This was the very last illustration I painted for fun... almost two years again, man ;-;
(I should say, I had a short lived blog where I posted this illustration, but the signature reads “kodiak 2020″. I swear on every single bear that’s me, I just decided I wanted to go back to using “dale” as my signature. So if you see it floating around, please don’t think I stole someone’s art lol)

Years later, Zembiec was serving in the Ground Branch of the CIA's Special Activities Division in Iraq when he was killed by small arms fire while leading a raid in Baghdad on May 11, 2007. Zembiec was leading a unit of Iraqi forces he had helped train. Reports from fellow servicemen that were present when he was killed indicate that he had warned his troops to get down before doing so himself and was hit by enemy fire. The initial radio report indicated "five wounded and one martyred" with Zembiec having been killed and his men saved by his warning.

Powerful Iraqi and Yemeni armed groups aligned with Iran have threatened to target U.S. interests with missiles and drones if Washington intervenes to support Israel in its conflict with Hamas in Gaza that already shows signs of expanding to further fronts.
The comments come amid strong support by the United States for Israel's response to the attacks and a U.S. pledge to rapidly provide additional munitions to Israel and deploy a carrier strike group to the Eastern Mediterranean.
In Iraq, Kataib Hezbollah, a powerful armed faction with close ties to Iran, said it would target U.S. bases with missiles, drones and its special forces if Washington intervened in the conflict. U.S. officials have accused the group of previous attacks on U.S interests in Iraq. The group has denied the claims.
The United States currently has 2,500 troops in Iraq - and an additional 900 in neighbouring Syria - on a mission to advise [sic] and assist [sic] local forces in combating Islamic State[...] Iraqi politician Hadi Al-Amiri, leader of political and military group the Badr Organization that is close to Iran, had made similar threats on Monday.
"If they intervene, we would intervene ... we will consider all American targets legitimate," Al-Amiri said on Monday.
Badr comprises a large part of Iraq's Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF), the state paramilitary organisation that contains many Iran-backed factions.
The PMF has voiced its "unequivocal support" for the Palestinian factions fighting Israel and the Iraqi government has said the Palestinian operations were a natural outcome of what it calls "oppressive" policies by Israel.[...]
In Yemen, the leader of the powerful Houthi Movement warned on Tuesday that the group would respond to any U.S. intervention in Gaza with drones, missiles and other military options.

Violating intimacies
Israeli soldiers have photographed themselves posing with the lingerie of Palestinian women they have displaced or killed in Gaza. They join a long line of conquest images, from Abu Ghraib images to the spectacle of Jim Crow-era lynchings.
BY NINA BERMAN
https://mondoweiss.net/2024/02/violating-intimacies/
Tumblr media
These pictures enter a different realm where one’s most intimate relations and private thoughts, feelings, and desires have been penetrated, looted, picked apart, and turned into jokes.
What do we do with pictures like these that burrow in the brain?
They join a long line of conquest images, some more brutal and explicitly violent than others.
I’m thinking of the spectacle lynching images from the Jim Crow American South, where crowds assembled to publicly celebrate and photograph the torture and murder of black men.
I’m thinking of the Abu Ghraib images where American soldiers posed laughing with Iraqi prisoners who they tied up and stripped naked and then forced into the camera’s frame as an additional humiliation.
While these images of IDF soldiers do not explicitly show murder and torture, they implicitly speak to the missing women and their missing men who loved and touched and cared for each other and shared private moments and pleasures. For that space to be violated makes the pictures unbearable.
How do we take the power of these images away from the image makers?
We do that by looking past the uniformed buffoons who are the direct subjects of the pictures and instead dwell on the women not seen but who once lived in these homes and wore the garments, who were mothers and sisters and daughters and lovers with dreams and ideas and concerns.
We do that by insisting on both imagining and preserving in our minds their full beings and refusing the narrative that attempts to sully and flatten them, which is how misogyny operates.
There is another picture circulating. It shows an IDF soldier with a box of new white jeweled dress high heels, which he’s looted from a Palestinian woman. He’s going to bring them home and give them as a present to his woman instead. A souvenir from a genocide.
My mind focuses on the texture of the shoes, the intricate design, and the dimensions of the box. I travel to a place where I can see the woman who bought those shoes. Maybe she was planning to wear them for the wedding of a son or a daughter, or maybe she was going to celebrate her own anniversary or wanted something special for an upcoming family gathering. I eliminate the soldier from the frame and instead hold her close in my thoughts away from his prying hands.

USAF's first female fighter pilot retires
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 09/26/2023 - 08:29 in Military
The career of an Air Force pioneer came to an end this weekend, when Maj. Gen. Jeannie M. Leavitt, the first female fighter pilot of the U.S. Air Force (USAF), retired after 31 years of military career.
Leavitt's retirement ceremony took place at Scott Air Base, Illinois, on September 23. The head of the U.S. Transportation Command, General Jacqueline D. Van Ovost - one of the only three women who have ever led a command of a combat squad - officiated and reminded all those present of the legacy that Leavitt created.
Tumblr media
“[Jeannie] had to deal with a constant demand to be in the spotlight, because of her many premieres, something that does not represent who Jeannie is,” Van Ovost said. "She prefers to stay behind, behind the scenes to guide and educate. Taking care of people and the mission - [this is] the true purpose behind his continuous dedication to service."
Tumblr media
Leavitt's journey in the U.S. Air Force was, in fact, marked by numerous "innovations", challenging preconceived notions about the roles that women could play in the armed forces. She was the first woman to join USAF fighter pilot training in 1993. Later, she made history as the first female fighter pilot in the U.S. Air Force. She was also the first woman to command a combat fighter wing, the 57ª Wing at Nellis Air Base, Nevada.
Throughout her career, she has accumulated more than 3,000 flight hours, including operational missions such as Southern Watch, Northern Watch, Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. Most of his experience was on the F-15E Strike Eagle.
Tumblr media
Van Ovost reflected on the obstacles encountered by women in combat functions during the early 1990s, noting that simply changing policies was not enough. Gaining acceptance and recognition were separate struggles, she added, and Leavitt played a key role during a period of significant change, breaking down barriers that had long kept women out of combat pilot roles.
Throughout her career, Leavitt was a strong advocate for women in aviation and encouraged young women to pursue careers in the Air Force and aviation - four of these pilots appeared in a tribute video during the ceremony.
Tumblr media
His commitment to challenging stereotypes went beyond the military, as he collaborated with Disney on the film 'Captain Marvel' to narrate his journey in the U.S. Air Force and share a more accurate portrait of a lifetime dedicated to service. However, Leavitt's aspirations were never just about personal fulfillment, Van Ovost said.
"On behalf of all those who have traveled by your side and behind you, thank you for having the courageous character necessary to open new paths for others to follow," said Van Ovost.
Tumblr media
Leavitt's final mission was as head of the Air Force Security Center, overseeing the entire program and policy of aviation, occupational, weapons, space and accident prevention and nuclear safety system of the Air Force Department.

Trump is a big fan of war crimes, especially against Muslims. During his first term, he intervened on behalf of Special Operations Chief Eddie Gallagher, a Navy SEAL platoon leader convicted of posing for a photo with the body of dead Iraqi; another SEAL team member told investigators that Gallagher was “freaking evil,” but Trump said at a political rally that he was one of “our great fighters.” Trump also pardoned Blackwater contractors convicted of killing Iraqi civilians in a wild shooting spree in Baghdad’s Nisour Square. There is no chance that he would try to stop Israel from indiscriminately killing Palestinians.
There are limits to Biden’s support for Netanyahu. Trump and the Republican Party have none.

Memorial Day 2024
May 24, 2024
Coming up on Monday is Memorial Day when we honor those military heroes who gave their full measure for the United States of America. Today we will highlight eight people, the first soldier, sailor, marine or airman to give their life during each of America’s major wars.
Revolutionary War:
Isaac Davis (April 19, 1775) a gunsmith from Action, Massachusetts, served as a minuteman during the Battle of Concord and was shot through the heart as his company advanced upon the enemy.
Civil War
Colonel Elmer E. Ellsworth (May 24, 1861) a Union officer leading his troops into Alexandria, Virginia to assist in the occupation of the city, the day after the state’s citizens voted to secede from the Union. In the city, while taking down a Confederate flag, he was shot point blank by an innkeeper.
World War I
Joseph William Guyton (May 24, 1918) was attached to the 32nd Infantry Division in a German-held area of France and served as an automatic gunner, firing off intermittent rounds on a post near the line of resistance. The enemy shot a barrage of machine gun fire into the line where Guyton was struck and killed instantly.
World War II
Robert M. Losey (April 21, 1940) a captain in the Navy, was serving as an air attache’ in Finland when Germany invaded Oslo. Losey and his chauffeur were assisting in the evacuation of American staff and dependents from the United States Embassy. Losey was killed when a bomb exploded nearby and a fragment pierced his heart.
Korean War
Kenneth Shadrick (July 5, 1950) was assigned to the 34th Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division, serving as an ammunition carrier in a bazooka squad sent to stop communist tanks near Sejong, South Korea. As he aimed a rocket at an enemy tank, he stuck his head and shoulders above the gun pit to watch; the tank’s machine gun returned fire, sending one bullet through his right arm, another through his chest, killing him instantly.
Vietnam War
Richard B. Fitzgibbon, Jr. (June 8, 1956) was a member of Detachment 1, 1173rd Foreign Mission Squadron, United States Air Force. Fitzgibbon was not killed in action, but murdered by a deranged American airman who shot him as he was handing out candy to local orphans in Saigon. He and his son, Richard B. Fitzgibbon, III, are also known as one of three father-son duos killed while serving during the Vietnam War. Acknowledgement of Fitzgibbon’s death as the first casualty of the Vietnam War did not come until 1999.
Operation Enduring Freedom – Afghanistan
Johnny Michael “Mike” Spann (November 25, 2001) was serving in the CIA’s paramilitary Special Activities Division, having previously served in the Marine Corps as a captain. Spann was dispatched to Afghanistan soon after September 11, 2001, to find Osama bin Laden. Near Mazar-e-Sharif, the CIA was holding al Qaeda fighters in the recently captured fortress of Qala-i-Jangi. Spann was killed while interrogating Taliban fighters, in particular, American Taliban John Walker Lindh. Spann was attacked when the Taliban fighters launched themselves at Spann, who took out seven men with his pistol before being killed. Spann is now memorialized with a star on the CIA Memorial Wall at CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia.
Operation Iraqi Freedom
Therrell Shane Childers (March 21, 2003) served as a second lieutenant Marine Corps assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division – one of the first cleared units to enter Iraq. After the battalion secured a pumping station at the Rumaila oil fields, 20 miles north of the border with Kuwait, Iraqi soldiers unloaded from a pick-up truck and in a drive-by, Childers was shot once in the stomach. The injury became fatal when his motion to fire at those in the truck lifted his body armor, leaving him exposed.
Each of these stories makes me proud and sad at the same time; proud that each of these heroes were willing to sacrifice themselves for our country; sad their lives were cut short.
Every person reading this post will know of family members, neighbors or others who have chosen to serve the United States of America; please take a moment to reflect and give thanks for these people.
From 1868 to 1970, Memorial Day was observed on May 30. Since 1971, it has been observed on the last Monday of May and has become the unofficial start of summer.
Enjoy your Holiday and Thanks for being here.
Tom Maloney

I am starting to think the Kurds were behind the rumors of WMD in Iraq 2003. Think about it. Chemical weapons had previously been used against them, they hated Saddam, want their own state, Peshmerga even did a lot of the fighting in northern Iraq, helped by US military advisors, special forces and air force.
Just saying, operation iraqi freedom "coincidentally" created a lot of opportunities for the kurds to cease power in northern Iraq. Going to get assassinated by the Kurdish mafia now

USAF launches retaliatory airstrikes against Hezbollah military bases in Iraq 🇮🇶
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 01/25/2024 - 15:00 in Military, War Zones
On January 24, 2024, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that it had conducted air strikes against facilities used by the Kataib Hezbollah (KH) militia group in Iraq.
This action was a response to previous attacks attributed to the KH, including one at the al-Asad air base in western Iraq on January 20.
The attacks were initiated after a series of incidents involving Kataib Hezbollah (KH), including a missile attack on U.S. military bases. In retaliation, the U.S. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles targeted several locations in eastern Syria and western Iraq. The U.S. attacks focused on three specific locations associated with KH and other groups affiliated with Iran, including its headquarters, storage facilities and training centers for rocket, missile and UAV capabilities.
Tumblr media
One of the targeted sites was a KH military base in Jurf Al-Nasr, Iraq, known for storing a large hiding place of rockets and ballistic missiles, leading to several secondary explosions. Other attacks targeted at least six bases in the Iraqi provinces of Al-Anbar and Babylon, which were linked to the IRGC's Kataib Hezbollah, with the aim of degrading their operational capabilities.
In response to U.S. military actions, Abu Ala al-Walai, secretary general of Kata'ib Sayyid al-Shuhada, an Iraqi Shiite radical militia affiliated with Hezbollah, criticized the attacks. He called for increased actions against U.S. and Israeli targets, including a blockade of Israeli navigation in the Mediterranean Sea and attacks on Israeli ports, indicating a potential escalation in hostilities.
Tumblr media
The Pentagon, represented by Secretary Lloyd Austin, described U.S. military attacks as "necessary and proportional", intended to prevent further attacks against U.S. troops and ensure their safety. These operations took place in the context of the increase in attacks on American bases in Iraq and Syria, marking an increase in hostilities that were relatively infrequent before the recent escalation in the Gaza Strip.
Simultaneously, tensions increased when Hezbollah recently launched an attack on an air traffic control base of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in Meron, northern Israel. This attack resulted in minor damage, but without victims, and was claimed by Hezbollah as retaliation against alleged Israeli actions in Lebanon and Syria. After that, the Israel Defense Forces strengthened their defensive measures in sensitive locations and conducted retaliatory attacks against Hezbollah and Iranian positions in Lebanon.

This is the main explication why the collective West is unable to sustain a war of attrition in Ukraine. Till Ukraine proxy war, the west was lulled by a triumphalist mind and feelings of invincibility as If we look back of its previous wars of aggression since the demise of the USSR, the western armies and NATO’s miliary forces were able to share their resources and to defeat swiftly and easily the armies of their adversaries. One can remember that following Saddam Hussein’s incursion in Kuweit in August, 1990, George Bush Senior formed international coalition of 32 countries to wage a blitzkrieg against the Iraqi regime on January 16, 1991 leading to the destruction of the Iraqi army and its expulsion from Kuweit. In 1999, after 78 days of bombing, NATO’s member states defeated the Serbian army. One decade after the Gulf war, on October 2001, the United States, under the pretext of fighting terrorism, formed another international coalition leading to the fall of the Taliban regime in Kabul within days and the occupation of this central Asia country during 20 years. In March 2003, the United States supported by its European and the Middle East proxies invaded Iraq and occupied the country in only two months. In 2011, NATO’s military forces destroyed Libya in only seven months, from March to October of this year. Till Ukraine proxy war, the United states achieved its economic, political and geopolitical goals in Iraq and Libya within a short time without a huge mobilization of military resources. Till the launch of Russian military special operation, the West appears to be confident that it is the master of the universe and that its military strength could be allowed to be the most powerful and invincible bloc in the world. But two years after the Russian military operation, the collective west starts realizing its Ukraine proxy war was a trap as this current war is not the other wars of the past and that its military forces which were able to defeat weak countries like Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya have no sufficient resources to sustain a war of attrition against Russia. This explain the disarray and desperation of the western bloc as its industrial military complex is not prepared to cope with the military situation on the battlefield in Ukraine by sustaining mass production of military equipment and ammunitions.  The series of defeats inflicted to the Ukrainian armed forces in the last months and weeks show that the western backers of Kiev regime are unbale to cope with the disastrous posture on the battlefield and to sustain a long war of attrition.

"On 29 November 1947, the United Nations General Assembly, voting 33 to 13 in favour with 10 abstentions, adopted Resolution 181 (II) (though not legally binding)[581] recommending a partition with the Economic Union of Mandatory Palestine to follow the termination of the British Mandate. The plan was to partition Palestine into an "Independent Arab state alongside a Jewish States, and the Special International Regime for the City of Jerusalem".[582] Jerusalem was to encompass Bethlehem. Zionist leaders (including the Jewish Agency), accepted the plan, while Palestinian Arab leaders rejected it and all independent Muslim and Arab states voted against it.[583][584][cxliii] Almost immediately, sectarian violence erupted and spread, killing hundreds of Arabs, Jews and British over the ensuing months.[citation needed]
The UN resolution was the catalyst for a full scale civil war. For four months, under continuous Arab provocation and attack, the Yishuv was usually on the defensive while occasionally retaliating.[585] Arab volunteers of the Arab Liberation Army entered Palestine to fight alongside the Palestinians, but the April–May offensive of Yishuv forces defeated the Arab forces and Arab Palestinian society collapsed. By the time the armistice was signed, some 700,000 Palestinians caught up in the turmoil fled or were driven from their homes."
On 14 May 1948, David Ben-Gurion and the Jewish People's Council declared the establishment of a Jewish state in Eretz Israel (The Land of Israel), to be known as the State of Israel.[586] The neighbouring Arab states intervened to prevent the partition and support the Palestinian Arab population. While Transjordan and Egypt took control of territory designated for the future Arab State, Syrian and Iraqi expeditionary forces attacked Israel without success. The most intensive battles were waged between the Jordanian and Israeli forces over the control of Jerusalem.[citation needed]
On June 11, a truce was accepted by all parties. Israel used the lull to undertake a large-scale reinforcement of its army. In a series of military operations, during the war it conquered the whole of the Galilee region, both the Lydda and Ramle areas, and the Negev. It also managed to secure, in the Battles of Latrun, a road linking Jerusalem to Israel. However, the neighboring Arab countries signed the 1949 Armistice Agreements that ended the war, and have recognized de facto the new borders of Israel. In this phase, 350,000 more Arab Palestinians fled or were expelled from the conquered areas.
