I'm applying for a pre-graduate program bc my long shot pipe dream is to get a PhD. But never in my life have I ever sat down and considered that this might be something within reach. so when the application asks me "why do you want your PhD?" my brain makes panicky static noises bc it feels like someone asking me "why do you want to walk on water?" or "why do you want to figure out how to stand on the moon?" obviously because it's cool as hell, to say I did, to unlock the gender neutral title of "Dr." and to spend another handful of years sucking on the government's sweet financial aid teat. And for the queers.

Little Known Biology Facts About D&D Species
Humans: Humans don't exist. The concept comes from misidentified sightings of weasels who have been given adorable people clothes for the purpose of Facebook photos.
Dwarves: Unlike other species who have long lifespans due to divine blessings, Dwarves don't age because their genomes aren't fucking quitters.
Elves: Elves are marsupials. Other species don't notice because instead of storing their young, their pouches are used to store the excess smugness they couldn't fit in their central nervous system.
Goblins/Gnomes: This is actually a single species with extreme sexual dimorphism. If you're wondering which sex is goblins and which is gnomes? Don't worry, so are they.
Halflings: Halflings physically require tea and biscuits once a week or their hair dyes itself edgy colors and they grasp the concept of dubstep. Only large amounts of Enid Blyton books and crumpets can reverse this transformation.
Dragons: Dragons are actually only 15 inches long at full adulthood. It's just that like many lizards they puff up when threatened and you're adventurers so you only meet them when threatening them.
Orcs: In an act often misidentified as raiding, Orcs are the ones putting people clothes on the weasels and sharing the images on facebook. It's part of how they achieve homeostasis.
Kobolds: Basically what they look like TBH. They're funky little lizard guys, what more do you want?

Cuddle Spider
(Yan! Chrollo x Willing! Reader)
It is in human nature to seek warmth. Achieving homeostasis is a characteristic of all living things. When we are cold, we seek warmth, be it physically or emotionally.
Imagine being freezing outside, and right next to you is a fire. But you are not allowed to cuddle up to said fire. You can only admire. A mysterious force is holding you back from gratifying yourself with such a comfort.
That is you right now. You are the one freezing. The cold is a combination of it being winter, and the AC running too much for your liking. Even as you sit on the edge of the bed you feel no warmth. The fire is the very man sitting across from you in a chair, reading and unbothered by the temperatures. And the mysterious force is your conscious.
A part of you wants to cuddle up to him. You're well aware he would be willing to do so. He's not doing a hefty task currently. Even if he only wanted to continue reading, who could hold you and read. His heat would be certainly welcome. Not to mention, the feeling of safety that comes with being wrapped up in his arms.
However, you feel- no, you know this is wrong. This man, though charismatic, intelligent, and thoughtful in his own unique way, is a monster. He took you. Without your consent, he scooped you up and away. And while you no longer have to worry about taxes, morons for customers and coworkers, and feeling touch starved, it doesn't change the fact he is not a good person. He steals things that are considered to be national treasures for the sake of, not even riches nor status, but rather for the thrill of the swiping. And also for a second reason you couldn't quite decipher, though you have your interpretations as to what he meant.
Still. That wasn't even the worst of it. As you look at him now- his raven colored hair hanging over his forehead, covering up that mysterious tattoo and just barely dangling over his eyes. Enigmatic, deep stone colored eyes that carefully scan over the contents of the page that tells a tale of who knows what.- he acts so calm. He is calm, really. But how? After all he's done, the stealing of precious valuables, stealing of people, the mass murderings...You just can't seem to wrap around your head how he can sit here, so relaxed and at ease, all whilst knowing the atrocities he's committed.
And yet, despite this, you still feel that compelling urge to crawl into his lap. To get him to lay down on the bed you now share, and lay down on his chest, his muscular arms creating a safe haven for you. Is it real love you experience, or is it the succumbing to Stockholm Syndrome? The latter being the most likely choice in this scenario. You've been kept here for what you estimate to be about 9 or 10 months. Truthfully, you have no real idea, but this is simply your best guess, judging by the weather and seasons. Though, it feels more like a year or 2 than anything.
Stockholm Syndrome was doing funny things to you. It made you crave the touch of a man you should despise with all your might. You continue to stare and think deeper and deeper about this. Truly, you where the beauty and he was the beast. Although he was an alternate, more backwards version. He started off as the handsome prince, then revealed himself to be a beast.
You and Chrollo. Beauty and the best. You chuckle at the thought. A grave mistake to make while staring at the chap. His observant eyes picked up to you, and a small, amused smirk sneaks onto his face as well.
"What's so funny?" He asked charmingly, as if you had just giggled at a joke he made.
"I-Its...nothin'. Just um...just a dumb thought I had."
"Care to share?"
"As I said, it's pretty dumb. it wasn't even all that funny, really."
"Then what's holding you back from telling me. You seemed as carefree as the wind when you where staring at me a couple of moments ago." His mouth transformed from an amused smirk, to a smug grin. Jerk. Doesn't he know how pretty he looks when he does that? He probably does.
"I-..." Your words die on your tongue and go back down your throat. Of course he knew you where looking. He's Chrollo fucking Lucilfer, of all people.
You have a couple of options. You can compliment him. Distract his thoughts, but you know from experience he will take it, and not give you your reward of changing the subject. You could insult him. But...something tells you not to, and it isn't fear. Just a feeling that you don't want to. You could flip the tables, and ask him what he thinks it is, but he would turn it once more and back to you. He was crafty with his words like that. Lying would be fruitless, as he would know immediately. He knows all your ticks and give aways. Your only option is the truth, and hope he doesn't feel insulted.
"I was just thinking...this whole...thing. It reminds me of beauty and the beast."
"Assuming I'm the beast?" He raises an eyebrow. "and what whole thing are you referring to?"
"I just- Well, um. Okay, yes. in this situation, you are the beast. Or at least, a reverse version. You used to be the handsome prince, and now you're the beast. And the thing I was referring to is...y'know, the not letting me go, thing."
"Hm..." He watches you for a moment with those predatory eyes before speaking. "You thought I was the handsome prince. Though I have revealed my true colors, my looks haven't changed."
Jerk. Handsome jerk.
"Well, yes," You sigh, knowing exactly what he was suggesting. And, it was true. "You're looks haven't changed and...you maybe still are um...y'know. But that doesn't take away from the fact you're a beast."
"I'll take that as a compliment. The beast did anything he could for Belle, if I'm not mistaken. And she did fall for him at some point as well. Are you sure you're still Belle and I'm the beast in this whole 'thing', as you put it?"
"It's only Stockholm Syndrome." You scoff playfully, not being able to help the small smile as you cross your arms.
"Excuse me?"
"I said it was just- oh."
You realize your mistake. A very, very stupid one.
You just admitted you having fallen for him. And that stupid smug grin you so dearly want to either kiss or smack off his face isn't helping.
"L-look, okay, I admit-"
"Why didn't you tell me sooner?" He queries, going to sit beside you on the edge of the bed. His hand started to slowly creep up and down your bicep, causing goosebumps to wake in his touch. Something he felt and was aware of.
"B-because I...W-well.." You nervously spout, looking for any sort of out. You can't tell this...this psychopath your true feelings. Instead of saying something smug, he does something worse:
He waits patiently and silently as you dig yourself into a deeper whole. Of course, you could deny, deny, deny. But...the fire is so close. Despite the force holding you back....if you could only just...relent a little. Besides, you'd feel releived, wouldn't you? Like finally telling your childhood crush you like them while on the playground at recess. That's exactly what this is. You're both on the playground, and he is your silly little crush, and none of this will matter. That doesn't stop your hummingbird of a heart.
Taking in a deep breath, with a face radiating the warmth you wish you'd receive from Chrollo, you finally talk. "Look, I just...Ok. I'm not even sure if I should love you. I mean, yes, I do love you, and I do want to be held and I secretly enjoyed it everytime you held me at night these past couple weeks. I cannot deny the way my h-heart skips everytime your gorgeous eyes observe my every action. Though I find it creepy, I also find it very fascinating. But I still feel like this isn't right. You-You stole many things, killed many people, and outright took me. I just- I just feel like I'm not supposed to love you."
He stares at you quietly for a beat or two after. For a moment, you're afraid you babbled on too fast, and he'd make you repeat yourself. But that's dumb for two reasons. 1. he can see and move faster than you can comprehend. 2. he speaks up after.
"None of your situation calls for normal circumstances. In the world you live in right now, your options are limited."
"Yes, but...-" Your chin is lifted up with his index finger and now you face him. What a sappy, cliche move. It doesn't prevent the already prevalent blush on your face to increase, however.
"You don't have to feel a certain way just because society wouldn't be pleased with it. After all, society wouldn't be pleased about any of this. And yet, no matter what, this will happen, anyway. So why care? It's not as though society has tried to save you."
He raises a point. A fair one, at that. That, doubled with the fact you so badly want to crawl into his arms right now. Who is stopping you? No one has dared help you before. Why should you care?
"I can see the stirring in your mind. You know I'm right." He states. You nod quietly.
"Then, what are you going to do about it?"
After a moment of silence, you give in. You gently push him back down to lay on the bed. At first, his eyebrows raise in surprise. He didn't think he convinced you to go this fast. But his confusion is soon quelled with an answer as you lay down on him, cuddling up to him in a much more wholesome manner than he thought you would. His expression softens. As you lay your head on his chest and curl up to him, he wraps his warm, protective arms around you. The book and mysterious force now gone. It all had dissolved much like a weak resolute in a strong resolvent. He let's out a peaceful, happy sigh, and you follow suit.
"You know, I've known about how you felt for some time." He reveals.
...Honestly, you knew. You are well aware nothing gets passed him. You where only just saving yourself from the embarrassment of admitting, and from the force that had held you back for what felt like a year.
"I know," you sigh "I'm just glad I get to do this now. Is it....is it okay of we do it more often?"
He let's out a handsome chuckle "Of course, my dear. How can I say no to denying you of what you desire when it's something as simple and precious as this? I had a feeling you might like this. Before I took you away, you where quite the cuddle bug."
"Hmm....." You hum. "Cuddle spider." You correct, nuzzling his chest. This felt much better than just staring at him from afar.
"Yes," he chuckles, liking your little pun. "My cuddle spider."

Living Dead Boy
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
was in the mood for some pretty boy recently, so here's a new boy, Knell!
Knell is an undead necromancer who used his high proficiency in alchemy to achieve homeostasis in the never ending cycle of death and life, thus creating a continuous state of undeath.
of course, this type of divine feat does not come without a price...
to complete the ritual of undeath, he sacrificed his entire physical body in exchange for immortality. however, Knell saw this sacrifice as an opportunity rather than a loss.
upon completion of the ritual, Knell had his newly freed consciousness and soul anchored to a body that he felt was more suitable to house his being.
Knell's previous body had always felt wrong to him anyways, like he was living in skin that wasn't his own. ironically, living in someone else's skin is exactly what makes him feel like his true self now.
also fun fact, his eyes are branded with the alchemical symbols for death and life, which are repeated again on his forehead and necklace!

another anti-psych post from your neighborhood patient-therapist
In my last post I talked about the kinds of basic needs people and communities have, and asked what it might look like in your community to meet those needs as a baseline. This time we're going to talk more about what happens when communities and individuals are chronically un-/under-served.
Okay so let's break it down this way. We're gonna try looking at just one medical symptom of chronic stress: autonomic dysregulation. It's not going to feel like we are, but I promise that's all we're doing. This is a *serious* symptom and it often comes clustered with others due to the way it functions within the body, which is why I think it is a useful case study here. Autonomic dysfunction, especially chronic dysfunction, can temporarily (though for long spans of time if the dysfunction remains chronic rather than acute) alter the functioning of other systems within the body such as the endocrine system, the reproductive system, cognitive functioning through the hippocampus and amygdala, and muscle functioning, nerve functioning, and others. It is no joke to suggest that long term autonomic dysfunction can often lead to major long term health consequences that are life altering for the person experiencing them. While some can be treated, managed, or even cured, not all can be and this is something I want us all to keep in mind as we consider the need for building communities that do not cause this kind of harm to their people.
Let's look at some potential medical outcomes of autonomic dysfunction, per the Mayo Clinic:
Dizziness and fainting when standing, caused by a sudden drop in blood pressure.
Urinary problems, such as difficulty starting urination, loss of bladder control, difficulty sensing a full bladder and inability to completely empty the bladder. Not being able to completely empty the bladder can lead to urinary tract infections.
Sexual difficulties, including problems achieving or maintaining an erection (erectile dysfunction) or ejaculation problems. In women, problems include vaginal dryness, low libido and difficulty reaching orgasm.
Difficulty digesting food, such as feeling full after a few bites of food, loss of appetite, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal bloating, nausea, vomiting, difficulty swallowing and heartburn. These problems are all due to changes in digestive function.
Inability to recognize low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), because the warning signals, such as getting shaky, aren't there.
Sweating problems, such as sweating too much or too little. These problems affect the ability to regulate body temperature.
Sluggish pupil reaction, making it difficult to adjust from light to dark and seeing well when driving at night.
Exercise intolerance, which can occur if your heart rate stays the same instead of adjusting to your activity level.
Some common comorbid conditions may include Diabetes, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, Parkinson's, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, or an autoimmune disorder. In each of these cases I want you to remember the lens of an individual body being denied, in some way, its base needs (an edocrine hormone, a nutritional component, the internal security of homeostasis, etc), to such an extent that it begins to experience an internal catastrophic failure, as this lens may often be supportive of accommodating your disabled comrades, or yourself, in the future.
I also want us to consider some common social statistics relevant to these conditions. Nearly 4% of the world experiences and autoimmune disorder. Most are women, and Indigenous, Black, and Latina women are at risk than most for several of these. In the United States, there are suspected to be 37.3 million people with diabetes. Diabetes is also considered an autoimmune disorder by researchers, and is one that the Indigenous, Filipino, Indian, Latine, and Black communities are all at higher risk for than white people are, however, risk is also heavily influenced by poverty, and by a family's location with respect to food deserts which grow more and more common. In a truly wild statistic, 80% of lesbians versus 32% of heterosexual women had polycystic ovaries in one study, and 33% of lesbians versus 14% of heterosexual women had progressed to PCOS. Some studies find that transmasculine folks are more likely to PCOS as well.
When we consider the marginalization these groups experience, and the way that marginalization plays out in the social forum, the political forum, in the financial forum, and in the emotional forum, are we really surprised to learn that it plays out in the embodied forum too?
This is what people mean when they talk about social murder. These are health conditions that don't just change lives, they end them. A system that churns out people so chronically sick that their bodies are desperately killing themselves trying to stay alive is a society that has become desperately sick. Diabetes is something we have attributed to individuals, to families, and even every once in a while to corporations, but at what point have we sat down and looked at a society that produces this murderous autoimmune disorder at such high rates and asked the real question: how are we making so many people sick?
The answers are many, and that can feel overwhelming, but I encourage you to start in one place and learn your way around it as well as you can before you even consider moving on. Maybe start with food deserts. They're probably familiar to you, you've heard about them in passing before I imagine, even if you're not really too into this stuff. But ask yourself WHY food deserts are able to exist? What are the mechanics of one being born? How does one stay free from the stain of a grocery store or food market? Are there any places like that near you? If so, what points of leverage might there be in that location for you to break the homeostasis of the food desert? How can you add your weight to efforts already occurring, or stir up sentiment around the idea of a new homeostasis where a grocery store exists? Can you put up flyers or attend town hall meetings? Can you knock doors or phone bank? Can you bring some sugar by your neighbors and comment how frustrating it is you all have to go so far to get your groceries and wonder what's up with that and maybe start scheming together? What kind of store should it be? Bring in a local market? A chain? Build a co-op or merchant's stalls for a four season farmer's market?
Get really into one idea, and get others in on it with you. I bet you aren't the only one who'd like a better status quo.

Druidic Philosophy in Teen Wolf
or at least, what we can discern about their philosophy, based on the three (3) druids we see onscreen
Written for @teenwolf-meta‘s Meta Monday Mondays, Week 1: Ties
A druid’s job is the keep the balance—we’re told this in the show. However, what we’re not told is what exactly this means, or how someone is supposed to go about doing it.
Over the course of 3A, we see three different interpretations in the actions of our three Druids: Jennifer Blake, Marin Morrell, and Alan Deaton.
Jennifer Blake
Due to her trauma, and the rage and bitterness she has harbored for over a decade, Jennifer believes strongly in taking direct action. Seven years ago, her balanced world was thrown sharply and violently out of balancing when Kali—at the urging of Deucalion—murdered her entire pack and attempted to murder Jennifer. We meet her when she’s deep within a plan to right that wrong by any means necessary, consequences and collateral damage be damned.
What’s interesting is that—despite the fact that Kali was the one who personally attacked her—she doesn’t initially seem particularly interested in killing her. Instead, she’s focused on destroying Deucalion, who she sees as responsible for everything that’s happened to the packs.
While she’s willing to kill to achieve her goal, in her own way, she’s trying right the wrongs of the past. Or, in other words, she’s trying to reset the balance.
Marin Morell
Of the three druids we see on screen, Marin is most likely to remain neutral—at least from an external perspective. In fact, I think Marin’s concept of keeping the balance is actually what a lot of people in the fandom seem to assume a druidic idea of balance means—making sure actual balance is maintained between two groups that are at odds with each other.
However, while this view is closest to Marin’s perspective than it is to the beliefs of either of the two other druids, I believe this is still an incomplete understanding of her point of view. Rather than coldly upholding the status quo, she is instead interested mainly in mitigating harm. Instead of fighting Deucalion directly, she believes that the best way to do this is to continue to fulfill the other role of a druid: providing counsel to werewolf packs.
By influencing him in this way, Marin works hard to prevent any further atrocities from the inside. When that course of action is no longer possible, she passes information along to someone she believes can take direct action.
Alan Deaton
Fittingly for a veterinarian, Deaton’s understanding of balance is very different than the others, and is rooted in the concepts of harmony and homeostasis.
Homeostasis is defined as “a stable equilibrium between interdependent elements,” and I believe this is what he fights to achieve. Balance that is fundamentally ecological, rather than mechanical. To Deaton, balance doesn’t mean preventing any one side from gaining too much power, but achieving a state where nature is at peace.
This desire, along with his deeply held morals, is why he is willing to take direct action against the various individuals and supernatural entities that threaten the safety of Beacon Hills and the people who live there. His job is to maintain the balance, but if the ecosystem is out of balance, then the first step is to assist in the creation of that balance. Or rather, that peace.
After all, you can’t maintain something that doesn’t currently exist.

How much sugar does it take for a time lord/Gallifreyan to become hyperactive?
Gallifreyans and sugar-rush hyperactivity
🍬 Sugar Metabolism in Gallifreyans
Gallifreyans have an advanced digestive system capable of breaking down and absorbing nutrients incredibly well, including sugars. Their bodies can synthesise sugar into energy far more efficiently than humans, thanks to a top-of-the-range network of metabolic pathways and other Gallifreyan-specific biological enhancements.
🌀 Hyperactivity
The Threshold for Hyperactivity: Determining a specific amount of sugar that triggers hyperactivity in Gallifreyans is difficult - their bodies process and synthesise sugar so efficiently that typical human benchmarks are pretty inadequate.
Regulatory Mechanisms: Advanced biological systems are in place to regulate their metabolic processes, preventing the typical 'sugar rush' seen in humans. These include feedback loops, artron energy interactions, and adaptive metabolic responses that maintain equilibrium (AKA homeostasis).
Exception to the Rule: However, despite these systems, individual Time Lords may exhibit varying degrees of susceptibility to sugar-induced hyperactivity. Variations in personal physiology, current energy demands, or psychological factors could influence their reaction to sugar intake.
Potential for Over-Synthesis: In scenarios where sugar intake vastly exceeds the body's immediate energy needs, Gallifreyans could theoretically over-synthesise energy. However, their regulatory mechanisms typically manage such surges, redistributing excess energy or temporarily heightening physical and cognitive activities until balance is achieved.
🧁 Case-by-Case Basis
Therefore, determining the exact amount of sugar it takes to make a Time Lord hyperactive is best approached on a case-by-case basis. For some Gallifreyans, a confectionery spree might barely disturb their nap, while for others, a heap of Haribo could result in them screaming and running naked through the corridors of their TARDIS. Now there's an image.
Hope that helped! 😃

@digimon02countdown Day 6 - Hikari & Tailmon
The transition from 1999!Hikari to 2002!Hikari will always be fascinating to me.
At first glance, the once sickness-ridden girl with a somewhat weak constitution seems to have gained quite some spunkiness; she appears to be more confident and up-front, cheeky even, ready to jump into the Digital World with ounces of main character energy to save her brother! She has always been sweet and kind, highly empathetic and maintained her strong opinions towards injustice - and the power of darkness. And at this point, it becomes clear that Homeostasis' messenger still has a lot of trauma to process and baggage to get rid off. She has seen death, she knows how hard it can be to face fears and difficult decisions - and that it's also not easy to get over your own attachment issues.
She is still feeling dependent on Taichi and unable to speak her mind in every situation, raising her hand, drawing attention towards herself when she's uncomfortable or anxious. Her otherworldly connection to the Digital - and other - worlds is haunting her in ways she does not desire, feeling incapable of escaping the dark ocean that draws her and her insecurities in. But she has to learn that the power lies within her to change her fate, to fight her inner demons and become her own person for her own sake - however, she shall never forget that she's not alone in that.
She has Tailmon, her loyal partner, who believes in her inherent strengths and abilities to always succeed; Taichi, her loving brother, who may be protective, but still knows how reliable she is; Takeru, her close companion, who may project onto her and appear to be overprotective too, but who will stay by her side, no matter what; Miyako, her Jogress partner, who's there to complement and shake her out of her paralysis, while also getting reassured and grounded by Hikari herself in return; all the other Chosen Children, who are kindred spirits, supportive friends and relatable partners in crime she can trust in and who inspire her to be better.
Yagami Hikari strives to reach a peaceful future in which people and Digimon can live in symbiosis and enjoy the fine things in life, like love, taking photos, thriving in a gentle breeze and sweet desserts. And she will work relentlessly to let her light shine through to achieve this goal one day.

hi varona, it's the same anon from before. so i replied to the TIM with what you had written, and this is what mister "Charlotte-chan" had to say:
"Hating me won't make you feel better about yourself while accusing me of things I didn't do. I can only hope you find homeostasis one day rather than having to externalize self hatred. You hate not only yourself but the other half of the species because of paradoxical feelings towards them. You feel your existence is tied to them despite your fears and resentment and thus towards yourself
Your transphobia has no affect on me. I know who I am. I refuse to fall to your level and lack of empathy. Women, men and transfolk alike are hurting. I won't forsake them
One day I just hope you can let go of this lie and slave mentality. How you achieve this is up to you."
what do you make of this?
Okay, so here's what I would answer (if you're still texting):
"classical use of thought-terminating cliché. What is a thought-terminating chliché? According to Wikipeda, it's:
"A thought-terminating cliché [...] is a form of loaded language, [...] intended to end an argument and quell cognitive dissonance. Its function is to stop an argument from proceeding further, ending the debate with a cliché rather than a point."
Examples: "Stop thinking so much." – Redirects attention from the topic, idea, or argument at hand to the alleged overuse of thought itself. "Let's agree to disagree." - Used to stop discussion of an issue rather than attempt to resolve it.
What you just said was: "All of what you say comes because you are hurt yourself". You find this holier-than-thou-rhetoric more than anything among religious and spiritual people. Other examples include:
"What you are saying comes from a place of hurt"
"You just hate me because you hate yourself"
"You just disagree because you haven't found Jesus yet"
"I hope you find peace and healing instead of being angry about [justified reason to be angry about]. "
"If you learned to love yourself, you would be able to love others as well and not be so upset"
"You just want to make others feel bad because you feel bad as well"
There is no way in proving or disproving any of the things you said. It doesn't help the conversation. If you have an actual argument, I'm still happy to hear it"
But idk, I'm kinda a smartass sometimes and don't pick up well on tone of conversation (it's because of autism I guess). Maybe another answer would be better. but that's just genuinely what I got out of this conversation.
