China-Pakistan economic corridor

The world is evolving in a big way. Pakistan was struggling due to electricity shortages, bad security situations and many other politicalchallenges. We had to do something and we had to do it fast. It was in those times when Pakistan decided to launch the biggest initiative in the history of the country with China which pulled a mammoth investment of 46b$ initially, which is now whopping around almost 65b$ with the inclusion of more projects. If you are thinking that the project is all about accessing the warm waters on the southern side of the country then the perception is wrong. The project initiated with much bigger vision and goals.

The success of the project largely depends upon the situation if the country. The frequent power outages and security crisis was a big challenge. The country is hydroelectric power dominated. To build new dams wasn’t an easy task as we needed energy in short time notice. Coal was a good alternative as it takes much less time and resources to build a coal based plant. As for security situation Pakistan army launched operations in north and south Waziristan,Baluchistan, and in Karachi. Now comes the part of development and mega projects.

The China Pak economic corridor includes series of mega projects from Karachi to khujarab, highways, motorways, metro train, new power houses, solar power projects, realignment of rail and roads, Gwadar port, Gwadar airport and industrial zones in different parts of the country, development of eastern, central and western route alignments and many more. The question here is which country is benefiting more from the projects. Obviously both, Pakistan gets a much needed boost and china gets a short trade route for its western part of the country. The benefits of the projects ultimately come to the grass root level. CPEC created new jobs, opportunities, and opened the door for new dreams as well. It’s up to us now how much we benefit from new created opportunities.
