Doesn't she look like an angel? 3 years ago I discovered this show. At first, I was reticent to watch it: the description wasn't especial at all and the picture Netflix chose to represent it was totally random. But it kept appearing as a suggestion for me over and over again for several months so I surrendered. Best. Decision. Ever. At an age I thought my hobbies and passions were quiet and not as strong as they once were, this show proved me I was wrong and I know nothing (while Phryne Fisher knows everything, of course). Since that moment, I allowed myself to fall down the rabbit hole. Now, I couldn't be more in love with Phryne and Jack but also with this show that allowed me to meet the most extraordinary set of ladies who teach me, guide me, entertain me and inspire me every day of my life, just like Phryne does. Some MFMM thoughts that no-one wants....

So Murder and Mozzarella got me thinking and because I’ve not been well and have been stuck in bed all day I decided to write some of my thoughts down. 

1) I think it’s really interesting that they put 2 ‘jealous lovers’ episodes back to back - in 3.02 we see Jack obviously jealous of Phryne and her ‘old friend’ Compton while in 3.03 we see Phryne dealing with the same feelings about Jack and Concetta. Neither hides it very well do they. I wonder if this was purposeful, setting them up for something further, another step in the realisation that they have come to mean far more to each other than they intended which I suppose starts the run up to the famous airfield scene. 

2) But in this episode, there’s a difference as well because other people notice something isn’t right and neither of their hearts are in it - “Whoever he is, he’s a lucky man.” and “Your heart is taken.” Also, Phryne’s reaction when Guido says that, the little snort she gives as if she’s dismissing it, is such a freaking give-away.

3) Also, I like how they contrast the two women vying for Jack’s attention in this episode. Phryne who will not settle down and has told him as much and Concetta who will leave everything for him (albeit her family situation isn’t a particularly happy one). And Jack, good old Jack who I just seem to love more and more which each episode, who refuses to take Concetta for a ride despite being in a prime position to do so, who respects and cares for Concetta so much that he just wants her to be happy and is able to admit (ok not vocally but that is what he does in that scene-he doesn’t deny the fact that he is taken, not once) that he is not the person to do it because his attachments lie elsewhere. Jack Robinson, the man who always does the noble thing. For God sake, Phryne just bang him already! 

Also on a side note, interesting how Concetta brings up the idea of marriage and Jack considers her proposal...our DI certainly seems to be drawn to a certain type doesn’t he. 

4) And Phryne is definitely sulking in her parlour at the end. She’s also still waiting up for Jack, in their usual place despite thinking that he will be spending the night with his ‘old friend’. I mean she’s gazing soulfully into the fire and then watching the door longingly. And it’s not the only time in this episode that Phryne has been ridiculously obvious. The whole ‘Promise me you’ll be careful too.’ scene - I mean her entire demeanour changes. Her voice goes soft and vulnerable, she grips his suit as if to ground herself and he nods and she’s back to the same old Miss Fisher. Sorry Phryne, we saw it.  

I just think this episode, especially when coupled with the previous one, may not seem to be particularly shippy and some may argue the exact opposite, what with Phryne bedding two men and Jack ultimately being proposed to by a lady, but actually are really important in the set-up for phrynexjack endgame (which better bloody be coming so help me God.) My work is done, apologies for the rambling, nonsensical rubbish. I clearly need to go and find something to do. 

Also Dorothy Williams is a GIFT from God and anyone who says otherwise can fight me.

Can we just talk about how much I squealed (yes, I know this is a while back now) when Phryne told Jack that "not even Mark Antony would want to kiss this one"? Because really, Mark Antony and Cleopatra is just their thing and they haven't really referred to it this series and I missed it and then all of a sudden there was one of them (admittedly not in the most romantic moment, but still). Okay, that was all.
