checks, UV sanitization and more.

New ships

While it’s not pandemic-related, a lot of new ships will set sail.

Over the next 18 months, look for new ships from: Disney, the company’s first launch in more than a decade; Carnival, with a groundbreaking deck-top roller coaster on the Mardi Gras; Royal Caribbean, including what will be the world’s largest ship; Crystal Cruises, Lindblad Expeditions, Seabourn, Viking, Regent and more.

“New ships are going to have more amenities; they’re going to be more modern,” says Faust. “It’s like staying in a tired hotel room versus a new hotel room.”

Small-ship expedition cruising will be hot

According to Bob Simpson, vice president of expedition cruising at Abercrombie & Kent, twice as many guests booked the company’s small-ship expedition cruises in Q2 of this year compared with the same time in 2019.

“The very elements that define [small-ship cruising] — remote destinations, small ships, outdoor adventures and a focus on learning — closely align with what travelers value most right now,” he says.

Flexibility will be key

According to McGregor, the cruise lines want to make sure you’re comfortable booking a trip — and are willing to work with you if you need to make a change. “There are flexible cancellation policies throughout the industry.”

But check the fine print. “Make sure you understand what the lines are requiring,” says McGregor. “What’s the cancellation policy? Is it cash back or a future cruise?”

Evolving rules and regulations

Getting to this point where cruises are embarking hasn’t been easy, and regulations are changing by the minute.

For instance, in October 2020, the CDC issued a “framework for conditional sailing order” saying that cruise lines could resume voyages if they follow health and safety rules, including a mandate that a cruise ship must have 98% of its crew and 95% of its passengers fully vaccinated, as well as protocols and policies for social distancing, reduced capacity, face masks, temperature screenings, Covid-19 testing and more.

But on June 18, a federal Florida judge ruled that the CDC’s orders were an overreach of power and issued a preliminary injunction that prevents the CDC from enforcing its guidelines in Florida. In April, the state had sued the CDC, demanding that it allow cruise lines to immediately resume sailing from U.S. ports.

Meanwhile, a new Texas state law says that businesses can’t require vaccines. It hasn’t been determined if this will apply to cruise lines, but Carnival Cruise Line is still planning to start fully vaccinated voyages out of Galveston on July 3.

A slow return to normal

Sloan, who predicts that things might not return to normal until well into 2022, has witnessed the gradual resumption of cruising firsthand. In November 2020, he was on the high-profile SeaDream 1 — the first Caribbean cruise since the start of the pandemic — when Covid broke out on the ship. Last week, he sailed in the Caribbean on Royal Caribbean’s Adventure of the Seas.

“The development of Covid-19 vaccines has been a game-changer,” says Sloan. “When the outbreak occurred on SeaDream 1, nobody on the ship was vaccinated for Covid-19. They tested every passenger for Covid-19 before boarding, and every passenger was negative. But without a vaccine, there wasn’t a second layer of defense to stop Covid-19 from spreading should a passenger later test positive.”

And that’s what happened according to Sloan — a passenger who initially tested negative started feeling ill, subsequently tested positive and began spreading to others.

“Now, with so many passengers vaccinated — on Adventure of the Seas, it was 94% of all passengers — it is unlikely that Covid-19 would spread if a passenger fell ill,” says Sloan.

Faust was surprised by how normal things already seemed on her cruise: “I played a ton of trivia. I heard live bands. I went to different restaurants. I sat by the pool,” she says.

Checking in with your doctor

If you are deciding whether or not to sail, discuss your health risks with your doctor, stay up to date on where Americans can travel and seek guidance from the CDC, the World Health Organization and other health authorities.

According to Dr. Robert L. Quigley, senior vice president and global medical director of International SOS, the best way to protect yourself and others is to get fully vaccinated at least two weeks prior to your trip.

“On the ship itself, the CDC recommends maintaining six feet of social distance from anyone who is not traveling with you, both indoors and outdoors,” says Quigley. “And when engaging in activities with other passengers, be sure to also wear a mask, avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth, and wash your hands frequently, particularly after touching any surface.”

Choosing your destination wisely is also important, says Quigley. “Places with low Covid-19 infection rates and/or high vaccination rates should represent the lowest risk to you in your travels. Clearly multiple port stops, as part of the cruise, only increases your chance of exposure,” says Quigley. “So do some research ahead of time.”

“The sea dies of thirst. “The most immediate thing is to guarantee the survival of companies. We have cash reserves, but they are not infinite. With zero income and having to face high fixed costs and the avalanche of cancellations that is taking place, the hole in the airlines' cash register is large, ”explains Javier Gándara, president of the Association of Airlines (ALA). At Easter, only 3,500 of the planned 75,000 flights have operated as freighters and for repatriations.

“Until now, economic policy has focused on three axes: liquidity, ERTEs and support for disadvantaged groups. The philosophy of these programs is that the shock of the pandemic is transitory. Baleária has abolished the dividend and is going to refinance its debt. But, like many companies, “with the 2008 crisis we learned that we needed a cash reserve, which we now have; we are in a better situation ”, highlights Utor.

Big tourism companies can face the pandemic with more cushion. The problem is small ones. Hospitality is a highly fragmented business, with more than 300,000 establishments, of which four out of ten invoice less than 200,000 euros per year and have margins of less than 6%, according to a report by Bain and EY, which indicates that 55% of the firms will require external financing before April 26.

Some agency such as Viajes Urbis has already filed for bankruptcy before their liquidity problems, reports Rafael Gallego, vice president of CEAV (Spanish Confederation of Travel Agencies). As has happened with the British airline Flybe, says Javier Gándara. And the experts consulted think that many more will occur if the situation continues and the government does not take action. Tour operators, travel agencies, cruises, bars and restaurants are the businesses that have the highest risk in the current situation. India's pollution is killing millions, yet it's not a poll agenda | India News

New Delhi, India - It was the winter of 2017 when Utsav, then only two years old, was first diagnosed with asthma, a respiratory disease that affects the lungs. Since then, he has been forced to cover his nose or wear a mask to protect himself from the dust and smog, as India's capital continues to battle a pollution crisis. On the days that he feels worse, Utsav has to use the nebuliser with the help of his parents. "Whenever the air quality depletes, Utsav's condition worsens. He is quite young but he starts asking for medicines and nebuliser whenever he starts feeling uneasy," said his mother Priya as they waited to see the doctor in a state-run hospital specialising in chest ailments in North Delhi.

Utsav's parents say they are unable to afford quality masks for him "We cannot even afford good quality masks," said the 33-year-old mother, an accountant in a local consultancy firm. Her husband Kamal, also 33, is a data entry operator with a food company. During the winter months of November and December, when air quality is at its worst in New Delhi, the average poisonous atmospheric particulate matter that has a diameter of less than 2.5 micrometer (or PM2.5), often hits the emergency figure of nearly 440, more than 12 times the US government's recommended limit. The city's average PM2.5 level is around 114.

Earlier this year, Sandhya Kamal, a mother of two, finally realised she would not be able to live in a polluted New Delhi any more and decided to move to Chandigarh, 250km north of India's capital. "Delhi's pollution had gotten on our nerves. Living in the city became a recurring nightmare," her husband Saras Kamal, who quit his job as a designer with a leading English newspaper, told Al Jazeera from Chandigarh. The Kamals are among a growing community of "pollution refugees", as The Washington Post put it last year, referring to a growing trend among a section of New Delhi residents seeking a better life in less polluted parts of India.

Fatal air

India, the world's fastest growing economy, is currently holding its seven-phase general elections. Over 900 million eligible voters are expected to cast their votes in the elections, which end on May 19. While a number of national issues, including issues of national security and economy, have been in the headlines throughout the ongoing elections, there is barely any discussion over the country's pollution crisis in the campaigns. India's toxic air claimed 1.24 million lives in 2017 - 12.5 percent of total deaths recorded that year in the country, according to a study published in Lancet Planetary Health. The study said more Indians died due to pollution than cancer, tuberculosis, AIDS and diabetes put together. The 2018 Global Environmental Performance Index placed India at 177 out of 180 countries, down more than 20 spots from 155 in 2014. In March this year, another study showed that India is home to 15 of the world's 20 most polluted cities. All four satellite cities surrounding New Delhi - Gurugram, Ghaziabad, Faridabad and Noida - figured in the top six while the national capital itself, home to nearly 30 million people, was placed at 11 out of 20. Yet, Indian politicians seeking a place in India's 543-member lower house of parliament hardly ever talk about the deadly pollution around them in their campaign speeches. "Pollution is not an issue for political parties because these leaders are not affected by it. The prime minister's residence is spread across hectares and is full of greenery. What problem is he facing due to air pollution?" asked Priya, who goes by her first name.

No consensus on climate issues

Environment activists and scholars say they have seen a recent change in the attitude of the political parties or the government with regards to pollution. In January, India launched a National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) aimed at cutting pollution in India's 102 worst affected cities by 20 to 30 percent by the year 2024. But the NCAP has been criticised by environmentalists, who say it lacks focus and ambition. According to an article in Down to Earth, a New Delhi-based environment magazine, 2019 is the first time climate change has made it to poll manifestos of both the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition Congress. The BJP has vowed to focus on the 102 most polluted cities and to establish India's renewable energy capacity of 175 gigawatts by 2022. Environmentalist Polash Mukherjee says there is little consensus among political parties on tackling pollution "The biggest challenge is gaining a political consensus on recognising the problem and that is something that has eluded our country so far," he told Al Jazeera. While Mukherjee credits the incumbent BJP government for making sanitation and cleanliness electoral agenda, he thinks it's not enough. "Of course, implementation is still a long way to go. There are so many areas where measures have been taken only on paper," he said, citing solid waste management as an example. "Eighty percent of India's local municipal bodies are not doing it." The World Bank calculates that India's losses from pollution-related healthcare expenditure stands at $221bn every year, that is 8.5 percent of its gross domestic product (GDP). This is more than the government spends on healthcare every year. Dr Singh points out that ordinary citizens are the worst victims of the pollution caused by unregulated urbanisation and increasing industrialisation. "The kind of burden that is going to fall on us due to diseases related to air pollution is going to be enormous in terms of cost," he said. Tesla Stock Has Come Too Far, Too Fast

Last October, Tesla (TSLA) announced a big Q3 earnings beat. While the electric vehicle pioneer’s adjusted EPS of $1.86 was down from $2.90 a year earlier (when the company was benefiting from an unusually rich sales mix), the analyst consensus had called for a quarterly loss.

This solid result helped snap Tesla stock out of a multiyear funk. The on-time opening of Tesla’s Gigafactory Shanghai, strong Q4 production and delivery figures, and growing excitement about the upcoming Model Y crossover added fuel to the fire. As a result, the stock has more than doubled in the last three months, surging to a new all-time high well above $500.

Indeed, there are several big growth opportunities around the corner for Tesla. That said, these opportunities are not as much of a slam dunk as bulls seem to assume. As a result, Tesla stock does not look attractive at its current valuation.

The Model Y is coming soon

The biggest growth catalyst coming for Tesla is the introduction of the Model Y midsize crossover later this year. In the U.S., China, and many other markets around the world, consumer preferences have shifted decisively in favor of crossovers rather than sedans. As such, it’s impressive that Tesla has had so much success with a vehicle lineup tilted sharply towards sedans.

Last year, Elon Musk predicted that demand for the Model Y could be 50-100% higher than for the Model 3, due to crossover’s popularity with consumers. That seems like a reasonable estimate.

However, it’s not clear that 2019 Model 3 sales are the right baseline to measure from. Many Model 3 customers have bought the car because they wanted an affordable Tesla, not necessarily because they prefer sedans to crossovers. As a result, as Model Y availability grows, Tesla’s new crossover is likely to cannibalize demand for the Model 3.

This wouldn’t be unprecedented. Deliveries of the pricey Model S and Model X fell about 33% year over year in 2019 as Model 3 output surged. Furthermore, there are signs that Model 3 demand in the U.S. has already flattened out, even before the Model Y has become available. (The Model 3 was the best-selling car in California in the second half of 2018 but fell to third place for the first nine months of 2019 as a whole.)

Adding to the pressure on Tesla, a host of legacy automakers and new start-ups are beginning to introduce EVs and plug-in hybrids at a rapid pace in the U.S. In late 2018, Automotive News reported that there were nearly 100 new electrified models due to arrive by 2022. If anything, that number has grown. Moreover, most of these automakers will continue to benefit from federal tax credits of up to $7,500 per vehicle for several years: credits that have fully phased out for Tesla purchases.

I still expect Tesla’s sales in the U.S. to grow over the next two years as Model Y production ramps up. But it’s unlikely that the company’s total deliveries in the U.S. will double, let alone triple.

Made-in-China Model 3s

The recent launch of Model 3 production in China could also be a catalyst for faster growth. For one thing, the opening of Gigafactory Shanghai, which can produce at least 3,000 vehicles per week, has significantly increased Tesla’s global production capacity.

Moreover, by moving to local production in China, the company can avoid stiff tariffs on vehicle imports. This will allow it to price its vehicles more competitively, bolstering demand. For example, Tesla initially priced the made-in-China Standard Range Plus model at 13% less than it had been charging for a comparable U.S.-made Model 3. It recently cut the price further, and is contemplating further price reductions later this year as it localizes production of more components, according to Bloomberg.

That said, Tesla is opening Gigafactory Shanghai at an inauspicious time. After years of growth powered by generous government incentives, EV sales fell in China last year, contracting along with the broader auto market. A roughly 50% cut to government subsidies for EVs and plug-in hybrids last summer contributed to this downturn in a big way.

For the moment, China is holding off on previous plans to phase out subsidies entirely. The Model 3 qualifies for a subsidy of 24,750 yuan and is exempt from the 10% purchase tax that applies to non-electric vehicles. But if these subsidies/tax breaks are removed in the next few years, it will put further pressure on EV sales and offset much of the savings to consumers from localizing Tesla production.

Additionally, even with the subsidies and recent price reduction, the starting price for a made-in-China Model 3 is over $43,000. While there are 4.4 million millionaires in China, this price tag still puts the Model 3 out of reach for the vast majority of Chinese consumers.

Lower prices for the Model 3 and introduction of the Model Y should allow Tesla to fill out its current production capacity of 150,000 units per year in Shanghai and possibly grow beyond that. However, unless the company can bring prices significantly lower over the next few years, it may struggle to sell 500,000 vehicles annually in China. (That’s the plant’s theoretical production capacity, which could be reached following a second phase of construction.)

Other international growth opportunities

Globally, Model 3 deliveries surged more than 40% year over year in the second half of 2019, despite evidence that growth in the U.S. (Tesla’s largest market by far) had slowed or even stalled entirely. That points to growing adoption in international markets, aside from just China.

This isn’t surprising, as Tesla only began Model 3 deliveries in Europe in February 2019. Deliveries began even later in the U.K. The introduction of the Model Y will provide a further sales lift, as in other markets. Tesla’s decision to build a new Gigafactory in Berlin (announced in November) shows that it is bullish about its future in Europe.

A broader product lineup should help the company continue to grow in Europe in 2020 and 2021. Nevertheless, there’s no reason to believe the market will behave differently than the U.S., where demand for Tesla’s three in-production models appears to have flattened out.

For example, Tesla’s two biggest markets in Europe in 2019 were Norway and the Netherlands. However, sales in the Netherlands surged late in the year ahead of the expiration of EV tax incentives. That will likely lead to a sharp reversal in 2020. Meanwhile, plug-in vehicles already represent 56% of the market in Norway, so Tesla doesn’t have the same runway for growth that it enjoys in other countries where EVs are still a small (but fast-growing) piece of the market.

Perhaps the company can gain a better foothold in Germany thanks to the new Gigafactory. That market clearly holds a lot of potential. In addition to being the largest country in Europe, the government recently increased incentives for EV purchases. Still, German automakers will undoubtedly mount a stiff challenge to Tesla in their home market. With growth likely to slow in Tesla’s top two European markets, I expect the company’s sales in Europe to continue to trail its U.S. sales by a wide margin for the foreseeable future.

Wait for a pullback

Momentum could continue to carry Tesla stock higher in the near term, especially if the company projects another year of ~50% growth in deliveries for 2020 in conjunction with its Q4 earnings report. But the company will eventually have to back up the hype with spectacular revenue growth and margin improvement to justify its current market cap of nearly $100 billion.

Tesla clearly has plenty of room to grow. An expanded vehicle lineup (starting with the Model Y later this year) and the launch of local production in China and Europe will give it a good chance to grow annual sales to around 1 million units over the next 3-5 years.

Yet, even that level of output isn’t likely to generate enough profit to justify Tesla’s current valuation. After all, with 367,500 deliveries in 2019, the company is on track for roughly breakeven earnings on a full-year basis, even excluding stock-based compensation, which is nearing $1 billion annually.

If everything goes perfectly, Tesla stock could deliver spectacular returns over the next decade, even from its current starting point. However, with various impediments likely to offset some of the growth potential from its expanded vehicle lineup and global production footprint, long-term investors should stay away from the stock unless/until it surrenders most of its gains of the past three months.
