Ok so Jacob Portman and Olive Abrolhos Elephanta have ADHD and you can pry this headcanon out of my cold dead ADHD hands so here we go~
Jacob
Younger Jacob had like a big hyper fixation on the peculiars and exploring and it was like a big Special Interest, and when he got older and got made fun of and sort of lost his interest he felt really Empty for a very long time
Somewhat subtle stimmer
He chew stims a lot, he’s definitely broken like a dozen pens or more by chewing on the ends really hard. He also probably chews on shirt sleeves and the inside of his cheek, once he bought himself a chew stim toy but his mom thought it was gross and threw it away, he goes through like three packs of gum a week
When he’s really excited he probably like slams his hands of counters and stuff
The human embodiment of the Leg Bounce ™
Sensory stims are his SHIT man, Ricky probably makes fun of him because of how many slime blogs he follows
Hyper Fixates on really specific things like how planes work and ends up watching shows ‘How it’s Made’ and various documentaries and reads like every slightly related Wiki and before he knows it it’s been 40 hours and he hasn't moved for two days
Forgets to eat way too fucking much
A smart boy, he’s pretty good at understanding things on a base level and his anxiety forces him to behave enough in class so he isn’t diagnosed with ADHD until he’s like 15 and his parents are the kind of people who “Don't believe in labels” and think “It's just a phase everyone goes through” and Jacob is SUFFERING
Zones out a lot
He’s TERRIBLE at studying and reading stuff like he gets distracted v easily
When he tries to study for finals it’s like dissociation central and hours of Tumblr scrolling
The reason he hates his job at Smart Aid is because it’s that type of Boring ™ where you feel like your brain is going to explode and you’re filled with such an overwhelming sense of under stimulation you want to slam your head against a table
Goes through interests so fast. I can guarantee this boy has played at least 5 sports, been in 20 + clubs, and picked up a million hobbies before dropping them all within a month to a year (like in the book when he talks about how the year before he had begged his parents for a camera he no longer gave two shits about like that’s so relatable man)
CANNOT maintain friendships. He won’t text back or drives them away and he’s honestly surprised Ricky and the peculiars have stuck around so long.
Olive
Weirdest fucking thought processes, like she’ll just be sitting at the dinner table and be like “Doesn’t that old lady who lives halfway up the street have red curtains?” and everyone is like “wut” and she’s like “WELL we were having turkey for dinner and that made me think of when me and my parents moved to England, right? And I met this girl named Tilly and she was my best friend! And Tilly had this Golden-Brown hair, right, that was in these pretty bright copper coils? And it looked exactly the color of this turkey! And Tilly only visited over the winter because she was staying with her aunt and she taught me all about christmas and I taught her about hanukkah and she got me this really nice skirt one year for what we called christmaanukah! It was brown. But her Aunt didn’t like her hanging around me right? And whenever Tilly visited and we hung out it was cold because we had to hide outside and her cheeks got all red and then I remembered I tore my current skirt and I wanted Horace to make me a new one but this time a red one  because red is just a much more pleasant color isn’t it? But we’d need to go into town and steal some red fabric right? So I thought of the old lady with red curtains. Horace do you think that would make a nice skirt?” and all Horace, who is used to these tangents is just like “sure olive”
Stims so MUCH
When she’s excited she gets very bouncy and just kinda hops around and if the peculiars aren’t careful she might just like hop to the ceiling or the sky
Flaps so much holy shit she gets so excited man and you know, you just gotta Flap ™
Gets distracted very easily
Not the best at school, she’s loud and forgetful and she tries SO HARD but can’t focus
Wants to Always Do Something. It doesn’t matter what but this girl Cannot Sit Still
When she gets her mind set on something NOTHING can stop her from starting. Starting being the key word here. She’ll focus on one project for like three days straight and then stop right before finishing cuz she got bored and it drives Miss Peregrine INSANE
SO IMPULSIVE
Jacob gets her a Fidget Spinner and she’s in Heaven she loves it
Needs to say out loud what she plans on doing or she WILL forget
Together
Have the most inconsistent rapidly changing conversations that NO ONE can follow
Don’t tell them to get anything or remember anything or go anywhere without someone else because they WILL distract each other and forget
They definitely infodump to everyone and each other, Bronwyn and Millard are good to infodump too because they listen and REMEMBER some of your random babble. Sometimes Jacob and Olive will infodump to each other and have a full conversation, both talking about two completely different subjects and overlapping each other and it’s a glorious mess.
Neither have ANY perception of time its bad

Our interview with the cast of Wizards Of Warna Walk has just ended and as lead actress Emma Sofea turns to her TV mother Carmen Soo to bid her farewell, she exclaims, “Bye mummy!”
Indeed, Emma and Soo, along with the rest of the cast Datuk Afdlin Shauki, Mia Sara and Idan Aedan have become very much like a real family.
After all, the quintet spent around two months on set playing a fictional wizarding family earlier this year in the Malaysian adaptation of the popular American series, Disney’s Wizards Of Waverly Place.
Set in Kuala Lumpur, the 14-episode Wizards Of Warna Walk chronicles the magical adventures of the peranakan D’Cruz family.
Mum and dad Jasmin (Soo) and Norman (Afdlin) are wizards who run a kopitiam, Little NyoNyum. Meanwhile, the kids, Amelia (Emma), Alissa (Mia) and Aiden (Idan), have to navigate between school life, being teenagers and learning to use their magical abilities responsibly.
During an exclusive interview with StarLifestyle, the cast spills the beans on what it took to land their roles, what went on behind the scenes on set and the challenges they faced bringing the show to life.
Talents far and wide
Three hundred and fifty. That’s the number of children who vied for the three spots to play the D’Cruz siblings.
As it was an open casting, kids from all walks of life were considered and mulled over by producers in the span of seven weeks.
Idan, 15, describes the casting process: “For me, besides acting, I was asked to sing and dance as well. There were a number of callbacks and at times, we would be grouped with different sets of ‘families’ and we’d go through a scene together.”
Arriving at a decision was no easy feat, especially for the part of the show’s lead Amelia – the same character in the American version that first catapulted pop phenomenon Selena Gomez to fame. At just 13, Emma, who had no prior showbiz experience, prevailed.
“We tested many girls for the role of Amelia, and as she is the anchor for the series, it was important that we cast someone that audiences across South-East Asia can relate to,” says Christopher Ho, The Walt Disney Company South-East Asia’s director of multi-platform programming services for media networks.
“We found Emma’s acting style to be very natural, and for someone with no formal acting experience, she really impressed us with her abilities and range.”

Seasoned comedian-turned-director Afdlin also sings her praises: “When I heard that this was her first time, I was like, ‘Are you for real?’
“Because she’s so comfortable on set. And as a director, you know if somebody is good or not. She’s really good.”
It’s been a while since Afdlin last appeared in front of the camera, focusing on directing and producing instead. He talks about returning to the spotlight: “Last year, I starred in (comedy-action film) Bikers Kental 2 and I caught the acting bug again.”
The 48-year-old was approached by producers to audition for the role, something he hasn’t done in a while.
“I grew up with Mickey Mouse. So it’s a childhood dream to be a part of Disney, and I thought, ‘Yes, of course, I’ll do the audition’.”
Incidentally, unknown to Afdlin, his real-life daughter Mia, had auditioned to be a part of Wizards Of Warna Walk earlier. “We didn’t realise we were doing the same show until later.”
Mia, who first forayed into showbiz in 2016, was initially nervous about auditioning.
“I would audition for a lot of things before but never get called back. When it happened, it felt like things are finally falling into place and all my hard work paid off,” says the 19-year-old.
Parents in fiction and in life
Soo, who played a hoity-toity socialite in the 2018 Hollywood blockbuster Crazy Rich Asians, inhabits the role of a caring mum this time around.
In real life, the 41-year-old actress just welcomed her first child last year.
After taking a year off to care for her daughter, she talks about getting back to work again.
“I started work again filming a Singaporean drama series and then I got this.
“So I was shooting two projects back to back. It was quite hard juggling my baby and my work,” recalls Soo, whose 18-month-old daughter was with her at Pinewood Studios, Johor, where Wizards Of Warna Walk was filmed.
Despite her busy schedule, the actress says she enjoyed being on the series, adding playing an on-screen mum even taught her a thing or two about being a mum in real life.
“As a new mum, it’s very interesting when I play this role. I look at my three teenage kids and I’m like, ‘OK, this is how it’s going to be.’ So it’s quite a learning experience for me.
“I actually talked to Afdlin on set quite a bit about parenting too like, ‘How do you talk to your daughter about this and that when she turned a certain age?’”

Being a father of two teens in real life, Afdlin certainly had no problems tapping into his paternal instincts for his character.
At one point in our interview, Afdlin turns to Mia and asks: “Am I different (as a father) in real life compared to on the show?”
Mia responds with a smile: “Yes. This is the first time I’ve worked full time with my dad and I discovered, usually, he’s very quiet but when he’s on set, he keeps telling me jokes and he plays music.”
Afdlin nods in agreement with his daughter’s observations, before adding: “One thing I’ve learned over the years is that you must keep the energy up during the shoot and have a playful mood because it’s long hours.
“I do it because if you alone are going strong but the rest are tired, it still doesn’t work. That’s why I always crack jokes on set.”
Afdlin’s fatherly nature naturally showed on set especially when his younger co-stars needed help.
“When someone forgets their lines and there’s like dead air, Afdlin would lighten up the situation and say something like, ‘If you were on an island, who would you bring with you?’ So then we would improv, which helps us a lot,” says Idan.
For the first time in forever
For its younger cast members, there’s always something new to uncover on the set of Wizards Of Warna Walk, especially for first-time actress Emma.
“I’ve never been on set. I’ve never filmed anything. Period. So when I first stepped on set, I was surprised.
“For example, the temperature on the set is actually quite cold,” she shares.
“I learned that it’s actually to keep the lights on set from heating up and exploding.”
Asked if she felt the pressure of playing the lead and filling Selena Gomez’s shoes, she responds: “The way Selena portrayed her character was obviously outstanding. She did an amazing job. For me, being a first-timer, I didn’t know what to expect but I felt I just had to believe in myself and that I can do it.”
One of the challenges of filming the series for the budding stars is having to act with computer-generated imagery (CGI).
“We’re not familiar with working with CGI. It’s important to listen to the visual effects crew who will tell us exactly where to stand and what to do,” Mia says.
Idaan adds: “At first, it was quite tricky but we eventually got used to it.”
Filming spanned two months. Idan and Emma, who are still in school, made sure their studies were still a priority throughout this time.
Idan is homeschooled and is tutored by his mum when he’s not filming while a teacher comes over and keeps Emma abreast on her studies on her day off.
Wizards Of Waverly Place, which ran from 2007 to 2012, was wildly successful. Its grand finale drew in over 10 million viewers and launched pop star Selena Gomez’s (far left) career.
Wizards Of Warna Walk marks the first time the original American series is getting a localised adaptation.
Disney’s move to churn out more localised content might have been spurred by the success of 2017’s Club Mickey Mouse, the Malaysian adaptation of American variety programme The Mickey Mouse Club.
In fact, Ho says Club Mickey Mouse is the No. 1 show on Disney Channel in South-East Asia.
He talks about choosing to adapt the series over other popular Disney shows like Hannah Montana and The Suite Life Of Zack & Cody.
“Our strategy is focused on what we believe will be the most appealing for individual markets across the region, and which stories will resonate locally.
“We tested several formats and Wizards was the top pick. More importantly, the show was popular with both boys and girls. The fantasy and comedy aspects, together with the family values that are core to the show, have universal appeal,” he explains.
To resonate with Malaysians, a significant amount of Bahasa Malaysia is incorporated into the script – including the use of pantuns! – besides featuring locally-composed music.
More than just the language, the series tries to capture the Malaysian way of life.
“In this show, we place a lot of importance on Asian values. So viewers will be able to see a lot of the common ways Asian parents discipline their children, for example,” Soo offers.
Beyond Malaysia, the series will also air in Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines.
“It’s a dream come true. I’ve always wanted to work internationally and this is the first big step to get there,” Mia enthuses.
Well, anything’s possible. Just be sure to work your magic!

Timestamp #TW10: Out of Time
Torchwood: Out of Time (1 episode, s01e10, 2006)
Lessons learned from the most unexpected people.
The team patiently awaits a plane called the Sky Gypsy at a local airport. The twist on this arrival is that it hails from 1953, and the passengers – pilot Diane Holmes, Emma-Louise Cowell, and John Ellis – are surprised that they have flown through the Cardiff Rift. The accidental time travelers are taken to the Hub and debriefed, but the news is hard to take. So is the revelation that they can never return home.
The newcomers learn about how their families fared, and they’re fascinated and appalled by modern items such as automatic doors, televisions, DVDs, lads’ mags, and tea bags. Torchwood Three takes on the task of caring for the travelers until they can adapt to the 21st century. Jack befriends John, Gwen looks after Emma, and Owen tends to Diane.
Diane wants to keep flying – aviation is in her blood – but her license expired long ago. Between her independence and desire for chivalry, she and Owen strike up a relationship. And by relationship, I mean Owen is typical Owen and Gwen has been replaced in the casual sex department. Their relationship builds, but Owen and love are no replacement for the open sky. She leaves him a note and heads for the airport. After a goodbye kiss, Diane takes to the sky once again in the Sky Gypsy, firm in her belief that the Rift will take her home. Owen softly cries as she disappears into the clouds.
Emma’s parents have died during her journey, and after getting a cheerful start with a couple of roommates (and a small altercation with an overprotective John), Gwen takes her home. Emma sleeps on the couch, gets an eyeful of Rhys, and poses as Gwen’s cousin from out of town. The trio goes out to a nightclub, but Emma gets some mixed signals about how relationships work in the modern era. Emma later gets a job at a shop in London, and although Gwen wants her to stay in Cardiff, she changes her mind when Rhys discovers that Emma and Gwen are not related. Emma moves on to London, but the damage is done between Gwen and Rhys.
John was a traveling salesman who wants to reconnect with his family. Specifically, he wants to find his son, Alan, his only surviving relative. Sadly, he is devastated to find his son suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and barely able to make connections to his own past. Jack feels for him since there is no enemy to fight and no clear way to solve the problem. John is watching the end of his family line rushing right toward him. John steals Ianto’s keys and drives to his former home. John sees no other way out besides suicide, and even Jack can’t talk him out of it. Together, they sit in an enclosed garage with the idling car and John dies from carbon monoxide poisoning. Jack is shaken because John was a kindred spirit, a fellow man out of time, and now the captain is alone once more.
Miles apart, all three of our heroes reminisce over the last week and how their lives have been changed.
For the three travelers, the adaptation to modern life over one week is both adorable and tragic. The wonder of the new world in their eyes is fun to watch, but it’s also overwhelming. The way that it affects Jack, Gwen, and Owen is wonderful and adds just a bit more dimension to their characters. Jack Harkness’s story in this episode was particularly touching.
The parallels to Countrycide are evident: Sure, there are no backwoods cannibals here – in fact, there is no enemy at all in this story – but the drama that doesn’t rely on Doctor Who tropes is exceptional. The science fiction is limited to time travel that we don’t see in action, and the superhuman abilities are limited to Jack’s passive ability to withstand carbon monoxide poisoning. We also see Owen and Gwen’s affair, which started in Countrycide, starting to fall apart here.
We also continue the Torchwood tradition of post-watershed f-bombs. Hey, it’s another Countrycide parallel!
On the downside, Tosh and Ianto were minimally used in this episode. That’s the second story in a row, and a trend that I hope gets reversed.
Rating: 4/5 – “Would you care for a jelly baby?”
    UP NEXT – Torchwood: Combat
The Timestamps Project is an adventure through the televised universe of Doctor Who, story by story, from the beginning of the franchise. For more reviews like this one, please visit the project’s page at Creative Criticality.

I know, I know I have been gone for a while. I took a bit of a sabbatical, because I was having a hard time coming up with content and then would go into a shame spiral etc. Blogging stopped being fun and became another thing to beat myself up about, if you haven’t picked up on it I might have a slight self esteem issues… but I am back and applying less pressure on myself because ultimately I enjoy blogging.
Anyway! I wanted to take a few to talk about some of my favorite Fictional Escapes (see what I did there?) from 2017. Some I blogged about already, some I have not. Even though I have it in a list format, it is not a ranking. THAT WOULD BE LIKE ASKING ME TO PICK A FAVORITE CHILD! Here are 10 favorite things from 2017:
s1. Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
I blogged about this book, so I wont spend a ton of time on this one, my feelings on this book are well documented here, on Twitter and Facebook. BTW Taylor Jenkins Reid is a mega sweetie to her fans, I suggest following her. This book was absolutely amazing! I read it in like a day. I say read, but more devoured it. The book takes you through 2 stories of very different women and how their lives connect. It is beautifully written and so well done at times I forgot I wasn’t reading an Autobiography.
2. Reincarnation Blues
Another one that I haven’t shut up about since I read it. Milo is the oldest soul in the universe, living nearly all of his 10,000 lives. We are taken through several of his lives as he tries to reach perfection, as well as his time between lives where he is in love with a Death who goes by Suzie. This book is magical, fun, and at times heart breaking. This book is reminiscent of Douglas Adams. The many different worlds Michael Poore has built in just one book is astounding.
3. Twin Peaks the Return
Tumblr media
What can I say about this show? Honestly I am never so happy to be confused then when watching Twin Peaks, and the Return took that up a notch or. Kyle MacLachlan playing several hard roles so perfectly, you forget its the same actor. Dougie Jones absolutely broke my heart on a weekly basis, while the bad Cooper was scary as hell. The fact they were on Showtime, they were able to get a lot darker then in the original show. Plus we so got this beautiful sigh-worthy moment:
Tumblr media
#BigEdandNormaForever
4. The final season of the Mindy Project
Tumblr media
Mindy, Mindy, Mindy. There is nothing that Mindy Kaling has done that I didn’t love, this show included. I was hooked from the very first episode. The characters, the story line, the jokes, everything was perfect. Season 6 was the shortest and one of the best seasons of the show. They wrapped up everyone’s story line, with out every feeling like everyone was short changed or rushed. With out spoiling the overall story arch, I was nervous about how the show would end, the direction it seemed to head and they nailed it, with out sacrificing the character’s emotional growth as I feared they could. This show goes down as one of my all time favorites with 30 Rock, Parks and Rec and Scrubs. I will miss this show so much!
5. Season 3 of Playing House
Tumblr media
Ugh! I guess technically I should have titled this one “The final season of Playing House” but I’m not there emotionally and it is too soon. I knew the Mindy Project was ending, this one was ripped from my arms by the cruel USA. This show. THIS SHOW YOU GUYS! I have so many thoughts and feelings about it, and have blogged about it in the past. The entire show is amazing, but season 3 was something truly special. Season 3 had Emma being diagnosed with breast cancer and shows her and Maggie battle it together, in a story line “ripped from the headlines” as Law and Order likes to say. You see in reality the lead actresses Jessica and Lennon are best friends, and Jessica did have breast cancer. The way the show handled the story line was perfect. It was touching and informative. It was sad at times with out ever actually feeling too heavy. They educated us on cancer treatment options, with out ever pulling you out of the story or feeling preachy about things. Damn you USA Network for canceling it! If you have On Demand, I could not recommend watching this show enough.
6. Womp It Up! Podcast
Tumblr media
What? Jessica and Lennon get 2 spots on your list? Yes they do, because they are amazing people who rocked my 2017. Womp It Up! has been around for a while, but I didn’t discover it until this year, and luckily for me I didn’t have to wait a year and half between episodes like other fans. Womp I Up! is a comedy podcast that was birthed from Comedy Bang Bang characters. Jessica St Clair plays Marissa Wompler, a 17(ish) year old, not very well adjusted, student at the Marina Del Rey High School, the podcast is her senior project. She is doing some alternative learning in her school’s program called STARS, ran by her teacher and lets face it best friend Charlotte Listler, played by Lennon Parahm. Every week there is a new comedian on playing a person in the Marina Del Rey community. My favorite has been Andrew Daly as Joe Bongos, the Health teacher who has some interesting ideas on what to teach the kids.
7. Oh, Hello on Broadway
Tumblr media
Oh, Hello got it’s start on the Nick Kroll Show, where Gil Faizon and George St Geegland had a prank show on public access channel in New York. Their one prank was ordering a tuna sandwich with way too much tuna, ultimately getting the person say “That’s too much tuna”. What was the prank show called? Too Much Tuna of course. Somehow, in Nick Kroll and John Mulaney’s brilliance they were able to make a super successful Broadway play based on these two dirt bags.
Gil (a writer) and George (an actor) have been best friends and roommates since the 1970s. They decided to write an autobiographical play telling their story. The brilliance of this show is the play that is happening around the play. It gets pretty meta at times, often Gil and George stop the actual play to have their own interactions, generally it is Gil giving George notes on how he is doing in the play. The sheer detail that has gone into this show is mind boggling. I can’t even describe the layers of the play. I highly recommend checking it out.
8. Wonder Woman
Tumblr media
Let’s not get into a DC vs MCU argument here, generally I am an MCU fan and haven’t been too excited over the last few DC movies, but this one. I will admit was a little nervous when I first saw Gal Gadot was cast as Wonder Woman, but she won me over immediately in Batman vs Superman. I was still cautiously optimistic for the Wonder Woman movie, but it came out better then I imagined. In my opinion it was just awesome (I am aware of the issues people had with it, but to me the good outweigh the bad). I enjoyed the hell out of it, it made me laugh and cry. I also enjoyed the feel of it, different then the other super hero movies, it felt more like a war movie. If you haven’t seen it, check it out!
9. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 and Thor: Ragnarok
I decided to combine these two into one, because well I didn’t want this list to be 3/4s super hero movies. I could also write a book on my feelings for these two movies and their directors. Guardians was written and directed by James Gunn and Thor was directed by Taiki Waititi, a kiwi writer and director known for his work with Flight of the Concords, What we do in the Shadows to name a couple. Also if you’re looking for a sort of weird but sweet movie, check out Eagle Vs Shark.
These two movies have a bit of a rag-tag team thing going on, and both delve into family relationships. They are both visually stunning, and laugh out loud hilarious, (yes I know that is a problem some people have with Marvel, but I love to laugh and they are right up my alley). Their similarities are one reason I decided to group them together. The first Guardians became my favorite Marvel movie about 10 minutes into it, and was thrilled that James Gunn actually made something better. I have always had a soft spot for Thor, and been sad at the state of the movies he’s had. I left Ragnarok thinking they finally gave him the movie he deserves, also Jeff Goldblum at his Goldbumiest.
My other favorite part of both of these movies, is they seemed to fix the villain problem. Hela and Ego managed to be interesting and complex. They didn’t seem to fall flat like others have in the past.
These two movies are all in all a good ass time!
10. Hamilton the Musical, paired with Hamilton the book
Tumblr media
I know, I know. It’s based on true events, but some of it is changed for dramatic effect. I am so late to the game on Hamilton, but I just recently got Spotify Premium which let me listen to the soundtrack in order… and I am HOOKED. I decided to check out the biography the musical was based on by Ron Chernow. Combining the two adds a lot more depth to the play, certain lines in songs make sense. There is so much drama in Hamilton’s life, so much that the play never even touched on.
If you want to add to your Hamilton experience, read the book as well. Honestly, it makes the entire experience so much better.
  Thanks for reading everyone!
Check out my top 10 from 2017 list of my favorite Fictional Escapes. I know, I know I have been gone for a while. I took a bit of a sabbatical, because I was having a hard time coming up with content and then would go into a shame spiral etc.
