troupe gramarye makes me soooooo crazy oh my fucking god why are they LIKE THAT ohhhhhhmygod. valant who was always second-best, second-best to magnifi, to zak, to thalassa, wasn’t worthy of being an heir, wasn’t worthy of being loved back, wasn’t worthy of anything. roger who was just a teenager when magnifi gramarye took him in and barely an adult when he kicked him to the curb. just a stupid kid who was too prideful for his own good. lost his job lost his home lost his family and didn’t know what to do except slip into a fake version of himself out of the raw shame. thalassa who woke up scared and alone and in darkness, nobody by her side. her father abandoned her. her father abandoned her. the two people she loved the most didn’t even know she was alive. she lost her son. she didn’t know what happened to her daughter. she didn’t know anything. she was lost and afraid and her own father abandoned her and she didn’t know what to do except do what she was told. zak who was a terrible person, a terrible father, but still had to shoulder the guilt of believing he killed the person he treasured more than anyone else, still carried a picture of trucy next to his heart for seven years, still loved valant like a brother. trucy who lost all of her family. doesn’t quite remember what her daddy looked like, doesn’t even know who her mother is, doesn’t even have the privilege of being looked at by her uncle without seeing the sadness that fills his eyes when he does. fuck magnifi for ever and ever i think

troupe gramarye is soooo funny. theyre all insane and horrifically mentally ill and they all just hate each other. i just know reus told zak and valant their mothers buy them mega blox instead of legos. i just know thalassa and valant would beat each other over the head with metal pipes. sibling core. i just know that zak and thalassa were insufferable to be around. they go to ikea showrooms and pretend to be a toxic married couple. the entire troupe all fight eachother with their stupid magic props. reus has shot valant with an arrow more than once. zak and valant fight each other for the sexual tension of it and have gotten into a homoerotic swordfight multiple times. thalassa is aware of this and thinks its funny. she and reus have lunch every week where they just spend time bitching. magnifi killed himself bc of these mfs i swear

I love how Apollo and Retinz represent the red and black jokers respectively.

Lemme explain! So, we already know that Retinz represents a joker in a deck of cards due to his costume. Jokers are not usually used in any card games, and aren’t useful to the deck unless they fill in for another card. It’s a wild card; a card that can represent ANY card in a deck. That aspect of jokers can reference how Retinz says that his magic is greater than Trucy’s—he can do ANYTHING, after all. (Ha- HA!)

The Joker can also be the most beneficial or harmful card in the game. Beneficial can reference how he could have been very useful to Troupe Gramarye had he not been arrogant and had a strong desire to be in the spotlight without consideration for what the Troupe’s main principle was: making their audience happy, and as such Magnifi fired him. (I do still feel like Magnifi could have done literally anything else than just firing him… but then again Magnifi’s a control freak, so I guess that’s too much to ask from him.) Harmful can reference that he could literally do whatever he wanted, (as a joker can) and straight up almost got everything taken away from the WAA.

So, who could and did beat a black joker, the supposed most powerful card in the game?

The red joker, Apollo.

Because when it comes to cards… the red or colored joker always outranks the black joker. There was one other Gramarye that was ousted out of the troupe or just never truly recognized as a Gramarye, and that was Apollo.

Also, you know how in AA4, the first case is called Turnabout Trump Card? Jokers were originally made to be trump cards. I feel like that was referring to Apollo, in a way, too, because that was his introductory case, and without him, I doubt Phoenix would have been able to get acquitted. Kristoph and Phoenix were definitely guiding him, but if he specifically wasn’t there, I think Phoenix probably would’ve gotten arrested. It… probably relates to the important piece of evidence in the case, but still, maybe this theory holds a little water.

Agh- this was all kind of a jumble of thoughts, but I hope this made sense. xD

Uendo may be one of the best representations of DID in media lmao 😂 all of his personalities are nice and distinct, some of them "front" easily while others need a specific trigger, Kisegawa isn't treated as weirder for being a woman in a male body (does she count as the first canonically trans character in AA?), and he even has a little! (which, horrifically, implies something horrible happened to him as a child...)

And generally speaking, he's treated with respect. Yes, they rely on the stereotype that one of his personalities may be the murderer of the case, but 1) it's AA, every witness gets accused eventually, and 2) it's quickly proven wrong anyway.

Uendo is just nice, man. He's funny, pretty cooperative all things considered, doesn't hold it against Geiru when she reveals why she pinned the blame on him, and he has every understandable reason to be protective of Owen - this tracks with DID people being protective of their littles. I think that if people don't like him, they simply don't like 6-4, which is a pretty controversial case tbf.

So yeah, Uendo is my favorite character in SoJ. I also loved to hate Roger Retinz: he was an absolute scumbag throughout 6-2, but it was entirely intended. And then he's revealed to be pretty smart under his sleazy persona. A good "final" villain to the Gramaryes.

Paul Atishon is similarly hilarious to hate lol. my man just. leaves the stand when he doesn't want to answer fhjdkhfjkshfksdj. (also literally best punny name since Luke Atmey don't @ me)
