« Anne Hidalgo veut célébrer Paris et ses monuments avec les Jeux olympiques, mais sans les bouquinistes. Nous faisons partie de Paris. Vouloir nous faire disparaître, c’est aussi absurde que de démonter la tour Eiffel ou Notre-Dame de Paris ! Nous sommes là depuis quatre cent cinquante ans » , rappelle Jérôme Callais.
“Anne Hidalgo wants to celebrate Paris and its monuments with the Olympic Games, but without the second-hand bookstores. We are part of Paris. Wanting to make us disappear is as absurd as dismantling the Eiffel Tower or Notre-Dame de Paris! We have been here for four hundred and fifty years,” recalls Jérôme Callais. 😡😠

hello
i'm kind of a new woso fan and i keep seeing people saying after this season they won't have anything to watch for some time, so i was wondering is that when like international break starts? like the olympics
hi there - thankfully when you consider the international schedule and the other leagues around the world, there is actually football available to watch year round! so here's a rough breakdown:
may - so the copa de la reina final is 18 may, and the uefa women's champions league final is 25 may. barça have a few (3) additional rescheduled league games after the final to be held in early june (although i have to imagine it'll be mostly barça b players handling those matches).
june/july - the euro 2025 qualifiers will continue from 31 may to 4 june and then again from 12 july to 16 july.
august - women's football at the 2024 paris olympics will be held from 25 july to 10 august.
preseason starts for barça in liga f later in august and they probably will do another mexico tour.
plus, if you want to watch the nwsl (league in usa) where some spanish players like esther, maitane, and ana tejada are, they play a summer schedule.
hope this helps!

Stage 7 of La Vuelta Feminina was almost tailor-made for Marianne Vos (Visma Lease-a-Bike), an uphill drag after a long day in the cross-winds. What can we say about the greatest of all time, she knows how to get there safely and has the snap to finish. And her team controlled the breakaways, including a decently strong one spurred by Olympic champ Anna Kiesenhofer (Roland).
Tumblr media
Vos was in good position heading into the final left-hander, right behind Elisa Longo Borghini (Lidl-Trek). The group was headed by Kristen Faulkner (EF Education-Cannondale), who had a nice lead-out from teammate Alison Jackson and then hammered the climb. Faulkner would take second on the stage, despite doing a lot of work on the front. Her climbing ability reminds us that she took second in the Tour de Suisse in 2022. It's nice to see such a new team like EF so active in this Vuelta.
Demi Vollering (SD Worx-Protime) started out of position (what is going on with that team?) but closed to fourth on the stage, right behind ELB, so the GC is unchanged going into the final mountaintop stage.

Far too many pics of the Palais Garnier! (Part Four!)
Tumblr media
In October of 2022, I had the extraordinary experience of getting to complete an 15+ year old dream of mine to visit the Palais Garnier. I took a metric fuckton of pictures and now I want to share them with you all, the PotO community!
Before I start dumping, a few things:
Please reblog this post. I usually don’t post a lot, therefore I don’t have a big following. I’d really appreciate people sharing these as much as they can. When I was a dumb kid in ye olden days of the internet, finding a post like this was the sort of thing I would have been hyped up on for weeks. Help spread that kind of joy!
Feel free to use these photos for any sorts of graphics, artistic reference or any other fandom related projects, as long as it’s not for profit. Please just credit me in some way. In fact, I'd love to be tagged to see whatever creations come from sharing all this!
This is Part 4, which will be pictures of the stage, things that were on display and a few extra pics from my Paris trip.
Part 1 (Exterior) | Part 2 (Staircase) | Part 3 (Foyer) | Part 4 (HERE)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Honestly, we were shocked we were even allowed to see the stage at all! The day we took our tour, it was closed for rehearsals. When we came back the next just to have more time to wander around, it was closed again. Right as we were about to leave though, rehearsals finished and we got to see it! This was the view from box 25.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There were lots of costumes from past productions on display throughout the halls. These were a few of my favorites.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The very impressive Opera Library!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There were a few halls that have been turned into museum spaces. This painting was part of the series of concept art that was eventually turned into the ceiling paintings in the grand foyer.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The outside balcony area, the grand foyer is right inside.
Extra Stuff!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The interior of La Madeleine. We couldn't get any good pictures of the exterior, as it is currently going through extensive renovations. This church was about a 15 minute walk from the Opera. In the Kay adaptation, I remember Erik making a sarcastic comment about marrying Christine here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A few shots from the Paris catacombs. If there was interest, I could also make a photo dump of this place. It was pretty extraordinary. It was very easy to imagine our favorite sewer goblin hanging out down here.
Tumblr media
Notre Dame! She is doing well after the devastating fire in 2019. Not open to the public yet, but it was very neat getting to see construction work happening while we were there! Under the scaffolding, we could see parts of the roof starting to take shape once more. Hopefully, it will be finished in time for the 2024 Olympics.
Tumblr media
While in Europe, I also stopped to see Phantom in London! This wasn't originally part of our plans but knowing I wouldn't likely be able to make it to New York to see it on Broadway before it closed, I made a priority to see it here!
This concludes my epic photo dump. If anyone has questions about anything, please ask! I will try to answer to the best of my ability. I absolutely can't wait to see how the community uses these!

okay this may be a loaded question but - where does one start with asterix. french or english material, doesn't matter
Not loaded at all! Astérix are all stand-alone, so there's no actual order you have to follow. However, I always recommend one starts with the first 24 albums, in any order that you'd please, then go on to the others up to 39.
The first 24 are written by Goscinny, and while I love all the Astérix eras for different reasons, when people talk about "Astérix" as a phenomenon, they mean Goscinny.
So, where to start?! Again, that's entirely up to you. To give you a guide, I'll sort them into categories that might interest you. (BOLD = FAVOURITE OF MINE!)
Group 1: Astérix and Obélix travel to all sorts of places that aren't Rome, with gags abound relating to every culture. Ever wanted a book that just shits on Germany for 40 pages? Look no further.
Asterix and the Golden Sickle (Paris)
Asterix and the Goths (Germany)
Asterix and the Banquet (France in general)
Asterix and Cleopatra (Egypt
Asterix in Britain (Britain)
Asterix and the Normans (Vikings)
Asterix at the Olympic Games (Greece)
Asterix in Spain (Spain)
Asterix in Switzerland (Switzerland)
Asterix in Corsica (Corsica)
Asterix and the Great Crossing (United States)
Asterix in Belgium (Belgium)
Group 2: The village (mostly just Astérix) deals with problems not solveable with magic potion alone. A great deal of satire about politics, economics, and interpersonal relationships.
Asterix and the Cauldron
Asterix and the Roman Agent
The Mansions of the Gods
Asterix and the Soothsayer
Asterix and Caesar's Gift
Obelix and Co. I cannot recommend this one enough.
Group 3: Astérix and Obélix just make the Romans' lives generally miserable on their own turf because, well, fuck you.
Asterix the Gaul
Asterix the Gladiator
Asterix and the Big Fight
Asterix the Legionary
Asterix and the Chieftain's Shield
Asterix and the Laurel Wreath
Group 4: Mais je veux lire en français ! Sous-estime pas mes compétences !
Okay, but don't say I don't spoil you. This took ages.
And if any links don't work or seem strange, all you need to do is Google "[name] PDF"! I have gotten many a virus while trying to read BD, but never from Astérix.
Have a wonderful time reading!

I'm sure you've mentioned this before in previous chapters, and I just don't remember, but Will doesn't speak Greek, right?? So does that mean that Apollo never taught him, or was his greek just not good enough to teach him? 😭😭 (ignoring the fact that Apollo had neither the mentality nor the will to teach his son a foreign language at the time)
Orrr, I feel like it's very possible that Apollo just isn't very fluent in Greek anymore bc he doesn't have anyone to talk to. Also, bc he hasn't actually been in Greece in years but like idk
This is probably such a stupid question, but I was just thinking about how Nico's first language is Italian and how overtime he might lose one of the little things that connect him to Bianca 😭😭
Then ofc, my mind drifted to Apollo and about him being fluent in Greek- IDK MAN ANYWAYS I THINK I RAMBLED ENOUGH HAVE A GOOD DAY‼️🫶🫶
ahshhd omg i love this question!! i don’t think ive ever talked about it so the short answer is that no, will doesn’t know greek, he only knows a high school level spanish in this au😭
i actually imagine that apollo didn’t grow up in greece, but in the us (specifically la/hollywood)
his mom probably tried to teach it to him (bc leto is the literal best) but with everything else that he had going on, he just didn’t have the time to ever learn it - his dad always focused more on all of his other hobbies/jobs and his schedule was overloaded enough as it was
but i do imagine that in those years when raising will, he tried to learn it again, just to get in touch with his roots. this is also probably when he first read like the iliad and the odyssey bc i doubt that he read it when he was younger (once again, schedule overload) and generally just tried to learn more abt his heritage and stuff, bc his dad never really brought it up to him
he had been to greece a few times, once for the olympics and a few times for concerts, but he was never really around much to sight see (which, if you noticed, is why i had him going to tourist attractions with nico in athens, when most of the time he tends to stay in the venue or the hotel or tour bus to avoid attention/paparazzi)
but back to the main question - apollo didn’t try to teach will greek bc he was just barely learning it himself, but im sure he’d definitely want will to learn it one day - especially when he would see leo fluent in spanish and nico fluent in italian and thinking how it would be nice to connect will to his culture as well
as for nico, i promise he definitely holds on to italian as a connection to bianca - the last remaining one, too. i think that sometimes he gets scared that he’s abt to forget it, or sometimes his mind will blank on a word and he’ll be terrified (which, tbf, happens in all languages, im bilingual (or trilingual if u count my ap french class which i don’t😭) and forgetting words happens no matter how much u practice) - and so he’ll just talk to himself in italian a bit
i ALSO imagine that whenever he’s talking solely to chiara, they speak in italian. he probably was very excited to hire her for the tour when finding out she was also from italy, and they’re able to sort of keep that going even when traveling the world!
i think by this point, apollo is nearly fluent in greek, but like, the textbook sort of knowing a language. like, he’s memorized all the vocab and grammar and stuff but he’d be a bit clueless in an actual conversation. him attempting to practice his greek in athens would def be hilarious and now i’m sort of upset i didn’t write that💀💀
thank u for the askshkdjs i absolutely love rambling abt apollo and nico likeee ahdksj. so many things i hadn’t even thought abt!!
oh ALSO. ONE OF MY FAV HC’S ABT NICO is that he absolutely loves studying languages. despite being dyslexic, he picks the speaking and understanding part of languages up super easily
so i’m just imagining nico and apollo on the tour bus learning new languages together and nico picking up greek as well so they’ll sometimes try to have conversations in that as well just to practice
they both definitely have duolingo downloaded and are constantly trying to beat each other on the leaderboards

omg the ask game is so cute 🥺 how aboutttttt 🙏 and 🌍 ?!!!
🙏 something i'd like to see happen that's relatively unlikely:
so as a brit i'm always believing in geraint thomas 🫡🇬🇧 and Pidders but G's 2018 Tour took me right back to Wiggo 2012 and the Olympic-induced all-over sports hype, british cycling being not a joke (tour de yorkshire i miss you so much, tour of britain, london classic, grand departs in the UK we used to be a proper country etc)
he was SO SO close at the giro, if he brings that form this year all it could take is one well placed haybale/spectator with a cardboard sign wishing their grandparents well...... for legal reasons this is a joke!! i don't wish crashes or accidents upon any rider!!
beyond that, i'd be interested to to see a winner of the men's tour who's not one of the big four -- Carapaz, Mas, Simon Yates, perhaps -- and a winner of the women's without the surname Vollering
also Valverde unretiring would be hilarious. movistar announce their new signing Valejandro Alverde and he rides the vuelta
🌍 only watching races from one country
🇮🇹🇮🇹🚴VIVAA ITALIAAA 🇮🇹🍕🍝🚴
as much as i love the brutality of the belgian classics and of course the endless storied traditions of france, nothing hits the spot quite like the romance of a great italian road race.
Lombardia and Tirreno (how could i not adore the trident 🔱), the majesty of Milano-Sanremo (aka La Classicissima) having the best half-hour of racing all season (after the 250ish km it takes to get to the Poggio), the brutal climbs and drama of the Giro balanced by the STUNNING landscapes, and of course the fast-approaching dusty white roads of Strade.
so if i had to choose only one nation's cycling races you'd find me relaxing with a glass of finest pinot grigio (or some gelato) while the peloton speed along some beautiful Almalfi coastline or up some hellish Apennine slope
early season ask game

I'd love to hear more of your ideas for the AU, if you wanna share? 👀
So my first question anon is how much do you know about Cirque du Soleil because that will inform how much you understand the idea of this au and its intensity as a theatre/circus au
For the people in the audience who know not the joys of a Cirque du Soleil show, consider a classic circus. It is entertainment, it is a close knit company of actors and performers and stage hands travelling for months on end, it is a family. They seek to thrill and awe an audience with their skills, their ability to draw gasps and fear and applause and joy in equal measure through the movements of their bodies in the center ring.
Now consider a theatre company, a typical playhouse. It is entertainment, it is a close knit company of actors and performers and stage hands in the confined space of a theatre for months on end, it is a family. They seek to tell a story to an audience, to draw them in and live the tale unfolding on stage through their way with spoken word and body language.
Now find yourself the masters of these crafts. The créme de la créme of clowns and tragedians. Of acrobats and ballet dancers. Of stage hands and technical engineers. Of choreographers and writers.
And you create a performance that is a showcase in the mastery of the theatrical arts. A travelling show like no other that will make the audience laugh and cry in equal measure. That takes the idea of a circus to the absolute limits, and then pushes past them.
You create Cirque du Soleil.
I have, tragically, never seen a Cirque du Soleil show in person. Someday I will! But many performances are available on their YouTube if folks want to go watch to get a proper idea of what I'm attempting to convey.
These shows have moving stages, practical effects, puppetry, pyrotechnics in some cases! Many of the performers are basically olympic level athletes as well as phenomenal actors. The mastery of mime work and traditional theatrical clowns is inspiring. The stories told through the performances are beautiful and moving in ways I cannot always properly describe.
I am forever grateful to my highschool Theatre Tech teacher for introducing me to Cirque du Soleil. Babby theatre nerd me's dream was to be a stage hand for Cirque du Soleil. I dont think I could handle the stress these days, but I can appreciate it from afar.
claps my hands together
So! Now that you understand the bedrock of this AU, lets talk about Treebark.
This is in its infancy and I am still noodling with how I want to do this, but right now...
So my thoughts are that Martyn is a tech hand originally but Grian convinces him to understudy for The Hand. Ren is one of the leads for The Death of the Red King part of the massive story performance.
The original person to play The Hand has to drop from the performance shortly before its set to start touring. So they have to very quickly make sure Martyn is up to snuff (and he is, he's done bit parts before and can act, and they wouldnt have hired him if he wasnt good at the necessary acrobatics).
And Martyn doesnt know Ren terribly well. Like they know each other. Like any circus, Cirque performers are a relatively close knit company. But Martyn doesnt KNOW know him. And this is their first time performing together.
And I havent thought PAST that beyond your typical theatre au tropes where their relationship develops off stage and it intensifies the on stage performance and then add in the circus au where during a performance one of them gets seriously hurt (Ren) and what comes from that. and the drama of everything behind the scenes which culminates in intensity on stage because character bleed is a THING even in acting and theatre.
Also something something audience participation is a thing in Cirque shows

Newsen shared an article about Seungmin's pitch in the MLB.
A clear strike… Stray Kids Seungmin, the first pitch winner, “It’s very meaningful”
Entered 2024.03.19. 3:37 PM
Original text of article

Tumblr media
[News Reporter Hwang Hye-jin] Seungmin, a member of the group Stray Kids, successfully threw out his first pitch since his debut.
Seungmin attracted attention when he was selected as the first pitcher for the special game between Team Korea and the LA Dodgers held as part of the 'MLB World Tour Seoul Series 2024 with Coupang Play' at Gocheok Sky Dome in Guro-gu, Seoul on March 18th at 7 PM.
Seung-min, who threw the first pitch for the game between Team Korea and the LA Dodgers ahead of the opening game of the Major League Baseball (MLB) regular season held in Korea for the first time, threw a clear strike and received applause from the crowd. The broadcaster expressed their admiration, saying, "It was an accurate strike. Of all the first pitches I've seen, it went into the center of the pitch the most. It was truly a perfect pitch. Joe Kelly must have been surprised."
Tumblr media
Seungmin said through his agency JYP Entertainment, "I came to Gocheok Dome as an artist performing in the fall of 2023, and it is very meaningful to be invited and throw the ball as the first pitcher on the mound in such a big game in the spring of 2024. It is the first pitch of Stray Kids' debut and the best of their lives." “I don’t think I’ll ever forget the second pitch,” he said, expressing his connection to Gocheok Dome and his extraordinary baseball fandom.
Meanwhile, Stray Kids, to which Seungmin belongs, will hold its 4th official fan meeting 'SKZ'S MAGIC SCHOOL' at KSPO DOME (Olympic Gymnastics Stadium), Olympic Park, Songpa-gu, Seoul for three days from the 29th to the 31st. On the 31st, an online paid live broadcast will be held simultaneously through the Beyond LIVE platform.

Schneider interview with The Bosshoss
2020 (first year of the Covid pandemic, but that is only briefly mentioned), Schneider is interviewed by Alec 'Boss' Völkel and Sascha 'Hoss' Vollmer for their radioshow (Alec is also a close personal friend of Alec, you may have seen him and/or his wife Johanna in pictures with the Schneiders).
youtube
A little translation from my side into english, because i couldn't find one yet, and because Schneider is just a big sweetheart (like basically all the Rammstein guys are) in it. The Bosshoss (BH) guys tend to interrupt him now and then, but Schneider (S) manages very well to ignore that and finish his own story (many years in the Rammstein democracy training under his belt 😊), so i'll translate their stuff only when they start a new topic (and I'll leave out the initial greeting and goodbye at the end, they are probably selfexplanatory).
--
BH: Was it easy to postpone the Stadiumtour?
S: I'm saying yes, but one saw the situation coming, and we secured dates in time for next year.
BH: You have been playing these really really big venues for a long time, stadiums, football stadiums, what is your favorite stadium?
S: This tour we have only been able to play for one summer, and that was just in Europe, I'm just going to say the best stadium in the world really is the Olympic stadium, that is a really great stadium..
BH: in Berlin?
S: ..possibly it fits us really well, but obviously it's also such a great location for us because we are Berliner and then it's a dream to achieve, finally to make it and play in Huxleys, or to make it to the O2, you know, and like that, step by step, and at some point you get to Die Waldbühne and then the Olympic stadium and.. if you get there at all.
BH: let's talk about you a little bit, you started learning music in an orchestra..
S: I could choose between clarinet, trombone and trumpet, and uh..one I felt was too big, the other too girly and trumpet, well, then I'll play trumpet.
BH: ..the little trumpet-boy Christoph..
S: Yes, so I had my job in the orchestra, und us trumpets, and trombones I think, we sat in directly in front of the percussionists, and I always had a lot of time to watch them during rehearsals and I thought that was cool, I was interested in Rockmusic as well..
BH: So you taught yourself to drum and then Rammstein happened? Or did you learn something properly in between?
S: No, it was like this, I really was inspired by it and at home tried to.. I collected sticks, leftovers from fireworks, Newyear's eve fireworks, really thin sticks. And then I became a self-taught-drummer, I build more and more stuff together in my room, from stools, buckets, musicstands, tried to craft myself a high-hat and played along with the music that I thought was hot.
BH: Are your 'greats' from this period, from that genre or..
S: Well yeah, I like, as you say, I like the straight drummers, the ones who are really in service of the band, the ones who see themselves as backing musicians, the ones who hold back and play what is important. The master is Phil Rudd, ACDC drummer, he influenced me a lot stylistically, he plays so minimalistic, when you analyse it, it is impressive.
BH: Are you nervous, when you play in LA some time, or elsewhere, then, I don't know, Lars Ulrich or Dave Grohl are backstage and look over your shoulder, are you excited?
S: Ofcourse, that's really really bad, for instance when you know .. is there (note: I can't make out the name he mentions) or Dave Grohl, all happened. And I'm not the best drummer..
BH: But it's not about that, maybe technically, but you play exactly the way you should..But Chad Smith thought it was cool? Or didn't he watch you yet?
S: Well, Chad Smith I actually know really well, he's a big Rammstein fan, he visited us often, and he was also with us in our rehearsal room..
BH: What, here at home? The drummer of Chili Peppers happens to be at Christoph Schneider's.
S: Yes, he was in Pankow (note: part of Berlin where Schneider is from, and i think Rammstein practice there too, if I'm not mistaken)
BH: Cool, and I'm always proud that we have a German band who is moving internationally, Goddamn that's a German band, I think that's really cool. Chad Smith eating soup in Pankow. Crazy that.
BH: Du you think it's important, you are all six from East-Berlin, that you are a East-Berlin band, that Rammstein has that background?
S: Ofcourse that's still always there in Rammstein, that rebellious, it was always about being against something, against the system and with Rammstein that is always a part of it, what can one be against, how can you provoke, not go with mainstream, that is a role we took on ourselves.
BH: Is there a band that really inspired you, or was crucial for where you are now?
S: Early on I was inspired by classical music, my parents are from a classical music background. The first rockalbum I heard was a Classic Rock album my parents got as a gift from the west, and then I got into the 70's Hardrock bands, starting with Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, but then something strange happened to me, I had listened to those Rock things for a while, and a lot of Jimi Hendrix and that 70's stuff. And then the 80's arrived with all those new bands, those Spandex bands, and those didn't turn me on, and then I took a turn and got more into the Classic Pop world for a few years, Depeche Mode, that was a different feeling at the time. At the start of the 90's a new 'bad' thing, starting with Ministry..
BH: Ministry, ofcourse..
S: .. and then Pantera, that was the only metalband... for me they were.. that was such an ultimate, banging, that was the coolest metalband ever, and that was a time just before we then started..
BH: Are there musicians who already died who you would have liked to have worked with?
S: That's a good question..
BH: Thank you..
S: ..I would love to do a little side-project..
BH: do something with Bosshoss
S: Yes, we could do something
BH: Right, we did a song of Rammstein once
S: and you did it very well
BH: Mein Land
S: Yes, and I can speak also for my entire band when I say that really impressed us, that wasn't just a remix, you did a coverversion of a song, you translated it and made a real song out of it.
BH: Yes, it was Mein Land, we called it 'My country'
S: That was better than ours..
BH: No, no, no... Well dear friends, listeners of the Rodeo Radio Rock show of Bosshoss here, Christoph Doom Schneider of Rammstein just said Bosshoss is better than Rammstein.
BH: Nightliner or private jet?
S: Well nowadays I'm going to say private jet
BH: Coolest thing is a Sprinter by the way
S: Oh, I know those days too..
BH: Hotel or rather go home
S: Well actually I love a hotel..
BH: Really?
S:.. after a concert I love to go to the hotel, have a little peace and quiet and go to sleep, well not right after a concert obviously, first get down and chill out, but not go home immediately.
BH: David Lynch or Tarantino?
S: David Lynch at the time made Lost Highway and accidently discovered our music and used it in his movie. We were megalomaniacs at the time..
BH: Neubauten or Kraftwerk?
S: I'm going to say Kraftwerk is the band that is closer to my heart, I really love them, I think it's one of the greatest bands ever in Germany, if not the greatest, because they show well everything we are, is so German, and that at a time when there wasn't anything like it. Maybe with Kraftwerk it's the music and with Neubauten the lyrics and their aggression...their consistency in breaking with everything. They also did something nobody did before, so really they are in the same league.
