Why was Jaeherys the Conciliator so against a woman inheriting the iron throne. like what happened during his reign and childhood lol.

After maegors rule ended, it was his mother queen alyssa who was his regent wasnt she(yes,robar too,but) and he also greatly took on his wife alysannes advice on things, especialy early on during his reign. so my point is what happened in between his 50 yr reign that made him against rhaenys being queen?

There was a theory i heard that it was wouldve been hypocritical if he chose rhaenys as heir since it would mean his reign and his descendants reign would ve in danger since the people can say that princess aerea shouldve been queen,instead of jaeherys.

But that theory is rubbish considering that even though aerea was aegon the uncrowned's eldest heir(jaeherys's older brothers first child) and technically shouldve gotten the crown according to the laws of westeros(see even in westerosi culture allowed women to rule land,if they were no other brothers ofcourse). Im pretty sure jaeherys's claim was stronger. Yes, even though according to the laws of westeros the crown shouldve gone to her or her mother rhaena. But in jaeherys's case, he got the throne back through rebellion. Yes, technucalky he never fought in it,cos he was too young, but leal lords started supporting him after maegor started going more coo coo during his reign. They never supported rhaena cos she was still one of maegors queens.

When maegor finally died the lords who fought for jaeherys ofcourse wanted him to take the iron throne cos theyve been fighting for him.

Alright thats fine also, ...spoiler for fire and blood...aerea doesnt even live long enough to have children so they can fight for their rights and her sister rhaelle became a septa so like...

Now maybe he was just being a sexist.

Nah that answer is too simple, bc jaeherys,though traditionist still had female heirs when he just became king it was aerea. After, his daughter,daenerys was born(technically he had a son b4 but died in the crib),she also became an heir,untill aemon was born. So technically hes okay with a girl heir,but i suppose he was still young then and thought that he would definetely have sons.

So like back to my point he had strong women by his side like alysanne so...

Omg is it bc rhaenys kinda reminded him of his unuly daughters.

Like i know baelon technically became heir b4 viserra and im pretty sure the saera situation. Maybe he looked at alyssa s alusive nature and his other daughters being spoiled brats and thought nope.

But🤚guys i have a theory....

So u know it was mentioned in fire and blood, that the reason viserys insisted on rhaenyra staying as heir was because of love. But the show incorporated him as a dreamer and the show also corporated that the targaryen kings knew about the song of ice and fire. What if viserys chose rhaenyra bc he fuzzily foresaw that the prince that was promised came from rhaenyras line.

It has a lot plotholes i know,like why didnt he just make rhaenyra and aegon marry each other(since in the book im pretty sure theyre only like 8 or 9 yrs apart)

But with this theory, with jaeherys naming baelon heir, what if he too foresaw that it was baelon's and not aemons line that brought the prophecy to fruitition.

But alas why didnt he tell alysanne this,cos my girl literally fought,untill her dying breath for rhaenys to be made queen.

But i suppose the logical reasoning as to why baelon was chosen as heir is that though jaeherys was a good king,george needed a reason for the dance of the dragons to ignite, even though it will happen literally a generation later... So he made baelon his heir.

Your opinion on the couple of Alysanne and Jaehaerys? Honestly, I find them toxic... Plus they were shitty people. What some seem to tend to forget.

At first, they seemed like a good match. They got married in secret because Alysanne didn’t want the husband their parents chose for her, which was bold of them, and I’m glad a woman got to chose her own husband. But after the famous First and Second Quarrels, I’m not sure at all they loved each other in the end. Jaeherys seemed to have absolute power over Alysanne, and wasn’t what I woud call a good husband. He seemed to care that she kept having baby after baby, was a misogynist, and thought himself better than anyone else. But what’s remembered the most is that Jaeherys, who succeded to Maegor, brought prosperity, peace and stability in the Seven Kingdoms, so people don’t pay much attention to him as a person.

Alysanne... I feel for her. Losing her daughters, the famous Quarrels with Jaeherys, how she begged him to bring Saera home only to be told “she’s dead, bury her” because Jaeherys couldn’t forgive the dishonor she brought on him... I know some people blame her for not doing anything, but although she had lot of power as Queen, Jaeherys was still the King and his word was Law. She still did great things on her own, such as the abolition of the disgusting “first night”. She did speak out when she didn’t agree, like for the succession:

The most prominent dissenter was Good Queen Alysanne, who had helped her husband rule the Seven Kingdoms for many years, and now saw her son’s daughter being passed over because of her sex. “A ruler needs a good heart and a true heart,” she famously told the king. “A cock is not essential. If Your Grace truly believes that women lack the wit to rule, plainly you have no further need of me.”

So yes, I agree they were toxic, and I’m not fond of Jaeherys, but I don’t consider Alysanne as a shitty person at all. For me, she deserves to be called Good Queen Alysanne.

well when your father looks at you and only sees an incarnation of his own sister-wife because you were put on this earth for him to groom into a future child bride for his sons or summarily disposed of it is a bit of a crazymaking situation.

I think the reason Jaehaerys acted inexplicably genuinely shocked every single time one of his teenage daughters got to marrying age and someone suggested that they get married was because he thought that he was going to be the only man in their lives forever because there is something deeply wrong with him. and then their mom is arranging these crazyass matches with older men to live vicariously through them because she never got to choose a partner, so it really is just a complete and total psychosexual codependency enmeshment nightmare.

-think something had to be extremely wrong with valyrian tradwife never allowed to develop an independent identity Alyssa below the surface. because being named the golden child by responding positively to the grooming telling you to peg your brother and wanting to birth him an entire army of sons before dying at 23 definitely speaks to….something. where else do daemon‘s mommy issues come from

-Daella exists to be a victim and dies giving birth to her daughter who also exists to be a victim. sacrificial lamb parthenogenesis.

-Maegelle got out of everything else simply by being conceived with the explicit intention of being a living tithe. somehow the least crazy situation on this list. 

-I don’t know whether or not it is intentional that Saera is written exhibiting so many of the behaviors indicative of being a CSA victim. hypersexual alcoholic dysregulated fifteen year-old being held down and forced to watch her father chop her boyfriend in half by her mom‘s codependent female bodyguard is an experience you could throw the entire works of Sigmund Freud at and come up lacking. i hope lys was nice.

-Viserra being exiled for absorbing too much of the Targaryen grooming background radiation and getting falling down drunk at 15 before making a move on her brother. this just keeps happening to them. I’m sure it’s a coincidence. insane that Alysanne really felt like she was competing with her own daughter here because I know she was a #boymom with baelon and aemon.

-I think it’s interesting how no one mentions Gael ever again after she kills herself and no one seems to think of her at all given the fact that she’s daemon’s age and presumably would’ve interacted with any of the grandkids. I know it’s because textually she’s just an afterthought, but I think it would be interesting if her yellow wallpaper ass existence and the fact that she is basically a pet for her mother her entire life just sort of renders her posthumously unspeakable. no one wants to talk about what happened to her.

Guys, now we're going to laugh. I've seen some debate online regarding how Jaehaerys would feel about Alicent and Viserys marrying. Some people write quite persistently that Jaehaerys would have approved of such a marriage and in general he loved Alicent like a daughter, and even more than his real daughters.

Firstly, about that Jaehaerys mistook Alicent for his daughter. Jaeherys had senile dementia and he no longer recognized the people around him. Anyone could have been on Alicent place; Jaehaerys still confused someone else with Saera.

Secondly, let's look at marriages among the descendants of Jaehaerys. Initially, he planned to betroth his heir Aemon to Daenerys, and after her death to Alyssa. And he really would have done it if not for Alysanne's intervention. As a result, Jaehaerys approved the marriage of his heir to Lord Baratheon's sister, who was half Velaryon from her mother side. There is no need to write about Baelon and Alyssa. Before Vaegon was sent to the Citadel, Jaehaerys did not consider any other candidates for the role of Vaegon's wife, except for one of his sisters. Daella married Lord Arryn. Of the three young men from Saera's inner circle, two were heirs, and one was a young lord. If the king had never found out what his daughter was doing, he would have allowed Saera to marry one of these young men. Viserra was betrothed to Lord Manderly. Great-granddaughter of Jaehaerys, rider of the oldest and largest dragon in the world, daughter of Lord Velaryon, whose mother and brother are also dragonriders. A marriage between Viserys and Laena would unite the bloodlines of Jaehaerys' favorite sons, Aemon and Baelon.

Jaehaerys would never have approved of Viserys' marriage to Alicent, given the fact that the marriage produced a sullen and lustful slacker, a stupid and hot-tempered psychopath (who was a cheap version of Maegor), and a "gentle", "polite" and "daring" terrorist and war criminal.

summary: Daemon Targaryen loved the great things in life, but none was as loved as the Lady Aelnerys.

Prologue

House Malaemor once held power in the Freehold of Old Valyria, its dragonriders and gold made enemies aware of the fate that awaited them should a threat arrise. As gloroius as their motto, and as greedy as their gold, the Malaemor's lost their power after the doom. But that was not the end.

Establishing theirselves in an isle close to Dragonstone, the Malaemor's lived as a sworn house to the Targaryens. In the age of the conquest a daughter was promised, so that in the end the last three valyrian houses would once again reign from the skies. A promise who would only come to fruition later, on the reign of Jaeherys I.

The Lady Jocelyn Baratheon had two daughters with her husband, the late crown prince Aemon Targaryen, Rhaenys and Rhaena. Rhaenys would wed the Lord of Driftmark, Colrys Velaryon, and Rhaena would fulfil her ancestors promise and marry the Lord of Gaahil, Vaenar Malaemor. 

The daughters of Jocelyn Baratheon would not be queens, but from their blood dragonriders would be born, a promise would come true and the last blood of old valyria would once again rule from the skies.

Second moon of the 111th year after the conquest

Prove himself better was always easily accomplished for Daemon Targaryen. Weak Viserys without a warrior bone in his body and a dead dragon at his back had nothing on the Prince of the City, claimed as the warrior reborn and rider of the bloody wyrm.

But Viserys was King, and Daemon was not, his brother had the crown he desired, so a decision was taken. He went and conquered a kingdom to himself, a crown of crab embroider by flesh.

But Viserys was still King, and Daemon, the Rogue Prince who liked to conquer surrender his kingdom to his brother.

Conquerors were not meant to be at only one place, and so the rogue prince flew. On his scary wyrm with the color of blood and screech of pain.

A visit to a cousin long overdue was made, and a match from the havens itself awaited.

Prince Daemon Targaryen arrival at the Isle of Gaahil was announced by the laid screech of his winged mount. While the sight of dragons was common around the isle, courtiers and commoners alike found that seeing the wyrm round their heads up in the sky was like waiting for a judgement to be passed.

The Targaryens were always closer to gods than to men.

Awaiting the rogue prince on top of the stairs in the keep of Cyalbelle, the Lord and Lady Malaemor, together with their three children, the ruling family of Gaahil made an imposing sight dressed in indigo and gold.

"Cousin, so lovely of you to receive me here, why, one would think that you even missed me." The Prince said with his signature smirk adorning his face. His silvery tresses shined in the warm light of the sun, and purple eyes were alight with enjoyment.

"My Prince, it is an honor for you to join us. Please, be welcomed to Gaahil." Lady Rhaena's face didn't give away any of her thoughts as she stepped forward. "Let me introduce you to my family, cousin." She indicated to the people who stood in a line behind her.

The only acknowledgment that came from the man was a raised brow and the deepened plastered smirk on his face.

"My Prince, it is an utmost pleasure to have you here." The tall Lord with the deep green orbs said while bowing. "We've all heard of your victory on the Stepstones, allow me to give you my most sincere congratulations. "

"Please Lord Vaenor none of this formality, we are after all family."

"Of course." The Lord said, eyes trailing the Prince as if trying to read him. He then looked at his wife and with a swift nod the attention was turned back on her.

"Cousin, I'm happy to introduce you to my eldest son and heir of Gaahil, Vinarr, and his brother Maelerys." Both men were of lithe building, much like their father, with stern faces and glowing green orbs. Their classic valyrian hair covered their faces when bowing they muttered 'my prince'.

"And of course our daughter, Aelnerys." The Lady introduced the last person on the line.

The prince lost his air.

Daemon Targaryen has traveled through many places in the known world, he has seen many beauties and fucked most of them, but none would come close to that of the lady he looked at.

The trend mark silver hair of the valyrians shined, her moonkissed skin looked soft and perfect to be marked on, her body was that of the maiden herself, but the eyes...oh, the eyes.

One could look in their deeps and get lost, for green battled with indigo, and created the most beautiful thing a man could gaze upon to.

"My prince." A soft courtesy was offered, her head bowed and voice melodious.Daemon offered his hand, who she promptly took and besotted a suave kiss on the fingers.

"My lady."

Their eyes locked.

"The moonkissed lady loved her scarred prince, for him only did her heart soared like it was flying through the sky and her soul burned a blazing fire that nothing in the world could erase."
