Twelve, still grieving his wife and hence wanting to avoid a companion falling for him again, meeting Bill: Ah, a lesbian!
Thirteen, meeting Yaz: Ah, a lesbian!
Mandip: “I think it has been all the way through. Like I think you’ve always seen that Yaz really cares about The Doctor. Not gonna say more than like y’know Ryan and Graham. But a little bit more than Ryan and Graham.”
Jodie: “[Laughing] I’m ’er favorite.”

see the problem with having multiple doctor who episodes where daleks are used for comic relief is that the narrative has to work so much harder to convince me they're credible villains in the episodes where i need to take them seriously
idea: if the next doctor is another woman/if they have long hair they need to wear it in all sort of fun braided styles as an homage to yaz if/once she leaves
and maybe if yaz leaves with thirteen, it's a moment where they're figuring out their outfit and the way they want to look. they sit down in front of a mirror and take their hair into their hands and take a deep breath. they've never tried to braid before but the concept is familiar, they've seen yaz do it to her own head a few times, it's just weaving hair over and under itself, right? can't be that hard.
or maybe yaz stays a bit longer after their regeneration but the sentiment is still there when the doctor chooses to try to braid their hair. nervous hands in the mirror when they finally feel capable of moving on from yaz, but are still choosing to honor her with the braids.
but either way, i think the story wiuld go the same:
all they can manage at first is a single plain braid, but they're happy with it. it's messy and there's pieces sticking out but it doesn't matter, yaz would be proud, they think.
sometimes maybe they don't want to even try, the memory of yaz is too fresh and too painful. but as time goes on, they can muster up the courage more often. maybe their next companion lets them practice on their head, too. and maybe they share stories with this new companion while they braid, about yaz and all of the adventures they had together.
eventually they can create styles as intricate as yaz wore, and they know yaz would definitely be proud of them being able to overcome what emotions they weren't capable of expressing before. this new doctor is much better at sharing things, after everything that happened between them and yaz before, they wouldn't dare making the same mistakes again.
even if it isn't shown in as much detail as ive written, i still think it would be cool to have the doctor do braids and them get better with each episode, even if it's never addressed that that's the reason, it would be a fun little reference to yaz
probably an unpopular opinion in the DWU but I think the Timeless Child arc was a brilliant way of making sure that the Doctor has infinite regenerations so that the show can go on forever.
adding onto my list of favourite twelve moments/quotes: “there's a horror movie called alien? that's really offensive. no wonder everyone keeps invading you.” & taking bill to an alien planet and making her believe the sky is made of lemon drops for a moment because it would be nice<3
