What is the dumbest/worst injury Tinwe and her siblings have gotten in the 4th age?
OH OK GET READY BESTIE, I'm even giving you whether it was a dumb or serious injury. It's a long one, so everything is under the cut lol
Maedhros – dumb injury – I can see him go unscathed through the whole embodiment business. BUT THEN he gets curious of Bilbo and frodo and Samwise because what the fuck is a hobbit? He goes to their smial (yes they have a hobbit size smial in Aman. They like feeling at home ok?) And maedhros, our poor tall boy, smacks his head inside on a cross beam so hard he gets a cut on his forehead.
Maglor – dumb injury – he's restringing a harp for the fist time again, but pulls the strings too tight. One snaps and hits his eye and cheek. Claims to be blind, but all he's got is a watery eye and a red mark for a few hours. Bestest boy who tries not to accidentally kills himself after surviving into the 2nd age.
Celegorm – dumb&serious injury – After being reembodied he kept away from the forests for a while, but then he goes out to try hunting for the first time again. Curufin accompanies him (bc they refused to be returned without the other). But celegorm's reflexes are still a bit wonky, and so he accidentally shoots curufin instead of some rabbit. Curufin throws a stone at him and hits him in the head, leading to a small wound but big bruise. It's not as bad as it looks.
Caranthir – dumb injury – after embodiment he's got some issues with dexterity which is not ideal for embroidery, right? He stabs himself with needles so often his fingertips are constantly adorned with little pinpricks. One time he let's a needle fall from these very dexterity troubles and accidentally steps on it. tinwe has to get it out of his foot.
Ranyatinwë – serious injury – she's got these random hand tremors bc she never went through Mandos so those didn't go away, right? Either she tries to ignore them (as she's wont to) and does some cooking and slices off the first knuckle of her finger (it does get re-attached and heals again); OR she is painting something and falls a few feet off a platform she's using to get the upper parts of her painting done. Bruises aplenty for that one.
Curufin – serious injury – the aforementioned arrow shot by Celegorm. He's mad af at Celegorm bc never in his entire fucking life as Celegorm ever missed a shot, but now he misfires? Bullshit. He makes Celegorm take him to a healer and explain the situation without making it sound like some kind of kinslaying lol. It only hit his shoulder or upper arm, but damn that bitch hurt.
Amrod – dumb&serious injury – falls down a tree. That's it. I hc him as the more skittish twin after embodiment, so he hid in random trees. But since the bending of the world, aman got a whole slew of new animals, including bird species. One of them hides in the same tree and the new noise so close to his head startled Amrod, and he just. Flops down to the ground. Breaks an ankle, but it's an open break, so ouchie
Amras – dumb injury – burns himself with tea. He's also got dexterity issues after getting out of Mandos, and he kinda forgot how heavy a full mug is. Paired with being distracted by something (totally not tinwe's baby) the mug just falls straight into his lap and gives him some light burns bc my god that tea was fucking hot.
Bonus: fëanor – super fucking stupid injury – falls down the stairs bc he's babysitting and got upstairs for a moment. Baby cries, feanor runs but wears only socks, and slips down hald the staircase. Bumps and bruises Nerdanel has to put ointment on.

I am so ~fascinated~ with Finwean family dynamics so below is just some of my own thoughts on inter-family politics and particularly on how Feanor’s behavior affected the rest of the family’s relationships with each other, especially for Nerdanel.
These thoughts mostly developed in the context of a pair of fics I wrote (posted here and here) about the post-Oath fallout experienced by the Noldor who remain in Aman, so they are the focus, and these thoughts are all in terms of what I tried to show in those fics.
Although Nerdanel mostly enjoyed Feanor’s family, her relationships with them were difficult, partly because Nerdanel is a brusque and often insensitive person, but mainly because Feanor’s relationships with them were difficult, and she necessarily took his side on a lot of things, and was seen, of course, as being affiliated with him.
Tolkien notes that Anaire (Fingolfin’s wife) and Earwen (Finarfin’s wife) were close friends, and in fact this friendship was part of why Anaire chose to stay behind. Notably, Nerdanel is not a part of this. I think she struggled with these relationships in particular, because of how Feanor treated his half-brothers.
Anaire had one of the better relationships with Nerdanel, because Anaire is a very practical, logical person and recognized that Nerdanel was not Feanor, and that she was, on some level obliged to take his side in family fights because that’s what you do for your partner. However, I don’t know that she necessarily feels Nerdanel is a friend, and Anaire was extremely critical of the way Feanor treated Fingolfin, and of Fingolfin’s ongoing loyalty and affection for Feanor, which pressured whatever positive relationship she had with Nerdanel.
Earwen doesn’t get on much with Nerdanel in part just due to their personalities. Nerdanel, as noted earlier, is blunt and generally practical, while Earwen is a lot more of a dreamy, whimsical, philosophical type. She also talks a lot. So even though Finarfin doesn’t get it as bad from Feanor as Fingolfin (because Finarfin is less a threat in Feanor’s view), Earwen actually has less of a relationship with Nerdanel than Anaire, and when the Kinslaying at Alqualonde happens, she is entirely unable to divorce Nerdanel from the actions of her family, and their relationship craters and never recovers. In a way, Nerdanel ends up taking the blame Earwen might have cast on Finarfin.
Swapping tracks, Indis reeeeally wanted this whole family thing to work. She knew how unusual it was for Finwe to marry her after Miriel’s death and she really wanted it to work with Feanor. She may have tried too hard in the beginning to step into a maternal role with him, which put Feanor off even more. She wanted to consider him one of her own kids, but that was very definitely not what Feanor wanted, and after centuries of trying to get along with him, she sort of had to accept that civility was the best thing she could get from him. She also grew increasingly upset with the way he treated his half-siblings, especially his brothers, and even more so when she saw him imparting his grudges on his sons, so that his children could carry them on. The Oath was the breaking point of her giving up and deciding he’s actually just a selfish, arrogant bastard who is concerned only with how things affect him.
Now, Indis and Nerdanel are another case of personalities don’t mesh (and this was very intentional in my portrayal of Indis’ personality, and was the case for Indis and Feanor as well). But that aside, Indis nonetheless tried to include Nerdanel in the family, in part thinking she could soften Feanor by treating his wife well. However, as with Anaire and Earwen, Nerdanel’s siding with Feanor strained their ties, and Nerdanel was not excellent at hiding her own general impatience with Indis, and after they learned of the Kinslaying, things were messy enough that Nerdanel and Indis both silently decided there was just nothing left there to save.
Findis takes the most after her mother, but unlike Indis, she is not afraid to speak up when she doesn’t like somebody, and she’s thought Feanor was a vain, arrogant blow-hard since she was a teenager. She was bitter about the way he treated Indis, as well as his behavior towards her and her siblings, and she never understood what Nerdanel saw in him. She and Nerdanel also butted heads very openly on quite a lot of things, to the point that they would often take a contrary opinion to each other purely for antagonism’s sake. Findis was therefore very ready to kick Neradnel to the curb after the Kinslaying.
Lalwende is probably the one who got along best with Nerdanel, and not unrelatedly, went with Feanor and stuck it out to Middle-earth. She was an adventurous type, which complemented Nerdanel’s personality, and escaped much of Feanor’s worse tendencies by virtue of how little a threat she presented to him for Finwe’s favor and throne, so she had fewer reasons to dislike Nerdanel by association. She was, I imagine, the one with the closest relationship with Nerdanel.

fingolfin + passive aggression
all his speaking parts’ is a cop out, so
Aman has cryptids. Specific ones for each kindred, based on actual Cuivienen night terrors. Anyway the Noldor have like a Babadook, and though neither of them remember the inciting incident Fingolfin and Lalwen hide a cardboard cutout of one in places when they get in fights. It isn’t really ‘passive’ or ‘aggressive’, and they never really get into ‘fights’, but Lalwen brings out most of the unproblematic extraness in Fingolfin so. It’s indicative. It’s like the Olympics after a while, Finwe stops them when it ends up on a turret, because ‘that thing will give someone war flashbacks.’ (it was him. he wasn’t looking at it squarely when he found it.)
He dudgeon-chews, at banquets, when people have bad opinions. Like a goat. It’s subconscious in that it’s his go-to stress response, and totally on purpose in that Feanor has a mastication skeeve. Fingolfin’s gotten him to up and leave seven events, twice while the person sitting next to him was mid-sentence.
He was REALLY INELEGANT about it when he was little, when a kid who’d wronged him got wronged themselves, or like, fell, or got a papercut or whatever, he’d look at them. Vindication in his face and satisfaction lifting his ears. Indis was really worried about it. Finwe had flashbacks of Feanor and Findis telling living, breathing, actual adults to fuck off and just took it as a win. Or like. Acceptable losses. (I swear this house knew no FUCKING PEACE till Finarfin. Lalwen was alkaline, but blithely so; effervescent. A handful. Finarfin, you could actually tell to sit and he would.)
He proposed to Anaire three Valian years later than he wanted to, because every time either of their parents asked when he was going to, he had to delay it, on principle, because yes he was going to anyway but that’s not how it looks,
When his kids were little they slammed the screen door. Once, they locked themselves out in the yard when it was raining. He didn’t notice for ten minutes. He was drinking coffee near an open window.
I feel like now’s a good time to mention that a lot of his stunts are obvious only to him, they bring no outward vindication or satisfaction, some people go their whole lives thinking he’s a polite guy.
When Fingon comes out, and admits that yes, he is into one of the hellspawn, he invites Maedhros over for dinner. Feanor invites Fingon back. It escalates until they co-throw a family reunion. They abscond ten minutes in and get winedrunk in their old treehouse. They’re found later at the base of the tree–among wood, because old lumber and adult weight do not mix–having saved their bottle. Melkor is released after that and it’s the last nice thing they ever do together.
Anaire is more obviously bitter but The Same. They met in logic college.
I know Everybody Loves Raymond is a stupidly specific thing to reference but “don’t let a suitcase filled with cheese be your big fork and spoon” is a thing that happened in their marriage at least once. more than once.
During the Unrest he gets up on a soapbox about Indwion political legitimacy, yes, but also about Indis. Which he had never really bothered to do, that being more Findis’ wheelhouse. Actually at one point he’d validated Feanor’s worldview a little. Indis notices, both times.
As far as Finwion divorces: Feanor and Nerdanel’s is as explosive as you’d think, Findis and her wife haven’t answered the phone in eight years, Lalwen is ace and really superior about it in context, and Fingolfin and Anaire’s is mostly. “…..n ice traveling robes.” “Do you need any.” “Can’t think why.” “rEally. CoOl. How Nice For You.”
All of his conversations with regent-Maglor count.
He’s nice about Feanor after he dies, almost zealously, and he has no idea if it’s genuine or sarcastic.
When he’s reembodied he tries to be cool about things, and train himself off passive aggression as, like, a habit, and Finarfin fucking. owns his ass. burns he’s saved for years just zing on home.

Successful escape in the future of the harem au
Gil-Galad knocked on the door.
“Yes?” said the woman who answered it.
“Is this the Lady Nerdanel’s house?”
“Who are you to ask?”
“I’m her grandson, Gil-Galad. The toddler is my brother Finnelach, and that’s my cousin Idril, and Fingon my - parent.”
“Fingon isn’t my son.”
Fingon spoke up, “No, but Maedhros is. You knew quite well what your husband did with my father. Is it really so surprising that I’ve borne two of Maedhros’s children?”
“Perhaps not. What’s the purpose of this family outing? I didn’t think Feanor approved of any of his children visiting me.”
“He doesn’t really. Can we come inside to discuss this?”
“Sure.”
“The purpose is that Gil-Galad doesn’t want to have sex with Feanor, and once he’s of age he’ll have to. I’ve always lived in the palace and would have no idea how to keep house on my own, but I’m not going to force him. I remembered that you had opposed Feanor and Maedhros having sex even though Maedhros wanted it, and hoped you’d be a safe place for your grandchildren.”
“And did you have any plan for if I wasn’t willing to raise three more children after all of mine are grown?”
“Just two, Idril can go to her grandparents in Alqualonde. And if not,” Fingon spoke quickly, “could you watch them for two weeks or so, then send them all to the coast? Olwe might not raise them personally but he wouldn’t send them back, not once he hears how Feanor is treating his grandson.”
Nerdanel looked at the three children. A fourteen year old boy, a ten year old girl, and a one year old boy would not do well on their own. “They can stay, though if Olwe asks for his great-granddaughter I won’t stop him. At least you’ll be around to help.”
“About that...”
“Mom!” Gil-Galad said. “What are you saying?”
“You three are all children. Feanor might ignore your absence until you’re of age, by which point you’ll be well known in town and obvious if you went missing. But every day I’m gone is day Feanor can't use me - a full day in which I’m defying him. He won’t stand for that; it’s safer for everyone if I go back." Fingon gave Gil-Galad a hug. “And I love my brothers and father, and your father, and will miss them if I stay.”
“What about me?”
“I love you too, and Finnelach. I hope that I’ll see you some day again. Feanor will be angry, and I’d rather Turgon not take the blame for something he had no part in. Or Maedhros I suppose, though that wouldn’t be as bad of course.”
~~
Nerdanel: “I’ll get started on setting up beds for tonight. Idril and I can sleep in one room, Gil-Galad and Fingon in the other. I don’t have a bassinet, but I can put some blankets in a basket and that might work for Finnelach.”
“No, those sleeping arrangements will not work!”
“You’re not in the palace anymore; I only have the two bedrooms.”
“You can’t have adults sleep in the same room as children! Idril and Gil-Galad can take one room, with Finnelach in a basket.”
“You expect to share my bed then?”
Fingon paused, as he had been wondering if Nerdanel would want to be thanked for her hospitality, but she didn’t seem pleased by the prospect. “I can sleep in the stable, or on a couch. It only has to be for one night anyway, then I’ll ride back.”
“I have never heard of adults and children being forbidden to share rooms. It is however highly inappropriate for a boy and a girl to share a room, once either of them has reached puberty.”
“But adults might wake up in the middle of the night filled with desire, and there’s a nice warm body in their bed. That would harm children.”
“I have more self control than to rape someone just because of a wet dream!”
“That would make you unique in my experience! If there’s no one in the room you might just jerk off, but if there’s someone in easy reach, they’re used.” And if there wasn’t someone in reach they might be used anyway. Fingon had been woken more times than he cared to count by one of the Princes walking into his room, pulling the sheets down, and starting without even a 'hello.’ He himself had woken up whoever was in his bed with a kiss or caress for another round scant hours after the first. But if Nerdanel thought sex without discussion was always beneath her, she wouldn’t take well the suggestion that she would disturb Gil-Galad if she came in and used Fingon while the two of them were in one room.
“Even if they’re children?!” Nerdanel asked, appalled.
“No, because the children are in separate rooms where they don’t have to watch their parents have sex. And Feanor is always the first one to get pleasure from our bodies; no one would disobey him on that. You don’t care what Feanor thinks, and are suggesting children sleep in the same rooms as adults.”
“You brought them here because you trusted me to keep them safe.”
“Because I hoped you wouldn’t use them - you never cared when Feanor fucked my father, just when he started on your own children. And Idril’s not your blood.”
“I am not going to harm her, or Gil-Galad or Finnelach, but that doesn’t mean I have to give up on standards of decency, and I simply don’t have three bedrooms.”
Gil-Galad spoke up, “It about being naked isn’t it?”
“What?”
“Lady Nerdanel doesn’t think Idril and I should see each other changing into our night clothes, even though neither of us wants to touch. Adults aren’t supposed to see people of the opposite sex naked unless you’re planning to have sex with them, even if they’re related. Isn’t that right?”
“I thought it was obvious,” Nerdanel said.
“Well I’d never heard of it,” Fingon replied. “How did you know that?”
“I like hearing Grandpa’s stories about growing up, even if he sometimes gets sad telling them. And I asked him if Findis and Lalwen look much like Aunt Aredhel, and he said he couldn’t be sure because he hadn’t seen them in as much detail."
“But not at all? Even changing clothes, even children who need help dressing? How does that work?”
“Children so young they can’t bathe on their own are an exception. And it works well enough, men help their sons with inconvenient buttons and women help their daughters with the same.”
“Is men getting pregnant really so rare that works?”
“It is. I have heard of less than a dozen cases outside of Feanor’s... private life.”
“Huh. If the problem is nudity, would it be solved by a screen between Idril and Gil-Galad’s beds and dressers?”
“It could be, but I don’t have such a screen on hand for tonight.”
“We could hang up a curtain,” Gil-Galad suggested.
“That would be rather easily pushed aside; the point is to deter peeping even if someone thinks their child would never do that.”
“We could cover it in bells or beads, so you’d hear it,” Fingon suggested. “My necklace might work?” He pulled a necklace made of hanging strands of glittering crystals from under his shirt.
“That should work,” Nerdanel said, “But why are you wearing that for a secret escape?”
Fingon shrugged. “I normally wear jewelry, and leaving it in the middle of the library would look weird. But it clatters very annoyingly when I try to run, so I tucked it against my chest.”
#feanor's harem au#to be clear gil-galad hasn't seen aredhel naked on purpose#they don't put on shows in front of the kids but it is common for one of the Princes to have fun ruining someone's clothing#and that person to just walk naked through the living room on the way to their bedroom for a new outfit#Look gil galad has so many canon names I can borrow one for his little brother#Maedhros is in meetings for the day#Fingon suggested to maedhros that Fingon and Gil-Galad could have a one-on-one talk#Gil-Galad has been nervous about this for some time and has asked bothe his parents if there's anyway to stop it#Fingon tells Maedhros that reassurances from another Bastard would work better than from a Prince like Maedhros#so Maedhros told his brothers that they weren't allowed to bother (aka fuck) Fingon all day#he doesn't have like general authority over who gets to fuck Fingon or anything they're not married#but Maedhros does have nearly complete authority over how to parent Gil-Galad#Feanor could overrule him but as long as Maedhros doesn't teach Gil to be disobedient he won't#Finrod also escapes with this#Fingon told him to bring Idril to the library and that Finrod might want to visit their grandpa#because Finrod has somewhere to go - with approval from two kings even - if he gets out#Once Fingon was in the library with the kids they went out for walk in the park - a completely permitted activity#then fingon stole two horses from the stable and they left as sneakily as he could so they could get far before the alarm was raised#and did his best to make it look like they were heading straight to Alqualonde#unlike attempting to rescue Maeglin#and because if Gil-Galad objects that strongly maybe the next kid will too? Finellach can always come back if they want#Fingon has always considered his life unfair but compared it to the Princes rather than a life outside the palace#not archived yet

Yes!! Fëanor is essentially telling Fingolfin that what HE did is his (Fingolfin’s) fault for not teaching his son better.
I don’t know if Finno is a virgin but it’s possible he is. He’s done a few things with people but hasn’t necessarily had the time or interest yet in full on sexual relationships.
But regardless what happens is incredibly shocking. I think Fëanor is the kind of person (elf) to be annoyed and angry and punish Finno further when Finno cries and begs for him not to do this. Which is obviously a completely understandable and predictable reaction. But yeah he’s not coherent because of the alcohol and his emotional state.
Finno lies very still except for his shaking as Fëanor takes off his clothes. He does start to struggle at some point but he’s very disoriented and dizzy and doesn’t manage to do much other than making Fëanor more annoyed.
And I definitely agree regarding Fëanor’s reaction to Finno’s response.
And being really annoyed that he has to make sure Finno gets home because it’s probably not great if Nerdanel or someone else discovers Finno in his chambers in such a bad state. Though that is itself interesting to think about.
Finno curls up in a ball in his room, not moving, for hours. This is very worrying to Nolofinwë because Finno is pretty much always moving.
Maybe Nolo later retraces Finno’s steps, just trying to figure out how best to proceed. And he’s told that Fëanor was with him that night. I don’t know if Nolofinwë would necessarily jump immediately to “Fëanor actually assaulted my son” but he probably is immediately suspicious, maybe thinks that Fëanor would leave Finno in a dangerous situation, either out of malice or because he didn’t care enough to try and intervene. I cannot imagine Fingolfin’s fury when he figures it out. I also wonder how the others would react.
Thank you so much for your incredible responses and ideas!
-@outofangband
What if Feanor has a wool blanket on his bed, that he pushes Fingon down against? The scratchy wool worsens Fingon's sensory overload, both making it more difficult to move and also just hurting him for fun. Wool isn't a great sensation for anyone during sex, but Feanor does it anyway because a) he doesn't have sensory issues and b) Fingon's body is between Feanor and the wool blanket, so Feanor is mostly just pressing against Fingon's skin.
And being really annoyed that he has to make sure Finno gets home because it’s probably not great if Nerdanel or someone else discovers Finno in his chambers in such a bad state.
Feanor glaring at Fingon. "Normal people run away after they're attacked, to prevent it from happening again. Are you too stupid to even understand that? Don't you realize I could fuck you all night, and this might be your only chance to get away?" But Fingon is far too overwhelmed to respond to threats, possibly even to understand them.
So Feanor has to yank Fingon to his feet and over to the tub. Then watch to make sure Fingon doesn't drown. (Fingon needs to be washed to remove evidence.) And most likely the towels Feanor has aren't sensory friendly, so Fingon can only stand there as Feanor wipes him dry enough that his clothes will go on smoothly and look vaguely normal for the walk home. Then dress Fingon and physically point him at the right street to get home.
Feanor had wanted to leave an impression of being completely callous, willing to do it again, and unafraid of social consequences. He'd pictured Fingon running out the door as soon as Feanor stopped touching him, then Feanor throwing his clothes out the window afterwards with a cruel remark. Fingon would presumably wash himself to try and forget how Feanor's touch felt, disposing of evidence on his own. Instead Feanor was forced to manage Fingon's departure, which Feanor thinks makes him appear less intimidating.
It makes sense that Nolofinwe would assume that Feanor abandoned Fingon rather than assault him, this was a sharp escalation on Feanor's part. Feanor had complained about Fingon being "unfit for decent society" when he stimmed in public, it's believable that Fenaor would start too show Fingon an interesting part of the city and then walk off when he no longer wanted to see Fingon's stims.
I cannot imagine Fingolfin’s fury when he figures it out. I also wonder how the others would react.
I am thinking about this last thing a lot. Particularly "who would Feanor bother lying to" and " who would believe Fingon over Feanor". (Maedhros would hate that he finds it so plausible that Feanor assaulted Fingon, but he would definitely believe it. He knows that Feanor looks at Fingon and sees someone who "isn't even trying" and will never be able to fit in. He would also worry that it's his fault somehow, that if he'd kept stimming even when being punished for it, Feanor would believe that Fingon's behavior was involuntary.)
