Song Review: Susan Tedeschi - “Voodoo Woman”
Had it been included on Susan Tedeschi’s Just Won’t Burn, “Voodoo Woman” might’ve been the LP’s standout track.
But the Koko Taylor cover remained on the control-room floor waiting for the 25th anniversary of Tedeschi’s second solo LP to roll around. It’s finally out to announce the Sept. 22 release of the Just Won’t Burn reissue, and finds Tedeschi wailing over smooth blues that recalls the Robert Cray Band - both wildly authentic and widely accessible.
“Voodoo Woman” is one of two outtakes - “Waste of Time” being the other - that’ll appear alongside the original 1998 album, an alternate take of “Looking For Answers” and live versions of the title track and “Looking for Answers” as performed by Tedeschi Trucks Band in 2022.

KoKo Taylor :: Wang Dang Doodle
Wang Dang Doodle is a blues song written by Willie Dixon for Howlin' Wolf at Chess Records. The song has been covered by many artists, more notably KoKo Taylor. Howlin' Wolf apparently hated the song, according to Willie Dixon, calling it a "levee camp" song. KoKo Taylor's version was released in 1966 on Chess Records after recording "What Kind Of Man Is That?"
