𝐀𝐂𝐓 𝐈 - 𝐁𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬.
September 5, 1940. A day so insignificant at first sight, was taking shape for everyone. Everyone? No, not for our protagonist. Entering the camp grounds, the sun shining on her long platinum hair and the wind caressing her delicate face, a mocking smile slowly settled on the thin lips of the young woman who was scanning the camp and its inmates, her gaze similar to that of an inquisitor, without an ounce of compassion crossing her soul, so young, and already so dark. Escorted by two sturdy, valiant soldiers, they didn't hesitate to chat, trying to extract a few words from the young woman's mouth, but only to fail. She was hardly inclined to talk to them, addressing only her superiors, without really showing any interest in anyone "inferior" to her. And, in any case, she was too busy looking at what was waiting for her, peering at the dark place whose doors she had entered a few moments earlier, with a certain amusement. Yes, if she had accepted this offer, it certainly wasn't for this place, so macabre, so…sinister. No, she was there simply because, by gracing the premises with her presence, she'd have everything she wanted at her fingertips. Who would be foolish enough to refuse such an offer? Still, she kept on walking, until she came to a large building, divinely maintained, contrasting with the apparent dirtiness of the rest of the camp. Certainly the administration and SS quarters, she mused, her intuition hardly deceiving her. Taking on a more serious air, she entered and made her way naturally to the office of the commandant, a man named Rudolf Hoess. She didn't seem to have heard of him before, but she let herself in, facing an unimpressive man who glared at her for a moment, then sighed and said wearily:
"I suppose you're the famous 'Chosen One' everyone keeps talking about? Rudolf Hoess. Third door on the left, going into the corridor on the right." Abruptly, he put his money where his mouth was, while the young woman simply nodded, suppressing a smile, amused by this man who seemed so boorish, and so unsociable.
"Indeed," she retorted with astonishing ease, seemingly used to be introduced as such an honorous title, "that's how our Führer's followers define me, although I don't consider myself to have any particular talent, apart from an intelligence frighteningly superior to that of this entire camp put together, which I can say with certainty. Besides, since my reputation precedes me, I suppose I don't need to introduce myself, hmm?
- I can see that you're modest too," he added, his tone sarcastic as he rolled his eyes. Yes, this woman was getting on his nerves, even though she'd only said a few words. And to answer your question, yes, you've made a name for yourself quickly, but that doesn't exempt you from using good manners. Remember, if you "honor" us with your presence here, it's only because you've caught the Führer's eye, nothing more. And his interest in you may be waning, so if I were you, I wouldn't brag so much. Now, go to your room and try not to bother me. Clever as you are, I suppose that will be an easy task."
Raising her eyes to the sky, she left the premises, her amused smile never leaving her; on the contrary, it seemed to have widened. Following the directions given by the man she considered a misanthrope, even though they had only interacted once, she quickly arrived at a door, above which was her name, followed by her first name. Lenn Silva-Stavinski. She hurried in, setting down her belongings, and quickly surveyed the room. It was an ordinary room, with immaculate white walls and a small, simple bed whose sheets had already been laid out. There was also a mahogany desk and matching chair, on which she placed her bag before stretching and heading for the closet. Opening it, she discovered with unfeigned relief that her belongings had already been placed inside, meticulously arranged as she had requested. Scanning the room with her eyes for a moment more, she remained like this for a while, before settling down quietly on the bed, having picked up her bag and placed it beside her. Searching for a brief moment, she took out a leather notebook and a case, which she placed on the desk before settling in, opening the notebook and taking the quill out of its case, before beginning to blacken the sheets, writing those very few words:
Finally arrived at Auschwitz. I'll soon be able to begin my work, and I hope it will be conclusive.

Niklas Frank talking to people about his father Hans Frank in Hitler's Children (2011) documentary
Dir.Chanoch Ze'evi
Bettina Göring is the great-niece of Nazi official Hermann Göring. Katrin Himmler is the great-niece of Heinrich Himmler, second in command of the Nazi Party under Adolf Hitler. Rainer Höß is the grandson of Rudolf Hoess, creator and commandant of the Auschwitz Concentration Camp. Niklas Frank is the son of Hans Frank, Polish Governor-General during WWII, he who was responsible for the ghettos and concentration camps in Nazi occupied Poland. Monika Hertwig is the daughter of Amon Goeth, commandant of the Plaszów Concentration Camp. None with Nazi leanings, the five talk individually about what it is like to carry a name associated with the Nazi Party, being a blood relative to someone associated with hate and murder, being German at a time when that in and of itself was seen as being associated with Naziism, dealing with their family regardless of their allegiance to the Nazi Party, and if they feel any guilt associated with the actions of their infamous ancestor. In addition to these musings, Hoess and journalist Eldad Beck - a third generation Holocaust survivor - travel back to Auschwitz to revisit their shared ancestral past. And Frank tells in his writings and in public speaking engagements, most to school aged children, of his past of being the direct beneficiary to many of the Nazi Party's favors which in turn is partly the reason he denounces his parents.

Everyone involved in the holocaust were individual human beings, including victims, perpetrators, bystanders and collaborators. Rudolf Hoess lived with his family at Auschwitz-Birkenau as an SS guard. His family described their time living there as a happy time. Despite the fact he killed people he was still human. Learning the stories of perpetrators, bystanders and collaborators helps us understand why and how the holocaust happened more thoroughly. For example, many women joined the SS as it was a chance to travel Europe as they could be stationed in places like Paris.

Must We Bare a Burden of Guilt for the Sins of Our Fathers?
Must We Bare a Burden of Guilt for the Sins of Our Fathers?
Suppose for a moment that your mother dropped you off at an orphanage when you were just an infant.  Although she could not, or would not, care for you, she did remain a part of your life.  She would occasionally pick you up and take you to visit your grandmother.  Those were good times, for you adored your grandmother.  She was always happy to see you, and you were able to experience from her…

Anniversary of Auschwitz liberation
today. I've been there many years ago, as a translator for Spanish TV crew, filming a documentary about concentration camps. After watching an archival footage from the liberation, we all, men and women, cried uncontrollably. An old man working at a stand selling books about Auschwitz showed us a yellowed photo from Rudolf Hoess execution as a war criminal, and said "I was a prisoner here. He's dead, and I'm alive". I've seen the mountain of clothing, an enormous pile of glasses, the hair, things described below. If you don't know about Auschwitz, or who Rudolf Hoess was, or what happened there - EDUCATE YOURSELF. You will understand better why there CAN'T BE ANY DIALOGUE WITH THE NAZIS.
From Wikipedia: "About 7,000 prisoners had been left behind, most of whom were seriously ill due to the effects of their imprisonment. Most of those left behind were middle-aged adults or children younger than 15. Red Army soldiers also found 600 corpses, 370,000 men's suits, 837,000 articles of women's clothing, and seven tonnes (7.7 tons) of human hair."
Edited to add: this is not an opportunity for a contest “who suffered most”, but you should know: the death toll includes 960,000 Jews (865,000 of whom were gassed on arrival), 74,000 non-Jewish Poles, 21,000 Roma, 15,000 Soviet prisoners of war, and up to 15,000 other Europeans. Those not gassed died of starvation, exhaustion, disease, individual executions, or beatings. Others were killed during medical experiments. Categories of prisoner: political, criminals, asocial, which included vagrants, prostitutes and the Roma, Jehovah's Witnesses, gay men, Jews. The nationality of the inmate was indicated by a letter stitched onto the cloth. A racial hierarchy existed, with German prisoners at the top. Next were non-Jewish prisoners from other countries. Jewish prisoners were at the bottom.

Today's Flickr photos with the most hits were taken at Dachau, near Munich.
Dachau was the first, and archetype, of Concentration Camps. It was created in April, 1933, within three months of the Nazis rise to power. The brutalities familiar to all were first practised here. Its staff were schooled in torture, depravity, arbitrary violence.
Once schooled, and practised, they were often promoted to other camps to establish the model efficiently elsewhere. Among those: Rudolf Hoess - commandant of Auschwitz.
The photos show the Russian Orthodox memorial chapel, and the corridor of the prison block. Niemoller was housed here.
