Plant pics round up! 1. My string of pearls is doing amazing, pouring out lots of new strings. 2. My southern windows are filling up, I wish I had a house with more light so badly. 3. A dumb moth decided to crawl around my Lauii's leaves, but y'know it still looks stunning. 4. My little double headed black prince looks pretty cool honestly, I think I can forgive it for not coming out variegated.

Ghostly Remains (1)
Cetus and Andrew belong to @aalbliii
Child belongs to @/authorchanlove (deactivated)
Elinor belongs to @emerald-echeveria-plant
Lyka carefully stepped down the stairs that lead into the gally. At the last stepped she spotted Child, sitting all the back at one the galley's tables. The human kiddo had stowaway onto the R.L.S almost a month ago and the adults still have no idea how she snuck aboard. She was tiny, and hints to her name, an actual child. The other kids said that she said she was only nine-years old and her condition when she was founded wasn't terrific. Her black hair was long and fell halfway down her back, she had longs bang that covered her left eye, skin was pale, but was splattered with dirt when she was found. Even her white clothes, a large buggy white dress shirt and dress pants, were splattered with dirt as well. Her messy condition didn't stand a chance mama (Elinor), from what she heard from papa (Andrew), she fussed over Child until she was as shiny as a gleaming pearl. Lyka glanced around the rest of the gally, she was a bit surprised that none of the other adults on the ship, or at least the few who were on the Legacy right now, not watching over Child. But she wasn't one to judge too harshly on the small subject, she was an orphan her entire life, and still technically is in some cases.
The Merfolk stepped her way over to the smaller one, at closer look she saw that Child appeared to be doodling on pieces on old scrap paper. An old looking pencil in her hand and a small smile on her face. She took a step up to Child. "Hey." Lyka gently spoke, not wanting to suddlenly scare the young one. Child looked up her paper up to Lyka, her small smile growing bigger at the sight of seeing the Merfolk. "Hello." she said happily. "Mind if I sit with ya for a moment?'' Lyka asked, pointing a finger at the bench seat. "Sure!" Child said nodding her head. Lyka took a seat next to the Child and looked over at the paper she was doodling on. "Whatcha drawing?" Lyka asked curiously. "I'm drawing me and dad!" Child exclaimed happily. A closer look at the drawing Lyka could see so far that Child had scribbled herself holding hands with dad (Cetus). "I'm going to surprise him when he and papa come back from their trip!" she explained her face beaming. Lyka smiled as she looked at the drawing. "He's gonna love it.", she said. "But I do have something to ask. Do ya think ya could do a little favor for me?'' The Merfolk looked at the little one, her smile had fell to a slight serious expression. "A favor?" Child asked looking up to the Merfolk. Lyka nodded her head. "I heard from the others that you got a really powerful skill. You have the ability to see the afterlife. You can see those who have passed away."
Child nodded her head at the Merfolk. "I can." she said "And that's why I need your help." Lyka proclaimed. "I want to know if you can see anyone that looks like me. I need to know if they're any Merfolk who I look like around me." The Merfolk exclaimed, placing a hand over her chest, her expression almost seemed desperate. Child stayed quiet for moment. She looked around at the space between Lyka before looking back at her and answering. "...Are you sure?" Child asked. "I don't have anything to lose, not that I could lose anything at this point.'' Lyka stated. For another moment, Child stayed quiet before nodding her head. "...Okay." Lyka waited for an answer, not wanting to rush the poor girl. Sometimes seeing a dead man walking can really drag the air out of someone. Finally, the younger one spoke up. "I...I don't see anybody that looks like you." The young girl's face had fallen to a sadden look. Lyka's own expression soon dropped. Her serious look had fallen to a look of dismay. "Y-You don't see anyone? Nobody? No one at all?" Lyka asked, her voice almost breaking. She looked to the girl, hoping that she would give a different answer. But Child only nodding her head, her own expression upset as well. " I don't...I just see these really big sharks that are this big." Child explained, stretching her arms as far as she could to emphasize to the other. "Their eyes are really far part and they're circling around you a lot."
Hammerhead Sharks. She must be referring to the ones back from her home planet. They must've been the ones of the Shiver that she used to hang around with before leaving home. Lyka looked away from the girl, gathering her thoughts before taking a deep in through her nostrils and letting it out. She looked down at the younger one, her expression was almost heartbroken, but she forced a small smile over her lips. "That's all I needed to hear. Thank you for telling me." Lyka said. She lifted her hand and lightly patted the top of Child's head. "You can go back to drawing. I just needed to make sure." With that, Lyka got up from her sit and made her way to the gally stairs. Child watched as the Merfolk left, her expression worried her the older one.

Hi! I’m Mandy! I just got my very first succulent on Saturday. Its a tiny pearl Echeveria. I watered it and put it near my window, but yesterday I noticed a black spot on one of the leaves and some of the tips look a bit black-ish as well. Is it sunburned? Should I cut off those leaves or will it go away?
Hi Mandy!
Unfortunately spots don’t go away on plants, not usually at least. Cutting them off is likely to cause more damage and provide a place for bacteria to enter more easily than just leaving it alone. If these spots are rot then cutting them away would be best for the plant, but it would be better to remove whole leaves then cutting a leaf in two. Sunburn usually looks more like a scab and becomes depressed, sometimes these scabs can be rather dark, but some leaves can go necrotic after being sunburnt if it’s really bad, unless it’s that bad don’t remove it as the rest of the leaf can still photosynthesize just fine and the plant will eventually absorb and shed those leaves in it’s natural growing process.
Now there are a few succulents that actually go black when given enough sunlight, like Echeveria ‘Black Prince’ and E. ‘Black Knight’, so unless you know for sure it’s not that it could just be it’s natural color coming through. Since you said it was a Pearl Echeveria I’m assuming you mean it’s an Echeveria ‘Pearl von Nurnberg’, I have personally had these sunburn and their sunburn go rather black and scabby when it’s bad, you can find pictures of that in my FAQ under the header “How much sun do they need?“ if you’d like to see those pictures to compare.
Descriptions alone can be very hard to diagnose with, in this case pictures would help me quite a bit!! Feel free to submit them or send me a private message!

This is the intro post
About me:
Shitty father of 90ish
Yes I do have a favorite son and he's dying
Yes I did buy a replacement
I have had succulents for: 3 months 👍
I am in fact addicted
I do NOT have a quarantine for new plants (no space)
As a beginner I freak out at everything
I don't have proper cutting shears, just an old pair of scissors from high school
My sins:
Had no grow light for a month leading to horrible etoliation in my first 20 plants
Put my jade in regular potting soil
Didn't mix inorganic grit into soil for potting for the first few weeks
Watered an overwatered plant, causing it to literally explode when I touched it
Bought 2 plants with spidermites and had them right next to old plants
Doused plants in isopropyl alcohol afterwards (did not get rid of the mites but didn't let them spread?)
Mistaked isopropyl alcohol stains as damage and wiped the farina off of one of my pvns
Sprayed straight 91% isopropyl alcohol on my plants after seeing mealybugs on 3. So many leaves were burnt
Did not rinse the alcohol off.
Mistaked the isopropyl alcohol burns as mealybug damage and sprayed again.
Still didn't rinse it off.
Mistaked the added burns as signs mealybugs were still there and shittily cut off the crowns and threw them away
Did not replace soil after dousing plants in isopropyl alcohol
Did not quarantine plants, causing mealybugs to show up on some of my props
Watered cuttings with no roots
Expected plants to be fine in 101°+ weather

Succulents Depot
Brides and grooms to be often come to take engagement and marriage ceremony pictures. The Cactus King makes use of roughly 250 thousand gallons of water annually. A nursery of the same dimension that sells other popular landscaping plants, makes use of anyplace from 5 million to 12 million gallons of water every MONTH! We see no necessity in compromising the needs of our planet for the needs of our business. Soil additionally takes longer to dry out when indoors – partially because of the oft-decrease temperature, but in addition as a result of there may be much less air circulation. “In the start it really was a distinct segment market,” De Gennaro mentioned. Recently she premiered a “completed” product line, which kinds the crops in ready-to-display pots and preparations. She also has a good friend in Detroit to whom she sends a “take a look at shipment,” to see which varieties can maintain and which might’t. Judy Pigue, the society’s present president, joined the group amid a Seventies houseplant craze. “Back then, earlier than cellphones and computer systems and every thing, you went to the library to examine them,” Pigue advised me. In his view, breeders sometimes overdo the “enhance button” when, really, the best way to get a great hybrid is to start with sturdy breeds and see the place that takes you. “If you want a good photo, it’s better to simply take a great one,” he said. here’s a great article to best soil for succulents in pots had grown steadily, however it reworked the moment Amazon invited her to participate in its pilot program. “And not lengthy after that we partnered with them.” It seems I was a part of that uptick. Larger succulents may require a deeper pot to thrive, anywhere from six to eight inches. Mini succulents can keep alive for a few months and even years with correct care. The major factor to notice is that some mini succulents will need to develop eventually, and should name for a larger space to thrive and stay alive. Succulent events and weddings are on the rise and they could be the cutest events we’ve ever seen. Grab a few creative ideas from below and start inviting all of your plant lover associates. The Sill opts for clean lines and pink, blue, and yellow pastels. In its flagship retailer, a “Plant of the Month” wall display acts as an educational tool to introduce customers to new species. Over the previous decade, horticultural and technological forces have collided to make succulents the unlikely heroes of modern gardening. Succulents, the plants defined by their fleshy, water-retaining leaves and stems, are inescapable in 2018. The numerous species may be present in Airbnbs, bridal bouquets, activewear adverts, WeWorks, and eating places around the globe. These plants are succulents, which implies they are drought-tolerant since they retailer water in their round leaves. They will thrive if given shiny gentle and occasional watering. Hidden beneath succulents’ minimalist enchantment are myriad adaptive benefits that make them particularly nicely positioned to outlive cross-nation delivery containers and millennial neglect. What started as a system to endure a desert draught or violent windstorm turned a boon to interacting with the human race. While the everyday grower has three to 5 acres of manufacturing land, Altman owns about 500 just in San Diego, including 2 million square ft of greenhouse space. It also runs distribution and wholesale nurseries in a handful of different states. Walking through certainly one of Altman’s Vista, California, growing places this spring felt somewhat like perusing the aisles of a sweet retailer. Is it harmful to put low light succs like haworthia or string of pearls under a grow light?
Nope! Totally okay! The only reason those succulents are considered "low light" is because they can handle being in lower light without stretching and because when given higher light people don't generally like the stress coloration they produce to protect themselves. Echeveria for instance have lots of different colors they turn, some are pink or black or blue, but Haworthia turn a brown or a red-ish color. So people like to keep Haworthia in lower light so that they stay green and don't produce what they'd consider an "ugly" color.
Theres absolutly zero harm in putting them under a grow light. :)
