The second you put chips and salsa in front of my face, I turn into No-Face in that one scene in Spirited Away. Just straight munching without thought.
On an unrelated note, my tummy hurt

Did your school ever do class inspection where the principal would sit in one of the teacher's classes for like half of it to make sure they're doing their job and the kids are learning? Well I think Clavell would do this and things would go smoothly, things are going great. The inspections arent a suprise at all, the teachers and students have time to prepare. Except Jacq. Because he fucking forgot. So Clavell walks in on them watching Brainbop or Magic School Bus or maybe they're playing Kahoot where a kid snuck an inappropriate name in when Jacq wasnt looking and they are the top player every single game and at this point Jacq thinks everyone else is losing on purpose. Anyway, Clavell isn't surprised but wtf Jacq they're supposed to be learning according to the school's curriculum skshjsjs

Finally beat everything from Pokemon scarlet and I’m hyperfixating on it haha, I’ve always loved Pokemon and I’m so glad I got to play this, the last gen I played was 7 (moon(Guzma my beloved)
There’s a lot of characters I like from this game that I’m hoping to draw (Rika, Geeta, Jacq, Hassel, Brassius, Ryme, Carmine, Drayton, Amarys, Giacomo, Eri) but I thought I’d start with one of my absolute faves Kieran! (Tied with Arven)
I really resonated with Kieran and Arven, it’s so cool to see the improvement in the storytelling/character writing with Pokemon, I hope they keep it up and keep improving too!
Semi personal rambling of why I relate to this dude under the cut
If this game had come out when I was a tween/teen I would’ve resonated even more with Kieran than I do now, since I was dealing with a lot of similar stuff at that time.
I’ve gotten to a much better place with myself and situation in the last five or so years, most of these unless otherwise said aren’t things I really struggle with anymore but I was so reminded of my younger self while playing through Kierans story
The self esteem problems and wanting to prove others wrong about what they think of me, the passive and overt bullying from others, the need of validation from others, especially those I admired/envied. Additionally the constant setbacks in life and trying to achieve my goals despite it and the envy of other people’s lives that seemed easier than mine
… also some of the obsessive tendencies just like generally, I'm extremely monotropic so its VERY difficult to get me to focus on something I'm not fixated on already, I will talk about it without even realizing and do it for days/weeks/months its still something that really effects me, I'll fixate so hard i dont sleep much for weeks and forget to eat/drink kind of levels, I've always been like this (AuDHD)(I'm working on taking breaks and self care in this regard tho)
Therapy really helped/helps (Kieran please go to therapy lol)

(Pokemon SV) Love Languages
Professor Sada and Turo - Gift Giving
It sure ain’t quality time- Normally the professors are too into their projects to really acknowledge anything else, but if they have time they like to give you gifts. Usually they get you stuffed animals and clothes, but occassionally they will let you foster a pokemon from a different time period. It helps keep you company while they are gone. After being together for a certain period of time, they will even give you a special device that lets you talk to an AI of them, that way you aren’t as lonely
Clavell - Words of Affirmation
Clavell is very old fashioned when it comes to love. I’m talking chocolates, candlelit dinners, all that jazz. But his absolute favorite thing to do is use his words. He loves to just tell you how much he loves you as often as possible, so that you never forget. Any little thing you do will be met with appreciation. Clavell is so used to this that he has accidentally done this while you were both working a few times (gaining a lot of hoots and hollers from students)
Jacq - Physical Touch
Jacq is a simple man, cuddling is the way to his heart. He loves nothing more than to come home from work and fall into your arms on the couch. The warmth from you is the best feeling in the world, especially during winter. The more skin touching the better in his opinion. When you can’t cuddle, he loves just doing soft PDA like holding hands and kissing your cheeks. Also, Jacq tends to sleep in a bit (not on purpose usually) and is definitely the type to hold you in bed and beg you to just stay. Just 5 more minutes!
Miriam - Words of Affirmation
Miriam is naturally pretty confident about most things, but knows how it feels to not be. Her whole ordeal with becoming a Health Teacher highlighted her troubles with it. So she loves to shower you with not only affection and appreciation, but also encouragment. Sometimes she will bring up things you’ve forgotton about. No matter what you do or pursue in life, Miriam will be behind you cheering you the whole way!
Tyme - Quality Tyme
Pun aside, Tyme really enjoys doing different activites with you. She will often look online and ask friends about couple activities you two can do together. Some of her favorite things to do with you are cooking, yoga, and nature walks. If you have any suggestions she is ALWAYS open for new things! As long as  you are doing it together she’s fine. Also, work can get overwhelming for her so spending some quality time with you always mellows her out. She dreads leaving for work everyday, but anticipates getting home to you
Raifort - Words of Affirmation
One thing that Raifort prioritizes in life is verbal communication. Especially when it comes to your passions in life. Having someone listen to and be interested in her rants about history makes her feel on top of the world. So whenever you infodump or just get super passionate she listens intently. Raifort will always listen to you and give you advice, and of course just... well, listen! She likes to bring up your previous conversations and compliment you on how in depth you were, or how interesting you made them sound. Communication is her best way of loving you
Salvatore - Words of Affirmation
As a language teacher, he expresses everything through words. He will string together beautiful sentences just describing how much he loves you. As he tells in his class, it’s important to tell others how you feel and how you care. So he’ll always vocalize his appreciation for whatever you do! Salvatore also enjoys mixing in different languages as a special treat (especially if you love how he sounds when he does)
Dendra - Physical Touch
As both a gym teacher and a physical trainer, Dendra adores physical touch! She loves holding you and touching you and everything inbetween. Her favorite thing to do is exercise with you and do couple activities. Unlike most, her touches are more rough, but in a comforting way. You can always count on her to be sturdy and strong. No matter what happens, she will always be there to catch you or pull you up into a tight hug
Hassel - Words of Affirmation
Oh my fucking god this man won’t SHUT UP (affectionate). No matter what you do he is ready to talk your ear off. Do something well? Expect a rush of compliments and praise. Feel sad or insecure? Expect a rant about how you are as strong as a dragon and shouldn’t give up! It can be a bit... much, but it comes from a place of love and adoration. When he isn’t going on full rants, Hassel also enjoys just simply telling you he loves you. Especially when you are cuddling, he loves hitting you with those 3 words softly
Saguaro - Acts of Service
Saguaro will do pretty much anything for you. Cooking meals? Patching holes in your clothing? Doing the laundry? Giving you a deep massage? This man is on it! He even makes sure to pack you lunch every day. You may feel bad, but he assures you he is doing this of his own volition. Saguaro loves to do things for you as a way of expressing his love. All he wants is for you to be comfy, relaxed, and happy! Sometimes when you come home from a long day, you’ll see a set of fresh clothes on the bed and a bath ready for you (you could get him to join you if you convince him~)
Arven - Quality Time
After being neglected for his entire childhood, Arven really appreciates someone who will just be with him of their own will. If someone goes to his dorm/house on purpose just to spend time with him? He might cry. It is one of the main pillars in his mind for a good relationship, and extends the same priorities to you. The moment you ask him to come over he is already halfway there, sandwich in hand. Arven obviously loves to cook together (even teach you if you ask) but he also loves to read manga together. He may have his issues, but just make sure to be there for him, he will be thankful for the rest of his life
Nemona - Pokemon Battling Quality Time
We all know how clingy Nemona is, and when you start dating it just gets WORSE. She will barely leave your side and will always want to do things with you. She just loves spending time with you she loves you so much!! Spending time together is incredibly important to her, it really makes her feel like you love her. If you tell her to back off she will, but you can expect lots of pouting and lots of hugs when you see her next. And don’t get me started on Pokemon Battling...
Penny - Quality Time
Penny is very introverted and doesn’t really like most things that go into a relationship. She isn’t one for physical contact, she doesn’t like gifts, she’s socially awkward so she can’t express herself, and doing things for her don’t mean much. The one thing that she surprisingly enjoys the most is quality time. After being a recluse for so long she never thought she would want to spend time with someone else, but after meeting you it changed. Penny knows she can be a bit withdrawn, but a good way to know she cares is if she just stays in the same room as you (kind of like a cat). Playing games in comfortable silence or watching an anime together is her favorite way to spend time together (she will need to recharge afterwards, but genuinely enjoys what you do together)
----------
Giacomo - Words of Affirmation
Giacomo may love holding you close, but his favorite way to show his love is by showing his appreciation as often as possible. He never got much appreciation in his life, especially during his run of student council president. It felt awful, so he wants to make sure you never feel like that. He loves to have your input on his songs, and will always thank you profusely for your help, often times adding a special credit in the description. Giacomo loves to shower you in praise, but if you do the same to him? He’s putty in your hands, he will do basically anything for you
Mela - Quality Time
Mela has a hard time keeping relationships. Being bullied has made her hard and cold, but the way to melt her heart is to just... be there for her. She’ll be difficult at first, but eventually she will get emotional once she realizes how long you’ve stayed by her side. It means the world that despite her stubborness you stuck by. And this is also how she shows love to you. She doesn’t know what to do in relationships, so she likes to just spend time with you. Often times she just prefers sitting in comfortable silence watching a movie, that’s the dream. And maybe you could convince her to hold your hand every now and then
Atticus - Gifts
Even before you got together Atticus gave you tons of gifts. It’s his favorite way to show he cares, both romantically and platonically (just ask the rest of Team Star). He always listens very carefully when you talk, always taking notes when you mention something you desire. His specialty is sewing custom clothes for you, but he will also just buy small accessories he found in stores that he thought would look cute on you. If he’s feeling especially romantic, he will even write eloquent poems for you
Ortega - Gifts
I mean... is this even a question? He’s a spoiled lil rich boy, of course he will shower you with gifts! It doesn’t even have to be a special occassion, sometimes he just surprises you with a gift randomly. It may seem like he’s just materialistic, but everything he buys you has a reason. You once broke a shoe so now he bought you 30 pairs, you like tea so he bought you a gold-plated fancy tea set, you like monkeys so he bought you a zoo. It is definitely a lot, but that’s just how Ortega shows how much he loves you. He wants to spend his money on you, in his eyes you deserve the world
Eri - Acts of Service
Eri is already well known to be a defender for her friends, but with you she is on high alert. You are so special, you can’t do anything that may hurt you! She’ll help you with whatever you are doing, sometimes doing it for you before hand. Eri doesn’t want you to burn your hand cooking so why not do it herself! She loves to do things for you, big or small, no questions asked. It’s the best way to show love in her eyes. Sometimes you may need to remind her to just relax and sit down for a few minutes, but rest assured she will be back up in no time
----------
Katy - Acts of Service
While Katy loves to give you pastries as gifts, she mostly enjoys doing things for you in general. Whenever you forget your lunch she will happily cook it for you. If you have plants she will always water them and keep them healthy. Scared of bugs and you have a giant Spidops in your house? She’ll help take it outside (while also teasing you a bit). Katy will even train your pokemon if you don’t have the time to do it yourself. Seeing your smile when you see the special macarons she put in your lunch makes her heart so full and warm
Brassius - Gifts
As an artist, Brassius shows his love thought his work. You are the perfect inspiration, the golden ratio of subjects! Everytime he looks at you he gets new ideas and inspirations for art projects. And any gifts he creates for you have special meaning behind them. Paintings of the place of your first date, a casting of your hands holding each other, even just origami of your favorite flowers. Brassius will always create things for you, purely out of love and adoration
Iono - Quality Time
Being a streamer, Iono spends a LOT of time online. It’s her job she kinda doesn’t have a choice. So when you got together she felt conflicted on what to do. Whenever she isn’t streaming she loves to just hang out with and go on dates, but what about all the other times? Well, she’ll just bring you on stream! In her mind she has the best of both worlds. She can spend her day with her beloved and still get those sweet sweet views, baby. But trust her when she says she isn’t doing it just for the clout, she just really likes you a whole lot
Kofu - Acts of Service
Even thought Kofu is pretty much every love language rolled into one, his favorite way to show love is acts of service! He loves to make you the best seafood dishes known in town, always using the best ingredients. No less for his partner! He’ll also do shopping for you every week (as long as he doesn’t forget his wallet on the way). Even little things like cleaning out the fridge he will happily do. Although he mainly does acts of service, don’t think Kofu doesn’t love all the other languages! Give him a hug god dammit!!
Larry - Physical Touch
Larry is a simple man, and is the same when it comes to love. He says he loves you and buys you flowers, but those just feel like basic requirements. Not to say he doesn’t mean well, but to him, true love comes with contact. He’s not good with words, so instead he touches you. He hugs you from behind while you work, he holds your hand constantly, places his hand on your lower back, stuff like that. He may not say it often, but when he touches you ever so gently, you know he loves you
Ryme - Words of Affirmation
Ryme is a rapper, words and speaking her mind are kind of her thing. No matter what you do, she will always make sure to properly thank you and express her gratitude. Even if you just make some scrambled eggs for her she will never forget to thank you. Ryme wants you to know that she adores everything you do, and she loves you is so many ways. When she isn’t telling you straight out that she appreciates you, Ryme will write several raps about it and perform them for you
Tulip - Quality Time
Being a makeup artist and a gym leader doesn’t give Tulip a lot of time alone, so when she manages to get some, she spends it with you! She loves to try new makeup products on you or grooming your pokemon, but honestly even just being in the same room with you is enough. There is something about just... existing with you that makes her happy. You can both work on separate projects and it will still feel special. Tulip knows she isn’t around much, that’s why quality time together means so much to her
Grusha - Physical Touch
Grusha is someone that hates the cold. And do you know what you have? HEAT. And Grusha is not ashamed to steal that heat. When he isn’t using you as a human heater, Grusha still likes to just be in contact with you. He especially loves using his hands. Holding hands, stroking your face, running his fingers through your hair, all that good stuff. Words can be confusing and misconstrued, so why not ignore all that and just kiss?
Rika - Words of Affirmation
Rika can be a bit of a tease, as she loves to push your buttons and poke fun. But this all comes from a place of love, and she never forgets to genuinely thank you for what you do. Thanking you for last nights dinner, thanking you for the flowers you got her, etc. She also adores complimenting you. Not just because she wants you to know how awesome you are, but also to see the blush on your face. It’s so cute how quickly you become a flustered mess around her. It’s one of the greatest pleasures in her life
Geeta - Words of Affirmation
Geeta thrives off of giving affirmation. Especially to her loved ones, like you! Before you got together she already complimented you on your battling skills, but once you were a couple she shifted into complimenting and acknowledging the little things about you. Your creativity with date ideas, your fashion sense, even your choice in air fresheners. She adores making you smile and always goes out of her way to express her gratitude as often as possible so you never forget
----------
I thought this would be a fun first post on here, hope y’all like it!!

Pokemon professors should react to you catching certain Pokemon, especially if they made your pokedex.
Jacq calling you on the phone: "Hey there! Firstly: great job filling out the pokedex. Definitely giving you extra marks for that. Secondly: I was browsing your pokedex and am wondering what you've been up to. A bunch of these Pokemon predate the fossil records which, yeah maybe you found a groundbreaking discovery and revived those ones. Then I see all these robots which look really fake or you broke into some kind of government facility building these robots. Scrolling into the national dex I'm looking at some questionable Pokemon which I can't confirm are Pokemon and look like they come from another dimension. Going even further down the list it looks like you not only caught many major deities, but also god himself. You caught the entire bible and now I have to reevaluate my beliefs as you just confirmed that there is not only a heaven, but also a hell. I'm giving you a passing grade and I'm going to contemplate my life and career now."

Hey can you suggest any good resources for learning about Egyptian mythology, theology, and spirituality?
Absolutely! One of my favorite books is Christian Jacq’s translation of PtahHotep’s teachings. His analyses on what PtahHotep wrote is as fascinating as it is informative and deals with matters of ascension, learnedness, and a state of bliss not at all dissimilar to the more eastern concept of enlightenment. Both PtahHotep and Jacq stress the importance of Ma’at in our daily lives, and set out teachings of spirituality for daily life that, if you read deeper, can extend into your spiritual practice.
Another suggestion is this book detailing mythology, worship, and other such topics. I think it’s a pretty common book—The Complete Gods and Goddesses of Ancient Egypt—but there are some really interesting points in it, even going so far as to deal with the importance of numbers in Egyptian mythology.
Here you can find a compilation of our sacred texts, including translations for the Book of the Dead, the Pyramid Texts, the Book of Gates, and the Book of the AmDuat. Along with those come a number of books written in the more modern world concerning ancient Egyptian religion, even translated hymns to Auset and books dealing with the myths, magic, and legends of ancient Kemet. This website is called archive.sacred-text and it’s pretty easy to navigate if the link doesn’t work.
Generally speaking, if you have more specific topics, worldhistory.org has some great articles too. I recommend looking at their Clergy, Priests, and Priestesses article and the Religious Beliefs and Practices article, although there are many more that are very interesting.
As with all research, make sure you know your sources, and take considerable doubts when reading the accounts of Greek scholars who came to Egypt. Oftentimes they’re straight up liars, and even if not, they only record the times of Ptolemaic Egypt and essentially disregard the entirety of Egyptian history. Thus far very few of their accounts have been evidentially proven correct.

Assorted name / nickname headcanons
Arven is a huge fan of adding -ito to the end of things and has a nickname for just about everyone. Is it because he just can't remember their names? ... maybe.
He also can't get Giacomo's name right to save his life. "Penny's friend Giuseppe" is not pleased about this
Penny's full name is Penelope, not that you'd ever know because no one calls her that
Katy's full name is Katharine, but Kofu always called her Katy so she continues to use the name in association with her bakery as a nod to his teaching
Tyme is actually the LAST name of the sisters. The academy teacher goes by her last name, while the rapper goes by her stage name. This makes the rapper's full name "Ryme Tyme", which both sisters think is HYSTERICAL
Larry's full name is Laurence. The only person who calls him that is Geeta when she's mad at him. Rika thinks this is REALLY funny, but Larry does not agree
"Hass" and "Brassie" are only ever used by the other. Just try calling Brassius "Brassie" and you'll learn just how withering a side eye can be from a man with no eyebrows
Hassel does his absolute damnedest to never use his last name. He has distanced himself from his family and prefers it when people don't use his clan name
In terms of academy staff: Hassel, Jacq, Miriam, and Dendra go by their first names, while Clavell, Raifort, Tyme, Saguaro, and Savatore go by their last names. I have... not come up with headcanons for their first names yet
Clavell's first name is Leopold, but the professors used to call him Leo. He prefers to go by his last name now. Memories and whatnot

what are your headcanons about Juliana and Florian?
oughhghghg where to begin
Both
-Juliana (Jules for short) and Florian (Flori, Flor, etc) are twins! Juliana is the older one. This is inspired by the fact that... they look so similar in their official art! All the recent protags all do but these two take the cake. It's so funny to me. -they look so similar in fact, that they could be body doubles! but that's totally wrong and unethical they'd never... right? -I like the HC that they're both from Galar (their mom having Skwovet and using a British term early-game, the Galarian pokemon stickers in their room, etc). They're both Paldeans, but were raised there before moving back to their hometown with mom.
-Fun thing about Scarlet/Violet is that they're such huge games that it's totally justifiable to have dual protags doing different things. Because of this, I decided to have Juliana handle the 'battle-heavy' routes like Victory Road while Florian, who is more research-focused (and has main character syndrome) features more in The Hidden Treasure arc. -I can't decide on who really does Starfall Street yet, but I'd like for Path of Legends to be the both of them helping Arven since it's the most plot-heavy and has to do with endgame. -Don't ask how but both Koraidon and Miraidon exist at the same time and the twins are their trainers. -In my recent art of them, you'll notice Juliana and Florian's eyes get all blue/crystal-like! this is an effect of their time in Area Zero/being exposed to that much Terastal energy. just them though, no one else...
Florian
Tumblr media Tumblr media
-additionally, Flo's hair turns from a purply-brown to pink post-game because he's named "Haruto" in Jp, meaning spring. this carries over across all languages! I wanted to evoke a sense of a blossom coming to life over the course of his journey.
-hates battling because his sister will always be better at it than him, so he vastly prefers pokemon catching instead. (Galar's League-focus/prominence made him sickkkk. he was glad to move) -helped Jacq complete the Paldean, Kitakami and BB pokedex because of that. they're tight, the both of them. -his smile never reaches his eyes, early-game. -he is not naturally kind, nor does he see himself as the 'hero' of the story (that was always Juliana, not him), but he fakes being a main character to make people think he's just as good (this is also a byproduct of Galar's culture tbh) -that's why he seems like the more extroverted of the two, but really, he's just as quiet as her behind doors. -tbh even the fact that he has one beauty mark under his eye instead of two like his twin sis bothers him... blud thinks he'll never be enough! -Koraidon's trainer
-after meeting Kieran, Florian tried to be kind from a genuine want instead of to impress people. he wanted to be the 'hero of the story' that Kieran saw him as... and not because he needed to be out of his sister's shadow. Kieran made him want to try. -like the only way I see him winning during BB League wasn't because he was the main character who always wins, but because winning was the only way he could be friends with Kieran again. -his arc will conclude when he learns to be kind and do things out of selflessness :) which is why he takes a Tera Blast during the Indigo Disk's climax, the ultimate act of selflessness. help. sorry man it was for character development...
Juliana
Tumblr media Tumblr media
-The actual main hero of the story. Really insanely strong in battles. like just straight up a beast -Juliana's names mean "youth", so she stays the same, forever a young battle prodigy Florian tries to match (but can't...). Also, youth to me can mean the future, which is why she's the Miraidon trainer! -Another reason why she's Miraidon trainer is because she can't express herself how she wants... she can't emote easily and speaks monotonously, like a robot. -Her arc would conclude when she learns that the people worth keeping in life are the ones that get her even when she doesn't feel "normal" :]]] true treasures. -big eater -read once that having beauty marks under your eyes means you'll have "trouble in love" and tried to scrub hers off... really envies Florian for having just one and thinks Flo's some kind of romance genius. goes to him for love advice one day and it freaks him out (he's having just a complicated time as any teen!!!)
-Heavily inspired by Pokemon Special's take on her. like look at her she's so cool.

Romantic headcanons for Hassel, Clavell, and Jacq pls? <3
Sure!! Happily!
🍓🍓🍓
Hassel:
Hassel is the definition of sappy when it comes to you. He’s just so overjoyed that he gets to be a part of your life, to be able to hold you and kiss you and love you so much. You support his dreams and you love him as he is, not because of his standing in his family or his position on the Elite Four. Hassel is down bad for you, and he’s not afraid to show it
He has many photos of you both at his desk in the teacher’s lounge and in his classroom. Those in his classroom are drawings he’s done, ones the kids as about. Hassel happily rambles to them about you, so much so that sometimes kids ask about your during class to sidetrack him. It’s well and good until he gets teary over how much you’ve made him feel loved, and then everyone has to soothe a blubbering Hassel.
Hassel loves taking you out. You two travel Paldea, with Hassel showing off the beautiful sights and taking you to all the restaurants. If there’s live music playing, he’ll dance you around. It’s nothing too intense or fast, but you both have fun swinging and swaying to the music. Some of Hassel’s favorite memories are of you laughing as he dips you down to pepper you in kisses
His passion is music, on top of just art. He’ll write little songs or melodies for you on guitar or piano, and serenade you at home. It’s very romantic, but if you tear up, he will as well. If you want, he’ll teach you how to play, sitting close and guiding your fingers over keys and strings alike. Should you flip the script and play him a little song you wrote for him, he’ll sob into the kisses he smothers you in. He’s just so in love, and so so sappy about you
Clavell:
Clavell is a gentleman, a little old fashioned, but oh so sweet. He always is doing little things that makes your day brighter. He kisses your hand when you meet or depart, he offers his arm for you to hold while you both walk down the street, he pulls chairs out for you, and everything you can think of. You almost feel like you're part of those old romance movies, and it makes you swoon a little bit
Clavell enjoys more peaceful dates with you. Candlelit dinners, walks in the park, days at museums or the aquarium, or spending time at home with a movie, maybe a bit of slow dancing to the music on his record player. It's so very romantic, but Clavell is open to more active dates, if that's what you want. He enjoys your trips to sports games, or to hike amongst nature, so long as you take it slow.
He's easy to fluster. Clavell isn't used to PDA, and it never crosses his mind much when he first starts dating you. Sure, you hold his hand or his arm, but he offers them to you. Kisses on the cheek? You leaning on him, head on his shoulder? Hugging him from behind? He blushes every time, eyes wide. He likes it, don't worry. He's just not used to it yet.
At school, he doesn't talk about his own personal life much, preferring to focus more on the students. However, if asked, he'll discuss you, how he admires your confidence and strength, and such. He's not as prone to rambling, sadly, but curious kids can draw all sorts of things out of him, such as your hobbies and interests and all that. You visit, only to find a handful of students know you?? Clavell blushes when you bring it up, embarrassed to be caught gushing about you to the kids
Jacq:
Jacq is a silly boyfriend. He's always doing experiments and research, so he'll talking about them a lot. They're really interesting, if you have an interest in Pokémon biology. If you don't, his rambling helps lull you to sleep, since his voice is lower and calming when he talks. He's put several students to sleep before, so he doesn't mind you sleeping. He's touched you like his voice that much
He's a bit of a workaholic, so you'll have to drag him from his research. Luckily, it's not that hard to convince him to take a break. A few kisses and he's following you like a little puppy. Try not to use your powers for evil, however. The director isn't pleased if Jacq falls behind on his grading or anything, and Jacq will overwork to make it up to him, so be careful
Dates with him often turn into little fieldwork excursions. Jacq will pull you towards wild Pokémon and show off how his app works. It's often good for training your Pokémon, since Jacq gets information whether you battle or catch it. He's your personal cheerleader, clapping and shouting out encouragement as you battle. Every win earns you a kiss to the cheek, and Jacq carries lots of healing items for your team, berries too, as thanks
Some of Jacq's favorite moments are when you two are home, snuggled together on the couch or in bed. He's a big fan of physical affection, and wants you laying on top of him, or him on top of you. Whatever gives him the most skin to skin contact. It's very cute, until he gets withdrawal symptoms at work and a student, or Arceus forbid, Clavell walks in on you both in his chair, melded together in a mess of limbs and kisses

clubroom interactions i wish we'd gotten
arven & katy or kofu (self-explanatory) brassius & tulip (expanding on their beef) penny & iono (you cannot tell me she isn't an iono fan) nemona & larry (it would've been funny for her to scold him like geeta) penny & ryme (giacomo stand-in) nemona & rika (mimicking her hair, i assume she's a fan) clavell & arven (disappointing we don't hear more about arven's mental state and thoughts on his parent after ruminating for a few months, clavell seems the most likely to check up on this) clavell & nemona (lets go student council president) nemona & jacq (why the hell doesn't SHE interact with her homeroom teacher but the other two do???) penny & miriam (i feel like she would've skipped a lot in the nurse's) arven & miriam (headcanon that he saw her about mabosstiff at one point) arven & drayton (he and carmine i think would have similar reactions to drayton of getting extremely peeved and annoyed) arven & lacey (i think it'd be funny if she was interested in him for liking cute things like his phone case, etc. and being friendly and cutesy much to crispin's chagrin, and was endeared by him not being scared by clay; not realizing it's bc he doesn't know who that is and bc he's jealous she has a protective dad) penny & amarys (i think since amarys apparently likes painting they could talk about mela or something) nemona & drayton (she would totally want to battle him) jacq & kieran or carmine (WHY DOES NOBODY BRING UP THE FACT HE WAS JUST IN THE WOODS IN KITAKAMI? it would've been so funny if one of them was like HEY WAIT A MINUTE I SAW YOU IN THE WOODS)
anyway i enjoyed the epilogue and the post-game conversations, but i wish that the big three had gotten a lot more than just two outside of one another and carmine and kieran...left me wanting more especially because i wasn't completely satisfied thinking they all moved on immediately...real life doesn't work like that, but i have to accept pokemon isn't going to delve into the real-life process of grief

Power Couple
(jacq x reader | part i of ii in a series)
Look, it’s not their fault. First off, who wants to listen to their professor actually teach a class? Second, who doesn’t want to hear their professor talk about their romantic life?
or the story of how Jacq met his partner
Tumblr media
Everyone loves Jacq. That’s just the way things are. Is the sky blue? Are the steps leading up to the Academy the worst? Is Clive having a mid life crisis? Yes. Yes. And yes.
All those above are facts.
Yes, Jacq could be a bit of an airhead for someone whose work could only be described as pure genius. Not to mention, he has a tendency to go off on a tangent. Occasionally peppering in unrelated questions in his exams has gotten him into trouble repeatedly. Despite his attractive frame, he tends to slouch. He wears silly hexagon glasses and slides for Arceus’ sake. Yet, the fact of the matter is — everyone loves Jacq.
The only person to come close to the pedestal in which Jacq unknowingly sits is his partner.
Now, nobody in the academy has actually ever met this mystery person, but by the stories shared by the young professor, anyone could surmise what an equally delightful person they are.
“Sorry for the wait.” Jacq nervously pops his head from outside the classroom, prompting a round of laughs from his students.
‘Oh, classic Jacq,’ everyone thinks, once again charmed by the man.
“What is it this time, professor?”
“Ah,” he muses, right before a bashful smile forms on his face. “I was just a little caught up with talking to my partner.” He scratches the back of his head. “Lost track of time, then whoops. Uh-oh, I’m late for class. Time flies and all that.”
The class lets out a collective dreamy sigh at his words.
Always wanting to waste time, and hear more of their beloved professor’s beloved, a student asks, “What were you talking about?”
A bright smile lights up Jacq’s face, and soon enough words leave him before he can think to jump into today’s lesson. “They’re at Kalos at the moment, but they’re hoping to make a pit stop here at Paldea if you can believe it.” His voice doesn’t have the usual excitement to it, but the underlying coyness is there. “I’ve asked them if they would want to see the academy, and they immediately said yes. Truthfully, I’ve told them many stories about all of you and they’re keen to meet you.”
Everyone reels.
The thought process goes like this. ‘They’re so close by!’ to ‘They’re coming here???!’ to ‘Aw, he talks to them about us?’ and back to ‘They’re coming here???!’
Ignorant of his students’ inner musings, the professor carries on, “I imagine you’re excited to meet them, yes?”
Well, duh.
He grins at the eerily synchronized slow nods from the baffled students.
“Which is why I’ll be requesting permission from the Director to let them give a special lecture.”
Excited cheers erupt in the classroom.
After a beat, Nemona realizes something. “Did you ever tell us what your partner’s field of study was?”
Jacq’s eyes widen a tiny bit, but his glasses make the sight more comical than it should be. “Oh my. I could’ve sworn I mentioned it when you asked me how we met?”
Once again in unison, the class shakes their heads.
“Well, as you know, we met when I travelled to Galar for an exchange study program. They came to my rescue when I was stopped by airport security for having a Tinkaton in my party.”
A few snickers scatter amongst his students. He pauses to give them an exasperated smile. This is the part of the story that took his class 30 minutes to calm down the first time they heard it.
“They were leaving Galar just as I was coming in, and switched an empty pokéball for Tinkaton’s. They took the blame, and claimed Tinkaton was theirs and part of their highly important and classified research under Professor Oak. As soon as his name was dropped, security started tripping over their feet apologizing.”
Understandably. Being associated with the Professor Oak just further cemented Jacq’s partner as so cool in the students’ eyes. Their quick thinking as well, in comparison to Jacq’s own occasional absent-mindedness, further earned his students’ favor.
“Turns out they really did have a highly important and classified — at least at the time — research under Professor Oak. Right now, it’s widely known that their team is creating the most comprehensive Pokédex there is. They’re specifically tasked with regional types, and alternate forms.”
A breathless “wow,” leaves Nemona’s lips. The student beside her mutters, “right?”
“Now, does that answer your question? Perhaps we should move onto today’s topic?”
Someone from the back of the class shouts, “Finish the story!”
Another student echoes the sentiment, “We always love hearing it!”
Jacq sighs, but he knows he’ll cave. He can never say no to his students, and he’s always happy to speak about you to anyone who would listen.
“I was staring at them in awe even as they were being whisked away to board their plane. A few seconds after I watched them walk away, I realize they still have my pokémon. I was tired, hungry, and quite frankly just wanted to get out of there, but I stood still, shocked. Eventually, I hear something roll on the ground.”
His students are on the edge of their seats now, despite hearing this story before.
“I had dropped the pokéball they switched in. I heard a sort of rattling noise as I picked it up. Folded in, and tucked safely was a paper with their name and number hastily written. I immediately sent them a text to thank them. Before their flight took off, I got a single message back, ‘what were u thinking >:(‘
A fond laugh leaves Jacq’s lips at the memory.
“Safe in the knowledge that Tinkaton was not pokénapped, I made my way to Hammerlocke to settle in. About half a day later, they respond to my string of apologies with, ‘ok.’
The class laughs at that. “Mood.”
“To ease my worries, they sent me daily pictures of Tinkaton. Eating delicious poffins, battling their own pokémon, shining its hammer. They didn’t say much, but I didn’t mind. I, however, said a lot. Thankfully, they didn’t mind either.”
A chorus of aww’s once again flooded the room.
“At the end of the semester, I had mentioned I’d be leaving Galar, and could safely take in Tinkaton once more. As though through lady luck herself, both our next stops were Alola. My palms were sweaty the entire time I waited for them at Heahea.”
The students practically had wistful looks at this point.
“When our eyes met, I was once again stunned speechless by their presence. It was like everything was running in slow motion. I was nervous to approach them, but they spoke to me like they knew me very well. Which, based on how much I talked in our messages, was fair.”
He lets out a self-deprecating laugh, accompanied with an almost hopeless look in his eyes.
“It didn’t matter because they had plenty to say, and were more than happy to fill in the silence. Most of which were data gathered about my Tinkaton. Boy, I tell you, it felt like my heart was about to leap out my chest. They took it in stride. If they noticed my nerves, they were gracious enough not to mention it.”
“Here it comes,” Nemona whispers excitedly, only to be shh’ed by the rest of the class.
“They hand me a binder chockfull of information about my Tinkaton, as well as virtually every important entry about the species published in pokédexes the last two hundred years. Apparently, they did this in their spare time because they didn’t want to show up empty handed.”
“I’m simply more than grateful they saved my behind when they had nothing to gain from it. Now, I’m floundering for a response, but they seem to have mistaken it for haughtiness. They mention something along the lines of having the data too heavy and messy for it to be a message or an email. That was when I had an epiphany. What if it could’ve been an email? Rather, something you can open just as easily on your phone?”
“I combee-lined it out of there, and took my laptop to the nearest café to draw a proposal and write its initial code. Right when I was stuck on giving the project a name, down slams the binder. When I look up, there they were sipping on an iced tea. They looked cool as a cucumber, but the aura was wildly menacing.”
“They whisper, ‘I remember thinking you never shut up, but now you’re pretty good at it. Why is that?’”
Half the class is actually mouthing the words.
“I was still too flustered to speak to them. In lieu of answering their question, I took out my phone. I still remember how the look in their eyes shifted to something softer and kinder when they read my text message. im shy :(‘
“They laughed, pulled out the other chair, and we continued conversing that way for the rest of the day. Some patrons stared when they saw this impressive looking trainer speak to dorky ol’ me typing his answers away on his phone. Before we left the café, I logged back onto my laptop and named the pokédex app’s initial code after them.”
Someone in the classroom starts shedding tears at that last bit.
“Everyday I was in Alola, we met up to talk about anything. At first, it was just pokémon, and our respective research, but halfway through we spoke about ourselves, our favorite movies, childhood aspirations, stuff like that.”
“Eventually, I did have to actually go back to my university. While they were in Alola for official business, I really just wanted to meet up with this person instead of having them send back Tinkaton through the PC. I gave them back their pokéball which was such a small thing, really the bare minimum, compared to all the great things that happened to me because of them. They saved my behind, took care of my pokémon, and gave me the idea that changed my life forever.”
The deep smitten sigh is an obvious indication that they have reached The End of the story, but everyone is far too pleased with the sweetness of it all to care. It looks as though the professor has to settle down from telling the story. A lovestruck look is fixed firmly on Jacq’s face, which his students coo at.
Nemona, with a teasing glint in her eye, prods, “And…?”
Like he’s snapped out of a trance, Jacq asks, “And what?”
“You know…..”
He offers a kind smile, but tilts his head in question. “I know what?”
The student grumbles, and exasperatedly explains, “Yes. Yay for you. No lawsuits for bringing an invasive species to Galar. Having your precious pokémon taken care of when you weren’t able to. Developing the friggin’ Pokédex app!” She pauses to catch her breath, and the professor can only watch, slightly terrified. “But also! Like? Hello? What about finding the love of your life?! Shouldn’t that be part of the things you mentioned just now? Things you’re grateful to your partner for???”
The rest of the class mumble some sort of agreement to her statement.
Now, Jacq was just confused.
“Where in the story did I mention meeting the love of my life?”
The worst part is he is completely clueless.
Half the class looks heartbroken, the other is horrified.
Both reactions are understandable.

The cave you were in seemed a lot quieter than the rest of the cave system, probably because there weren’t pokemon everywhere you turned. You could hear the occasional drip of water and the distant cry of a pokemon from somewhere, but that was about it. It felt exciting and a little eerie. Hellcat set the pace, creeping forward into the dim cavern, and you both followed close behind.
For about five minutes, your walk was uneventful. You passed by tera crystals that were growing from the ceiling and dripping water like stalactites, and followed the cave in a gradual downward slope deeper into the earth. Then you began to encounter pokemon again; only some Glimmets and Glimmora at first, until the pathway you’d been following led to a larger chamber, and then some Paradox Pokemon began to show up once more. It was nowhere near their usual numbers, though. As you passed by a Great Tusk plodding through the cave, you commented,
“It’s interesting there’s fewer pokemon back here. I wonder why. I guess because we’re so far in?”
Nemona agreed,
“Yeah, probably. Life’s a lot scarcer the deeper you go into caves or the deeper you go into the oceans.”
“Yeah, that’s true. That’s because there’s less food available, right?”
She nodded.
“Basically. I mean, most food chains have plant life at the bottom, and when there’s no sunlight, well, there’s no plants. There’s pokemon with a mineral-based diet like Carbink or Sabeleye of course, so they can live really deep in caves. But most pokemon eat other plants or animals.”
You gazed around the cave you were traversing.
“Seems like there’s no plants at all though, how do any of these guys eat?”
Nemona hummed,
“Well, there’s a few ways. Some pokemon species don’t live in caves full-time, they just roost in them or raise young there. They leave the caves at some point to eat. I think a lot of the pokemon we’ve seen probably do that since we see ‘em on the surface. Annnd, sometimes resources get washed into caves. Like those waterfalls that dump directly into here? Probably a lot of plants and fish in there. Also poop! Bacteria break it down and bug types can eat the bacteria and bigger stuff eat the bugs . . .”
You looked at her as she trailed off. She added on sheepishly,
“Sorry. Didn’t mean to ramble.”
“No, I was just thinking you really know your stuff!”
She laughed.
“Well, I’ve done a lot of reading, and I’ve listened to Jacq’s lectures for longer than you have. Gotta work hard if you wanna understand pokemon! But I’m sure you’ll pick it all up too.”
You noticed a small pod of Scream Tails ahead of you, floating in the air like weird pink balloons. When they noticed you, they turned to glare with big yellow eyes and hissed. Hellcat hissed in return at them.
“Let’s leave ‘em alone, Hellcat,” Nemona said, trying to guide the tiger away. The fact that Paradox Pokemon seemed to all have such aggressive dispositions certainly didn’t make exploring any easier. The pod of Scream Tails broke apart, floating their separate ways, apparently unnerved by Hellcat. However, one of them remained, an especially large one.
Now that you were looking closer at it, though, it wasn’t just larger; it also seemed to have longer hair. Instead of a tuft of hair on top of the head leading into a single long ponytail, it had three of them, the tails obscuring most of its face and covering its eyes. Its ears were longer, too, more like a rabbit’s.
“Umm, Nemona–”
“Yeah, I see it, what is that?? Is that just a Scream Tail or . . .”
The pink pokemon drifted closer, causing Hellcat to bristle and growl.
The wild pokemon also growled– the sound much deeper than you’d expect from a pink puffball. When it did, it showed its long, sharp fangs, much bigger than a Scream Tail’s. You nervously said,
“I think the answer is definitely ‘or.’”
Nemona enthused,
“Oh man, we found something good already? We’re so lucky!”
A soft pink glow began to surround the wild pokemon, the ‘tails’ drifting upwards at the same time, revealing the huge yellow eyes beneath, pulsing with dangerous energy.
“N-nemona . . .”
“Oh right, sorry. Hellcat, Dire Claw!”
Hellcat leapt into the air, striking a vicious blow before the pokemon could use its Psychic. The pokemon took massive damage and seemed to slowly deflate like a balloon, giving a strangled cry. Nemona praised,
“Great shot, Hellcat!”
You had a pokeball handy, so you gave it a toss, seeing if the pokemon was weak enough to catch already. It clicked with no problems.
“Great shot for you too, Jules!”
“Thanks.”
You both decided to immediately send the pokemon back out so you could heal it up and inspect it more. Hellcat watched over it in case it tried to misbehave.
Leaning against the wall of the cave as she studied the floating creature, Nemona asked,
“So we agree it’s gotta be an evolved form of Scream Tail, yeah?”
You nodded.
“Probably. It’s funny this is the first we’ve seen of it though, considering Scream Tails are everywhere.”
“Well, Jigglypuff can’t evolve unless they have a Moon Stone.”
“Oh, yeah. I forgot about that. So you think these are the same?”
“Seems like there’s a good chance. Oh, and maybe there are Moon Stones deep in these caves! And that’s why we’re seeing these guys here but not elsewhere.”
“Hmm. I guess we could always try to test it on one of our own Scream Tails sometime.”
“Good idea! We’ll definitely try that out sometime.”
You spent a couple minutes instructing the new pokemon, trying to check out its movepool and abilities. It showed you Psychic and Dazzling Gleam, nothing too unexpected.
Eventually Nemona said in an eager tone,
“You know, if it’s a new pokemon species, we’ll get to name it. Since we discovered it and all. That’s how it works, right?”
You smiled at the idea, but pointed out,
“IF it’s a new species. It’s possible Sada might have known about it already, especially if she thought to evolve a Scream Tail.”
“Aw, c’mon Jules, let a girl dream!”
You laughed.
“Okay, okay. What do you wanna call it, then?”
“Ummm . . . hmm. Well . . . I guess the name should be kinda similar since it’s an evolution . . .”
You watched the weird pink creature for a bit before suggesting,
“Maybe like, Screech Tail? Or Tails, I guess, it has three of ‘em.”
She shrugged,
“Works for me!”
You held up your pokeball and recalled the new pokemon. You answered,
“Great. At the very least, it should come in handy when we’re catching Roaring Moon.”
Nemona grinned.
“Good thinking. Okay, Hellcat, onward! To adventure!”
You both continued along the path with enthusiasm, despite the general gloomy atmosphere of the dim cavern. The trail led you deeper and deeper into the earth, growing steep and awkward to traverse before long. The ground was also slick with damp and slime; you fumbled your footing more than once, and Nemona had to catch you one of the times before you could fall on your face.
“You okay, Jules?”
She had an arm wrapped firmly around your side, her amber eyes full of concern as she gazed down into your own eyes.
You swallowed.
“Y-yeah! Fine. Thanks. It’s u-uh, it’s slippery.”
You were full of brilliant observations, as usual. Nemona let go and made sure you were steady before turning and agreeing,
“Yeah, it is getting kinda bad, plus it’s a bit dark . . . oh, I know.”
She pulled her Rotom phone out, hitting a few settings. The phone’s light switched on and it floated in the air, just above her head.
“There we go! Should be safer now.”
You looked at the phone, surprised.
“I didn’t know they could do that.”
“Yep! If there’s one thing I hear a lot about it’s all the dang features on these phones, I can show you all the other features sometime if you want,” she chuckled. You were too distracted noticing Nemona had apparently swapped her plain black phone case out to an orange one with little pictures of Pawmi and oranges. It was very cute.
She continued,
“Anyway, careful through this part, there’s sort of a step here.”
You made it past the steep bit just fine, but not too further along, you felt a bit off-balance again, wobbling, and started to wonder if your feet were intentionally betraying you. You swore this wasn’t on purpose–
Nemona asked,
“Whoa, is the ground moving?”
You paused, realizing it wasn’t just you; the ground really was trembling slightly. You answered,
“I think so . . .”
As soon as you’d finished speaking, it seemed to stop, though.
“Hm.”
You both continued on, curious and cautious. It had been a while since you’d run into another pokemon, but you spotted a Brute Bonnet trundling along up ahead. Hellcat bristled at it.
The ground began to tremble again, this time accompanied by a distant rumbling sound.
“Er . . .”
The Brute Bonnet moved faster, hobbling as quickly as it could on its stubby little legs, wanting to get the heck out of there. Water fell from the ceiling in big droplets. Hellcat shook its head, flicking the water off.
“Is it an earthquake?” you asked, trying to keep the anxiety from edging into your voice. This wasn’t the best place to be during an earthquake. Nemona answered,
“I dunno, maybe? But it hasn’t . . .”
The rumbling sound came again, this time much closer. In fact, it sounded as though it was echoing through the cave itself. You quickly realized the rythmic thumping wasn’t an earthquake at all.
They were footsteps. Approaching footsteps.
“Nemona–”
Nemona squared her shoulders, calling,
“Hellcat, get ready!”
You reached for your pokeballs, ready to back her up if need be, and the pair of you waited to face whatever was coming. The vibrations rattled some smaller stalactites loose from the ceiling, the crystals dropping and splintering, and the rumbling drew closer and closer. Further ahead in the gloom of the cave, you could see small bits of yellow flashing, lights flickering along the floor of the cave in little electric ripples.
And then you could make the creature out: just a dark figure at first, charging through the cave in your direction, although fortunately it wasn’t especially fast, just very noisy as it lumbered along. As it got closer you had the time to take note of some basic details. It was running on all fours, it was dark red with sooty black paws and legs, and it had zigzagging black stripes down its back. Its long black tail was held aloft and tipped in a jagged yellow spike in the shape of a lightning bolt; its ears were pointed and long, and it had a big spike protruding from its forehead, as well as a big ruff of spiky yellow fur around its neck. As it moved, its paws thumped heavily along the ground, leaving little ripples of electricity in its wake.
You exchanged a quick glance with Nemona.
“Is that a Raichu?” you asked, knowing it wasn’t one, but it bore a passing resemblance to one. A really big, spiky, angry one, anyway.
“Maybe an ancient Raichu? Hellcat, get ready to use Thorn Fang!”
The tiger crouched, baring its fangs, ready for the foe lumbering towards it. The ancient Raichu gave a cry, the sound more akin to rolling thunder than the high-pitched noise from a usual Raichu. You could see its beady black eyes now as it approached, and the sharp little fangs protruding from its mouth. The ruff around its neck seemed to be charging up with energy, a dangerous yellow-orange flickering of power between the pieces of spiky fur. Something about it struck you as sort of odd, but you didn’t put it together fast enough.
Nemona, however, did. Her eyes widening, she called,
“Hellcat, wait!”
Her hand quickly moved to her belt and she spent a half-second choosing a ball, then snatched it up, throwing it. Her Great Tusk materialized right in front of Hellcat, just in time for the ancient Raichu to charge into it with an earth-shuddering crash. Electricity and flames were thrown off from the impact, crackling in the air, but Great Tusk’s body shielded you, Nemona and Hellcat from any crossfire.
“Great Tusk, use Close Combat!”
The mammoth swung its trunk, smacking its foe across the face, then reared up, kicking at it with its hefty feet. The ancient Raichu gave a guttural cry, staggering backwards before standing up on two legs, its tail lashing back and forth, beady eyes glaring. Energy started to build around its ruff again, and you got a better look at why it seemed so strange. The yellow-orange ripples of energy flowed between the spines of fur in serpentine squiggles, and it was hard to tell if it was electricity or fire– or possibly both, as seemed to be the case.
“Great Tusk, Knock Off!”
You silently noted that Nemona was intentionally holding back with her attacks, probably with the aim of wanting to capture this pokemon. Great Tusk whacked its foe once again with its trunk. The ancient Raichu recovered from the hit and then rushed forward, butting hard into Great Tusk with the horn on its head, sending out another mighty sputter of flames and electricity.
“Knock Off, again!”
When Great Tusk brought its trunk down once more, it knocked its foe clean off its feet, dropping it back down to all fours. The ancient Raichu gave a rumbling cry, sounding tired.
“Now’s our chance!” Nemona yelled, reaching for an empty pokeball from her bag. She took aim and threw it.
However, the wild pokemon was not intent on cooperating. It dodged the pokeball, then turned tail and began to run. Nemona shouted,
“Wh-uh?! It’s running? Oh no you don’t, get back here!”
Nemona quickly recalled her Great Tusk and then took off after the pokemon. It was stomping away at a pretty good pace, but Nemona was fast.
“N-nemona, wait!”
You and Hellcat chased after her. Of course, Hellcat outpaced you very quickly and then you were alone, splashing through puddles and slipping over rocks in the dim cavern, trying to keep up. You turned a bend in the path and saw the fleeing pokemon was rushing towards a round hole in the cave wall, which was encrusted in tera crystal. When it reached the hole, it got up on two legs and then jumped through, vanishing from sight.
“Hey! You’re not escaping that easily!” Nemona yelled, charging after it and jumping into the hole without hesitation, like an absolute madwoman. You could hear a startled yelp from her before she vanished from sight. You cried,
“Nemona!”
Hellcat had stopped at the hole, hesitant, but you couldn’t afford to hesitate when Nemona could be in danger. You reached the hole in the wall, finding it was a tunnel coated entirely in smooth rainbow crystal, dripping in water. You hopped up and climbed in, calling,
“Nemona?”
You tried standing, but almost immediately you felt yourself slipping on the wet crystal. Your shoes gave way and you landed on your butt– and then, to your horror, felt yourself sliding through the tunnel. You yelped and tried to stick your arms out to brace yourself, but your slide was way too rapid, and you went shooting through the tunnel on your back like some kind of terrifying water slide. You gave a prolonged shriek as the slide swooped you down in a huge drop, then swooped up again and twisted around and around. The world was spinning in sparkling rainbows, completely disorienting you.
After one final drop and swoop upwards, you felt yourself flung free from the slide, which mercifully spat you out at a speed and distance that was relatively gentle.
You landed on your stomach, colliding with something soft.
“Ooof,” the something grunted, giving you a pretty good idea of what you’d probably landed on. You pushed your torso up with your elbows and met with Nemona’s wide, honey-amber eyes, your faces hardly more than a breath apart.
“Gkkk,” you said, the blood rushing to your face so fast you could hear it roaring in your ears. Nemona giggled. You could feel the giggle ripple through her chest and vibrate your own.
“Hi,” she chirped. You tried to remember how your vocal chords worked. Nemona’s brows quirked up higher in amusement while you struggled, which was frankly making it worse.
“Hhhhiiii,” you finally uttered, proud to get the syllables out. You were briefly lost in the details of Nemona’s eyes, realizing her streaks of golden amber had flecks of tangerine in them. Gosh you were close. Have you ever been this close to her before? You were pretty sure you hadn’t.
“You, um, you need a minute?”
You blinked at her question, confused. The bridge of her nose and cheeks pinkened a little, highlighting her freckles all the more. Her voice was light and playful when she continued,
“‘Cause I don’t exactly mind resting here with you, but we should proooobably get up before that pokemon gets away . . .”
Your brain finally caught up with what she was saying and you squeaked, scrambling to get off your poor friend. It was an entirely graceless affair, but you finally righted yourself and helped Nemona climb to her feet as well, stammering out an excuse to her.
“S-s-sorry, I-I– ummm– I was, uh, a bit dizzy from the slip-n-slide?”
It wasn’t exactly wrong. She laughed,
“Yeah, that was a pretty wild ride, wasn’t it? I was thinking of going again–”
An awful noise interrupted her, shrieky and shrill, coming from the crystal-lined tunnel. The both of you managed to get out of the way before a bright green tiger was expelled from the slide, splatting onto the ground. Its claws were all stuck out and its fur was all frizzed up, its eyes gone huge. Nemona’s Rotom phone went shooting through the slide next, smacking lightly into Hellcat and causing the tiger to jump. The tiger grumbled and shook itself off, looking incredibly disturbed and disgusted with its experience.
“Oh, Hellcat! Aaw, you came down here for me? Are you okay?”
You watched Nemona try to comfort the tiger, feeling grateful for the distraction. Maybe your face would stop burning in like an hour. Nggh. Hellcat still refused to let Nemona actually pet it, and it withdrew to lick itself and sulk, but at least it wasn’t growling at her or anything, so it was honestly progress. Nemona seemed to recognize this fact, telling the pokemon,
“Okay, you need your space, I’ll let you recover from the scary slide. I’m sooo proud of you though Hellcat.”
She moved back over to you, looking you over carefully and asking,
“And how ‘bout you? Still dizzy or anything?”
You glanced away bashfully under her scrutiny, murmuring,
“N-no, I’m good now, I think.”
She nodded and grabbed her backpack off the ground, answering brightly,
“Great! Let’s go find that pokemon before it gets away then!”
She took off before you could respond or even think about mentioning that running ahead and leaping blindly into tunnels was maybe a bad idea. Exasperated, you shouted after her,
“Nemona!!”
Once again you gave chase, following her down the rocky corridor. At least it wasn’t too dark in this part of the cave– if anything, it seemed even brighter, probably due to a larger number of glowing tera crystals. You were grateful when you caught up to Nemona not too far along the path ahead, having apparently cornered the weary Raichu lookalike. Honestly it was impressive how fast she’d tracked it down. She had her Great Tusk out again, but she was busy digging through her bag. When she noticed your approach, she called,
“Oh, Jules, I found them! Come quick!”
You hurried to join her, and she said,
“I’m so glad it didn’t slip away, that would have sucked. Ugh, do you know where your empty balls are, mine kinda rolled around in the chaos–”
“Got you covered,” you answered, grabbing a Dusk Ball from your bag and chucking it at the ancient Raichu. The pokemon resisted and popped out of the ball, but after a few more, the ball finally clicked shut. Nemona cheered and went to pick up the pokeball off the ground, while you tried to catch your breath and get your heartrate back under control. Chasing after Nemona was definitely an experience.
After grabbing the ball, Nemona rushed to you with an excited gleam in her eyes, asking,
“Do you know what this means, Juliana?”
You looked at her, trying to think. After a bit you said,
“Uhmmm, that I probably should have brought more Dusk Balls with me?”
She laughed.
“Well, that too, yeah, but also, Hellcat wasn’t the only new pokemon in Area Zero! There’s more to find down here, I bet a bunch more if we keep going!”
“You think so?”
“Yeah, we’ve already found three species, there’s bound to be more, right? And none of them were mentioned in the Scarlet Book at all, or any of Sada’s notes we happened to read.”
You nodded thoughtfully.
“That’s true . . .”
Nemona pressed the Dusk Ball into your hands, gushing,
“Which means we might be the first trainers in existence to have seen and captured these pokemon!!”
You weren’t entirely convinced you two were the first, since it was always possible Sada had records about them you simply hadn’t noticed. However, it was also equally possible you were the first, and Nemona’s excitement was terribly infectious. You broke into a grin, admitting,
“That is a pretty awesome thought.”
“I know, right?? It’s so cool, I–” She squeezed her hands into excited fists and gave a giddy little giggle, then impulsively grabbed you and hugged tight, your cheeks smooshed together as she exclaimed,
“I’m so glad we got to discover them together!!”
Your skin rippled pleasantly in icy-hot goosebumps, but she released you before your brain had the chance to shut down entirely, which was probably for the best. Then she looked a little self-conscious, saying,
“Sorry. Got a little excited there, heh.”
You hastened to reassure her.
“No, you– you have every reason to be! It is cool, I think I just have a habit of being afraid to hope for things I really want. But if we really are the first . . . that’s incredible. Like, it’s not just finding a new species, it’s finding an ancient, otherwise extinct species. Which is just nuts. And it’s honestly totally possible, since the Time Machine was transporting pokemon completely on autopilot until we finally shut it down.”
She nodded with enthusiasum.
“Yeah, exactly! Okay, I’m glad you get it, I woulda felt weird to be the only one this psyched.”
You smiled and looked down at the pokeball in your hands.
“It’s definitely not just you. Plus, not to get too hopeful but I um, I think maybe this ancient Raichu might be pretty special? Was it just me or did it look like this guy was using electricity and fire at the same time? I dunno if that’s even possible, can pokemon moves be, like, dual-type?”
Nemona nodded again.
“I did notice that. Well, I noticed something funny at any rate. I always thought it was impossible, at school they always told us moves can only be one type. But . . . who knows? We’re in uncharted territory here, so I feel like anything’s possible, you know?”
You thought about that for a bit, rolling the pokeball in your hands. It was incredibly tempting to let the pokemon out and study it to try and learn more right then and there, because it intrigued you so much. But you also wanted to keep exploring the cave, and you knew Nemona would want to, too.
You looked at her.
“Guess we’ll find out more when we battle each other later, huh?”
She grinned.
“I like the way you think.”
You heard a quiet little chirp and glanced up, noticing Hellcat had caught back up to the two of you. Funny, you hadn’t noticed the pokemon make that kind of noise before; it seemed to be some kind of greeting. The tiger’s ears were perked and it looked at you both attentively. Nemona greeted,
“Hi Hellcat! You all dried off and ready for more exploring?”
The tiger made another quiet chirp, as if responding.
“I think they’re starting to like you, Nemona.”
“Really?” She sounded hopeful.
“Yeah. They don’t even try to bite you any more!”
She chuckled.
“Well, I guess it’s something.”
You took the opportunity to finally look around at the cave you’d ended up in, since you hadn’t really had the chance to yet in all the rush. The space was relatively narrow and cramped compared to other parts of the cave, but it was packed full of tera crystals glowing from all sides. The ground was sloped downward, the cave ahead leading ever deeper into the earth.
“How far down do you think that tunnel brought us?”
Nemona was busy quickly re-sorting the empty pokeballs in her bag. She answered,
“No clue.”
You took a glance at your Rotom phone, but as expected, there was no service down here. Obviously. It was a good thing the caves you’d been following so far were generally one-way and not some confusing mazes, or else you’d be worried about getting lost. Getting back up that water slide tunnel would be a bit of a pain on the return trip, but you felt confident Scarlet could carry you guys up if need be.
Turning your focus back to the path ahead, you asked,
“How much deeper do you think it goes?”
Nemona zipped her bag up and slung it back over her shoulder. She smirked,
“No clue. Only one way to find out.”
You couldn’t argue with that logic. As you both began to walk again, you started to tell her,
“So, I was gonna mention, maybe next time when there’s a pokemon or a mysterious tunnel leading somewhere, you could–”
Nemona suddenly stopped, staring ahead intently.
“Wait, did you hear that?”
You frowned.
“Hear what?”
There was a very distant noise echoing in the cave, a low chattery kind of sound that could have been a pokemon cry.
“Geez. You know, your hearing’s scary good.”
“That’s a pokemon! C’mon, let’s go see!”
Nemona started to run, but you lurched forward and grabbed her wrist before she could get away.
“Wait, wait, this is exactly what I’m talking about, Nemona!”
She turned to you, blinking.
“What?”
“You can’t just . . .” You hesitated and sighed, starting again,
“Well, you can, but I’d prefer it if you didn’t just run ahead every time there’s something going on. I get that you’re excited, but you might be charging right into danger! I was really worried when you jumped into that tunnel blindly, that could have ended up pretty badly if it had spit us out from a bit higher up!”
Nemona looked at you a moment, then slumped a little, looking guilty.
“Sorry, Jules . . . I wasn’t trying to worry you. Or, uh, do anything risky. I guess I just was really focused on not letting the pokemon get away . . .”
You smiled gently and said,
“I understand. You don’t have to feel bad about it, I just want to make sure you’re safe, you know? And also, well . . . I’d rather face things together on this adventure. We’re a team, after all.” You suddenly felt a little unsure after saying it outloud and added, “Uhm, I mean, we are, right?”
Nemona studied you a moment, a soft smile forming on her face. Then she reached out and took your hand.
Her voice was clear and certain when she answered,
“You’re right. I’ll remember from now on.”
You returned her smile, relieved.
“O-okay! Then, um . . . let’s go see what that noise was.”
“Yeah!”
You both forged ahead, following a path that continued downward and grew more cramped the more you traveled. At several points it was necessary to squeeze past some large rocks blocking the way; it appeared as though there had been some partial cave-ins at some point in the past. It was an unnerving reminder that you were indeed beneath an enormous amount of earth and rock that could crush you like a bug if something cataclysmic occurred. Thankfully Nemona’s excitement for adventure was an easy distraction, keeping you from dwelling on such thoughts for long. Besides, your curiosity overrode the nervousness you felt. The path seemed to meander down into the earth forever, and for a long time, there was not much to see but rock, dirt and tera crystals. There was nary a wild pokemon in sight, but you kept going anyway.
Then, with very little fanfare, the tunnel you’d been following emerged into a massive space, the ceiling towering above you like an enormous vault of crystal, the path soon leading to a narrow catwalk. On either side of the catwalk was a sheer drop, the ground so far below that it was impossible to even see exactly where it ended. Huge columns of crystal jutted up from the pits, growing at random angles, like the world’s prettiest death trap. For a good thirty seconds you and Nemona just stared silently in awe, taking it all in, eyes wide.
“I don’t know how Area Zero manages to keep getting more and more impressive,” Nemona finally said, her voice hushed, almost as if she were worried that speaking too loud would disturb the peace here. You were gazing down into the pit.
“How does it just keep going down? I bet you’d fall into the Earth’s core if you fell down there.”
Nemona gave a nervous chuckle, taking your hand again.
“Let’s not test that theory. We’ll just take the path nice and slow, okay?”
“Yeah. That sounds good.”
Hellcat moved ahead of you both, not intimidated by the enormous drop. It quickly crossed over the catwalk, reaching a broader area beyond. You and Nemona took your time, mindful of your steps so that you wouldn’t go tripping into the blackness. The air that rose up from the pit was cool and pleasant-smelling, like musty, damp earth. When you reached the other side of the catwalk, you found Hellcat was slinking about, ears perked and nose sniffing the air. It lowered into a crouch and began to stalk forward. Nemona muttered to you,
“I think they found something.”
You both carefully followed after the tiger. Hellcat was approaching a large patch of crystals that were sprouting from the ground. The crystals grew in long and thin columns, almost resembling some kind of plant from the way they were growing, like an aloe vera or some other succulent. You couldn’t see why Hellcat found it so interesting, but as you drew closer you noticed a quiet little chattering noise emanating from the crystals. It sounded a bit like the noise Nemona had noticed earlier, in fact. Perhaps you’d finally caught up to it.
The cry sounded vaguely familiar to you, and you were busy trying to figure out what it reminded you of when you finally caught sight of some movement: a slithering black shape, coiled among the crystals. Hellcat’s eyes narrowed to slits and it looked as though it was preparing to spring. You glanced to Nemona; it seemed she saw no reason to interfere, since Hellcat was basically doing all the work in tracking down the pokemon. You both watched and waited.
Hellcat lunged, striking at the mysterious pokemon with its claws, but the tiger’s paws impacted hard with a crystal instead of a pokemon. There was a harsh cry, raspy and aggressive, and the serpentine black shape reared upwards, a vivid, glowing stripe of orange suddenly lighting up along the length of its body; there was a flash of teeth and glaring eyes as the body swayed, and you realized the pokemon was being reflected over and over in the array of tera crystals, making it extremely difficult to tell where it actually was.
“Uh-oh. Um, any guesses, Nemona?”
The wild pokemon hissed, and you could see a purple tongue flicking around curved, black teeth. From all the reflections, you honestly couldn’t tell how many heads the snake had, because at the moment it seemed like you were staring at a very angry hydra.
“Uuhm, I . . . there! I think. Hellcat, Dire Claw, there!”
Hellcat lashed out where Nemona pointed, but once again was foiled by the fakes, cracking a crystal instead of hitting a pokemon. Despite that fact, the snake didn’t take kindly to the attempted attack. It opened its mouth and spat a fireball. Hellcat tried to dodge but was partly singed by the attack, and it gave an angry shriek in response.
“Oh man. Another fire type? This just isn’t your day, Hellcat, I’m sorry,” Nemona said, looking guilty about the hit Hellcat had taken.
“Don’t worry, Nemona, I have an idea,” you said, quickly checking through your pokeballs for the right one.
“Got it, partner. Let’s back off for now, Hellcat, let Juliana handle this one.”
You grabbed up the ball you needed from your bag and tossed it. The purple form of your Gengar took shape. The ghost looked around at the situation, curious, and then turned his eyes to you.
“Gengar! There’s some sort of . . . uhh, something in that patch of crystals. I want you to use Dazzling Gleam!”
Gengar grinned and nodded, then turned to face his foe. Nine different heads hissed at Gengar, but the ghost was not easily intimidated. He floated forward, a small light starting to build as he charged his attack.
“Cover your eyes, Nemona!”
Gengar unleashed his move, a brilliant white light flashing, reflecting in the crystals dozens and dozens of times; you could see the incredible brightness even behind your closed eyes. The wild pokemon’s cry was loud and grating, and you got the feeling Gengar had hit it hard.
When you opened your eyes, you saw the snake spew a stream of fire in retaliation, engulfing Gengar in flames. The ghost grunted, looking charred and wounded, but stuck it out. You ordered,
“Again Gengar, Dazzling Gleam!”
Your pokemon unleashed another sparkling attack, his foe crying out in pain once more. The snake uncoiled from the tera crystal it was wrapped around and began to slither out of the patch of crystals, perhaps starting to think the better of its hiding place. As its head peeked out, you could see it much better: it had a long, toothy snout and a pair of narrow, purple eyes. The stripe of orange that ran along its body continued up back its neck and onto its head, splitting into a pattern with several prongs on the top of its head. The shape almost made it look as though it were a glowing, orange crown.
The orange crown began to glow brighter and brighter, a sphere of orange energy forming there. The pokemon flicked its head upwards, shooting the ball of energy up into the air over your heads. Your eyes widened. You’d seen this move enough times to recognize it by now.
“Draco Meteor?! Gengar, watch out!” The orange ball of energy exploded, creating a volley of meteors that began to rain down. Neither you or Nemona had expected such a move, so Gengar wasn’t the only one trying to dodge; Hellcat, you and Nemona all scrambled to get out of the path of the meteors as well. You slipped on the ground in your haste, managing to catch yourself before crashing down too painfully. You grunted and twisted around to quickly assess the others– thankfully, it seemed there weren’t any casualties. You yelled,
“Gengar, Dazzling Gleam, one more time!”
Gengar sprang ahead, the flashes of pure fairy energy overwhelming his opponent. Despite how exhausted the snake was by now, it still managed to spit a fireball in return. Gengar trembled and then fainted, and you called,
“That’s okay Gengar, you did great!”
You returned Gengar to his ball, quickly trying to assess if the wild pokemon was catchable by now– it probably was. You reached for your bag, only to realize it had slipped off while you’d been dodging meteors. Aw, nuts. You glanced up when you heard the snake hiss again. It was slithering towards you.
“Nemo–”
“Got you covered!” she responded immediately, throwing a pokeball. The ball hit its target and shook twice, then the snake popped out again, still hissing. She yelled,
“Don’t be stubborn, get in there!”
The second ball she tossed successfully captured, causing you to sigh in relief.
“Thanks, Nemona.”
“Yeah, of course! Great job handling that, by the way– Dazzling Gleam was such a great idea.”
She picked the pokeball up and tried to hand it to you, but you shook your head.
“Keep it, I took the last two.”
“You sure?”
“Yep.”
“Okay! Heheh, this is gonna be so fun to use. I’m guessing it’s Fire/Dragon? I’ve never seen anything use Draco Meteor other than dragon types before, so that’s my best guess.”
You nodded.
“Yeah, seems a good bet to me. It really surprised me, though.”
“I know, right? But then again, you never know with pokemon. Especially these Paradox Pokemon, they seem to have a lot of surprises.”
That certainly was the truth. You surveyed the damage caused by the Draco Meteor. A number of impact craters in the ground but nothing too serious– no catastrophic cave-ins or anything. You were glad none of you had been struck by the attack, though.
“Guess we should make sure to really be on our toes from now on, huh?”
She answered, “Yeah, for sure.” Then, with an excited gleam in her eyes, she turned to you and added,
“But what I tell ya, Jules? We’re already on our third new pokemon, I knew we’d keep finding more!”
You laughed,
“You were right. At this rate we’re gonna be able to write a sequel to the Scarlet Book.”
It was just a joke, but Nemona looked thrilled with the idea.
“Oooh, that’d be so cool! Well, La Primera would have to be okay with releasing information about Area Zero to the public first, I guess . . .”
“And that’s assuming she doesn’t kill us if we tell her that we keep coming down here.”
“Oh come on, she wouldn’t kill us! She wouldn’t be that mad . . . would she?” Nemona looked suddenly uncertain. You shrugged.
“I dunno, you know her better than I do.”
Nemona seemed to consider for a few moments, then said,
“Um, let’s keep exploring!” You didn’t have a problem with leaving thoughts of punishment for another time– you were already down here, and you were going to enjoy it to the fullest while you could. You and Nemona continued onward, mindful to check any patches of crystals from now on in case they contained any surprises. However, nothing else unexpected seemed to be lurking. There seemed to be very few pokemon in general at these depths, in fact. You passed by a few docile Carbink, then walked a path that wasn’t as narrow as earlier, but was close enough to the dizzying drop that you both continued to be careful and take your time.
Eventually you met with another tunnel, covered in smooth tera crystal and leading ever-deeper into the earth. This one was different, though, as it was blocked by a very large collection of crystals. The crystals that composed the roadblock seemed to be denser and more opaque than the usual tera crystals.
“Can you squeeze by?” Nemona asked, trying to see if she could wedge herself between the crystals and the tunnel. You attempted to do so on the other side, but the crystals had grown far too close, almost sealing off the tunnel entirely.
“Nah. We’ll have to use Scarlet.”
You both backed off and sent out Koraidon, then ordered a Rock Smash. Scarlet gave the crystal a good thwack with his tail, but the crystals remained solid.
“Try again, Scarlet!”
He hit it again, but to no effect. Several more attempts, each time with increasing intensity, also ended in failure. Scarlet backed off and licked at his bruised tail, giving a little whine.
“You okay, Scarlet? Hmmph. I don’t think this crystal is gonna budge. Don’t worry, boy, I won’t make you keep trying.”
You returned him to his ball. Nemona crossed her arms, complaining,
“Well this stinks! I wonder why this crystal is so much tougher than the other ones?”
You shrugged.
“It’s pretty big. Maybe it’s older and thicker? At any rate, this might be the end of the line for us.”
She sighed sadly.
“Yeah. It’s starting to look like it.”
Your hand was still resting against the large crystal when a familiar sound echoed within the cavern: a loud, feral roar. Your eyes widened, and you both quickly turned.
Floating high in the air above the pit was a pokemon with crescent-moon shaped wings tipped in a row of feathers. Its forearms had long, sharp talons and its armored head had spiky tufts of feathers and crocodilian jaws. A pair of yellow eyes peered down at you from above.
“Roaring Moon?” Nemona whispered. You nodded silently.
That wasn’t the strangest part, though. The Roaring Moon was Terastallized, which in itself was not unusual. But it wasn’t like any Terastallization you’d ever seen. The pokemon’s body was glittering in an entire rainbow of colors, and its Tera Jewel was . . . more of a Tera crown, studded with a whole slew of shimmering hexagonal gemstones.
Hellcat bristled and growled at the pokemon while you and Nemon exchanged a look, dumbfounded.
The dragon gave another roar.

very slight teal mask and indigo disc story spoilers (the kind that'll probably help decide if you want them or not instead of ruin it for you, probably?) and very long commentary about it. mostly about how they've chosen to advertise it
gonna hit you with my longest run-on sentence yet, here we go.
the fact that we had to datamine the teal mask, a DLC whose only returning character is jacq and does not add a line to or scene of anyone else (well, mentions of heath and clavell, i guess?) due to being available to do at any badge count, the fact that we had to dig and pry in unintended ways, just to finally prove that our implied greatest treasures nemona arven and penny would at least be available to hang out with in the indigo disc...
with no new images footage or mentions of the friend trio of in any of the six months since the DLCs were announced, and ten months after these kids opened their hearts and dorm rooms to us, saying we could hang out any time from now on, and turned out to be statues with one line of dialogue after we had already gone on an adventure with them following us around, helping us in battle, and getting to know each other as we walked, and our rival promised to keep up with our strength forever, then never got any stronger...
and now, in the narrative's timeline, we run off to another country to transfer away from our rival for life's school to one she would fit into perfectly the MOMENT she opens up to us about her problems and how she's so much happier now that we're the first person she can actually connect with and be herself around, and shows clear signs of worry that you're going to leave if she doesn't make you promise not to...
and also shortly after Arven became effectively a high school orphan, who's still treated as kind of a butt monkey dumbass for some reason, when he was putting everything he had into researching how to save his dog, his only dependable family, instead of going to class (i guess he's not telling anybody what he's going through, as usual with these kids)...
because TPC did not think these characters being present in the second DLC in any form and not actually having their newfound, hard-earned sense of belonging ruined by the basic premise of said transfer-student DLC was worth advertising at any point, and only showed off gym leaders Katy and Kofu... and that was only if you even bothered to look at the website to notice the feature at all, because hanging out with, battling, and trading with all of the past characters who aren't present in Paldea anymore is now actually a feature, but wasn't in the trailer...
is fucking mind boggling to me.
why is it a secret that they're in the DLC. why would they not just. tell people that as soon as they revealed the DLC. why is it still supposed to be a secret now, half a year later. why weren't they in the first half. why did they not think we'd be worried that they aren't in the second half.
silly me, why would you want to advertise giving people more of the story and main plot-driving characters, the main thing people defend the rushed game for, or that they might get some resolution, or reassure them that the vaguely happy ending to their sad stories isn't going to be ruined like they've implied it will be? that'd be silly. the only way anyone is going to find that out is through hacking
but at least we were finally able to pry that basic fucking information out of them against their will, the only thing I wanted to know about the DLC before I'd buy it, because they left in placeholder stubs for it by accident. oops. wouldn't want to tell people who were on the fence about getting the DLC this information on purpose or anything. need to keep it a secret
we were able to confirm through our own digging that nemona (and many others) are at least allowed to hang out with us, but the thing that would make both her as a character and me as a Pokemon player happier than we've ever been is if she actually got to enroll with us. why wouldn't she go, right? what do a school and society that don't respect her and an empty home where her parents should be have to offer, compared to living her dream with her favorite person, surrounded by people just like her? who can stop a champion from going wherever she wants? but for that to be the case, one of the "club rooms" we found references to would have to be hers. only us kieran and carmine clearly have what are marked as dorm room objects.
i'm glad we're getting what we're getting, but it's still no guarantee that nemona arven and penny will continue to be important to the story that they were the driving forces of, or get the true resolutions and healthier happy endings that they deserve, or that our "true equal" will ever be any stronger or more important to our character than our home ec teacher, or that they'll ever actually get to be a friend group on screen without life or death situations or harrowing grief being involved
oops! accidentally wrote decent character arcs and relationships in a pokemon game! they're going to spend time together in the postgame! abort abort abort quick shove them off into different countries before they hug
okay that's just me being cynical, they will almost certainly be important to the story, but... TPC has the power to make me not cynical and they keep choosing not to do that. but they do keep making really sappy recap videos using previous cutscene footage, like this attachment and uncertainty is something they're milking on purpose
maybe stringing people along with how much they miss the funny, cute, loving, strong characters, or are worried about these three lonely and isolated kids dealing with parental neglect, ptsd and self loathing, autism and motor impairments, identity issues, and more, whose problems are clearly not resolved yet if they can be at all, will... help sell more plushies and gacha pulls, and get people consuming more spinoffs, or something? idk, maybe
love to stop and helplessly gaze upon penny's depression pile every day before i go do tera raids / link battles with strangers (i don't actually do this but i might if poke portal worked indoors)
that all being said! it's pretty damn cool that hanging out with NPCs in a meaningful way and staging selfies with them and stuff is actually a game feature at all. that much is reassuring. it's a step in the right direction considering 90% of pokemon gameplay for a lot of people takes place after the credits roll and everyone normally despawns or becomes a one liner / repeating boss fight statue, or maybe if you're lucky a Multi Battle partner. it was just implied this game would be different, is all. i just don't know why they've chosen to string their audience along this way. wanting to have friends shouldn't throw up a $35 tollgate right as you go to talk to them that takes a year to open, and over six months to find out if it'll kill them when it opens.
i'd like to see pokemon postgame feel more like an animal crossing life sim type game in the future, personally, and this feature is a step toward that. i'd love if it one of your rewards for completing indigo disc was being able to take anyone you like as a follower as you go about your business and have them get on miraidon/koraidon with you as needed so your movement isn't impeded by it, even if there was no dialogue for it or anything. it's 2023, i shouldn't have to imagine something happening in a video game, or have to fill in my own fanfic to make a story satisfying, it should just be happening, on the screen. dammit. having a follower that goes with you everywhere even if you drive or have a following pokemon already was a feature in teal mask, so why not utilize it permanently?
(is the obvious player arven nemona penny 4v1 battle being saved for the final boss or something, is that why tera raids with them aren't a thing you can just do normally?)
Long story short: The basic transfer-student premise of The Indigo Disc implies that we ruin Nemona's happy ending and rub the one she really wants in her face to go enjoy it with Carmine instead for being more marketable, and I don't think they're even aware of why that would be a problem. Why have we not been reassured to the contrary in the last 6 months? I think a lot of us are waiting for this DLC anxiously instead of eagerly, especially after the first half.
