Undav als deutsche Sturmhoffnung bei der EM?

Stuttgart spielt eine unglaublich gute Saison. In der letzten Saison stand man noch mit dem Rücken zur Wand, aber seit den gewonnenen Relegationsspielen gegen den HSV geht es steil bergauf. Trotz namenhafter Abgänge wie Mavropanos (für 20 Mio. zu West Ham), Endo (für 20 Mio. zu Liverpool) und Sosa (für 8 Mio. zu Ajax), schafft der VfB das zu kompensieren. Für knapp 23 Millionen Euro kauft der VfB ein und gerade Bayern-Leihe Nübel, Stiller (5,5 Mio. aus Hoffenheim), Mittelstädt (0,5 Mio. aus Berlin) und Königstransfer Serhau Guirassy (9 Mio. aus Rennes) schlagen sofort ein!

Und Guirassy drückt zum Saisonstart komplett aufs Gas - 14 Tore in den ersten acht Bundesligaspielen (mittlerweile steht er bei 17 Treffern). Der VfB Stuttgart steht auf Platz 2 mit sieben Siegen, punktgleich mit Tabellenführer Leverkusen. Doch der achte Spieltag brachte nicht nur Freude über den sechsten Sieg in Folge, sondern eben dieser Serhau Guirassy muss den Platz nach 30 Minuten verletzungsbedingt verlassen.

Doch die neue VfB-Hoffnung war und ist Deniz Undav, die Leihgabe aus England (bis Saisonende von Brighton Hove Albion) war bereits durch zwei Jokertore gegen den 1. FC Köln in Erscheinung getreten und traf auch am achten Spieltag gegen Union als er für Guirassy in die Partie kam. Der VfB verlor zwar die beiden Spiele ohne ihren 14-Tore Stürmer, aber Undav überzeuge und spielte sich in die Startelf. Beim Comeback von Guirassy am 11. Spieltag stand Undav wieder auf dem Platz, traf und empfielt sich für fünf weitere Startelfeinsätze bis zur Winterpause.

Als Anfang Dezember dann Julian Nagelsmann über Deniz Undav spricht, stürzen sich die Medien auf den 27-Jährigen. Nagelsmann soll ihn angerufen haben (was Undav gegenüber SkySport auch bestätigte) und macht ihm berechtigte Hoffnungen auf eine Berufung für die Länderspiele im März. Nun steht Undav bei zehn Toren in 15 Pflichtspielen und ist für viele deutsche die neue Sturmhoffnung für die Heimeuropameisterschaft. Aber kann das funktionieren?

Deniz Undav ist ein Mittelstürmer, wie Deutschland ihn gut gebrauchen kann. Bedeutet in Zahlen - maximal Geschwindigkeit von 31,67 km/h, 4,38 Schusserzeugende Aktionen per 90, 1,73 erfolgreiche Offensivzweikämpfe per 90 und 13 Scorer in 15 Pflichtspielen (bei durchschnittlich 62 Minuten pro Spiel).

Diese Zahlen beeindrucken, was aber direkt auffällt wenn man sich die Spiele des VfB Stuttgart anschaut, ist die perfekte Harmonie mit Serhau Guirassy. In den letzten vier Bundesligaspielen standen beide gemeinsam in der Startelf und erzielten vier der sechs Tore. Undav übernimmt hier eher die Rolle der hängenden Spitze. Er lauert oft auf zweite Bälle und startet später in die Box als Guirassy. Auch sein perfektes Timing bei Läufen in die Tiefe macht es unglaublich schwer ihn zu verteidigen. Auffällig ist, dass er all seine Tore innerhalb des Strafraums erzielt hat und dabei drei per Kopf!

Auch die Laufwege und das Verständnis mit Guirassy machen Undav so stark. Ein Blick auf die Heatmap der beiden verdeutlicht das nochmals extrem. Undav orientiert sich an Guirassy und besetzt die freien Räume um den Angreifer. So können beide Stürmer trotz hoher Boxpräsenz immer wieder zu Abschlüssen kommen. In Zahlen bedeutet das Undav mit 4,61 Schüsse und Guirassy 3,42 Schüsse per 90!

Also, was braucht Undav um Nationalstürmer zu werden? Und was braucht Nagelsmann um ihn perfekt zu integrieren? Nagelsmann müsste für Undav mit Doppelspitze spielen und ihm einen Sturmpartner zur Seite stellen. Hier könnte in Kai Havertz der Schlüssel liegen. Havertz könnte eine ähnliche Rolle wie Guirassy beim VfB Stuttgart einnehmen. Andererseits wäre da Niklas Füllkrug der diese Rolle ausfüllen könnte und bereits zu seiner Zeit beim SV Werder Bremen eine ähnliche Aufgabe, gemeinsam mit Marvin Ducksch, hatte.

Im, von Nagelsmann gegen die Türkei und USA gespielten, 4-2-2-2 könnte die deutsche Nationalelf gerade offensiv Spielideen der Schwaben aufgreifen. So könnten mit Musiala, Sane, Wirtz oder Hofmann gleich vier Spieler potenziell die beiden Positionen hinter der Doppelspitze einnehmen und diese mit Bällen füttern. Ein spät startender Undav in der Box könnte hier für unglaublich viel Torgefahr sorgen.

Wie die Rolle von Undav in der Nationalmannschaft aussehen könnte bleibt abzuwarten, aber Nagelmann wird gut beraten sein, Undav in einer ähnlichen Rolle, wie er sie beim VfB Stuttgart innehat, einzusetzen. Und wer weiß, vielleicht taucht im März nicht nur Undav vom VfB in der Kaderliste auf!

Konstantinos Mavropanos x f!reader

Author's note: West Ham fans may know him but for those of you who don't, Dinos is a greek player who is in the national team but is also a new addition to the West Ham squad. He is my favourite player from my country (besides Tsimikas), so after my country's win against Kazakhstan, I thought it was about time he got some appreciation as well.

Summary: You work as an assistant coach for Mikel Arteta in Arsenal, whilst your boyfriend is in the main XI of West Ham tonight in the Emirates. Your relationship has been kept a secret, until there are slight hints of romance when Dinos erupts the Arsenal with his presence.

"I would really hate to blab about you to the boss but we've caught you staring way too many times." Declan nudged me and my attention turned to the two Englishmen and the Norwegian captain.

Bukayo and Martin make swooing sounds as I try to hide my blushed expression and regain my focus to the game strategy once again. I try to refrain from rising my head and look to my left where West Ham's team was preparing for tonight's game.

"You three are idiots. Better score many goals tonight, otherwise I don't think your girlfriends will be very happy to deal with sour boys."

"Won't you be sour as well? Won't your boyfriend have to deal with a disappointed assistant when all he will want is a good nights sleep?" Bukayo bitterly replies and he isn't wrong on this one.

"That's between me and him Mr. Saka. Now, listen up."

We all gathered around Mikel and revised the strategy for tonight's game. The boys were engrossed to the words coming out the boss's mouth, knowing they are in no position to lose another game after 2 consecutive losses and a draw.

I could feel his eyes piercing my body, shivers taking over as I slightly turn my head next to the visit team's bench and lock eyes with my boyfriend who despite all his teammates, is smiling at me shyly.

Nobody knows that me and Dinos are dating. Well, the only two players that do know is Kostas from Liverpool and Baldock from Sheffield United, but they are also his teammates on the Greek National Team and they've seen me attending some of the games.

We have been keeping it low because what we have is simply for the both of us. I love Dinos very much and despite being a member of another team, he knows I will always support him. Tonight I will root for him silently but extremely loudly mentally.

"Any adds on the plan Y/n?" The coach asks me and I lose my train of thought as I remove my eyes away from Dinos and look to all the players that are talking to each other before the final whistle.

"None for now. Half time will be the time for changes. Hopefully none will be necessary." I say confidently looking at Mikel and he smiles nervously, knowing that in the end, despite the performance of the team, he will be the one to be critiqued.

And the whistle has been blown. Kick off time.

The team was in a bit of a clutch, trying to get ahold of the ball as much as they can. Martin was running up and down the pitch, wanting to block the players so he could pass to Bukayo or Jesus, although Kudus and Prowse were making things quite difficult.

In an unexpected moment, the stadium erupts to moans and a smaller percentage to cheers as Soucek gets the balls through the net and slips away from David's grasp. Mikel kneels and I lower my head in disappointment but I quickly start shouting at the boys to slightly change the rotation in order to block the three West Ham midfielders and lower the possession stats.

"The 2 centerbacks are awfully good. Dear lord." Mikel whispers at me as we keep our eyes glued on the pitch.

"They are. Lucky day." I so wish he hadn't mentioned the centerback position and had the midfielders instead. I always take a pleasure in talking about Dinos but certainly not with my boss and whilst the two teams are playing against each other.

"Didn't one of them used to play for us? Number 15?" I swear to god he is doing it on purpose.

"Yes. He was one of Arsene's last signings as a coach." I am at the brink of telling him how insanely good of a player he is but I am so limited at the moment. I will gloat when I no longer work for Arsenal, which won't be very soon.

Half time whistle. Players back in the dressing rooms.

I walk behind all the players and thank god they are all occupied because I feel a bump on my shoulder and as I turn around I am faced with my boyfriend who tries to tease me with a wink and I go full blown red in seconds. Matching the shirt I am wearing.

"What they are doing, is blocking Declan at all costs. That leaves Martin all cleared up, although they decide to go for Ben and William. What if they change positions with Gabriel and Nelson? That may confuse them." I suggest to Mikel as we are suggesting the substitutions.

"They have really strong defenders. The key is to weaken them, although cracking them won't be quite easy." Martin explains and I nod my head in agreement.

"What we need to do, is not give them any corners to allow possible goals from there." I speak up and all the players agree with my statement.

"As much as possible, if they corner you up, slide the ball outside, as much as possible away from the corner flag."

We discuss a few final substitutions and let the players know when the changes will be taking place and all the team gathers under the tunnel waiting for the Half time signal to be given. The West Ham players follow along a few moments later and Declan secretively comes to stand next to me.

"I swear you will start to sneeze in a few seconds."

"Why?"

"Mr 15 hasn't taken his eyes off of you ever since they entered the tunnel."

I freeze at Declan's words. What does he imply?

"And? Maybe he's not looking at me."

"I look at Lauren the same way he is eyeing you up. And we have been dating for almost 5 years now."

"You are in very much head over heels, Rice. I love that for you but it's game time. I would love to chat about your love life after we've won."

"It's your love life we need to talk about, not mine miss. You're hiding something." Declan turns his head to look back to Dinos whose eyes are as he explained "undressing me"

To my advantage, the referee blows the whistle for the second half to start before Declan could go any further with his speculations. Damn him. I love Dinos but sometimes he cant keep it in him. I don't blame him though, I have been doing the same.

Thankfully, ball possession has been shared ever since the second half started and there is a balance at the game. The team has created some very good chances and I can feel the goal being very close. Once again Declan is always blocked by the West Ham defenders and especially Dinos, which isn't helpful for my case.

The ball slips under Trossard's feet and the referee gives the first corner of the half to West Ham. Exactly what we didn't need at the moment. I gesture to the boys not to panic and focus on any possible tall players, which means block my own boyfriend.

Bowen is taking the corner and in matters of seconds, the ball barely touches the grasp of David's fingers and is being send to the back of the net by a defender.

It was Dinos who scored his first goal for West Ham, against his former team. All his teammates run towards him and hug him at a suffocating level. I have an equally suffocating urge to run up to him but instead he knee slides towards the fans who are behind me and winks at me whilst getting up, before finally he whispers quickly in my ear:

"For you baby"

I put my face inside the palm of my hand, trying to cover the blushed expression and the silly smile that is plastered all over my lips. If the camera caught me even slightly looking at a West Ham player, I would be finger pointed all over North London.

What Dinos did was very risky but at the same time so incredibly sweet. I am very proud of him and of the goal that he scored, even if that meant that Arsenal will lose the game due to his final nail in the coffin.

"You're lucky I have you as a daughter, otherwise this wouldn't end up happily." Mikel tells me with his eyebrows raised at me, wanting an answer from me in regards to what just occurred.

"I have seen him picking you up from practice. I may not have said anything, although it doesn't mean I don't have eyes, my dear."

"Please don't tell the board or the boys. I will tell him to be careful next time."

"Just warn him that once we visit London Stadium, we won't play nice, like we are now."

I laugh and nod in agreement as the referee blows the final whistle.

Me and Mikel walk onto the pitch to gather the players and applause to the crowd who despite the loss are still trying to cheer up the team.

"Never make me doubt my gut feeling again." Declan wraps his arm around me and Martin with Bukayo follow along. whilst they are clapping the fans as well.

"At least we know you are gonna have fun tonight." Martin nudges me softly in the ribs.

"Tell him to take it easy because we have practice early morning tomorrow." Bukayo adds and I flip off the three of them with a smile on my face, knowing I have been caught red handed.
