arranged marriage Rhett just has a portrait of her and a dream, to have the sweetest little wife there is who loves him for HIM, not his family’s land
Absolutely, my dear anon. The marriage was arranged when he was just a kid, but that doesn't stop him from getting around. He doesn't know who the woman is or if he'll even like her. In fact, he spends his youth pretending he has a choice in the matter, and sometimes, he even begs his parents to end the agreement, but they never budge.
Then one day, when he’s in his mid-twenties, a letter arrives. It's from her. She's of age and has been for a while, actually, but now she's ready to settle down. She asks him to call on her. Inside the letter is a photograph of her, black and white, but he can tell she's pretty. Prettier than he imagined. He wears his Sunday best and ignores the knot in his stomach on the ride over.
He meets her and is immediately smitten. He expects a meek young woman, but she holds her head high and proud. Mind you, she's inexperienced and innocent as the day she was born, and once they're married, he teaches her all about pleasure and being wicked. He relishes in corrupting her and becomes borderline obsessed with breeding her.
He loves her, but it takes a while for him to realize the feeling is mutual. It's when she stands up for him with his parents that he knows. They married to make sure her family had more access to land, and the Abbotts have access to her family's fortune, so love wasn't in the cards for them. It's a happy accident when they do fall in love.
Thank you for indulging me, anon, and I'm so sorry it took me a couple of days to reply. I appreciate you!

Rhett had done his best to hide the invitation to his high school reunion, but with a pair of nosey twin daughters and a girlfriend who was just as curious, he wasn’t surprised when they sat him down to question him about it.
His girlfriend, Faith, was a little more understanding of his reservations. He’d started to build a great life outside of Wabang, and to dig up some of those old memories would be hard. He was still the younger brother of Perry Abbott, the man who’d murdered his wife, and the youngest son of Royal Abbott, who’d helped him cover it up. While he was working on building bridges to accept his family, but also prove he wasn’t like them, to be put in a place where that was all anyone seemed to care about…yeah, he wasn’t excited in the least.
Still, his daughters persisted. Eventually, they convinced Faith it would be good for them both. Describing exactly what dress she should wear to the gathering, while still in discussion about what Rhett should wear.
“Amy said it’s all anyone in town is talking about,” TJ gushed, immediately looking at Hannah for confirmation.
“Don’t you want to see your old friends?” Hannah asked.
At nine, the twins were relentless. Stubborn just like their father, and passionate for things they cared about. Rhett couldn’t fault it, he really couldn’t. He only had himself to blame. He was kind and loving and patient with them, everything Royal wasn’t. When he was upset, he let his fists do the talking. Rhett made sure he communicated his feelings and that he was never mad or upset with them, that he would always love them.
It was important to him that they knew nothing but adoration and support from their father. That they could talk to him about their feelings and he would do his best to help them find a solution. Even when they were mad at him he would still tell them he loved them and kiss them goodnight.
“You’ve made some good points, but ultimately I think it’s time we let dad think about it,” Faith stepped in. Rhett cast her a grateful look before smiling at his daughters.
“You promise to actually think about it?” Hannah stared him down pointedly, hands on her hips.
“I promise,” he assured her. “Go brush your teeth. I’ll be in t’ check on you both shortly.”
They did as they were asked, leaving Faith to handle the dad situation for them. She’d told them she was only onboard if Rhett was, but they didn’t know she had a little more persuasion than them. Leaning into his side a little more, pressing a kiss to his cheek, a couple days worth of stubble scratching her lips.
“They know how closed off you used to be. They’ve seen you making progress with the other mom’s and dad’s, and just want to see you take back your life,” she told him softly.
He rumbled out a sigh, running a hand through his hair. “The first two sentences are them. The bit about takin’ back my life? That’s your words,” he muttered.
“No, they’re yours,” she corrected him. “They’re what you said to me after all that shit came out about who my dad is, and the state I worked myself into trying to imagine how you’d react to it all. People are going to talk about it whether you go or not, Rhett. It’s whether you want the power to control the narrative, or let them come to their own wrongful conclusions about your lack of attendance.”
“I jus’ don’t want any more bad attention brought t’ Ma or Amy,” he said, closing his eyes as she cupped his cheek and placed a soft kiss to his forehead.
“Quit worrying, cowboy,” she soothed. “Let’s go say goodnight to the girls, hm?”
Tumblr media
In the weeks leading up to the reunion, Rhett completely forgot about it. He admitted to Faith when he’d responded that he’d be in attendance with his girlfriend, she’d marked it on the calendar and organised with Cece for her to have the girls that night.
The plan was to be in Wabang by mid afternoon so Rhett and Faith could get ready. The girls were thrilled he’d agreed to go, and had taken it upon themselves to find an outfit for him that would match Faith’s. She’d found a cute tulip shaped dress that was more red than it was rusty orange, but the suit they wanted him to wear was the perfect match. A dark green piece that they wanted him to wear with a white shirt underneath.
Faith had picked out a simple silver chain to wear with it as well. The grouchy man shot down every idea for some rings or a watch, but he allowed the necklace. All three of his girls were more than happy he’d even agreed to that.
Rhett let the girls help him get ready, like they had done previously for his first few dates with Faith. They liked that he let them fuss with his hair without any complaints, even though they knew he’d constantly run his hands through it. He felt naked without a hat keeping his hair from falling in his face, but a hat wasn’t an option, apparently.
Overdressed and out of place, he knew they’d both stick out like a sore thumb. Wabang wasn’t the kind of place where people dressed up unless it was for church, and even then, cowboy hats and boots were the norm. He felt awkward, and knew he’d want to change into something he felt more comfortable in, so he kept a change of clothes of himself and Faith in his truck. If they were enjoying themselves, they could change and head to the bar like he knew everyone would do. He wanted to make sure to be prepared for every outcome. And if they weren’t having a good time, they could leave and head back to the Abbott ranch.
He indulged Cece with conversation while Amy and the twins checked on Faith. Since Faith had joined his little family unit, he’d made more of an effort to be around his mom. He wasn’t the only one betrayed by what Perry and Royal had done. He’d slowly come to realise that and had apologised to her one night about closing himself off.
Cece had understood, of course she had, but to her it felt like she’d lost all of her family. She was left to raise Amy while Rhett moved away to raise his own daughters. He came by almost every weekend so they all had some kind of relationship, but it was tense. Amy doted on the twins, loving that she had baby cousins, and Cece appreciated that she had a relationship with all of her grandchildren. But she missed her son. She watched him grow into an amazing parent without much help from her, and it hurt.
It had taken a long time to get back to a good place where they could talk freely to each other, without it ending in an argument. They both knew Faith had been the one who’d brought them back together, so it only made sense that Cece was the first person who knew Rhett wanted to marry her.
She’d seen it from their first interaction. The way she loved his daughters like they were her own. The love and wonder that shone in his eyes whenever he looked at her, like he couldn’t believe his luck. It had meant so much to Cece that she had her son back, and she’d expressed her love for Faith to him. Telling him that she brought him out of his comfort zone and challenged him in the best way, and without her, it might’ve taken longer for them to grow close again.
She didn’t know when Rhett was going to propose, but she told him that the girls needed to be involved. They were the ones who set them up, after all. If it weren’t for their meddling, he never would’ve found her.
Rhett knew he was lucky. He counted his blessings every day. Waking up next to a woman who loved him and his kids was something he’d lost hope at finding a long time ago.
His nerves for the reunion were more for the big reveal of what Faith was wearing, if he was being honest. He knew she was going to look beautiful no matter what, but when Amy, Hannah and TJ announced that she was coming downstairs, his palms started sweating. He imagined this feeling would be ten times worse at their own wedding, but it only made his excitement bubble that much more.
Faith Abbott. He didn’t even need to ask, he knew the answer would be a resounding yes.
As Faith made her way downstairs, she met Rhett’s eye and beamed brightly at him. He wondered if he looked starstruck, because he definitely felt like there was a stupid look on his face. Breath caught in his throat as she posed on the stairs for a couple of photos the twins insisted on.
“Doesn’t she look beautiful, daddy?”
Rhett could tell you every discernible difference between his identical twin daughters, but at that moment, he had no idea who asked him. And honestly, all he could do was dumbly nod and try to swallow the lump in his throat.
“Yeah, she does,” he agreed, taking her into his arms and stealing her breath away with a kiss. “Absolutely stunning.”
“Surprised the stetson hasn’t made an appearance,” Faith teased, swiping some lipstick from his mouth with her thumb.
“We hid it,” Amy stated proudly. Rhett had found it and thrown it in the back of the truck for safe keeping. Not that he didn’t trust them, but he didn’t like to go far without it.
Faith thanked her for her help while Cece gushed about how gorgeous they both looked, insisting on a couple of photos of them together.
“C’mon Ma, it’s not like we’re off t’ prom,” Rhett fussed.
“You didn’t go t’ prom,” she pointed out. “You ditched t’ go t’ a tailgate.”
Faith grinned. “Please, just a couple for me?”
He’d do anything she asked, folding almost immediately. Keeping his arm around her waist as she helped him pose and settle against him. Cece and the girls all took a few quick photos and instructed them how to pose. Even with Rhett’s grumbling, he obliged. Eventually insisting they were going to be late, kissing the girls on their cheeks before ushering Faith out the door and into his truck.
Faith asked if there were any people he wanted to see, holding his hand as they drove down the dirt road. She saw his jaw tense and his grip tighten in hers.
“We don’t have to stay long,” she assured him. “We can ditch it if you’re not having a good time…get drunk at a bar instead.”
He smiled, raising her hand to his lips and pressing a kiss to her knuckles. “You look too good t’ go t’ a dinky ol’ country bar, Lil Lady.”
He wasn’t about to reveal that he’d thought of every outcome. Used to his kids getting messy or hating being so dressed up, it was second nature to bring extra clothes. He didn’t want Faith to think he didn’t appreciate the effort she’d put into her outfit tonight. She looked good, so good that he wanted to show her off. So good that he’d planned to take advantage of her in that outfit, and he knew she’d be more than willing.
“Thanks, Handsome Cowboy.”
When they arrived at the highschool, Rhett was out of the truck and walking to the other side to help Faith out. She was used to his old school chivalry. Waiting patiently with a smile for him to get to her door and help her out, large hands settled comfortably on her hips as he brought her to the ground. She indulged him in a kiss, slow and sweet.
“Y’ready?” He asked her, bumping his nose against hers.
“Are you?”
Rhett chuckled softly. “No, but we’re here, may as well get it over with, hm?”
He kissed her once again, slipping his hand into hers and leading her toward the school. He hadn’t told Faith much about his school experience, but then again, it wasn’t much to write home about. He showed up, did what he needed to do, and socialised a little. Enough that people knew who he was, but that was a given in a small place like Wabang.
He kept to himself – school wasn’t for everyone. When Rebecca, Perry’s wife, went missing during his senior year, everyone started looking at him differently. They’d whisper about her disappearance and throw looks of pity his way.
Of course, when it came out a few years later that Perry had been responsible for her disappearance and subsequent murder, the looks of pity turned into looks of disgust. Then word got around that Royal had helped him cover it up.
Rhett had been dealing with a lot at that time. His daughters had just turned one, he was at the crux of his career in bull riding, and he was winning every event he had. The shit with his family had thrown a spanner in the works and he’d had a particularly bad ride one night, made worse by the news that the girls’ mom had been involved in a car accident…he was a mess. Barely scraping the bottom of the barrel to hold his shit together, but assuming that his daughters had been in the wreck too.
Cecelia had watched from the stand as Rhett took the call. She knew something horrible had happened, so had told Amy to run to the truck and get it started, she’d grab Rhett. He hadn’t even thought that his mom would give a shit, so when she’d grabbed him and told him to pull it together until he had all the information, he understood a little bit more about how she was dealing with everything.
Cece knew how to prioritise. She had gone through hell and back with Perry and Royal, but Rhett needed her. He’d never ask for her help, so if she told him how things were going to work, he’d listen. She pulled herself together in a moment where their worlds had fallen apart, but the punches kept coming. She helped him keep a steady head until they had all the information.
Rhett had never been more grateful, but it took him years to properly understand that was what a parent did. That was what Royal had done for Perry, in their own fucked up way. Cece had been the rock that Rhett needed in a very difficult time, and he had no idea. Still a kid himself, trying to juggle his sister in law’s murder, his career, and becoming a parent, he was barely keeping his head above water.
His daughters had been left with a friend of their biological mother, Sally, who’d been drunk and gone out to get more alcohol. She’d caused a huge crash and her car had gone through the barrier on the bridge. The officer said it would’ve been over very quickly, but they couldn’t locate the babies after finding empty car seats.
Rhett had called everyone he knew trying to find his daughters. Eventually, one of the nurses answered the phone belonging to Sally and passed it to Rhett. He’d sobbed in relief that someone was with them – that they were okay, and had to break the news that Sally had died.
They’d been through a lot in their short lives, but he did everything he could to make sure they had the best upbringing they could. Giving up his dream to become a professional bull rider and prioritising their happiness over his own.
It was how he ended up meeting Faith, by his daughters insisting he start dating. They weren’t oblivious to their friends’ parents gossiping about their dad. They played like they never heard them and ignored their prying questions until they had enough information gathered to sit him down and give him a presentation. It contained the type of woman they thought he’d like, the kind of dates they could go on, and Rhett had been shocked. He’d kind of expected, from their prior questioning, that they wanted him to start dating. He never anticipated they’d take matters into their own hands, however.
They’d been his biggest supporters when Faith started coming around more. They adored her, and she adored them. She even made it known to Rhett that they didn’t have to have one on one dates all the time, and that they were part of his life. She wanted to get to know them better too. That kind of effort was what the other women lacked – they only wanted one night of fun, and he was well over that part of his life.
The effort was so attractive to him, that he wasn’t surprised he fell head over heels in love with her. He realised it one morning when Faith hadn’t left for work early, and had instead made them all breakfast and was helping do the girls’ hair. He could see his little family was so happy and whole, having found their missing piece.
His point was proved when the girls sat them both down a couple weeks ago and gave them another presentation on why Faith should be their mom officially and marry their dad, but also give them more siblings. Faith had asked him later that night if he’d let her finish her study first before they tried to expand their family. Her exact words were, “give me a year and then I’ll let you put a baby in me.”
Rhett had never heard anything so sexy.
He could wait a year. He’d already waited long enough to find her, so a year to let her finish her study was nothing. Plus, she was excited as he was to grow their family. That knowledge alone was more than enough reassurance that she wasn’t going anywhere.
Rhett showed Faith around the school. Showing her his favourite places to hide when he had a class that he wasn’t interested in a subject. Eventually, they made their way to the gymnasium. He expected they’d be the most dressed up, but it turned out they fit right in. He recognised a few people, some of the guys still wearing their hat or boots.
“You want a drink?” He asked Faith, feeling her squeeze his hand as she smiled at him.
“Sounds good.”
They quickly got themselves some drinks, mingling with a few people who were excited to see Rhett. He introduced them to Faith and she happily chatted away to them. Loving getting to know everyone, and sharing what she did for work and how they met.
Everyone Faith spoke to was lovely, but it was exhausting work. She asked Rhett a couple times to get her a fresh drink, earning a kiss on the cheek before he dutifully obliged, grateful for the brief intermission it gave him. Talking himself up wasn’t something he liked to do, but he was proud of how far he’d come from being that young kid. Faith sang his praises whenever she could, enjoying the chance to brag. She loved her little family and she wanted everyone to know.
As the night went on and more drinks were consumed, they’d been pulled in for a few photos with some of Rhett’s old friends. Faith was glad to see Rhett had loosened up a bit and was enjoying himself. Sending smiles her way or drawing her near to steal a kiss.
PDA wasn’t typically his thing. She didn’t mind at all because they were usually accompanied by their kids, but she loved seeing this side of him. This man was so proud to call her his girl that he made sure everyone knew it. He told everyone she was studying to be a Social Worker, specialising with youths. She loved teaching swimming, “that’s how we met, you know,” and she was a huge part of the community.
He didn’t miss the way her look had changed from adoring to sultry, like she’d have her way with him right there if he didn’t shut up soon. She turned the lull in conversation in her favour, excusing herself to the bathroom. Rhett would find her, he always did.
“You should come to the new bar in town.” Rhett barely registers who’s talking, nodding in agreement. Too preoccupied with Faith and where she’d disappeared to for him to care about anything else.
She wanted him, and he wanted her just as badly.
He found himself asking where it was. Wabang was familiar in some aspects, but new developers meant buildings had been built on land he knew used to belong to other families. With the information barely stored, he says they’ll be there. Excusing himself with a polite nod of his head as he exited the gymnasium.
He bypassed the bathroom with a few people standing outside, hearing the faint click of her heels as he took a left and heard the heavy doors to the chapel open. The chapel was a small room, enough chairs for a class to attend the morning Mass that used to be held on Wednesday’s before class.
He found Faith admiring the stained glass behind the altar, making sure to click the door shut behind him. She cast a look over her shoulder, smiling bashfully.
“Y’sure picked a hell of a room for this rendezvous, Lil Lady,” Rhett said, slowly making his way down the aisle between the rows of chairs.
“Forgive me, Father, for I’m about to sin,” Faith replied as he stopped in front of her, tilting her chin up with his forefinger.
“Thought we would’ve left by now so I didn’t bring a condom,” he confessed, thumb lightly stroking her cheek.
“What if we just…didn’t use condoms anymore?” She suggested, running her hands up his chest. “I want a baby with you, Rhett. I don’t want to wait for our family to grow.”
He groaned as he slid his hand into her hair, cupping the base of her skull and kissing her with a fiery tenacity that had her knees weak. She slid her arms around his neck, fisting his hair as his hands slid down her body. Squeezing her breasts, gripping her hips and groping her ass.
“Fuck, y’sure about this?” He asked breathlessly, eyes finding hers as he rested their foreheads together. He wanted it more than anything. He wanted her, their family, this little life they’d perfectly curated.
Faith knew she’d asked for more time and that now she was taking it back. She was scrapping the timeline they’d agreed on. It was huge, but Rhett and his daughters had given him something she’d never known she was missing. A family. Community. People to fuss over and adore with her entire being. People who had welcomed her with open arms, despite her past, because they wanted her to be part of their future. They saw her in their future. More than anything, she wanted a future. She finally saw what her future held, and that was being a mom to her boyfriend’s adorable twin daughters and expanding their little family. Being a loving girlfriend, and eventually wife, to a man who’d proved time and time again that she was worth the effort.
“I want everything with you, Rhett Abbott. I’ve never been more sure about anything in my life,” she confessed just as breathlessly. He dipped his head to pepper kisses down her neck and over her collarbone, tugging one of her breasts free from her dress and wrapping his mouth
around her pebbled nipple. “Rhett, fuck me.”
She roughly palmed him over his trousers, fingers trying to free him from his confines. Eventually popping the button and reaching into his pants to wrap her hand around his growing length.
“Fuck,” he groaned against her chest, hitching her dress up around her waist. Fingers seeking her warm, wet centre. “Y’ haven’t worn panties all night?”
“Nuh uh,” she mumbled, drawing his head back for another searing kiss. She moaned as his fingers sought her swollen clit, fingers delving into her heat as she swiped her thumb across the tip of his cock to elicit the same sound from him. “Need you, Rhett, please.”
“G’na put a baby in you,” he growled, backing her up to the wall where she had previously been admiring the stained glass. “Fuck, Faith.”
She keened at his touch, whining as he removed his fingers from her cunt and replaced them with the tip of his cock. “Put a baby in me, Rhett.”
His lips claimed hers as he hitched her leg up around his waist and sunk himself into her. Groaning as he felt her tight, slick pussy stretch and relax around him. His tongue slipping into her mouth, tasting the wine she’d been drinking and swallowing her moans as he found his rhythm.
Faith gasped as he bit down on her lip, her hands tightening in his hair. “Fuck,” she groaned, his fingers seeking her clit. “Feels so fucking good, Daddy.”
“Yeah, y’ like that Daddy’s gonna fuck a baby into ya, hm?” He said, lips and teeth nipping at her neck. “Fill you with my seed? Fuck, such a needy lil pussy. Grippin’ me s’tight.” He groaned as he felt her clench down around him, her breathy symphony of moans like music to his ears.
“Can I cum on your cock, Daddy?”
He stuttered out a “yes,” losing himself in the feeling of her body. The way she chanted his name like a prayer, begging for him to cum inside her. Put a baby in her. Hips stuttering as his own high caught up to him and crashed into him like a bull in a china shop. Bottoming out as he reached absolution, not a care in the world as they defiled a holy sanctuary, wrapped totally in and of themselves.
He kissed her as they came down from their highs, savouring the taste of her lips. The feeling of utter euphoria. The way she sighed and tugged at his hair as his mouth slowly devoured hers. Languidly, breathlessly.
Tumblr media
Faith felt exhilarated as they walked hand in hand back to the gymnasium. Rhett had tried to help her tame her hair as much as they could, but he couldn’t do much for the new hickies adorning her neck. Luckily her hair hid most of the small bruises, but she still felt like they were visible.
They were planning on leaving, heading home to continue what they’d started in the chapel, then Rhett mentioned a new bar they’d been invited to. He’d blindly agreed, promising he’d make it up to her later if they just went for one drink. Faith knew he was enjoying himself, even if he didn’t admit it out loud. She could see it in the way he carried himself. Confident yet relaxed. It suited him.
They headed out to the truck, promising a few people they’d been talking to that they’d stop by for a few drinks, if not to check the place out. Rhett grabbed the backpack from the bed of the truck, previously secured into the netting near the cab, and started to change right there in the parking lot.
“Rhett Abbott, did you expect to have a good time tonight?” Faith asked him, taking hold of his jacket and folding it neatly.
“I expected we’d be overdressed,” he replied, shooting her a wink as he pulled his boots off and changed from his grey trousers into a familiar pair of jeans. “There’s stuff for you in there, too. No panties, ‘m afraid.”
Faith laughed at the cheeky glint to his eye, leaning forward to press a kiss to his cheek. She handed him his belt from the bag, climbing into the truck before taking her heels off and attempting to shimmy into a pair of her own jeans. By the time Rhett slid into the driver’s seat, she’d managed to change into a tee and donned a bra underneath, her dress now stuffed into the bag. Slipping her feet into some socks and a pair of cowboy boots Rhett had gifted her earlier in the year for her birthday.
Faith appreciated being able to change. The heels had started hurting her feet, and the dress was gorgeous, but she felt more confident in jeans.
It was rare that Rhett dressed up, and she’d enjoyed the new look for as long as he’d worn it. She’d be the first to admit that she missed his soft jeans and stetson, happy to discover that the familiar hat had found its way back atop of his head. Watching him with a smile on her face as they drove to the bar.
They arrived and made their way inside, barely any time to wonder if it was the right place when a few guys hollered for them both. Waving them over, Rhett encouraged Faith to go while he grabbed them a couple of drinks.
“Glad you both made it!” Adam said with a grin.
“Thanks for inviting us,” Faith responded in kind, slipping into the booth next to Adam’s wife, Erin, who happily made room.
“I’m just glad I’m not the only woman here anymore,” she joked. “The other wives don’t come out much. Too busy at home with the kids.”
Faith nodded in understanding. “Do you and Adam have any kids?”
“Three. Youngest is ten,” she replied with a smile. “You?”
“We only have Rhett’s two at the moment,” Faith said. “They sat us down and gave us a ‘we want siblings’ presentation.”
Erin threw her head back in laughter. Faith grinned as she caught Rhett’s eye, making his way through the crowd to their table with a couple of drinks.
“How old are they?”
“Just turned nine,” Rhett answered, wearing a small smile. “Little demons.”
“Do you have any pictures of them?” Erin asked.
Rhett placed a drink in front of Faith before handing over his phone. Faith unlocked it and opened his pictures, swiping through to show Erin.
“They have Rhett’s scowl,” Faith said fondly, searching for the photo she’d sent him of the three of them sitting in silence on the sofa one night. They’d been pouting about not being allowed to have their own phones, but Rhett said they were too young. They’d tried to ask Faith, but she also told them ‘no’. It ended up being a rather quiet night, the girls going to bed early after dinner, leaving Rhett and Faith to watch a movie by themselves.
Erin showed a few pictures of her own kids, two sons and a daughter. Faith enjoyed the conversation while Rhett chatted shit with a few of the guys, occasionally sparing Faith a glance and always delighted to see her enjoying herself.
He kept an eye on her as she and Erin wandered up to the bar to get everyone some more drinks.
“Do you miss it?” Cory asked Rhett.
“What’s that?” He’d missed most of the conversation, taking a sip of his beer.
Cory asked again, “bull ridin’,”
Rhett gave a shrug. “Sometimes,” he admitted. “Don’t regret givin’ it up since it meant I could spend more time with m’ daughters.”
“He had a boys night with some of the other dad’s and I got sent a video of him ridin’ a mechanical bull at the bar,” Faith chimes in, passing out a few beers to the guys. “Never saw him on a real bull, but it looked like he’s still got it.”
There were a few laughs at her words before someone pointed out that there was a mechanical bull here. Rhett quickly shut down any ideas anyone had about him getting on, despite the protests and words of encouragement thrown his way. He was adamant that was a one time drunken thing he’d done, purely to prove he didn’t just like the cowboy aesthetic.
Faith had been curious about attempting to ride a mechanical bull at least once in her life. She’d been too drunk at her friend’s birthday when they’d specifically gone to a bar so she could ride one, and after Rhett had gotten on the bull at that same bar, she’d asked him questions. He’d made it look so easy, and sure it came down to years of practice riding actual bulls at the rodeo, but he’d indulged her questions. Given her pointers that she’d stored away for when she actually got the chance to get on one.
“You should do it,” Rhett told her quietly.
He knew she’d gone quiet for a reason, catching her deep in thought while everyone was trying to convince him instead. She leant into him, letting him press a kiss to her temple.
“Hm, yeah?” She replied, not entirely convinced.
Rhett hummed in response. “Yeah. Y’ want to, right?” She nodded, so he continued. “Then do it.”
“Okay,” she agreed softly.
“C’mon,” he encouraged her. “Faith’s gonna ride the bull!”
The group they were with cheered, making their way to where the bull was set up, while Adam asked one of the staff if they could get it started. Pointing over at Faith to show who wanted a turn. Rhett walked her up to the bull, giving her a reassuring kiss.
“Y’ got this, baby,” he told her. “Remember what I taught ya?”
She nodded as he lifted her up and got her set up on the bull. “Hold on tight, squeeze those thighs,” she recounted for him. “Don’t fight it.”
Rhett grinned. “That’s my girl. Give ‘em hell, Lil Lady.”
He wandered back to their group and she made sure she was holding on tight before nodding at the staff member who was in charge of the machine. He switched the bull on and heard the cheers of the crowd, but her focus was on staying up. Making sure she didn’t fight the jerky motions but instead went with it. Throwing her hand up for balance, grinning as she whipped around and used her legs to stay on.
She couldn’t tell you if time went faster or slower while up there, but she understood the feeling Rhett had done his best to describe. The way the crowd seemed to electrify you while you were up there. It was addictive.
The bull slowly came to a stop and she exhaled heavily, basking in the uproar of the crowd as Rhett strode towards her. Planting his hand on her head as he helped her off the bull, stealing a kiss that took her breath away.
“That was th’ sexiest fucken thing I’ve ever seen,” he told her breathlessly, making a point to squeeze her ass and bring her body closer as he went in for another kiss.
Tumblr media
They didn’t stick around long. Enough to have another drink and share the videos some people had taken of Faith. Enough to know that Rhett was more wound up than she initially thought. Enough to know that he wasn’t the only one aroused by her performance – being hit on by no less than three guys who hadn’t gotten the hint that she was taken. That she was Rhett Abbott’s girl.
Rhett’s old school friends knew him to be a bit of a hot head. Throw punches first, ask questions later. They’d kept an eye on him as he sipped his beer and watched Faith shoot them down, wondering how often this happened for him to seem unbothered by it.
In truth, Rhett was bothered by it. Every time it happened, to be exact. He knew his girlfriend was young and gorgeous. He also knew that he was the one who took her home every night. He was the one she loved and he found comfort in that.
He had trust…he had Faith.
Faith watched him pull the truck into the west paddock instead of following the dirt road up to the house. She didn’t make a comment about it, but wondered what he had planned.
The Abbott ranch had gone through some changes over the years. Rhett regretted not sticking around to help tend to the cattle and maintain the property, but Cece had done what she’d needed to do. She’d downsized the amount of land they owned, mostly to pay off the legal fees of Perry and Royal, and help keep her and Amy afloat. Another chunk was sold to developers who had yet to do anything with it, but Cece and Amy had transformed the ranch into a horse sanctuary. They trained and broke in horses, as well as ran camps during the school breaks. They’d done well for themselves and Rhett couldn’t be prouder of them – he just wished he could’ve been more help.
The first time he’d brought Faith home to meet his Ma was the first time he’d actually seen the work Cece and Amy had put into the ranch. They’d been overjoyed to give them a full tour, even though Rhett heard stories about it from Hannah and TJ. Faith had helped him put his feelings into perspective about everything, that he wasn’t letting his mother and niece down by prioritising his daughters. Family was about compromise and they all had to make sacrifices in order to get to where they were today, not just him.
“If Cece doesn’t hold a grudge, neither should you. The past is the past, and you can only work on mending your relationships so they’re stronger in the future,” she’d told him.
She’d been right. He’d slowly talked all the past shit out with Cece and they were growing closer again. Things would never be how they were before shit went down, but it was several steps in the right direction. They weren’t the same people anymore. Rhett was beginning to realise that more and more, and accepting that change was huge for him.
Faith stayed in the cab of the truck while Rhett set up the back. He’d made sure they had pillows and blankets and had even bought an air mattress to lie on. He knew how much Faith loved stargazing and camping, and while they weren’t in a tent, he hoped it would suffice.
She heard him jump off the back of the truck and looked out her window as he opened her door.
“What are you planning?” She asked with a slight teasing in her tone.
“Camping,” he replied. “In a sense. C’mon.”
Faith couldn’t keep the grin from her face as Rhett helped her up into the bed of the truck, taking her boots off before she collapsed onto the makeshift bed. Rhett joined her a moment later, peppering her face with soft kisses as she laughed breathily.
“What’s the occasion?”
“Just ‘cause I love you,” he said simply. “Can’t I do something nice for my girl every now an’ then?”
Faith hummed as she pressed her lips to his, combing her fingers through his hair. “Here I was thinking it was because you weren’t finished watching me ride,” she teased.
He easily rolled them over so she was on top of him, straddling his waist. Her hands resting on his chest, his on her thighs.
“I’ll never get enough of watching y’ ride,” he said, rolling his hips so she could feel the swell of his arousal.
“Yeah?” She mewled, rolling her own hips against his. “Y’ want me to ride you, Handsome Cowboy?”
“Fuck yeah I do, Lil Lady,” he replied with a grin. “First, I want y’ to ride m’ face.”
Faith’s breath hitched as Rhett placed his hands on her inner thighs and effortlessly moved her so she was sitting on his chest. Reaching down, she twirled some of his hair around her finger. “Can anyone see us out here?”
“Not unless they’ve got binoculars,” he assured her. “Y’ gonna be a good girl and ride Daddy’s face?”
Faith was quick, it always stunned Rhett how eager she was for him. The first one to get naked. The first one to go down – it turned her on more than receiving, though she never said ‘no’ when he buried his face in her cunt and drew orgasm after orgasm from her. He shouldn’t have been surprised that she’d be more than willing to ride his face, yet he sensed her hesitation as she hovered just above his lips.
“I said sit on my face, Faith,” he growled, forcing her down the rest of the way until his mouth was covered. Tongue laying flat against her slick pussy.
She moaned as he guided her hips, helping her find a rhythm that drove her wild. Hands braced on the roof of the truck cab and she began riding his face with reckless abandon. Gasping and moaning as he smacked her ass or groped her chest. Moaning against her core as her clit brushed against his nose.
“Fuck,” she groaned, her moans growing louder and more frequent. The pitch changing as she sought her orgasm. “RhettRhettRhett,” she chanted, succumbing to the bliss that erupted in her stomach and spread like shockwaves throughout her entirety.
Rhett lapped and savoured the taste of Faith on his tongue. Planting a firm kiss to her cunt before sucking a bruise into her inner thigh.
“That’s my girl,” he praised, grinning up at her with her arousal glistening in the moonlight on his chin.
“Wanna ride your cock, Daddy,” she panted breathlessly. “Want you to cum inside me again.”
Rhett groaned at her words, hands groping her hips. “Y’ really want Daddy t’ put a baby in ya, hm?”
Faith nodded, bottom lip captured between her teeth as she gazed down at him. “Wanna ride you ‘til you knock me up, Daddy.”
Rhett was more than willing to oblige, quickly undressing and pulling Faith back into his lap. She slid her arms up his chest, fingers skimming over his tattoos – one on his ribs, the bull on his chest to the tiny footprints in the shape of a heart over his heart. He smiled as he cupped her face, pressing his lips to hers.
Faith reached between their bodies, gripping his cock and positioning his tip at her entrance. Rhett’s hands were on her hips as she slowly sank down on his length, gasping at the stretch and welcoming the familiarity.
“Fill me so good, Daddy,” she praised, wiggling her hips a little to make Rhett groan. It was guttural and sent shivers down her spine. “So deep inside me.”
“Y’ look beautiful,” he told her, raising a hand to cup her face and draw her head down for a kiss.
Faith indulged him for a bit, his cock nestled snugly inside her as she draped herself over him. Chests flush together and his arms wrapped around her back, holding her even closer. Her arms tucked around his head, small moans slipping past their lips.
Rhett’s hands slid down to her ass, fingers gripping the supple flesh and lifting her slightly. Faith groaned and wiggled her hips, sinking back down on him as she broke their kiss.
“Use your words if you want me to start riding you, Handsome Cowboy,” she told him, hands braced on his shoulders as she gave him a sultry smile.
“Need y’ t’start ridin’ me, Lil Lady,” he told her breathlessly. “Y’ feel so good. Need more.”
Faith started rolling her hips, watching the pleasure in his face as she clenched her core and tightened around him. Rising off him slightly before taking him deep again and repeating the motion. Finding a steady rhythm as his hands slid up her body. Rough fingertips brushing against her sensitive nipples, pinching them harshly before taking them in his hands and massaging them gently.
He knew Faith liked a little pain with her pleasure. Knew she was receptive to it. He watched the way her face contorted with the harsh pinch, felt the way she tightened around his cock. He groaned as she threw her head back, giving herself over to the pleasure.
Rhett braced his feet, digging his heels into the soft air mattress as he started meeting her thrusts. Her short, sharp gasps filled his ears. Hand slipping on his chest to his neck.
“That’s it,” Rhett goaded her. “Squeeze m’ neck. Fuck.”
Faith groaned at his words but did as he asked, squeezing his neck and watching a delirious grin form on his face. “I’m gonna cum.” She panted, the coil in her abdomen moments away from snapping. “Feel s’good, Daddy. FuckFuckFuck.”
Rhett pinched her nipples once again, watching her throw her head back as her body tightened and spasmed. Dropping his hands to her hips, he kept her upright. Fucking her through her orgasm, flipping her onto her back and hooking her legs over his shoulders as he drove into her.
“S’good to me,” she praised him, stroking his cheek as he braced himself on his forearms, lips mashing together in a desperate kiss as he reached his own orgasm. “Want all your cum inside me, Daddy. Fill me up real good. Show me how much you wanna knock me up.”
“Fuck, Faith,” he panted, dropping his head to her shoulder. Cock twitching and spilling inside her, her cunt milking his orgasm from him. “Fuck.”
“Just like that, Daddy,” she continued, running her hand through his hair.
He dropped her legs from his shoulders, bodies still connected as he peppered kisses over her neck and chest. Nipping and sucking small bruises into her heated skin.
“Love you s’much, Lil Lady,” he murmured against her skin.
“Love you more, Handsome Cowboy.”

Her skin felt burning hot beneath his hand as he trailed it down, down, down her side. Rough fingertips slipping over yellow lace until they came to a halt on her hip. Rhett gently guided her hips to rock against his thigh once more, barely needing to apply pressure as she succumbed to the dripping need between her legs. He could feel a wet patch already forming on his jeans.
Tessa broke away from his desperate, consuming kiss with a whimper, fingers tangling in his hair. She looked so damn pretty in the low hotel room light. Light brown hair like burnt honey tossed messily over one shoulder. Blue eyes hooded and pink lips swollen from too many kisses parted and wet. Rhett leaned back against the headboard and just watched her for a moment. Those muscles in her abdomen rolling and contracting as she moved her hips against his leg all on her own. Just like riding a raging bull. God, he wished he hadn’t thrown his hat off at the door. That too big stetson sitting on her pretty head would be a sight right then.
God, he missed her. A month was too long. But they had different commitments, different rodeos. And they always knew they would end up together again somewhere down the line.
Somehow they always did.
His other hand slid up her thigh to squeeze the forgiving but hardened flesh tightly. “That’s it, keep goin’, sunshine.”
She was getting shy on him now. Leaning into his chest with her face pressed into his collar. No matter how many times they hooked up, Tessa still liked to hide from him. Hold back those noises. Not let him see. But Rhett loved coaxing her out of that shell. Making her fall apart over and over until all her inhibitions were down and she could just be Tessa. Not the famous, million-dollar barrel racer. Just the girl from Wabang, Wyoming getting her world wrecked by the boy she went to high school with.
So, picking up on her rhythm, Rhett pressed his thigh up into her at just the right time to make her grind down just that bit more pleasurable. And he revelled in the heavy moan that she let slip into the crook of his neck.
“Sound so pretty, sunny, tha’s a good girl.”
Involuntarily, her back arched, pushing her chest into his as a breathless oh slipped past her lips. Sometimes she hated how Rhett could climb the walls of her and poke at her tender center. Her most vulnerable parts. But really, it was her own fault for letting him in in the first place. He was a piece of home, a comfort, a release…One that she had missed terribly for the past four weeks. Their unspoken agreement when they were in the same city was one she didn’t want to break. One she didn’t want to lose because it wouldn’t just be the piece of home, the comfort, or the release she lost. It would be Rhett.
Who, despite the growing hardness in his jeans she could feel against her leg, didn’t push it. Didn’t even move besides the hand on her hip and thigh and his leg pressed into her. Who, despite the mutual benefit of their agreement, always put her pleasure first. Always made sure she fell apart as many times as she could take. Until there was nothing left in her head besides him and him only.
So, heart racing in her chest, she reached between them and cupped him through his jeans. Feeling the hard outline of him beneath the rough denim, long and thick and overwhelming.
Rhett’s grunt quickly turned into a low moan right in her ear, his hips bucking up into her hand. Then he shook his head with a kiss to her hair. “Don’worry’bout me, lemme help you.”
She whined high in her throat, moved against his thigh faster, burrowed into his chest further. But she can’t bring herself to retract her hand. Mostly out of embarrassment that her tactic to get him to finally fuck her didn’t work. But also because the feeling of him was grounding. This physical thing that showed he wanted her too.
But, God, she was getting impatient. She wanted him. Had craved the feeling of him stretching her out and making her his for nearly a month. That feeling of her just being Tessa Abernathy, and him just being Rhett Abbott, two kids from Wabang trying to find some sense of home in one another. Maybe even some sense of love.
Tessa, of course, didn’t know how to articulate any of that. Let alone that she just wanted him to press her down into the mattress and make her forget her own name already. Instead, all that came out was insistent whining into his chest. Her hips working against him harder, her hands pawing at his bare, broad shoulders.
She felt those same shoulders rumble with a chuckle. “Whaddaya want, sunny? Come on now.”
Threading his fingers into her hair, he pulled lightly and she went without complain, letting him look into her blown pupils with raised brows. Her hips slow to the occasional cant against the large wet mark in his jeans. After a minute of looking at him, wetting her lips and trying to find the words she finally whispered out:
“Wan — Want you.”
As her fingers reflexively squeezed around his bulge, making him groan. Then he captured her lips in a searing kiss, tongue fighting to lick inside her mouth and teeth nipping at her bottom lip. For a moment, she thought she was going to get what she wanted. But then his hand left her hair and trailed back down to her hip, gently urging her with a push and a tug to get her going again.
“Soak my thigh like a good girl,” he grumbled against her parted lips. “‘N’ll give ya what ya want.”
A half-frustrated groan slipped past her lips.
Rhett grinned. “What? Don’wanna be my good girl anymore, sunshine?”
“Wanna be good,” she whispered back, fingers pushing back into his hair she cut in a hotel bathroom back in Texas.
He smirked again as he pecked her lips, moved her hip a little harder.
“Then show me how much ya missed me.”
It was like a flip got switched. With a moan and a tug of his hair, she was reclaiming his lips. Possessive and overwhelming but in the best way possible. Rhett whined softly as her tongue slipped past his lips to taste whiskey and chewing tobacco. Her body moved harder, faster. It really was like she was riding a bull. Moving and rolling with every buck. Taking it all in stride. Even when he surprised her by trailing kisses down her neck and sucking at her hardened nipples through the lace of her bralette.
“Rhett,” she breathed, just on the edge, just a little more.
“Come on, sunny baby, give it t’me,” he panted back, warm breath enveloping her breast.
The way she gasped his name as she came had him twitching in her hand still tight as a vice around him. Then, like she weighed almost nothing, he was lifting her from his lap and settling her onto her back on the soft sheets. Gone were the rough motel thread counts they rolled around in when they both first started out on the circuit. Now, they were in a five-star hotel with a view. Now, the sheets were silken and expensive and there wasn’t a slot for a quarter to make the mattress vibrate (a feature Rhett sometimes missed).
Rhett undid his belt buckle, a big one from his latest win in Montana, and pushed his jeans and boxers far enough down for his cock to spring free. Angry and red and dripping precum. He felt ready to burst as he leaned back over her still panting form, his seams on their last threads with his hands on either side of her head.
“Did so good, sunshine, my sweet baby girl,” he muttered as he pressed kisses all over her face. She only hummed in reply, a happy sort of sound that made him grin against her cheek. “Wanna keep goin’?”
“Uh-huh, please,” she whimpered back, already squirming.
“Well, whaddaya want?” he teased, notching himself against her clothed entrance. “Come on, use y’r words.”
He couldn’t help but love to tease her on occasion. It made her bashful. Made her cheeks pink to something like cotton-candy in the low light. Even as she wriggled her hips to get him to do what she wanted and her teeth came down hard against her bottom lip. He could see the gears turning behind those bright blue eyes. The words she so desperately wanted to say but couldn’t bring herself to. With his fingers curling into those ridiculous silk sheets, he rolled his hips against her. Watched as her mouth dropped open and her eyelids fell nearly closed.
A sight he thought about almost every night while she was away from him.
He barely even started the next flex forward of his hips before she squeaked out, “Want you inside me — please!”
He couldn't resist that, no matter how much he wanted to keep teasing her. As he moved her panties to the side, he dropped his forehead to hers, and pressed his lips wherever they could reach. Then he pressed in slowly, letting out a deep, guttural groan at the feeling of her walls fluttering in a desperate attempt to accommodate him.
“Fuck, y’re tight,” he huffed as he paused, trying not to blow his load right then and there with the way she was squeezing him.
Tessa arched her back, brow furrowed as she looked down to where they met then back up to his face. “It-It’s been a month, bubs.”
“What? Didn’have anybody t’tide ya over?”
They both knew the answer to that. They both didn’t want to think about the implications of it right then either.
Rhett stilled again once he was sheathed to the hilt. Just feeling her pulse around him, warm and tight and just what he had been wanting. Listening to her panting where he had her caged beneath him. Struggling to take him. Some whine got caught in her throat as she pawed at his chest.
“Big,” she gasped sharply.
It made him shudder, arms buckling with his lips breathing heavy against her temple. “I know, baby, s’okay. You c’n take it. Know you can.”
She whined again as he tilted his hips and ground them into her clit. Trying to help, trying to ease the ache. She knew that. But right then, all she could truly think about was just how big Rhett Abbott was. How did she forget that nearly every single time? How he filled every available inch of space inside her, pressed against all the proper places, until she could feel him in her guts. How those broad shoulders and chest filled her entire view with her below him. Everywhere. All the time. Everything was him. And that meant everything was good.
“M-Move,” she was finally able to whisper as she hooked her calves over his hips. “Please.”
The small whine that punched out of him on his first draw back and push in makes her head spin. He moved slow but firm, moving in inches that felt like so much more to her. The once cool metal of his belt buckle pressed against her thigh now felt burning hot — a brand of his own making.
“Doin’ so good, sunshine, takin’ me so deep,” he praised as he mouthed at her cheek and jaw.
“R-Rhett,” she whimpered, feeling tears prick at the backs of her eyes as he tilted his hips just right and hit that spot only he had ever been able to find. “Oh, f-fuck, right there. Don’stop.”
“Can you cum f’me again, sunny? Be my good girl?” he asked, panting and stuttering, pace no longer slow but hard and fast, unable to control himself.
Tessa barely managed to sob out a yes. Tears streaming down her cheeks that part of her doesn’t know why they have appeared. Was it because it just felt so good? Was it because it was finally them together again at last? Was it because she already knew he was going to be gone in two weeks time? What she did know, what she did understand, is that when he wrapped one big hand around both her wrists and pushed her arms up the bed, she was a goner. Sobbing and moaning and sloppily trying to meet him thrust for thrust. When she reached that high, she crashed into it hard with a cry and an arch of her back and Rhett’s sweaty hair sticking to her neck.
She barely registered the warmth flooding her as Rhett gave his last few thrusts. And then a few more just because he liked when it hurt. When he was edged towards that overstimulation that made his eyes water. She always wondered if he did that with everyone he slept with or just her. But when he tried to pull out and she tightened around him, he hissed and whined and let go of her wrists to pound his fist into the mattress.
“Uhn, Tess, t-too much,” he grumbled breathily.
“Wan’you t’stay,” she said, tongue feeling too big for her mouth.
Still breathing heavy, Rhett flashed her a small smile. “Wanna keep me warm?”
“Uh-huh,” she replied, pushing his hair back behind his ear from where it had fallen across his face. “Jus’for a minute. Please?”
They both knew the answer. They both didn’t want to think about the implications of it.
With some slight manuevering and a few more noises from Rhett, he was flat on his back and she was straddling his hips. Curled up on his chest, listening to the slowing beat of his heart. A piece of home. Comfort. Release…
Happiness. Wholeness. Love.

Millie, would love Rhett and a nerdy!reader kissing for the first time after Rhett realizes she had a huge crush on him in high school
Thanks for the slumber party!
when you saw Rhett at the bar on your third night back in Wabang, you were surprised. not surprised that he was there, at the bar, but surprised that he had aged like a fine wine. cowboy hat intact, body sinewy and tanned from ranch work, scruff across his cheeks.
keen to just smile at him and wave across the room at your longest crush, you were surprised when he suddenly caught your gaze and did a double-take.
abandoning Perry altogether, Rhett monied across the room, brows furrowed and lips pulled into a lazy smile.
"hey, you!" he said, chipper as ever. "god, I ain't seen you in years! how you been, honey?"
and then he was pulling you into a flannel-scented hug, overwhelming you entirely.
it wasn't even that he was mean to you in high school. but you were the kind of girl who studied in the library, sat at the front of the class, and got early acceptance letters from a handful of colleges. Rhett, on the other hand, was less studious than you were. the kinda boy that smoked in the courtyard and lounged in the back of class, only engaging when it was forced out of him.
"I'm-i'm good! you?" you asked, grinning, trying to control your rapid heartbeat.
Rhett pulled back and drank you in, your glittering eyes and your manicured nails and those glasses that he's always liked perched on your nose.
"better now," he told you. "god, what's it been? like, five-six years?"
still awestruck, you nod.
"somethin' like that."
Rhett chewed his lip for a moment, glancing back over at where he left Perry standing.
"you wanna drink with me?" he asks. "c'mon. my treat?"
the two of you have been dancing around it all night long.
sitting across from each other in this smoky bar, more than a few beers shared between the two of you, leaning in close to each other because the crowd's getting rowdier (but really because you can't get enough of that deeply masculine scent that is thick on his pulse points and he keeps getting butterflies when he gets a waft of your shampoo).
as the night has dragged on, Rhett's cheeks rosier than ever and your laugh growing louder, Rhett finds himself unable to tear his gaze away from your lips. they're so beautiful--wet and painted with a lipstick that's steadily been wearing off all night, molding around your teeth as you beam at him.
"how'd I miss you in high school?" he asks, brows furrowed.
you nearly choke on your beer, brows furrowing. resting the glass on the table, you tilt your head at him.
"what d'you mean?" you ask, voice soft. "you didn't miss me in high school. we had algebra together!"
Rhett nods, leaning back against the booth and crossing his arms.
"I's too busy passin' notes in algebra," Rhett admits somewhat coyly, scratching the back of his neck. "didn't learn anythin'."
"on the contrary, I never passed notes in algebra," you smile softly. "and I sure didn't miss you, Rhett."
Rhett's brows flick upwards in surprise. you're a bit embarrassed at this fact--but only for a moment. suddenly, Rhett is gathering one of the white napkins on the table and plucking one of the little pencils that's been forgotten there after trivia night.
"what're you doin'?" you ask, nose wrinkled in amusement.
"writin' you a note," he says. he glances up at you, catches your gaze on the napkin. protectively, he wraps an arm around it and raises his brows at you. "no peekin'."
"sorry," you laugh, flushing.
he writes for only a few moments, gazing down at his scrawl before he slides the napkin face-down across the table. then he leans back, swallows hard, and watches you carefully.
you're not sure what to expect, really. maybe his number. maybe just a simple hi. but when you turn the napkin over, it nearly knocks the breath out of your lungs.
can I kiss you?
-Rhett
he watches you read it with his lip tucked between his teeth. he's a little fuzzy around the edges, a little drunk on beer and a lot drunk on you. but then you're looking back up at him, pupils blown, smile dying.
"yeah," you say, voice thin.
he moves first, leaning forward across the table, cupping your cheek with a rough hand. every breath you breathe fans out across his bottom lip and he shivers, nuzzling his nose against yours.
and honestly, you've dreamed of this before. locking lips with Rhett Abbott in his shitty pickup truck or under the bleachers after a football game, tasting all that tobacco and oak on his lips. digging your fingers into the skin of his shoulders, hearing your name tumble off his lips in a moment of utter rapture.
he grazes your bottom lip with his thumb, then very gingerly pinches your chin and closes the distance between your mouths. he tastes like beer and so do you, but there is something distinctly sweet there, too. something that is not a flavor so much as a feeling, a promise.
and when you pull back finally, face hot, he peppers a couple more kisses around your pretty mouth.
"wanna know somethin'?" you ask, eyes slipped shut.
"I do," he whispers.
"I've been waitin' on you to kiss me since high school."
he chuckles, kisses you again.
"should've done it sooner," he tells you. "my apologies."
when you walk out of the bar later that night, arms hooked together, you're wearing his hat and he's donning your glasses.

Characters & Pairings: Rhett Abbott x Lana Dutton!OC (romance), The Abbott family & the Dutton family, Maria Olivares (past romance w/ Rhett ), Lloyd Pierce (platonic), Rip Wheeler (platonic).

Premise: Rhett Abbott was a man of an unwanted reputation in his hometown of Wabang, Wyoming. None were surprised by the fact he found himself back in the town he longed to escape following his breakup with Maria. But then a few months later Rhett was no where to be seen after his family took a trip out of town and returned without him. Now he’s back for a short time to settle some things and low an behold, Maria is back too. When she tries to mend things with the cowboys she’s in for quite the shock that Rhett Abbott is no longer a man on the market—and what makes it more shocking is his woman hails from the family of the country’s largest land owners.
Note: So fair warning, I have not seen the entirety of Outer Range but for some reason have been reading a lot of Rhett fanfiction and have a gist of it. But I am a big fan of Yellowstone and S5 drops tomorrow. I had this idea but was like ‘maybe I should wait,’ but I don’t want the thought to slip now that it’s fresh in my mind. So for this Lana was born on New Year’s Day of 1997 since Evelyn Dutton died in March of 1997 so she never knew her mother unlike her four siblings. Also although S5 isn’t fully out, we know from the trailer that John wins governor of Montana.
———————————————
“Hi, Rhett.” God that was not the voice he wanted to hear on this sunny Saturday morning in Wabang. Rhett Abbott had awoken with a smile on his face and giddiness in his chest at what the day had in store for him….but seeing Maria again for the first time in two years was not what he expected.
Or wanted at all for that matter.
Closing his eyes as if to pray it wasn’t Maria behind him, Rhett checked his phone for the time and a message he was expecting before preparing himself to face the woman who left his heart in pieces. When he finally does face her, Rhett remains stoic, “Hello, Maria.” There is nothing warm in his greeting, which is evident in the frown that takes over her expression. But what the fuck would she expect? He left his home for her and returned no less than a few months later on his parents porch with a bag and tear stained eyes.
If Maria thought he’d be happy to see her after all this then she was off her rocker.
Rhett had moved on and was in a place he never thought he would be. Happy. Content. Looking forward to the future.
He was not gonna let her take that away from him.
Or even let her think she could have a chance.
“How are you?” She offered a small smile, hoping to lighten the mood. But Rhett wasn’t having it.
“Fine.” She waited for him to return the question, but when he didn’t Maria shuffled on her feet, adjusting the purse on her shoulder, “I heard you were back in town. Was asking ‘round and they said you’ve been gone.”
“Yeah,” he nods, checking his phone again. “I’ve been in Montana the past year and half.” That surprises the woman, eyes widening slightly. She didn’t know what—or better yet who—was in Montana, but there was an obvious difference in how Rhett carried himself. It was completely different from how he was when they reconnected and surely when he returned back.
“Oh,” was all she could say. “That’s amazing uh—I guess.”
“It was,” his voice takes another edge, almost in a longing way. Maria glanced him over, feeling a tightness to her chest—almost like she realized there was something—someone—hidden between his words.
“Well, I was hoping to get a chance to run into you.”
“Well you did,” Rhett’s tone indicated he wasn’t happy with the fact. He leaned against the brick of the building he was standing in front of. It had been a busy day for Rhett to do some last minute things before he was set to head out the next morning. He found himself outside of the pharmacy having just got off the phone with Cecilia when Maria stopped him as he was exiting the store. “So what’d you want?”
Maria bit her lip, remembering how his eyes would flicker to her mouth whenever she did, but Rhett never faltered his gaze. It threw her off for a moment but she quickly recovered, “I wanted to talk to you…about us.”
Rhett made a face, looking away briefly, “Us? What’s there to talk ‘bout, Maria. That ship sailed long ago.” His tone was cold, but again Rhett did not care. There was nothing that Maria could do or say to change his mind. She could pout all she wanted, give him puppy eyes or pour her heart out to him, but it would be to no avail.
Rhett Abbott had found his solace. And it was not with her.
Moving to walk in the opposite direction toward his truck, Maria stopped him before he could even take a full step, “Wait, Rhett! Please,” she put a hand on his arm, but frowned again when he shook her off. “Look, I’m sorry for what happened between us. I-I know I said some things, and I regret it—I would take it all back if I can.” The expression on her face was one of pleading, hoping to get through to him. “Maybe we can work something out. Fix things—.”
“No,” the word flew from his lips, ignoring the way Maria faltered back, surprise coating her expression. “That’s not gonna happen, Maria.”
“But, Rhett—.” The sound of his phone ringing cut her off. Rhett removed the device, turning away as the smile overtook when he read the name, “Hey.”
“You sound relieved. More so than when you get out of pushing cattle. What did I save you from this time, Rhett Abbott.”
“Oh, just you know,” he glances over his shoulder, noticing how Maria has her arms crossed over her chest and disappointed their conversation was cut short. “Runnin’ into some old friends.” He turned away before he could see her reaction to the offense of calling her an ‘old friend.’ His voice goes lower to prevent Maria from hearing, “and this one was the last person I wanted to see on what was supposed to be a good fucking day.”
“I see,” he could just picture her smirk on the other end of the line that paired with the chuckle she let out. “Well, lucky for you, cowboy, I just passed the town's limits. Send me your location. I’ll be there very soon. And just for the hell of it, keep her there—I’d like to say hello.” Rhett didn’t know how she managed to put it together Maria was who he was referring to, but then again surprising him was her second nature.
“You sure about that?”
“Oh, darlin’, you should know by now that I never second guess a decision once it’s been made.”
They said their goodbyes with Rhett sending off his location before locking the device and putting it back in his pocket. When he faced Maria again, she was displeased and tried to not show it but failed. “Who was that?”
Rhett kept his face neutral, “someone.” If there was anything about the woman on the other end of the phone, it was that she loved her entrances. And there was no way Rhett was going to deprive her of one—especially when it was her first one to Wabang. Part of him looked forward to the look on Maria’s face for when that moment came. Not to mention those around them. Ever since he returned to Wabang there have been whispers about him. The usual gossip, but mostly wanting to know what the hell he had been up to in Montana after his family took a visit and he never returned.
“Someone?” She repeated, eyebrows narrowing in suspicion. The possibility of Rhett having someone was not what Maria planned for when she sought him out that day. It was to her knowledge when she asked around he was single or possibly hooking up with the usual buckle bunny. Not many could give her a straight answer since he’d been gone. They really had no fucking clue of what had become of Rhett Abbott.
Rhett gave a curt nod, “That’s right.”
Maria wasn’t having it, “is this someone special to you?”
“Look, Maria. I’m just gonna lay it flat with you,” he glances away at the sight of a familiar black Ram truck turning the corner. Behind it was a dark tinted SUV. As it proceeded down the street, Rhett spotted the giant yellow ‘Y’ on the truck’s side. “I’m engaged.”
“Engaged?” She exclaimed, as though she could not believe it. When the fuck did that happen and why did no one in town know? It had to be a lie to get her to back off him. The thought made a slight anger rise in her that Rhett would say something so serious as his way to reject her. Narrowing her eyes and spitting a tone that was almost mocking, Maria failed to notice the truck pulling up to a stop behind her, “To who?”
His eyes were looking past her, smirk taking form, “to her.”
When Maria spun around on her she froze at the sight of the black Ram with bright yellow lettering spelling ‘Yellowstone Dutton Ranch’ around a large ‘Y’ in the center of the side door. The back windows were tinted preventing anyone from seeing inside, but Maria didn’t have to wait long because the door was opening and a foot clad in a shiny nude heel was stepping out.
It was almost like when you watch a show and only get a small portion of the person the camera is panning its way to before they fully emerge. In this case, the second heel—which Maria was able to notice the eye-catching red bottom beneath it—followed the first before the body and face they belonged to was visible to her eyes.
She wore a light tan dress that ended right above her knees and accentuated her curves paired with a matching coat hanging over her shoulders and brown gloves on her hands. The dress had a neckline that cut beneath her collarbones, allowing the layered gold necklaces to bounce off the light around her. Brown hair with warm tone highlights was pulled back into a slick bun save for a few strands to frame her face, which stood out with the bright red lipstick coating her lips and the pair of cat-eye like sunglasses covering her eyes. Tucked behind one of her ears was a cigarrete.
She was beautiful. Like a model who just stepped off a runway and Maria instantly felt a wave of envy course through her. Several people passing by even stopped to get a glance at the woman, making no hidden attempt to hide their jealousy or attraction. Some of the older men traveling on the sidewalk had done a double take when they saw the name of the ranch on the truck.
And Rhett? He was biting his lip so hard to hide his grin that he was afraid it would start bleeding. And when he let his eyes travel over her figure, a low whistle sounded under his breath, the man praying his cock would not react because the last thing he wanted was a hard on in the middle of broad daylight.
Maria heard his reaction, turning back to see the awestruck expression which gave away everything he was feeling in that moment. It made her upset—remembering when he would look at her that way. Now it was directed toward this mystery woman. His fiancé. It fueled her jealousy more.
“Hey there, cowboy,” her voice was smooth like honey. Flirty and playful. Maria knew that tone—she’s used it on plenty of men. She’s used it on Rhett.
“Hey yourself,” he greeted, watching her step onto the sidewalk before shutting the door behind her. Maria had stepped back a bit as the woman strutted toward them, the bottom of the coat brushing against her knees. The sound of her Louboutin’s clicking against the pavement echoed before she came to a stop in front of Rhett. As much as he wanted to bring her into his arms with a kiss, Rhett settled for a soft peck on the corner of her mouth to not mess up her lipstick.
Both were obvious to the strained look of the woman to the side, who’s jealousy was so visible one could probably sniff it from a mile away.
“How was the drive?”
She took her gloves off first—aware of Maria’s eyes on her left hand which held a diamond ring—, placing them in the pocket of her coat before removing the sunglasses, “As bearable as it can be with those two idiots.” The gesture of her head had Rhett glancing to the truck she arrived in. In the front he spotted Lloyd in the passenger seat with Rip behind the wheel. The window was up, but he could make out their wave to him and returned it with a small smile. With a chuckle he turns back to his fiancé, “I’m sure it wasn’t too bad, baby.”
Her brow raised in a playful glare, “Maybe I’ll drive your truck back by myself tomorrow and you can take up camp with them. See how long you last.”
Rhett laughs—the sound sending a dagger to Maria’s heart—pulling her to his side, “I’m sorry you had to endure that.” She makes a ‘hmmph,’ which only makes him grin. “What’s with the SUV?”
She scoffed lightly, “I told them not to come, but when your father is the governor of Montana, the protection detail is a given. Whether I like it or not.” Maria visibly reacted to the revelation that not only was Rhett engaged….but his fiancé was the daughter of Montana’s governor.
Now she remembered where she recognized the name on the truck. John Dutton had recently been elected the previous year during turmoil with his family's ranch and Market Equities.
Maria watched as the woman, whose name she had yet to know, removed the cigarette behind her ear before placing it between her lips. Instead of lighting it herself, Rhett pulled out a lighter and did it for her. The two kept eye contact the entire time which felt like Maria was intruding on an intimate moment.
The—not so settle—sound of Maria clearing her throat broke up the happy reunion. While Rhett was annoyed, she found it amusing, turning her attention to Maria. With the glasses removed Maria was able to get a good look at her face. From afar she was beautiful, but up close she was captivating.
Blue green eyes stared back at Maria, framed by neatly groomed full brows that matched the color of her hair and a thin line of eyeliner winged out. Other than the eyeliner and lipstick, it appeared she wasn’t wearing any other makeup—something many would be envious of. And though there was a good sized scar on her left cheekbone—as was two on her chest forming an odd shape—it did not take away from her beauty. In fact it made her look more intimidating.
Rhett broke the silence, “Maria, this is Lana. Lana Dutton.” Lana, who was now looking Maria up and down, gave a smile. But it wasn’t friendly which had Maria raise her defenses. “Darlin’, this is—.”
“I know who she is,” Lana gently cut Rhett off, blowing smoke out as she did. “So nice to put a face to a name.” In that moment Marie felt a sense of pride, nearly smirking at the fact that she was still a topic of his life. But it soon deflated when Lana said, “oh don’t look too happy, Maria. I can smell heartbreak on a man from a mile away and when Rhett landed in Yellowstone he reeked of it. Not to mention he was drunk off his ass and well, you know what they say, ‘Loose lips sink ships.’” Maria’s smirk turned into a frown, Lana taking another inhale of smoke.
“But that was a long time ago,” Lana spoke again, “you sure did a number on him, but thankfully Rhett realized his worth.” The couple met each other’s gaze, Rhett conveying a mix of emotions at the woman who captured his heart.
Neither paid attention to the shame Maria was showing. The dark haired woman was having trouble finding the right words to say. What Lana said cut into her, which only made her angry. Quickly she tried to think of a way to divert the attention away from her, “I doubt drowning himself in booze and fucking any piece of ass had him realize that.”
She expected a flash of anger from Lana, which Rhett certainly gave at the insult, but to Maria’s surprise, Lana simply laughed in what could best be described as, ‘you done fucked up now.’ Maria tightened her jaw, taking a step back when the brunette pulled away from Rhett to move toward her. This time when Lana took a drag of the cigarette, she let the smoke waf in Maria’s face—the smell nearly making her gag.
Lana’s expression was cold, unwavering as she spoke, “Is that your way of trying to get me to see Rhett in a different light? To judge him based on the decisions he used to make—which were a direct result of how he felt the world viewed him? Don’t think I don’t know what girls like you do. You sought him out from the moment you heard he was back in town—hoping to slither your way back into his life as though you weren’t the reason for y’all’s breakup two years ago.”
“You don’t know anything,” Maria hissed, glaring at Lana as the anger swelled. With the heels Lana was wearing it made her about an inch or so taller than Maria and with them being so close the scar on her face was more pronounced.
“Please,” came a scoff, “I know everything. I see how you hold yourself. How you let your eyes drift to him only to be disappointed that his eyes are on me. I see how you’re comin’ up with ways to challenge me—as though you have a chance to remove me from the picture, but Imma let you in on a little secret,” Lana falls into a whisper as she leans closer causing Maria to stiffen. People around them pitted glances as they walked past, trying not to eavesdrop but Lana was smarter. What she was about to say was for Maria’s ears only.
Lana’s lips curled up, “You see this scar on my face?” It was a rhetorical question, but nonetheless Maria nodded. Behind her, Rhett muttered a low, “darlin’,” in warning. Though it turned him on immensely by what he was witnessing from his fiancé, he didn’t want her jeopardizing herself. They weren’t in Darby, Montana anymore. Anything she said here could have consequences.
But Lana was relentless. If someone was threatening her, she threatened back ten fold. And she was gonna make sure they knew to never mess with Lana Dutton again. Unfortunately for Maria, it was her time to learn the lesson.
Eyes locked on Maria, voice so low Maria had to strain her ears to hear, the dark brunette was sent to chills by what the Dutton had in store for her. It made her throat constrict for air seemed impossible to breathe.
“The man who gave me it is currently rotting at the bottom of a cliff after I blew a hole through his head with a shotgun. Because where I come from, we take matters into our own hands when people become problems. So take my advice when I warn you, Maria, don’t become my problem.”
The fear on Maria’s face almost had Rhett feel sympathetic, “Lana…”
“And if you question the truth of my words,” Lana’s head gestures to Rhett, “You can ask him. He was there to witness it.” With that, both out of fear and curiosity, Maria glances at Rhett. Part of her was praying Lana was bluffing in an attempt to scare her, but the look Rhett gave her was enough proof she was in fact telling the truth.
Alarms bells were ringing in her head—telling her to get the fuck out of there and pretend like she didn’t just hear a confession to murder. From the governor of Montana’s daughter for that matter. And Rhett was engaged to her? If she had the balls to kill someone in cold blood, what did that say about her family?
Have they killed before?
The anxiety filled Maria’s veins as she let out a shaky breath, unsure of what to do. Lana’s gaze was becoming too much for her and from what Maria gathered it was to get a point across. ‘Tell anyone what I told you, and I’ll come for you.’
Lana brings her cigarette up, taking the final drag before throwing it to the pavement and stepping on the bud. Not once did her eyes leave Maria’s. “I would warn you to keep this between us. If rumors start to spread about Rhett Abbott’s fiancé…I’ll know who the source is.” Stepping away, Lana bids a nod, “It was a pleasure meeting you, Maria. Hope we never have to cross paths again. For your sake.”
Taking his hand, Lana pulls Rhett away to where his truck was parked beside the curb a few cars down. Maria was left frozen, her face pale by the final threat Lana had given— which unbeknownst to her had the two men in the truck chuckling. “What I would give to hear what Lana just said. Poor girl looks like she’s seen a ghost,” Lloyd mused, watching the couple walk up the sidewalk. Rip put the car in drive, prepping to follow them, “Whatever it was, she won’t be a problem. Bitch wouldn’t be stupid enough to if she were smart.”
When Rhett and Lana made it to his truck, her back was immediately pushed against it as Rhett’s lips crashed onto hers. His rough hands cradled her face, Lana smiling against his lips which were sure going to be stained from her lipstick. There was an immediate pressure against her abdomen from his groin. Obviously her little stunt was well received.
When they pulled away, Lana was amused by some of the looks they were receiving from around them. “You,” he breathed out, mouth closed to hers, “are somethin’ else. You know that?”
Lana bit her lip with a cheeky look in response, as if to say, “I know.” She brought her left hand up to his cheek, stoking the soft skin with her thumb. “Had to make a statement. Can’t let some has been try to throw me off my rocker, cowboy.”
He lets out a laugh, arms going to loosely wrap around her waist. “That why you dressed like this? I ain’t used to ya dolling up like this but—,” he trails off to check her out, loving what he was seeing. “I could definitely get used to it.” Normally Lana wore a tank top that made her tits look like heaven and tore up jeans with her boots and leather jacket. As the youngest Dutton, she worked on the ranch as a hand and—like the others who wore the brand—did dirty work when it was called for.
The man she told Maria was just one of the many Lana had sent to the train station.
Only after John was elected governor did she get involved in politics and the business side of her family’s ranch. The media was always lurking, trying to get a glimpse of John Dutton’s youngest daughter who was more like his personal bodyguard. It became a constant annoyance for her. Avoiding reports soon became a second nature for Lana and the times she and Rhett went out they had to keep things professional for the sake of image. It was her father who encouraged her to try getting involved in other things now that he was more of a public figure than just the man who owned the country's largest ranch.
Answering Rhett’s question, Lana gave a shrug, “Just thought I should make it clear to the people of Wabang that Rhett Abbott is off the market and—not to toot my own horn—but she has style and is surely what they would call ‘a catch.’”
“Damn right she is,” he murmured, tipping his hat back a bit to pull her into another kiss. “We sure gonna be the talk of the town tonight.”
“Good. That was the plan.” Lana places one last kiss before playfully pushing him away and hopping into his tuck. “Now let’s get the fuck out of here, cowboy. Lloyd and Rip know to get started on packing your shit while you and I make up for the lost time these past couple weeks.”
Rhett didn’t hide his grin, feeling the tightness in his jeans increase. Boy was he in for the ride of his life when he fell in love with Lana Dutton. “Yes ma’am.”

Series masterlist here
The first time you landed a deal — the acquisition of a dairy business in Wisconsin by a billion-dollar conglomerate — you went home and cried.
Even the five figure bonus check sitting on your dining room table wouldn’t help to dull the tears that pricked behind your eyes. You had spent three weeks outside of Madison, Wisconsin, running through document after document before making your assessment.
And then, on the last day, as you sat surrounded by financial statements and endless cups of cold coffee, the conference room door opened. You frowned. There was no one there.
But then a small voice rang out in your ear and you looked down to see a small child standing next to the table. “Are you going to take my mommy’s company?”
The CEO of the business rushed in, cheeks pink and flushed. “I’m so sorry,” she said, scooping up the little girl by her armpits. “She slipped away when I was making copies.”
You smiled. “It’s OK.”
But it wasn’t. That little girl was right. You were taking her mom’s company. One year later, that same woman was cut out from the newly acquired mega-business and you cried again reading it in the local paper.
You felt like a monster. But you had worked too hard and too long to admit failure. Because the truth was, you weren’t a failure. That’s why you felt the way you did. You were successful. Too successful. And that success almost always came at someone else’s demise.

“Where were you?” Perry had his arms crossed over his chest as Rhett tried to sneak through the door in the morning.
“Out.” He was rumpled and smelled like sex and Perry had seen his brother after a one night stand enough times to know the look. But there was something else about Rhett this time. An air of determination.
Perry squinted. “You were with her, weren’t you?” He paused. Then, “That bitch.”
Rhett was in Perry’s face in a second. “Don’t you fucking say shit about her,” he hissed.
“She’s a bitch and you know it, Rhett,” Perry said and Rhett slapped the wall behind Perry’s head angrily.
“Shut up!” he roared. “You don’t know anything, you fucking idiot!”
“Daddy?” Amy appeared at the top of the stairs. Both men turned and Rhett lowered his arm.
“Go to your room,” Perry said. “Now.”
“Don’t yell at her,” Rhett countered.
“She’s my daughter,” Perry said, eyes darkening.
“Uncle Rhett?” Amy’s voice trembled. Rhett and Perry never got along, but this was different. Rhett knew he was on a timeline. And his brother was standing in his way.
“It’s OK, honey,” Rhett said, his voice softening. “I promise.”
Amy’s eyes latched onto his and he nodded. His heart clenched in his chest. He was OK leaving Perry and his parents. Hell, he was happy to leave Wabang in the dust. But God if he didn’t wish he could take Amy with him. For so long, she had been the one thing he could truly say brought him joy.
Until he met you.
Amy disappeared up the stairs and around the corner. The sound of her door shutting softly flipped a switch in Rhett’s mind and he turned back to Perry.
“Don’t you say shit about Julia,” he whispered angrily. “She’s going to fucking save our asses.”
“Save us? She’s the reason we’re in this mess to start.”
“You don’t know what she’s giving up to help us, Perry,” Rhett spat. “So do what you do best. Do nothing. Stay out of it and let me fix things.”
Perry shook his head. “You’ve never fixed a damn thing in your life, Rhett. Why would I trust you now?”
He looked at his brother with hard eyes. “Because you don’t have a choice. Trust me and Julia, or watch everything you’ve ever known disappear in front of your eyes. Let Amy watch her family’s history disintegrate. Don’t be a dick, Perry. I’m trying to save the ranch.”
***
“Excuse me,” you said, setting your coffee cup down. “Can you show me the local section?”
The librarian let her eyes roam over you. A month in Wabang and you still hadn’t bothered to try and change your clothing to match the town. She eyed your Theory dress, Manolo Blahnik heels, YSL bag. “Over there.” She pointed one knobby finger toward the back wall.
You picked up your cup and flashed her a bright smile. “Thanks!”
She grunted, hunching over once again, eyes now directed at the yellowing pages in front of her.
Against the far wall were rows and rows of waist-high bookshelves. You set your items down on a nearby table before bending over, fingers running over the spines of dusty binders before finding what you were looking for.
Local laws and ordinances. You sighed, pulling out as many binders as you could hold, before dumping them all on the wooden table. The librarian looked up with a frown and you shot her an apologetic smile.
Your phone buzzed.
Perry’s on board.
You sat down, crossing one leg over another. Finding precedent now, you typed back. Going to be a long night.
Don’t be too late, Rhett wrote back. I’ve got dinner planned for us.
Oh yeah? Dessert, too?
Baby, he typed. You’re dessert.
You crossed your legs tighter, squeezing your core, shaking your head and diving back into the legal books in front of you. There had to be a way to do the impossible: save Wabang.
***
“I see why you like it here,” you whispered softly.
You and Rhett were lying in the back of his pickup truck, staring up at the stars that filled the crisp evening sky. “Not sure if like it is the word,” Rhett replied, voice thick and gruff and even after weeks of hearing it you couldn’t get over how sexy he sounded when he wasn’t even trying. “It’s all I’ve ever known.”
“I’ve been everywhere,” you replied. “But this is completely different. So I get why it’s important to you.”
“You’re important to me.” It came out of nowhere. Your eyes widened and you turned your head. Rhett pushed himself up onto one elbow, fingertips reaching out and brushing the hair from your face. “This place, it doesn’t mean anything if I can’t share it with you.”
“Rhett,” you whispered. “It’s been five weeks.”
“It’s crazy,” he said. “Trust me, I know that. But I need you to know that no matter what happens, I’m going with you. I don’t want you to think I’m going because it’s my only option.”
“Are you sure?”
“Julia,” he said and the way his grainy voice slid over your skin made you shiver. No one had ever made you feel that way before. Not a first date at a Michellin starred restaurant in New York or a hedge fund manager on a trip to Bali or that one fling in Venice. No one compared to Rhett Abbott. “I’ve never been sure about anything before. Except you.”
He leaned down, sealing his lips over yours, your hands finding his hair, tangling in the curled edges.
You moaned into the open air as Rhett’s lips danced down along your throat toward your collarbone, thick fingers deftly sliding up your sweater, grabbing your breast as you gasped beneath him.
“Rhett,” you whimpered, feeling the heat of his wet kisses trailing along your chest.
“Come here, darlin’,” he whispered gruffly, sliding off of you until his feet landed on the ground. You looked up in shock as Rhett tugged your bare legs, sliding you to the edge of the open truck bed. He pushed your skirt up against your hips, grunting when he realized you weren’t wearing any panties. “Fuck,” he muttered, almost to himself, bending down and placing his mouth against your cunt.
“Fuck!” you cried out as Rhett’s tongue circled your clit, one rough finger entering you, pumping inside of your already wet pussy.
Rhett groaned against your core, free hand pressed against your lower abdomen, pulling at your belly so he could press his face deeper against your folds, adding a second finger to stretch you open as you writhed against his face.
“Oh, fuck, yes, just like that!” You convulsed as you came against Rhett’s broad tongue, legs wrapped around his neck.
Finally, he pulled away gently, hands still holding your hips, fingers brushing against your skin softly, reassuringly. “You’re beautiful,” he whispered.
You leaned forward onto your forearms. “You’re just trying to get in my pants.”
He grinned. “I wouldn’t lie to you, darlin’.”
You tugged him in closer. “Rhett?”
“Yeah, baby?”
“What if I can’t do it,” you asked. “What if I can’t save the town?”
“Then it ain’t your fault,” he whispered, tucking your hair behind your ear. “A place like this? It was never going to last forever. Something big was going to roll in and change everything. And if we fight like hell to save it and we still lose, then at least I can leave knowing I tried. If we do our best, that's the best we can do.”
“You won’t hate me?” you asked quietly.
“Darlin’,” Rhett said, his voice blanketing you despite its roughness. Above his head, the stars twinkled. “Julia, look at me.”
Your eyes met his blue ones. If you squinted, Rhett was part of the sky. He was all you could see, for miles and miles.
“I’m in love with you, honey,” he said and your heart squeezed in your chest. Rhett’s fingertips were pressed hard against the delicate skin of your neck and you could feel him trembling, ever so slightly. “I love you, Julia. Nothing is going to change that.”

An AU in which Rhett makes a deal with a crossroads demon.
Rhett had never particularly stood out growing up. Just another kid that grew up on a farm, another kid destined to be a farmhand. On his twentieth birthday he dug a little hole in the center of a dirt crossroad outside of Wabang, placing a small box full of graveyard dirt, black cat bones, and a drop of his blood in the hole. Not even fifteen seconds passed before she arrived. Long black hair cascaded down her shoulders, long goat like horns curled out of her hair, and solid black eyes stared deeply at him. It was an intriguing creature, one that he expected to look much different. But in fact, she actually looked quite beautiful. "What is it that you desire?" Rhett told her his wish, something he had been trying for for a few years now. Her soft giggle was intoxicating when he heard it. She took a few steps forward, pressed her body against his and whispered, "Fifteen years for a wish like that." Rhett nodded. Soft lips met his, shocking him at first. His eyes drifted close eventually, accepting the kiss in full. When he opened his eyes the next time, she was gone. The feeling of her lips lingered against his, hand coming up to to try to feel the fading sensation. Rhett now only had fifteen years of his life left, the rest given exchange to fulfill his dream.

Here to Stay (Rhett Abbott x OC)
listen I saw a post this morning and I blacked out and now we're here....enjoy the filth (aka oral m receiving and implied masturbation)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tessa pulled off of him with a soft pop, looking up at him with saliva glistening on the corners of her mouth and eyes half-lidded. “Keep the ice on y’r hand, bubs.”
“Y-Y’re not makin’ it — easy,” Rhett replied, voice pitchy and breathless as she kissed at his pelvic bone.
She had the audacity to smile almost bashfully as she turned her face into his hip. Rhett really didn’t think he deserved this. Locked in the one-person bathroom, back pressed against the door with his jeans around his boots, his almost-girlfriend getting her knees dirtied and marked up just to please him. A thank-you, she called it as she dragged him into the bathroom.
Rhett didn’t need thanking for punching that guy in the face — three times. He put his hands where they didn’t belong and called Tessa things he should have prayed to God for forgiveness for. Should have prayed to Rhett for forgiveness for as he was dragged out of the Pit Bar by the back of his shirt. Rhett, with all that anger and fury bubbling beneath his skin, wanted to keep hitting him. Wanted to follow him out into the parking lot and make him apologize over and over until Rhett was satisfied.
But then Tessa put her hand around his wrist. Looked up at him with gratitude and fear in her eyes — and all thoughts of that asshole left his mind. She was the only thing that mattered. He was practically putty in her hold as she pulled him over to the bar and asked for a bag of ice for his already reddening knuckles.
Moldable and malleable and willing to do whatever she wanted. Even as she wrapped her lips around his leaking cock and took as much of him in her mouth as she could.
“Fu-uck, sunshine,” he breathed, the back of his head hitting the wooden door with an audible thunk.
The ice slipped from his red and aching knuckles again, but neither of them cared as it tumbled to the floor. A crunch and a splat on the busted tile. Not when he was slipping cold and wet fingers into her hair.
He sighed, “Too good t’me.”
She hummed around him, hands digging into the meat of his thighs as she bobbed her head. Drool leaking from the corner of her mouth. It took nearly all of Rhett’s willpower to pick his head up from the door and look down at her. She looked beautiful — just like he thought she would. Even in the dim, nearly flickering light of that bathroom. Mouth full of his cock, no one elses, his. There were tears in her eyes when she looked up at him through those thick lashes. And he couldn’t help the soft groan and little buck of his hips, pushing him further into her mouth, that had her moaning and gagging around him.
“O-Oh, shit —” He gripped her hair a little tighter, forced her to keep still even as that surprisingly devilish tongue kept working him. “C’n I keep goin’, baby? So close…”
Tessa nodded as best she could. Relaxed her jaw even as her nails dug further into his flesh. Prepping herself for what was to come. Rhett, with all the gentleness he could muster while his cock ached for release, put his other hand on the side of her face. Then he began to rock gently into her mouth.
“So good, Tess, fuck — mouth feels so good.”
He was babbling now and he didn’t even know it. Grunting and talking and praising as he worked his hips harder, faster. And Tessa just sat there and took it, moaning and gagging and tears streaming down her cheeks. He didn’t even notice the hand that had slipped beneath the skirt of her dress.
Not until his spine went rigid against the door and he was spilling into her mouth. And she swallowed it all dutifully — let him stay in her mouth until it hurt just enough for him to hiss and grin.
“Oh, sunshine,” he whispered when he finally came back to himself and noticed what she was doing.
Rocking into her own hand with her forehead rested on his hip.
“Just so good t’me,” she whimpered quietly.
The sound echoed in the bathroom quiet.

the lullaby of mother troll;

warnings; mentions of alcohol, adult themes in general, complicated emotions, family woes, whimsy.

Tumblr media
For as long as man-kind has roamed the earth, they have lived their lives through lore. Through the traveling of stories they live on - tales that prevail through the very lives that conjured them. Some fall into shadow, to be forgotten. Some live on, in an altered version of its older siblings. Creatures and beings, who once held such importance to mankind and their beliefs and superstitions long set aside as whimsy and lore - not to be anchored within the reality of man.
Some tales told to scare, some to comfort, some to nurture, and some to warn. Do not dwell out in the woods, or the vittra will bewitch you and curse your luck. Do not be lured by the sweet music of the water, for the nixie might lure you into the depths of the lake. And do not insult the wood wife with firearms as you enter her domain, for she will smite any man that dare shoot at her.
These tales are still told to this day, but more so to carry on the history of human creativity, of the faith and beliefs of old.
Cecelia had told these tales to her sons before bed, her body shifting so she faced her youngest more often than not. For she thought if she ever had to trudge through murky woods to find her heathen of a son again, she might scream out loud.
The boy in question sat enraptured at the tale his mama told, clear blue eyes glittering like a clear lake on a windless day as Cecelia spoke of trolls, of wood wives, and of nymphs.
“Mama… I like the nymphs, they seem like the nicest ones you’ve told us about so far, right Per’?” her youngest looked to her oldest, and the elder of the two scoffed and rolled his eyes at his brother “You know they’re not real, right?” Perry rolled his eyes again for good measure, as his younger brother looked down, abashed, at his blankie that he held close to his chest.
Rhett did not know that. His mama told him about them, he didn’t figure mama would lie. She told him not to. The younger boy didn’t tell his brother how much this revelation hurt him, because only yesterday when he had shed tears, his father had brusquely told him to stop.
Rhett so badly wished the nymphs were real. It was why he ran to the lake in the woods so much, to see if he could ever see one. His mother never knew why her son had taken such an interest in the lore around nymphs - sometimes it took her hours to drag her son away from the pond deep in the woods - where he would sit as if patiently waiting for someone. Drawn by the still, glittering waters.
Some folklore had traveled not only through time, but over the seas as well - touching every  crevice where mankind stepped its foot. Though some were contained to a village, or an area surrounding. In Wabang, Cecelia knew there was one that some of the older townsfolk still believed.
The tale of a woman… the woman who resided within the woods, lakes and mountain ranges. Some called her the wood wife - men who were enchanted by beauty and promise of bountiful hunt back in the 1800’s, some called her the nymph - she who resided in waters and protected the woodland realm and all its creatures.
She was different from the other tales though, for she would find a life long love - some believed it was her soulmate. She was no immortal being, though she was said to live far longer than any man. Any man who was selected by the nymph were lucky folk, for her love was everlasting - it was said. Some of the older residents of Wabang spoke of the last time she had chosen her one love, many many years ago.
The tall tale was told by a man deep in his drink, something he blamed on having sighted her ethereal being without being her love. He had sighted her with a man, with love in his eyes as she placed flowers in his hair.
He told all who would listen of her beauty as she looked at her beloved, and how her face had contorted as she noticed him staring - her features twisting something awful - as if she could sense his tainted soul and mind. His dark thoughts and desires. She reflected him, his entire being back to him and he has not gone a day without a strong bottle or two since.
Tumblr media
Time went on, as it does, and soon Rhett was no longer a small boy running to the lake in the woods, his whole body vibrating as he sat patiently watching the wildlife. He felt as if something should be here. Something he was waiting for. When he got older, he did still visit the lake - though his enthusiasm and excitement dimmed, as it does with children who grow up too fast, too hard, and left to learn how to navigate life on their lonesome.
As he grew older, he would sometimes bring girls into the woods. Never to the lake, no, that didn’t feel right. He usually brought them to the foot of the mountain, hiking skirts up their waists, or bending them over rocks with their boot cut jeans at their ankles. It was never as Perry had described it, Rhett usually thought as he finished. He never felt very satisfied, and sometimes he wouldn’t reach his peak at all, instead making sure his partner reached their high and pretending he did too. He chased it though - wanted to know about that euphoric feeling his friends and older brother had told him about.
For a long time he figured he just ain’t wired right. He was made for bullridin’, drinkin’, smokin’ and being a dog. Sleeping in his truck on cold Wyoming nights, not wanting to wake his niece or his parents - too tired to hear yet another tirade about ‘being more like his brother’ and ‘learning some damn respect’.
He lit a cigarette on those nights sometimes, inhaling deeply as he looked up to the small glittering stars that dotted the night sky. There was something familiar in their pattern, he’d always felt.
Rhett always felt more right in nature. Always felt more right in the woods, by the lake. He had felt that deep restlessness take hold of him for quite some time now, settling in his chest. Sometimes he wondered if it was eased by going to the lake.
Inhaling the cooler night air on his 23rd birthday, Rhett licked his lips as he thought of how long it had been since he had visited his lake. As he pondered, he brought the side of his thumb to his mouth, picking at the already torn skin there with his teeth, brows furrowed slightly. It had to have been more than a year since he last visited the lake, and even longer since he had had a swim.
Climbing into his truck, he winced as it roared to life in the still night sky outside of his parents house. He was sure to get an earful for that one in the morning. Perhaps he would have to spend the night by the lake to not disturb his family’s sleep again. The loud engine echoed as he sped across the pastures, only stopping when he reached the edge of the forest, swiftly grabbing a blanket and a flashlight from the trunk of the car and beginning the well traveled path to the lake.
As soon as his silhouette could no longer be seen from the pasture, a shaky sigh of relief left Rhett’s parted lips. It felt as if the trees around him were humming with delight at his appearance, and he heard the soft hoots of an owl in the distance as he moved slowly through the path he’d worn down for years. Come to think of it, when he was a child, the path was there then too - although hidden beneath vegetation that had overgrown it.
Following it felt like something he had always done, ever since he could walk. He couldn’t remember when he first found the path or the lake - he only knew the tale his mother told of her fear as she searched for him for hours.
The pale moonlight illuminated branches and bushes along the path, and soon enough came the familiar clearing, the still water reflecting the light of the moon almost perfectly. For a moment, Rhett stood stock still. The lake still felt familiar and soothing, but now his skin was prickling again - and that sense of waiting for— something, someone overcame him again. Licking his lips, he pushed the faint buzzing to the back of his mind as he slowly reached for the back of his old t-shirt, drawing it down over his head, letting it fall into the grass below him. His boots and belt buckle was next, along with his jeans and boxers, and at last his socks.
Running his fingers through his long hair, Rhett let his eyes flutter close, chest heaving in a deep breath as he felt the cool summer air caress his naked body. Rolling his shoulders, he could feel the dull ache that lingered there, especially in his left shoulder - the joint crackling as he rolled it backwards. Taking another deep breath, he focused on the feeling of the cold, dewy grass beneath his feet, and how his skin felt beneath his fingertips as he ran them down his chest and abdomen before they rested on the side of his thighs.
Kneeling by the edge of the lake, Rhett slowly submerged his fingers into the dark waters, swirling them around as he felt the cool sensation surrounding him. Fleetingly he thought to himself that it would probably do wonders for his aching muscles - his inner thighs and abdomen had been killing him since his last bull. Rowdy son of a bitch.
Exhaling slowly, Rhett placed a strand of hair behind his ear out of habit before standing to his full height to wade into the shallow waters. The chill of the still water soothed him somewhat, his muscles thanking him for lending them this reprieve. The same could not be said for his mind.
Wading out into the waters, he kept going until he was waist deep, letting his head hang as he watched the blurry reflection of the starry skies in the water. Biting his bottom lip, he let himself fully feel the physical ache his mental anguish was causing him. Today had been his birthday. His twenty third year on this god forsaken earth, and sure - birthdays had never been a big deal in the Abbott family, but somewhere he had at least hoped for a smile and a hug, or even a recognition of the day. Ever since Perry’s… incident though, nothing else had been important. Not even him. Especially not him.
A soft groan broke the silence of the woods, his hands coming up to rub at his face as tears stung mournfully in his closed eyes. Was he being selfish? So much had happened in such little time. Rebecca was gone, Amy was in shambles… Perry was too, and now he had gone and fucked shit up beyond Rhett’s wildest imagination. The Tillersons’ were involving lawyers for the land, and now surely the fucking police would come like bloodhounds in the night. So much had happened - of course no one would be inclined to remember Rhett’s birthday. It wasn’t important. The sting of that realization had Rhett gasping in a breath as the dull ache spread in his chest, indignant hot tears rolling down his dust covered cheeks.
“Fuck!” he exclaimed loudly into the darkness, letting his head fall back, so that his cerulean eyes were staring up towards the inky skies. Inhaling, he promptly pushed against the sandy bottom of the lake, pushing his body into a half dive that sent him towards the middle of the lake, now fully submerged. He let himself enjoy the weightless feeling as he surged through the water, that weightless feeling only partly soothing the ache his emotional toil had caused him physically.
Breaking the surface again, he gasped in a deep breath, once again disturbing the peace of the woodland creatures in the vicinity. A bush rustled violently, and Rhett figured he must’ve scared away a poor rabbit with his sudden emergence. Inhaling deeply, he ran a hand down his face to brush the water away, his body turned to where the noise had come from. As his eyes adjusted to the dark, he could hardly believe he saw correctly. Fleetingly, he thought he’d seen a figure standing where the bush had rustled. Red and white billowing as the figure disappeared behind the treeline.
Rhett stood frozen in his spot. In all of the years he had come here, he had never once seen even the slightest hint that any other than himself and his mother had ever ventured this far into the woods. It must have been a trick of the light. What light? Or a figment of his lonely imagination. Yes, that was surely it. Shaking his head solemnly, the soaking wet cowboy slowly made his way out of the water, droplets falling around him into the soft grass. He hadn’t thought to bring a towel, only blankets, so he laid one down on the ground, figuring the summer night would have to dry him the best it could.
Laying down, Rhett had an overwhelming feeling that someone was watching him. It should unnerve him, but the thought only brought him peace - a sense of calm washing over him as he made himself comfortable on the ratty blanket he’d placed down. His eyes fluttered closed, and for the first time in months - sleep found him as quick and as easy as it would if he’d drunk at least half a bottle of whiskey, only, he was stone cold sober.
That night, his dreams were marred by visions of a woman. A woman dressed in all white, with different faces and names, although in every single dream she was significant. She was the same, the same soul even if her face changed. She always held that look of love on her face, she was always reaching for him - calling for him. He was always just inches from touching her when the dream changed. He wanted to go to her, wanted to wrap himself up in her love and never leave. The last dream before his eyes opened, was of a flash of long, strawberry hair, dancing against the thin white fabric of a flowy dress.
As he woke, a single word seemed to slip from his lips just when he was in the realm between asleep and awake “Naiad”. A sensation had disturbed his sleep, and as his eyelids fluttered open, the sensation of a warm hand lingered on the side of his face. Reaching up, his own rough hand came in contact with his stubbled cheek - no trace of a touch of another ever being there. Brows knitted together in confusion, Rhett slowly moved his body - ignoring the protests in his limbs as he rested against his elbows as he took in the clearing in the pale morning sun.
“What the fuck…” was his not so eloquent words on the matter. Shaking his head, he reached for his phone. No missed calls. No texts. It was, however, nearing 6 am and Rhett knew Royal would be needing him for the cattle today. Sighing, he slowly got dressed - giving the lake one last glance before letting his heavy footfalls leave his place of peace - only to rejoin the world in which he felt he had no real say on the matter of his own peace.

"go to sleep, you haven't gotten any rest in the past couple of days" with Step Dad Rhett wanting to take care of baby so Mama can rest??
Forrest hasn't been sleeping well at all.
not even just the usual wake-up-every-two-hours-wanting-the-boob kind of not sleeping. it's different than that; your bouncing baby boy has been screaming through the night. already you've taken him to the pediatrician (or two or three) and they've all told you the same thing: he's teething. it''ll pass.
you're certain that it's much easier for them to say that when they're not the ones rocking a baby at three in the morning after precisely thirty-three minutes of actual sleep. and even if you had more grit, more patience, more energy, you would still be entirely deflated just hearing those pitiful cries from your baby boy. they puncture the still and quiet air inside your house--so much so that it sometimes makes the neighbors dog's howl.
so, you're spread thin. so thin that you're pretty sure you're see-through.
Rhett knows this as soon as you answer the door. he's smiling softly just in anticipation of seeing you--but when you swing the door open, Forrest tucked against your chest and wailing, that soft smile dissipates immediately.
"hey," you say, voice stained with tears. "c'mon in."
and then you're walking away from the door, wiping tired tears off your cheeks, sniffling hard. Forrest's little voice is ragged by now, but it hasn't stopped his upset.
"s'goin' on, darlin'?" Rhett asks, quickly stepping into the house and shutting the front door behind him.
he takes in the state of the house: the bottles on the table, the oragel infant on the couch, the unfolded blankets strewn over the chairs, the spinning record in the corner. his heart squeezes; you usually keep such a tidy house, it's important to you.
and if your house wasn't a dead giveaway, than the mere sight of you definitely is. hair thrown up lazily, shoulders practically sitting under your ears, tear-stained face, dry lips, unwashed body.
"teethin'. apparently."
you're still bouncing Forrest, pressing salty kisses against his tufts of brown hair, trying to soothe him.
Rhett feels a little bit out of his depth. he knew what it meant getting involved with you--it meant you and Forrest, always. he can't have one without the other and at this point, a few months in, he doesn't want one without the other.
he watches, wordlessly, from his spot on the entryway rug and racks his brain. how can he help you? tidy up the living room? let you shower? offer to take Forrest on a ride while you rest? he's chewing the inside of his cheek, his thumbs tucked into the pockets of his Levi's when you suddenly turn and meet his gaze.
oh. you're exhausted. like the kind of exhausted that can fall asleep standing up like a horse. the kind of exhausted that makes his heart squeeze in his chest.
"darlin'," Rhett starts softly, crossing the living room to stand before you.
if you were any less tired, you'd be embarrassed about your tears. but you just sniffle and look up at him, entire body pulsing and aching.
"I'm so tired," you say quietly, still bouncing. "I'm so tired that it's scarin' me, Rhett."
Rhett, with his breath held in his throat, gently swipes the tears from your face. you relish in the warmth of his rough palm, inhaling all that leather on his skin, and almost let your eyes flutter shut.
but then Rhett is taking Forrest from you, his eyes pouring into yours, reading every crease between your brows and pull of your lips. he doesn't wanna overstep.
you let him take Forrest--your arms falling limp at your sides, vibrating with tired.
and in Rhett's arms, Forrest looks tinier than ever. how could something that small make you feel this fucking tired? and all that tired, all that sadness, washes away entirely when Rhett presses a kiss to the top of Forrest's fuzzy head. he hasn't stopped wailing, not, not yet. but Rhett's got this. his arms are secured, his hands are in the right place, his nose is pressing against his head.
"we'll be alright, huh?" Rhett whispers to Forrest, pressing a few more kisses to the top of his head, inhaling all that milk and talcum powder on his skin. "'ve got this, huh, bubba?"
you're fairly certain that your heart is about to pump out of your chest and fall right onto the floor, staining the wood.
Rhett looks away from Forrest's ruddy cheeks up to your face, which is wet with tears all over again.
"s'wrong?" he asks you, securing Forrest against him before he reaches out to stroke your cheek. you fall into his touch and his throat aches with affection. "this okay?"
you nod profusely. you've just never seen a man love Forrest the way Rhett does. in fact, you've never seen any man love Forrest at all.
"m'so happy," you whimper.
a smile tugs at Rhett's lips.
"thought you were so tired it scared ya?" he says.
you shake your head, sniffling.
"not anymore," you tell him.
he nods. and when he leans forward to press a kiss to your forehead, his scruff delicately scratching your skin, Forrest finally starts to quiet. he's still crying, sure, but Rhett reckons he would be, too, if he was cutting three teeth at once.
"get some rest, mama," Rhett insists, muffled from your own skin. "we've got this, alright? me and Forrest're gonna be just fine."
