Pruning the Branches
Chapter 2 is up on AO3!
The tension was cut, slightly, once all of the siblings they had left were rounded up in Misery‘s Lair and they no longer had to worry about losing anyone else.
Dokkaibi and Flynn had checked on everyone, well, gotten visual on everyone at least, so they were able to figure out who all had been lost without having to ask. They didn’t want to open any more wounds than they had to. Not when they were still so freshly cut.
It was a devastating realization. Flynn had assumed they’d mostly been younger, less experienced siblings. And some had—but at least two of them were older. One of the lost, Distro-giest, had even been Enlightened.
Whoever it was that was hunting them down must have been powerful . Flynn hadn’t thought anyone short of the Ancients could hurt someone like him.
…short of the Ancients.

MAIN (  Dragonflight )  !
THREE YEARS of peace has befallen Azeroth between the journey into the lands of undeath and the rediscovery of the Dragon Isles. With no war to wage, Lysirae has fallen into complacency despite keeping close eye on the goings on of the distant lands. Weary from battle, she remains far too hesitant to rejoin the efforts against the ancient threat. For how long can she ignore the call?
SHADOWLANDS ( CANON past ) !
CROSSOVER  !
RETIREMENT ESCAPES Lysirae yet again as Azeroth lands in the sight of another Godlike being, seeking to destroy it. Journeying across the veil with the members of the Ebonblade and champions of the horde, they are tasked with the rescue of Anduin, Baine, Jaina, and  Thrall. Discovering that their only way out of the Maw is through her, Lysirae is forced to escape without them for the time being and make relations with the four main factions of the Shadowlands as the Maw Walker, if there is to be any hope of rescuing both their leaders and the world from their cruel fates.
Lysirae travels through the portal Nexus as a diplomat to your world, seeking more allies to join the Alliance cause.

RESIDENT EVIL  !
In two-thousand-nine, the Beaumonts were invited by the city of Kijuju to make an appearance for the grand opening of the new hospital building funded, and constructed by order of Iron Mountain. As their mother was preoccupied with other pressing matters, Lysandra and Imir were sent in her stead. They were just cutting the ribbon when Wesker and his plaga plunged Kijuju into absolute madness; Imir and Lys were separated as a result of the chaos. Refusing to evacuate and return home without her brother,  she spent several days utilizing what she could to search for him with the resources they could spare her. Unfortunately, Imir was never found. Continue

OC Character Sheet
2020 UPDATE
Setting: distant future post-post-apocalypse. Tired of the humans ravaging the earth many monsters and magical creatures rose up and took control of the planet to save it. Centuries later, some humans adapted and live side by side with the new supernatural neighbors, but most that survived still live separately in isolated city-states. Times however are threatening to change once again.
Notable Character List
Thaddeus Varni: main character. His mother was elected governess of his human city-state of Waldrand (in modern Austria/Styria) so he’s lived about a good a life as a human could in this world albeit very sheltered and vaguely stressed. He was turned into a vampire accidentally when the city was attacked by the small vampire nation. Now as a monster he cannot return home, his goal now is to become human again and stop the vampire nation from attacking again. The attack also damaged his throat significantly, the bite left him mute and with a large scar. He’s very self conscious about the scar, and especially in the beginning he wears things like scarves or a poncho to cover his neck. He communicates at first with writing on notepads but eventually learns sign language. He goes from very stiff and proper to more loose and expressive as a result of learning sign. A grump with a heart of gold, just wants to sit in his vegetable garden tbh. Thaddeus can be hard to get to know but once you do become his friend he is willing to throw hands with anything for you. He’ll fight anything actually (especially if that thing is much bigger than he is, which is usually the case as he’s rather short and slight). Most likely to eat pizza with a knife and fork. He hates it when people call him Tad. As a vampire he has the ability to shapeshift (his form is a pine marten).
Shahrazad Zargari: An alchemist originally from a city in the Iraq region. Thaddeus meets her while she is telling stories in the street using alchemy to make and animate little figures to go along with her tales. They eventually end up traveling together as she knows the outside magical world much better. As an alchemist she was meant to be traveling the world from town to town to offer services and alchemical medicine but she found she likes telling stories and creating art with alchemy better. Her family doesn’t know about what she’s been doing while traveling and she hopes to keep it that way (such is the life of a liberal arts student). She has a talent for creating golem which she considers friends even if they are only friend shaped empty shells. Shahrazad’s an actual ray of sunshine, most likely to be a studio ghibli protag.
Feliz Guillermo Rivera: a spanish sailor, he lives on a small caravel boat/ house boat named La Foca. He spends most of his days fishing and playing music and movies obnoxiously loud much to the annoyance of whoever he’s docked next to. Feliz makes his living selling fish and offering ferry services on his boat which is how he meets Thaddeus and Shahrazad. He was human but ends up tragically turned into a vampire during their adventures. They all learn to manage it together. Feliz was left with the boat after his parents were killed by a sea monster attack. Because of this Feliz is very attached to the boat and still struggles going out into large open waters instead preferring to stay close to shore. He also developed OCD tendencies as he struggled to cope ie intrusive thoughts and compulsive tendencies to count items and double check things on the boat in an effort to maintain control. He’s learning to manage it better with things like music and jigsaw puzzles. Most likely to eat all the marshmallows from the Lucky Charms. He can play the guitar, ukulele, and the accordion. As a vampire he has the ability to shapeshift (his form is a seal).
Ramon and Concha: This bonded pair are the kobolds/ klabautermann that live with Feliz on the boat the La Foca. They have watched over the family’s boat since the time of Feliz’s grandparents. They consider themselves family, and these two watch over Feliz as if he were their own. As klabautermann they protect the boat, in fact they’re practically are a part of the boat really. Concha tends to help Feliz with the sails or steering. She also likes joining Feliz in his music making, playing the accordion, even though the thing is about the size of her torso. While Concha is very sweet like an old granny, Ramon is much more rough and gruff. He tends to help with the cooking and keeping the ship clean and tending to the mechanics. He likes to take the form of a fire on the stove to cook.
Hugh Wesley: Hugh was a doctor who was bitten by a vampire he had been treating as a patient. He was chased out of town for being a vampire and spent many years adrift. He found peace with his condition and has been able to reintegrate into society again under the guise of being a normal shapeshifter. He does not have a medical practice anymore, although he’s always willing to provide aide. Instead he owns a flower shop, selling plants from his greenhouse in town. He’s surrounded himself with other vampires who have passed through, confused and lonely as he had been. Although many of the other vampires come and go, several stay, and together they all form a loose sort of coven. As a vampire, he has the ability to shapeshift, Hugh’s form is a black fox.
Ava and Theresa Baumann: They met at university in the UK when Ava was studying spirits and spirit magic while Theresa was a seamstress. The two fell absolutely head over heels about each other, and married. Unfortunately Ava died suddenly and Theresa could not cope. Using Ava’s research she scoured the knowledge she could trying to find a way to save Ava. This eventually led to her finding and beseeching to the Spirit of the Dead. Theresa was able to get the power of necromancy from this spirit ie giving life to the dead, however this did not work on Ava as hoped. Theresa was able to call enough soul energy from the ether to animate Ava’s decayed body and summon Ava’s soul to be present but she could not actually combine Ava’s soul and body since the connection had already been lost. So now Ava’s body is animated, mindless and basically a zombie while her soul lingers as a noncorporeal ghost. So the two can speak to and see each other again but of course it’s not ideal. They just try to manage as best they can, unsure what would happen if Theresa tried to send either Ava’s body or spirit away. The two now live in a secluded cottage surrounded by forest and a large garden. They’re Hugh’s best customers. They have a 30 year old orange cat named Purrsephone.
Antagonists:
Queen Athanasia: Queen of the vampire nation in what was once Greece/ the city of Delphi. Also known by other names like Athanasia the Deathless, or The Dragon, The Great Oracle. She became queen after she lead a coup against her own husband, the old vampire King Ambrose. She is revered for her strength, vision, and powers of fortune telling. She speaks almost exclusively through telepathy (just to flex tbh). She has lost one leg which she has fashioned a prosthetic made of brass with talons on the foot. Vicious and swift, she has high standards for vampires she lets into her society, values strength above all else. While the vampires have drained their own people and the very land of life, she has now taken it upon herself to start moving into new territory for more souls and to Make Vampires Great Again. What’s the point of being an evil queen without world domination anyway? As a vampire, her shapeshift is a barn owl.
Jan Rostami: When the vampires first started running low on souls to devour, they started demanding sacrifices from villages nearby to the west. Jan, as a sickly unremarkable member of her distinguished family, was volunteered as sacrifice quickly. This broke Jan. When she was faced with the vampires she did not fight back or beg for her life. It surprised them that instead Jan was willing to die rather than live with the shame and disdain. Athanasia offered Jan a chance to be turned and join the vampire ranks instead. Jan’s first act as a vampire was leading the attack on her ungrateful village. She’s reveled in her new strength and Athanasia’s supposed ‘love’ ever since. Jan’s vampire shapeshift is a rabbit
Erik Draugur: Athanasia’s main general and a trusted advisor. Draugur is very tall and thin, almost skeletal looking. A very grave man, but truly comes alive while hunting. He has a tendency to loom about silently over people’s shoulders. Draugur is also the one to generally keep the other vampires in line, especially Jan, whom he has yet to trust since she joined the court. His vampire shapeshift is a pale gray horse.
Abraham Ruthven: one of the oldest vampires in Athanasia’s court, he was an old Lord that did not want his wealth to outlive him so he allowed himself to be turned. He has not aged well, he looks more waxy and decrepit by the decade. What Abraham lacks in brains, he makes up for in being terribly vicious. He has his moments, which is why Athanasia has seen fit to keep him in the court as a long time advisor. His fangs come from his two front incisors, this gives him a bit of a hissing lisp. His vampire shapeshift is a bat.

some unedited, brain flow-type ramblings based on @donc-desole‘s oc percy as a villain in a ww2 era au. more about how a narrative might work then anything. i’m really rusty on my ww2 knowledge and don’t wanna let myself fall down another research rabbit hole, so i’m probably off with how military stuff works.
ww2!au possible story?
maybe wes is the unwitting companion to harry who’s on a mission. not the sidekick mind you, wes would still be the main character and protagonist, just not the action movie hero - that’s harry’s role.
wes is technically harry’s c.o. but was supposed to leave the front due to injury (losing his finger). due to a bureaucratic error nothing is done to get him out, but he’s believed to be on his way back to england. meanwhile, harry is a slightly lower ranked officer but for whatever reason is chosen to do something or other by the higher ups - he’s given a secret mission basically, and has to fake being KIA in order to proceed. or something.
despite wallowing in his horrible mood, wes is still protective of his friends.  so when a surprise skirmish happens and the world’s blowing up around them, and he sees harry run off, he runs after - partly to make sure he stays alive, partly to yell at him for being stupid. they end up in enemy territory, one believed to be heading home, the other believed KIA due to swapping uniforms/tags with a similar looking, already-dead-before-the-fight guy.
wes is livid with harry and can’t comprehend why he refuses to head back to allied territory, harry is trying to keep it together while not letting wes know that he’s - rather they’re - on a secret, possibly undercover mission.
idk how it plays out from there, specifically. harry would probably breakdown at some point and tell wes some of what he’s doing, but whether that’s before or after wes already figures it out or the mission is completed, idk. harry’s a horrible choice to carry out a secret mission tbh.
one way or another they end up very close to a german field hospital or the like. wes’ injury isn’t doing well and harry took a tumble - he’s not too badly hurt, but looks like hell. they get captured, wes chokes and just silently surrenders, but harry ups the dramatics and acts like he’s horribly wounded and confused. and also american, cus harry is just. harry. neither are wearing their uniforms anymore having changed them out for civvies, so the germans bring them to the hospital, as captives/patients i guess.
and that’s how they meet percy, a doctor and one of, if not the, chief medical officer running the place. seeing through harry’s horrible accent right off the bat, percy decides to play along and speak with a perfect english accent, which confuses the two along with his english surname(?). he immediately knows something’s up, has them searched and all their belongings taken before being restrained and left alone somewhere whilst under guard. harry keeps up the act while wes is between pissed and pissing himself.
wes and harry start bickering, thinking they’re still alone, but percy quietly enters the room alone and listens for a while. eventually wes notices him, falling silent as percy just placidly smiles back, before harry turns to see and goes deathly still and quiet as well.
then the three have a nice chat. and by “nice” i mean percy is disturbingly sweet and genial even as he semi-openly threatens them, etc. by the end of it he knows they’re british soldiers on a mission, but harry has managed not to totally give everything away. wes is extremely uncomfortable with how percy has been acting toward him in particular - which at this point is just percy having fun; he sees an opportunity to probe and observe, he takes it. harry continues to keep his american act going despite obviously being found out, which wes actually apologizes for to percy out of embarrassment, which catches the doctor off guard and intrigues him. he drops the english accent for his usual german when he responds in a positive fashion, which takes wes by surprise - cus it sounded so legit, but also cus percy could’ve really used their thinking he was english to his advantage.
wes and harry are kept as prisoner-patients basically, occasionally being questioned by percy, who almost always does so alone. they’re also kept separated, cus percy doesn’t trust them together/their bickering bothers the patients/staff. even though harry isn’t really hurt other than some scratches he’s still seen to, while wes has it bad cus his injury got infected while traipsing around the countryside. despite his being the enemy, percy claims his role as a doctor comes first and treats him personally - wes is thrown off by the genuine concern for his well-being. which while it is genuine, percy knows he can possibly use, and so ups the act.
guessing wes is of a higher rank than harry (which wes confirms) percy also mistakenly assumes that means he’s the one in charge of he and harry’s mission. despite all the uncomfortably personal interactions he ends up having with percy over time, wes manages to keep the truth to himself. mostly cus he still doesn’t know what the mission even is and doesn’t want to mess anything up for completing it if they get out alive.
speaking of personal interactions, unless wes acts out, percy treats him as though they were simply acquaintances and not captor/prisoner - talking about likes/dislikes, hobbies, interests, etc. in particular he learns of wes’ playing the violin and how broken he is over losing a finger - and uses it against him. somehow. idk, manipulation and the like, details details.
at some point percy approaches harry when wes isn’t there, under the guise of checking up on him. he casually brings the conversation to the female staff, particularly the ones that have been seeing to harry. he basically turns from soft doctor to cut-your-throat-out doctor in a split second as he causes harry a good deal of pain, warning him to stop harassing his people or he’ll be in a similar shape to wes - aka missing something or other similar to finger size. harry agrees, trying not to let on how scared he is. soft doctor is back and percy smiles, thanks him, and leaves. harry takes percy more seriously than before. which he really should’ve been anyway.
at some point wes and harry manage to talk alone, or from time to time. they realize and discuss how percy must've never reported them to his higher-ups cus no one outside the hospital has come for them. they’re hella suspicious of his motives but can’t agree on what to do about it. wes ends up deciding not to bring it up to percy.
they’re brought in for another round of questions. percy’s demeanor seems different this time - he says he’s glad they’ve recovered, and that he’s tired of their not cooperating.
then he signals the guards to beat the shit out of harry.
wes freaks out and starts yelling, which turns to begging percy to stop. percy smiles and calmly says that he’d gladly do so, if wes tells him what their goal is. wes falters when harry tells him not to, but sorta lets the cat out of the bag when he snaps back about not knowing anything anyway. percy is somewhat surprised to learn harry’s the “mastermind” here.
he lets the beating continue as he know tries to get harry to talk, who of course doesn’t. eventually percy has to call off the beating so harry isn’t too badly hurt, despite getting nothing out him. he immediately orders that harry be taken to be seen to properly while wes is left with him, trying not to cry.
percy turns to him with a friendly smile and apologizes for assuming he was who had to be targeted, and after looking thoughtful comments this way was better for wes. once asked to elaborate, percy says if he’d been targeting harry and with how stubborn he is, he’d have let most of wes’ fingers be broken before he even considers talking. harry’s so stubborn, he wouldn’t have broken as quickly as wes did, so wes likely would’ve outright lost another finger or two. how fortunate for wes that the doctor had assumed incorrectly, that he didn’t have to allow harm to come to him, etc.
percy says all of this as though the very thought disturbs him, to make wes think he actually cares, but wes isn’t responding by now out of shock/trauma. he’s led back to where he’s been being held and after a while breaks down sobbing.
after a few days of asking wes is allowed to see harry, who at the time is still bedbound and seemingly unconscious. he looks like shit, but is feigning sleep as wes visits, so they whisper to each other. wes is still messed up from what percy said about harry letting him lose his fingers, and has begun to doubt/mistrust harry’s choices - just as percy intended.
wes asks for more info on the mission, partly out of his own curiosity as to what harry would take a beating over, and also to maybe use as leverage to get them out of here. harry refuses cus he can read his friend like a book, upsetting wes. he tells harry he’s gonna get them both killed and storms off to be taken back to his room. harry feels bad but knows his friend is stressed out, and is frankly too tired/injured to care very much. which is partly planned by percy - being on pain meds to mess with his head, but not so much as to strain the supply for his actual patients.
idk, percy basically manipulates and gets wes to start doubting/mistrusting harry, while harry is kept away from him and drugged. the only interaction wes really has is with germans that don’t speak english, and percy - so really just percy. like stockholm syndrome sorta-ish, except wes is definitely, extremely wary of him.
the doctor has taken an interest in him and finds him enjoyable to “study”, but more importantly thinks he can still use him and maybe harry to his own benefit, aka mess with nazi plans somehow. he’s a great doctor and good at running the field hospital - not so much good at being a nazi.
i feel horrible just thinking about it but what if evil!percy ends up killing paddy? that’s one way to ensure your status as a villain - kill the kindly, sagely scottish dude. i have no idea how that would even work... prolly paddy’s a sniper that spies wes and harry as prisoners in the field hospital, but before he can regroup with his men to set up a rescue he’s caught or shot. injured or not, he’s captured as well, initially brought to percy when he’s questioning wes and harry at some point so the two are aware of him.
idk how that plays out, but he wouldn’t be killed immediately. and it’d definitely be the last straw for wes before he’s absolutely done with percy.
despite being a wehrmacht officer percy doesn’t agree with his boss’ ideology, aka nazism. but to maintain his job/rank/station, which he thoroughly enjoys, he has to play the part of the agreeable subordinate. which he isn’t, since he’s all about seditious acts in his free time, but he keeps up the facade.
basically his priorities are ranked: (1) immediate patients and staff. (2) other’s lives, enemy or not. (3) maintain his position as an officer in order to fulfill #1. (4) cause trouble for nazis in a way that doesn’t cost lives (to fulfill #2), without exposing himself (to fulfill #3).
nowhere in his priorities is any nazi/nationalistic bs, cus he’s a scientifically-minded doctor, and none of it makes a lick of scientific sense. people are people, and people are to be helped equally, regardless of lineage/sexuality/etc.
he’d have had to take the hitler oath at some point to serve or continue serving. it likely meant nothing to him; just another formality of staying in military service, since the alternative was p much execution. is an oath really an oath if there’s no option other to take it, beside dying? especially if the person is either agnostic or atheist, so the concept of swearing to a divine power means nothing?
or maybe he charmed his way out of it but is in the books as having taken it. suave doctor.
how would percy go about sedition while staying undetected and costing as few lives as possible? idk. but generally, it's likely stuff like bribery or blackmail, or making it so other’s plans go awry. little things that don’t seem like they’d add up to much, but could end up causing quite a change in the long run. the butterfly effect, but instead of a butterfly it’s a manipulative swiss-german military doctor that would rather not have complete idiots in charge, and instead of a hurricane it’s like. a series of inconveniences to the nazi’s overall war efforts.
that makes him sound too good though, he’s supposed to be evil... his mindset is good, that’s what it is. his overarching goal is to help his patients and stop needless loss of life - but to do so he’s willing to utterly ruin or destroy whoever he must to attain that goal, without a lick of remorse. hero’s become villains when achieving a goal outweighs maintaining a moral code - percy’s on the edge of that balancing act just by his nature, i think.
so what if he caused a small town to be destroyed by the intel he had altered via anonymous blackmail? civilian lives were lost, sure, but  if the wehrmacht had attacked and captured the actual coordinates, they’d have a supply route advantage and be able to turn the tide in their favor, costing significantly more lives, civilian or otherwise, in the long run. he’ll gladly personally send a few hundred innocents to death now to potentially save tens of thousands later.

What are some of your OC Marty's favorite things (like color, food, place in the Commonwealth, etc)?
Thanks for the questions! ♥
I’d say he strikes me as a blue lovin’ guy. He likes all colors, really, but he’s got a soft spot for that ‘pre-war blue’ as he came to call it. Much like the exteriors of those modular homes he’s seen seen a few times, or those pre-war counters and cupboards, or the remnants of what were once bright blue cars.
As for foods, he favors stuff like radstag stew and yao guai roast, but he’s not hard to please. Fairly hearty, with some meat and some veggies. Once in a while, he’ll indulge in some rabbit skewers (dat luck boost for my low luck boi lol), and occasionally, on those nice, clear mornings, he’ll take a bowl of sugar bombs up to the roof with him and munch as he just takes it all in.
And speaking of clear mornings on the roof, that would be one of his favorite spots. (I found a mod that turns the old Natick Power Station into a settlement anD IT DOESN’T CRASH MY GAME AW YISS. I think I found their home, finally!)
As for spots away from home, he likes to visit Bunker Hill when they’re out and about. He’s always really liked it there; a nice selection of merchants and services, but without all the bustle. Diamond City was impressive, he admits, but it was too big and too busy for his personal liking. He likes to check out Vault 81 every now and then, too, using selling his wares as a guise for what’s basically just an insatiable childlike curiosity and wonder. But the caps he leaves with aren’t bad, either.

Pruning The Branches
Invisobang 2023 Can I get a Hell Yeah!!!
Thanks to the wonderful @mymadmedleyw who made wonderful art here!
😍
Flynn’s first garden was a mess. It was pretty much impossible to keep anything alive in the barren soil. Plants native to the ghost zone refused to sprout, much less the plants and seeds he’d stolen from the Greenhouse or the Garden Web— garden-like traps for newly dead ghosts that were, at this point, Flynn‘s main supply of mortal vegetation.
The wonderful thing about it though, was every time he failed, every half grown plant that withered and died did something to the soil to make the next batch get just that much further along. Until eventually he was growing a full garden of vegetables and fruits that he could actually eat and sustain himself with.
A human, living in the Infinite Realms. Making a home there. The thought was so ludicrous on its own, but Flynn had managed.
