Engine replacement is needed on a Hyundai Elantra.
Our customer brought the car in because it had a flashing check engine light.
There was a code for a knock signal, and the Master Technician noticed a loud knock coming from the engine.
The compression was good, but he found excessive metal in the oil. This indicates that the bearings are damaged.
If the check engine light is flashing, you shouldn’t drive the vehicle. This symptom could be telling you that there’s an engine problem.

so we got the issue diagnosed in the car and the dude working with me was chill enough to be like hey, just pay for the part, call about the labor when you have the money so I only had to pay $108 on Friday and my car (named Cass, after Cassian, my dad suggested it, it fits :)) isn't shaking anymore and not having as many issues starting. It also drives better.
It turns out the engine was misfiring (all the way home Thursday, which was terrifying, I was scared it was going to stop accelerating on a highway back home). The reason?
Fucking *spark plugs and ignition coils going bad*. If it wasn't still fairly expensive to fix even with us doing it ourselves (~$40 for each coil, $15 I think for each spark plug, possibly less, need 3 new coils and 4 spark plugs, come out to about $165 at least) I'd laugh. I said I was going to laugh if it was something stupidly simple like spark plugs bc it almost felt like my transmission was going (previous two cars have had major transmission issues). If it had been my transmission I was just gonna accept I was cursed to have transmission issues in every car I own.
Just the spark plugs and coils. Just Lol.
