The Old Sixteen
Bedford 16 June 2023
You may notice that, having promised a trip to Cambridge yesterday, that I wrote ‘Bedford’ and not ‘Cambridge’ as the location for this entry. There’s a good reason for this - I decided that I simply did not want to ride the bus today. There’s something about public buses that just unaccountably frustrates me. I can’t really explain what it is.
So while Mum and my stepfather rode off to Cambridge, I hung around here in Bedford, and just before lunch I took a walk to the war memorial on Goldington Green. This isn’t Bedford’s main war memorial - that’s by the River Ouse, on the embankment - but it’s still a pretty little memorial and well worth a look.
Tumblr media
The Bedfordshire Regiment (which became the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Regiment after the war, and is now part of 2nd Battalion Royal Anglians) traces its lineage back to the Glorious Revolution, where it was raised by James II to fight William of Orange - they promptly switched sides, like most of the army. They became the 16th Foot in 1751, fighting in the American Revolutionary War and in the West Indies in the 1790s (where they were practically wiped out by tropical disease.) The 16th remained in England throughout the Napoleonic Wars, and spent most of the 19th Century deployed on Imperial service; in India, Canada and Africa. They became the Bedfordshires in 1881.
Twelve battalions of the regiment were raised during the First World War, although about half spent the war on garrison or training duties. The regulars of 1st and 2nd Battalions fought on the Western Front throughout the war, with the 1st being present at the BEF’s first battle at Mons. The 4th (Special Reserve) went to the Western Front as reinforcements, as were the 6th, 7th and 8th (Service) Battalions, which were broken up to provide reinforcements to other battalions in early 1918 - the BEF was running low on reinforcements at this time. The 5th (Territorial) Battalion was landed at Suvla in August 1915, and went on to fight in Palestine.
Tumblr media
With six battalions in the thick of the fighting on the Western Front throughout the war, and one active throughout the war against the Ottoman Empire, the number of names on this otherwise modest memorial starts to make sense. Goldington - and dozens of other villages around Bedfordshire - must have faced losses that we would consider unbearable now, and frankly would have been unbearable then. Scarce wonder Britain was so determined not to do it all again in the 1930s. We damn Chamberlain, and it’s my opinion that he wasn’t a terribly great political operator, but can we really blame him, or the British public, for recoiling from war with the Nazis? One would have had to be mad to want to relive the horrors of the Western Front.
But of course, war did come again - one even more terrible than the last. And thousands of war memorials like Goldington had to be updated with new lists of names; new butcher’s bills for the war of 1939-45. And then for Korea, and Malaya, and the Falklands, and Iraq and Afghanistan. And again and again and again…

A veteran of the 4th Battalion, The Royal Anglian Regiment was kind enough to let me photograph his medals and pins after the Remembrance Sunday parade and service at Greenford's war memorial. They indicate his service in Aden where the regiment was deployed between 1964 and 1967. #lestweforget #remembrance #Aden #veterans #Greenford #LondonBoroughofEaling #London #UK #November2022 #suburbs #suburban #suburbia #photography

British, Oman Soldiers Team Up for Desert Challenge
Tumblr media
Over the past two weeks, British troops have been polishing their desert warfighting abilities on a training field six times the size of Salisbury Plain (3-14 February). During their four-month deployment to Oman, they were participating in Operation Khanjar Oman, the first major training exercise. In the joint training facility in Ras Madrakah, soldiers worked alongside the Royal Army of Oman as they prepared for a simulated assault on an adversary metropolitan area.

At the same time, it offered a chance to hone crucial soldiering abilities, such as soldiering in harsh settings, collaborating with ally forces, and discovering battle-winning strategies to defend the British public from future threats.

MOD.   Battlegroup Commander Lt Col Ben Hawes 2nd Battalion, The Royal Anglian Regiment, is preparing his troops to assume command of NATO’s Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF) in January 2024. He said: Since March last year, the focus of our training has been to ensure that we are ready to fight against a peer enemy force. This exercise is the UK ensuring that its spearhead battlegroup is in exactly the right place to go out the door. My troops have been absolutely put through their paces. Everything that our peer enemies could do to us, has been done to us. I’ve operated with every single one of my radio frequencies jammed, I’ve operated with no GPS, I’ve operated at night for long periods of time; we’ve done training serial after training serial. This is about our ability to operate and sustain an operation against an enemy that has the same, or maybe even greater capabilities than we do.   The 2nd Battalion of The Royal Anglian Regiment provided more than half of the soldiers who took part in the exercise. The Royal Logistics Corps, Royal Engineers, Royal Artillery, Royal Scots Dragoon Guards, 1st Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment, and Coastal Security Force all contributed in smaller numbers.

It is the British Army’s foremost annual training and defence engagement event to take place across the Gulf region, involving up to 1,000 British and 100 Omani soldiers. During deployment, British personnel undertake unit training, exercise with partners and provide a forward-based force capable of building regional security capabilities and responding to threats where they arise.   Sources: THX News & UK Ministry of Defence. Captured FLOSY Arms Cache
The photograph above shows a cache of arms, ammunition and explosives captured from the Front for the Liberation of Occupied South Yemen (FLOSY) during the Aden Emergency (1963-1968).
The photograph was taken by Private M. Arnold of the 3rd battalion, the Royal Anglian Regiment. The weapons and explosives were collected on operations by 3 Royal Anglian and other British units in Aden between October 1966 and May 1967, when the photograph was taken.
The cache includes two German MP40 submachine guns and 6 magazines, five pistol magazines that appear to be for a Walther P38, five Mills Bomb British hand grenades, a large quantity of pistol, probably 9x19mm, ammunition several boxes of rifle ammunition and a .303 Bren gun, probably a MkII, complete with spare barrel. In front of the Bren are four boxes of PE4 plastic explosive - the British version of C4. The British weapons were likely stolen from British or Aden police armouries while the MP40s were probably smuggled into Aden by FLOSY.
FLOSY along with the National Liberation Front (NLF) waged a campaign of attacks on British nationals in Aden in the run up to the granting of the region’s independence in 1968.

Imperial War Museum Duxford 15 June 2023
The east of England - specifically Cambridgeshire, East Anglia and Lincolnshire - is sometimes known as ‘bomber country.’ It was this region that housed the heavy bombers; the B-17s and B-24s of the US Eighth Air Force and the Lancasters and Halifaxes of RAF Bomber Command. Duxford Aerodrome, just outside Cambridge, was not one of these bases, but it still played a major part of the Combined Bomber Offensive (and of course the Battle of Britain - Czech, Polish and British squadrons flew from there during the height of the battle.) After 1943, it was occupied by the US 78th Fighter Group, flying P-47 and P-51 fighters to escort the bombers to their targets (or as close to their targets as fuel allowed) in Germany and occupied Europe.
We’ll discuss the moral dimension of the Combined Bomber Offensive on Tuesday; the human cost for the USAAF is evident in the nearby American cemetery. 26,000 airman of the Eighth Air Force were killed over Europe. The total number of casualties, 47,000, represented half of the entire total of USAAF casualties in the Second World War. In Bomber Command, it was even worse - 55,573 were killed, an astounding death rate of 44% of all personnel.
Tumblr media
Today, Duxford is the home of an annex of the Imperial War Museum. I went there with a good friend from Bedford to show them around; it’s always a very good time, and today was no exception. We noticed a lot of classic cars pottering around when we got there; I later found out that it was a car meet. Essentially, we got a full gauntlet of planes, cars, tanks and artillery. All that was missing were trains and boats.
The museum is divided between three purpose-built exhibition buildings and three hangers, and stretches along the length of the airfield. I’ll admit some of the exhibitions feel a little muddled - the big AirSpace building feels like a smorgasbord of random aircraft at times. Yet a smorgasbord of random aircraft is still a collection of aircraft, and sometimes that’s exactly what you want to see. Lancasters, Vulcans and Concordes are impressive machines wherever they are. Perhaps I am simply becoming a grumpy old man before my time.
Tumblr media
I have spoken about Duxford time and time again, but I never have difficulty coming up with highlights to bring up. There’s the He112 jet fighter being cosmetically restored in the conservation hall for example - I’m not certain I’ve ever seen one. There’s the Fairey Swordfish, the unassuming biplane torpedo bomber that crippled the Bismarck. There’s Montgomery’s M3 Grant command tank in the Land Warfare Hall, and an A10 Warthog in the American Air Museum that I swear wasn’t there before.
And there were Spitfires - lots and lots of Spitfires. I don’t think I’ve ever stopped to think about how many Spitfires there are at Duxford. I suppose you can never have too many.
Tumblr media
It’s also worth noting that Duxford contains the regimental museums of the Parachute Regiment and the Royal Anglian Regiment. The former is particularly impressive, and somewhat impressively it dedicates a placard to the infamous Bloody Sunday of 1972, where men of 1 PARA opened fire on civilians. I imagine there’s a lot of people who would say that it’s insufficient, but it’s a start.
Tumblr media
We grabbed McDonalds for lunch and headed back to Bedford, and I spent a quiet afternoon in. Tomorrow we’re taking the bus down to Cambridge proper, which ought to be an interesting day trip.

PART 5. PG and MM Anon💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
PC/…
Prince Charles he is the prince of Wales and the heir to the throne. He was married to Lady Diana Spencer. They had two sons we all know is William Arthur Philip Louis and Henry Charles Albert David otherwise Harry! He married Lady Diana Spencer on July 31, 1981 and they had a very rocky marriage and the long and short it ended very messy and finally HMTQ had to step in and tell them to divorce. It ended in divorce and we all know what happened with dear Diana and the subsequent effects on the boys and the family. Charles eventually did marry the love of his life in a civil ceremony HMTQ did not attend that because they’re they’re both divorced. They are now the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall. Camilla has done a lot of work very quietly and slowly to build a rapport with the people. I think she’s done a really good job of it and them together are very sweet, just a very sweet couple. When Charles ascends the Throne  it’s well-known that his goal is to  shorten or cut the budget. I guess  to  streamline things. He is very forward thinking that way. I think his agendas will be very much as they have been,  very focussed on sustainability and environmental issues,  that sort of thing. He she was environmentally aware before anybody. I remember when I was a kid, the press and others,  they were laughing and made fun of him for talking to his plants and being out in the garden, all these kind of things and how awful look at that you know that we shouldn’t be doing that.I’ll look at it’s a thing to do sustainability and farm to table and he was way ahead of the curve on that one. That’s also  way ahead of the curve in terms of architecture in his opinions on that he’s been criticized for but he did did become quite vocal about how with with the classic buildings that are centuries old and in these new modern buildings being built right next to it it just doesn’t fit somehow.
I don’t know for certain and I have never read it anywhere but I do believe he has some sort of auto immune disease because his face is so red so often and his hands are so red and they look so swollen and it in it just looks like it must be so painful. I don’t know what he has but I sure hope they’re giving him some I’m sure they’re giving him something for comfort and all that but I don’t know lupus I don’t know but he certainly has certainly his hands look so sore I just feel every time I see those swollen red hands I just saw my heart goes out.
W&K…… 💜💜🍼🍼🍼💜💜
Prince William was born June 21, 1982. Loved to see him squirming in the blanket as they walked out of the Lindo Wing, Charles all proud and Diana’s face flushed, dressed in the green and white polkadot dress with the bright red flat shoes oh my that was exciting how we waited for that little baby my goodness that was that was a great day!
Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, KG, KT, PC, ADC (William Arthur Philip Louis;[fn 1] born 21 June 1982) is a member of the British royal family. He is the elder son of Charles, Prince of Wales, and Diana, Princess of Wales. Since birth, he has been second in the line of succession to the British throne.
William was educated at four schools in the United Kingdom and studied for a degree at the University of St Andrews. During a gap year, he spent time in Chile, Belize, and Africa. In December 2006, he completed 44 weeks of training as an officer cadet and was commissioned in the Blues and Royals regiment. In April 2008, William completed pilot training at Royal Air Force College Cranwell, then underwent helicopter flight training and became a full-time pilot with the RAF Search and Rescue Force in early 2009. His service with the British Armed Forces ended in September 2013.He then trained for a civil pilot’s licence and spent over two years working as a pilot for the East Anglian Air Ambulance.
The greatest tragedy of William life with losing his mother Diana in a car accident when he was young and the greatest thing to happen to William ever was Catherine Middleton coming into his life! She was patient and the media or routes to her that you called her all sorts of names but she was patient. She loved him and he was not ready to commit and she waited and he was worth the wait and look look at the results now! A power couple that truly fit to get the name power couple and three beautiful amazing children.
Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, GCVO (born Catherine Elizabeth Middleton; 9 January 1982), popularly known as Kate Middleton, but prefers to be called by her proper name , and has NOT been Middleton since her marriage to William!Catherine is a member of the British royal family. Her husband, Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, is expected to become king of the United Kingdom and 15 other Commonwealth realms, making Catherine a likely future queen consort.
She grew up in the village of Chapel Row, part of Bucklebury near Newbury, in the Englishcounty of Berkshire. She studied art history in Scotland at the University of St Andrews, where she met William in 2001. Their engagement was announced in November 2010. They married on 29 April 2011 at Westminster Abbey. The couple’s children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis of Cambridge, are third, fourth, and fifth in the line of succession to the British throne, respectively.
The Duchess of Cambridge’s charity works focus mainly on issues surrounding young children, addiction, and art. To encourage people to open up about their mental health issues, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry (now the Duke of Sussex) initiated the mental health awareness campaign “Heads Together” in April 2016.The media have called Catherine’s impact on British and American fashion the “Kate Middleton effect”.In 2012 and 2013, Time magazine selected her as one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World.
In 2011, Prince William was made Duke of Cambridge and marriedCatherine Middleton. The couple have three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
OUR MAGNIFICENT MONARCHY ……… 👑💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Couple years ago I think it was ITV did add a series Victoria based on Queen Victoria’s life and that really brought things out again made people interested and watching that. I have read a bunch of books about Queen  Victoria she lived a fascinating life. She was open to anything any culture any she was so wise at such a young age and an ash as her rain progressed and different things happen so she was open to things and yet close to some other things. She had her Beautiful relationship with Prince Alberts. He was instrumental in so much of modernizing the UK the train rail the Parliament buildings and on and on the Royal Victoria and Albert Hall and on and on and on. Her brain was legendary! She wrote a journal she wrote and wrote and wrote and wrote and as she aged her daughter I can’t recall her name just now but she destroyed some of it and we wrote it in her own handwriting because she thought her mother wouldn’t want people to read certain things. Even  with her having done that, there are still just tomes and tomes of writings in Queen Victoria’s hand and it’s all available, I forget the website, but they put it all online. The national treasure Dr. Lucy Wursley has done awesome documentaries  on the monarchy,  just she’s outstanding! She is a national actually has an international treasure a commonwealth treasure!
Architecture music gardening scripture design it’s just an endless traditions recipes different dialects it’s just on and on and on and on that exists within the monarchy.
I love the traditions, Trooping the Colour, opening of parliament, the banging on the door the door slamming on the balcony with the fly past.I love the royal wedding. I love when they go to church at Christmas and then they walk out and I just love all of that stuff.I love seeing her Majesty every Sunday in the car looking to see what pin she’s wearing. I love brooches. I have, from Buckingham palace, to the official copy of the Mapleleaf brooch! My sister got that for me one year when she was in London and she went to  Buckingham palace specifically to get me that brooch because I collect brooches so I proudly on that.and I am all I have a book that was published in 1987 again the author part part of my brain is not working 100% right now but I got it for my birthday from my sister and it’s a vintage book from 1987 and it’s the Queen’s jewelleryCollection which I absolutely love and I also have Angela Kelly’s new book which my sister got me for Christmas so. You wouldn’t even want to know how much royalty stuff I have collected and I inherited them from my mother and I wouldn’t get rid of any of it I still have the newspapers from July 31, 1981 that we had to city newspapers at that time and so I have Charles and Diana’s wedding on on both of those and that was from my mom my mom say that so after my mom passed away no one else wanted that and of course I went out I took it faster than the end the year of the queens Jubilee Canada posted a whole Book of stamps special stamps and my sister got that for me and they were released each book of stamps and then at the very end then they release the book that way you can put your stamp in so I have that. And I ordered from the royal mail one last year when they did the Queen Victoria stamps I think it was 100 years since her death I think that’s what it was but it oh that’s awesome and I have a big board in my spare room where I keep all the stamps I have William and Catherine their engagement I have William and Catherine their wedding and I have her majesty and that you believe that these are all Canada post and I have that one from the royal mail I just wanna have postcards in there at all I just have so much stop and I love it all!

HOW TO INTERACT WITH ALEX MORAN/ENFIELD:
MEETING
ILLEGAL WORK - known as M or MORAN Alex will accept work as a thief, gun for hire, getaway driver or sniper. Depending on her training in the verse this can be adapted as needed, although she never acts like she is the one carrying out the job on the first interaction. She will work as an assistant or fixer, acting like she has someone else carry out this side. If you want double Morans, this is where she would like Sebastian take over. If not, then she’s going to get her own hands dirty and generally not take the credit unless she has to or the employers finds out. It can be up to you how long she manages to keep this rouse up, usually not too long if she’s in their regular employ. It’s more for one off jobs.
LEGAL WORK - known as ALEX ENFIELD She will take legal work as a bodyguard or private security to fill gaps as needed. Her resume talks about her service and qualifications. She will pretend to be an assistant or regular company worker as needed to hide her skillset, which is sometimes required depending on what the client wants.
PARTYING - known as ALEX She’s a self destructive party girl, and can often be found in bars or clubs looking to burn off steam. She’ll try not to give a name at all, but most places she frequents she defiantly has a reputation.
HOBBIES - known as ALEX She loves to run, she can often be found running in the parks around Islington/Highbury/Finsbury as needed. She’ll spend time in gyms and kickboxing classes occasionally, this is where she’s on her least guard.
HOME Alex lives near Upper St in Islington, and that’s her local area. Most of the bars she spends time in are in east London or over in Camden but sometimes she’ll go for a drink closer to home. She rents out the two flats below her and that could be a chance for her to meet your muse.
PRE-ESTABLISHED
SCHOOL - known as PETYA or ALEX MORAN Alex went to primary school locally in Southwold and her first secondary school there too till she turned 13. At 13 she left to go to an girls' boarding school on the outskirts of London, so this would be a great place to know a tiny hellraiser! I imagine there’s a boy school attached if your muse went there, or maybe she just used to sneak out to local pubs underage and met your muse there. It’s pretty suburban but she’d start off going by Alex there, your muse might even know her under her birth name. She’s pretty scary as a teenager and has a bit of a reputation...
UNIVERSITY - known as ALEX MORAN She attended St. Andrews in mainverse, and was on a whole bunch of sports teams so if your muse knew her from varsity or a loose uni connection that would totally work.
ARMY - known as MORAN She has three main army roles, she starts out with Royal Anglian Regiment 1st Battalion C Company, and stays with them for three years. In this time she’s pretty settled, probably the nicest she’s ever going to be. Both her brothers are in the army too, so if you don’t know her through her service maybe your muse knew them? She moves in her fifth year into UKSF, so special forces with the SRR. This is the only unit in the British that allows women on the front line. Her first role is as a specialist driver for a year and then she transitions out of that into a reconnaissance role with counter terrorism. If your muse was a spy/MI5 or 6/CIA/GCHQ/NSA then this would be easy enough to figure out a connection!
FAMILY Thomas Moran has served both in the House of Commons (As MP for Islington North, Shadow Education Secretary and Labour Whip) and is currently in the House of Lords (As Labour Whip) so if your muse has political connections they would know her name. If they don’t they might have seen him in the news a few times, especially during the Brexit coverage. Her sister is a barrister with the European Court of Human Rights and your muse might know her from there.
AU VERSES
BALLET - known as Alex Moran, Alex moved from London to NY at 19 and danced initially with the NY Ballet company. She got a bit of a name for herself here though as it came out she slept with the company director before she played her first lead. She danced only two shows before the made the move to join the Royal Ballet Company in London- where she had done the majority of her training. In London she starts dancing with Hamish Watson-Holmes, they get on amazingly well but given her horrible history with romantic entanglements she shuts down any potential feelings between them very early on. They agree to be professional only, even if she refers to Hamish as her husband almost constantly. He’s her platonic soulmate. After three years, they move to Denmark as they receive and offer from the Royal Danish Ballet to train there. If your muse knows anything of the ballet they might have heard of her as an initial rising star who’s fame faded, if not she has done a little modelling that might be where they recognise her from.
MUSIC - known as Alex or Magpie (stage name) Alex does open mic nights and gigs in music verse. She moved to Manchester for three years, and lives there working as a bartender afterwards. She has one cover get a decent amount of attention online after a few years, this is mainly played on those chill coffee shop covers playlists. She really wants to be a producer, and your muse might find her online over that. Her family is still the same as main verse but her brother Sebastian is MP for Holborn and St. Pancras as well as Chief Labour Whip so would be in the news often.
MODERN WITCH - known as Alex Moran Thomas Moran slayed a dragon, that’s pretty big news. His family are old and magical, the Moran name is connected with a long line of Irish pagan witches, even if they were known under Ó Móráin. He has donated much of the hoard they inherited to charitable magical causes and research. There are legends about powerful seers in the Ó Móráin clan, although they all died tragically and young. Alex is a bartender and car thief of a witch in London, she loves to steal anything she can get her hands on. She works in a witch-frequented bar and spends a lot of her time trying to figure out how to stay awake to stop her visions. Eventually she turns into a vampire and that could be fun if your muse wants to take a tiny newbie vamp under their wing.

AU VERSES
BALLET - known as Alex Moran Alex moved from London to NY at 19 and danced initially with the NY Ballet company.

Headcanon: Jonathan Carnahan Verses: Main, WW1
WW1 Service

{This is my own personal headcanon for Jonathan and the way I write him, so please do not reblog or duplicate!}

“I’ve had worse.”  “Yeah, me too.”

Age at start of service: 22 (1916) Age at end of service: 24 (1918) Age during The Mummy: 32 (1926)
Jonathan originally joined the war effort as part of the Egyptian Expeditionary Force when it was launched in 1916, but was shortly after sent to assist British troops on the Western Front, taking part in the Flanders offensive where he served under Captain Edmund Blackadder and the Royal Anglian Regiment (Infantry).
Most of Jonathan’s regiment perished in a ‘Big Push’ over the trenches to claim further ground from the Germans. He was lucky enough to escape with his life, a damaged shoulder and minor shrapnel wounds, but the psychological scars were deeper. Regardless, he was declared fit for service and reluctantly sent back to the trenches with many others terrified to return. Jonathan made it to the end of the fighting without being part of another dangerous offensive move like the one before, but the mere threat hung over his scattered troop at all times.
The decision to join up came after the death of his parents in 1913. After spending a year grieving with his younger sister, war broke out back home in Europe. Before the war and their bereavement, Jonathan had tried to build a reputation as a dealer in Ancient Egyptian artifacts, but never had much luck with his merchandise. Not to mention that Jonathan liked to socialise and was often more inclined to do that than focus on his work. At a loose end with his ambitions for life and seeing multiple friends and acquaintances signing up, Jonathan went along and applied as well, thinking it would all be a bit of a lark and an adventure among the Egyptian troops while performing his patriotic duty.
It swiftly became clear that war was neither fun nor games, and the gravity of his situation was worsened by the news that he would be one of thousands of other men heading to the Western Front. From there the danger spiraled and Jonathan witnessed many horrible deaths and injuries, as well as coping with all the discomfort of life in the trenches.
He became confident with firearms during his time in both regiments and keeps a pistol for his own protection, though he tries to avoid conflict like the plague. Some days are better than others, but even raised voices and shouting can set him on edge in the wrong state of mind. Nightmares are a common occurrence, still as vivid but growing less frequent as time wore on- but that’s what wine and whiskey are for.
Despite being haunted by his time in Flanders, Jonathan manages to keep himself afloat mentally. There’s a dark chasm in the back of his mind where memories of the war are buried, one which he has walked the edges of many times with the risk of toppling in. However, he put a great deal of his time and energy into watching out for Evelyn, who was doing far better than him in regards to keeping a respectful job.
When he returned to Egypt, Jonathan had the knowledge, but he did not have the heart to pursue a steady career like Evie did. Instead he turned his attention to various archaeological digs across the country, always on the lookout for valuables that could be sold to the highest bidder rather than preserved in a museum. He became a treasure seeker, but the items he squirreled away from the desert sand were never worth enough.
The money which he did manage to acquire for these bits and pieces usually went towards alcohol and gambling, vices which Jonathan still has in the present day. Sometimes, only for lack of other buyers, he’d bring various finds to Evelyn and see if the curator of the museum was interested, but even this proved unsuccessful.
Jonathan always dreamed he’d find something spectacular, something which would give him all the money he desired and perhaps even make him feel close to his deceased parents again, whom he feels he hasn’t made proud. It wasn’t until he slipped a strange looking little box out of the pocket of a drunken stranger that he felt his luck was finally about to change.
