Kevin McHale, Jenna Ushkowitz, Amber Riley, and other Glee cast members have reunited to add their voices to a previously unreleased song by their late costar, Naya Rivera.
Prayers for the Broken was recorded by Rivera in 2012. New background vocals have been added by McHale, Ushkowitz, Riley, Heather Morris, Vanessa Lengies, and Ashley Fink.
The song is now available online for download, streaming, or purchase, released as part of nonprofit Alexandria House’s annual Snixxmas Charity Fundraiser honoring Rivera, who was a supporter of the Los Angeles-based charity. The organization provides safe and supportive housing for women and children.

And That's What You Really Missed...
I finally had a chance to listen to the first two episodes of Kevin and Jenna's Glee podcast reboot.
Wow.
As a Glee fan from day one, these two episodes were a fantastic treat. Both episodes featured their conversation with Ryan Murphy about how the show made it on the air, his struggles, the craziness once it took off, regrets and joy. It was really, really good and, at least for me, so many things finally make sense. I really appreciated Ryan's honesty and vulnerability, and it made me happy to hear that something I love is loved by those who created it.
A few nuggets that had me reeling:
Justin Timberlake as Mr. Schue?! I love Justin, but...um...no.
Whitney Houston wanting to be on the show but not quite being in the right place. Talk about foreshadowing.
Jennifer Lopez and Anne Hathaway wanting to be on the show. How fun would that have been!
Hearing Ryan's struggles and growth as an individual. As someone who remembers how hated he was by fandom (maybe he still is?), this was fascinating to hear.
Can't wait for the next episodes!

Here is my recap of the Kendra Giardi (w/ Jennifer Aspen) episode of the podcast.
Happy Thanksgiving to those in the US.
Glee the fandom that never dies.
Jennifer’s daughter had watched all the seasons of Stranger Things but hasn’t watched Glee.
She thinks her daughter will be embarrassed when she watches glee.
Kevin can barely take care of himself.
The most screen capped scenes with Jennifer are the fake birthing lessons and the scene with Dr. Wu.
(Side note: I watch 9-1-1 and I never realized Dr. Wu and Chimney are played by the same actor. I am so stupid.)
The cast would quote Jennifer’s scenes all the time.
She thanked everyone for being so supportive and nice to her on set.
Jennifer auditioned for Terri! She sang in her audition. She sang Red Neck Woman.
Ryan wrote Kendra for Jennifer. She immediately said yes.
She wasn’t confident at first and was in a state of shock about getting a part on Glee. She knew Glee was going to be a hit.
Jennifer is opinionated about her characters costumes but she didn’t have anything to say seeing Kendra’s costumes. She was a fully formed character. That is just how good Ryan can be when he created characters.
When Jennifer joined she liked that the set was busy. That she could sit on the stoop of her trailer and just talk to people.
Kevin said the real show was what was happening at base camp.
During the second half of season 1 everyone was so busy they would take naps.
Kevin wasn’t a napper. He would be out looking for people to hang out with while everyone was taking a nap.
The storks glee told meant a lot to people. It was nice to experience.
Jennifer missed the Twitter evolution.
Chris was the reason she joined Twitter.
The young padawan showed her the way.
Kevin got everyone into Twitter.
A new wave of people is finding glee for the first time.
The show captures what is happening right now in culture.
Jennifer started reading off the Glee Wiki for Kendra. Interests: herself. Talent: scheming and bribery. Strengths: manipulation. Weaknesses: common sense and people not listening to her schemes.
The crazier someone is the funnier it is to Jennifer.
She loved the scheming aspect of Kendra. It was just so stupid.
Jennifer’s husband said to her lovingly that she is really good at playing stupid idiots.
Jennifer has a production company with Kristin Chenoweth.
She never met Kristin on set.
Everyone falls in love with Kristin.
Their production company is called Sparkle and Shine.
Kristin taught them to say dead puppies to try not to laugh during scenes. It didn’t work. Kevin still uses it.
The Dr. Wu scene makes Jennifer laugh.
I know some powerful midsize law firms.
So many golden moments in that scene.
Birth isn’t like it is in the movies. It’s bloody. It’s messy and you get poop all over your cowboy boots.
Kevin would like a Terri and Kendra spin-off.
Ryan keeps typecasting Jennifer as complete morons.
Jennifer’s one regret from glee is that she never got to sing.
If you need a good laugh listen to this episode. It’s so funny.

Glee Musical Retrospective: True Colors (Hairography)
youtube
Sung by: Tina Cohen-Chang w/New Directions Original Artist(s): Cyndi Lauper
Hey, it's the first real Tina solo - her only one of the season and... well, I mean it's here. Let's talk about it.
Story Analysis
The whole episode has babbled on and on about 'distractions' and in a rebuke of that we have True Colors -- a song about seeing a person for their worth and value and their 'true colors', as well as encouraging them when in their darkest of places. It's a sweet sentiment - and, like Imagine, is getting at the heart of what the show is -- being true to yourself, and believing that there's always someone there to take your hand so you won't fall.
True colors are beautiful like a rainbow and so are you. ;) This is Glee at its simplest, and most straightforward, but I think the messaging works, especially at the end of an episode that is all about distracting reality.
Why is Tina singing this song? Well - I don't have any great in-narrative answers for you. I think the honest answer to this question is that Jenna Uskowitz had yet to be featured on the show, and -- in the way that Artie and Mercedes often were giving musical numbers to sing when they didn't have plot -- they let Tina sing one for the heck of it. I also suppose you could argue that Tina is one of the few characters who is authentically herself from the beginning -- but then there's the whole stuttering thing that hasn't been resolved yet, and I can't fully stand by that assessment.
Meanwhile -- there are a whole lot of unspoken things going on here.
Finn and Quinn have a reconnecting moment. Finn genuinely smiles at her -- there is care in his eyes for her. Quinn (is she the one with the sad eyes?) is still conflicted over her actual feelings for Puck (and the knowledge that Puck's the dad of her baby) but is comforted by Finn and what a good guy he'll be -- especially if he helps raise her baby. There's a lot of unspoken things going on in her looks, and I think I haven't given Diana Agron enough credit for being nuanced with nonverbal acting.
"It's hard to take courage" - Kurt's sending wistful looks in Finn's direction. They've had some bonding moments in the past few episodes, but while he's becoming more accepting of himself and his attraction to other boys, the reality of Finn always being just out of reach -- and Rachel's words to him -- are heavy on his heart. He can show his 'true colors' all he wants, but it won't be an easy road.
"The darkness inside you makes you feel so small" - the push in on Puck on this line is fascinating, as it's clear that Puck knows he keeps screwing up, but also knows what he feels for Quinn is real, and doesn't know how to control his impulses to follow what his heart really wants.
"Don't be afraid to let them show" - a push in on Rachel looking over at Finn. She's always worn her heart on her sleeve, and remains confident in her feelings, even if Finn is conflicted about having feelings for both Quinn and Rachel.
Also, there's this fascinating moment where the camera zooms from Rachel to Finn to Puck to Quinn to Kurt to Finn and it's just a really cool plethora of non-verbal acting. You know what all of these characters are thinking and feeling, and for once, Glee isn't pounding you over the head with it. It's a nice way to tie up the story lines in the episode and yet be understanding that we're still in the middle of the story.
I'm kinda amused that the characters who don't have story in this episode are just, like, happily singing along. Artie, Mercedes, Mike --- just chilling and having a good time, kind of unaware of all the tension beneath the surface of this song.
Technical Thoughts
Okay, I'm going to be honest about something, but I'm not going to harp on it. I don't think this version is very good. Jenna Ushkowitz has a lovely voice, but here it sounds like it's been manufactured through auto-tune, and not in a good way. She also goes out of tune, especially at the end, and (ha) I find it distracting.
Look - if you like the song - that's great! Don't let me tell you you can't enjoy it - because you definitely can! And it was probably due to the fact that they had little time to record, and maybe she only had a single pass at it. Who knows? But I find it unfortunate that Tina's only chance to really shine in Season 1 is marred by some bad technicalities.
Meanwhile - I do like a lot of the set up during the performance. The use of solid colors in costuming against the vivid background imagery works really well. It helps complement the bold statement of 'true colors'.
The costuming of the characters is interesting -- in that I think they're each outfitted in colors that work well on them. But if anyone wants to do a color break down, that'd be awesome. @snarkyhag maybe?
Also, it should be noted that they're sitting on stools while singing -- something that Will had pushed against in the beginning of the episode. The whole point of the number is to strip the music to its emotional core and hear what the music is really saying. (I still digress by saying that music doesn't have to be still and simple to be emotional but this is the effect Glee continues to go for, and visually, it makes a lot of sense.)
Glee Live
youtube
For all of you hating be for my statement above - I think this is a much better performance. It's still a little pitchy, but you can hear the real beauty of Jenna's voice. This version has much more personality. I also really enjoy the cast in all of these tour videos. I realize this was super hard on them, but I think the fact that they genuinely like each other often comes out.
vs. The Studio Version: The studio version, of course, is longer because it has a repetition of the chorus extending it another full minute. (And also a kind of weird spoken word thing going on, what??) I think it's better than the show version (it seems to be cleaner? Maybe they had more time with the track? idk). But I'm sorry - I'm never going to love this one.
vs. The Original Version: I'm always so amused going back to the original 80s track, which is so synth. Just, wow, I sometimes forget listening to the Glee versions at how 'of their time' these songs originally are. I kind of wonder - was Jenna trying to emulate Cyndi Lauper's somewhat girlish voice? Is that why I think the singing sounds a little weird?
Sometimes the first time I see these music videos is when I'm doing it for this retrospective. Omg, what even is this video. I mean, it's so 80s, but still, omg. I'm glad Glee went for its own narrative reflections and didn't really take a whole lot of inspiration from the video.

Why are they/did they, arrange your characters Marriage?:
My parents wanted me to really married someone that wasn’t the same sex, even though I told them I was bisexual and that I am into both genders.  But sadly they don’t want me to marry like a Woman.  It hard because I really have crush on both the types and that not even sure.
How do you feel about the person your parents chose for you?: How your character honestly feels: Honestly I really don’t know this Joe person that well, but maybe getting to know him will help.   I think it would  be nice to get to know him, even if we have been signed up  to be married together.  Now for My Parents picking him for me, it wasn’t something I was expecting, and  well honestly I wish that I could be the person that picks someone.  So guess being arranged to marry this person, will be unique.
Bio:
Tina was a shy child and not very confident compared to her peers in the same age group and was hard for her to make friends. However what she enjoyed when it came to hobbies was reading, writing and dancing. Tina read classic novels from Jane Austin to Tolkien and comics such as Marvel, DC and Archie Comics. In sixth grade though she started to develop a pretend stutter. Something she would continue to do until high school.
During middle school Tina found out from her parents that she was adopted, something which gave her a lot of confusing emotions, but the strongest was shock, anger and hurt. She felt disconnected from the family she’s loved all her life for a while but once they talked and things settled, she made up with them but it still left her with questions and a quiet need to find her biological parents. Did she have siblings, why was she given up for adoption etc. Tina is still close with her parents and know they will support her in whatever she does.
Even being adopted into a rich family , it was easy for her to afford mostly everything she wanted. But she never was the type to act spoiled or beg for things, she just wanted to be a nurturer and care for others.  Sometimes she was just used to being in the background of others, and now that she older she wants to be notice a little bit.   They weren’t the richest in town, but at least she had something of being some what wealthy.
