MARVEL GIRL (CLASSIC/MCOC) Jean Grey

The Idea A playable Marvel Contest of Champions character in the Mutant class with telepathy-based powers that mess with the Summoner somehow (like Emma Frost’s powers do, by reversing the Summoner’s controls).

She could appear in the original classic green-and-yellow look, or the MCOC NPC variation, or her X-Men Blue look, or her Original X-Men uniform.

She could flex a base palette of Jean’s original powers weaker, which can be enhanced to some of Jean’s learned powers depending on synergies.

Synergy In keeping with the synergy idea above, pairing her with Professor X could amplify her telepath powers significantly. Pairing her with a symbiote could give her a “Psychic Physiology” boost allowing her to shrug most physical damage. A “Telekinetic Weapons Training” synergy with Psylocke would give her Physical strikes added Energy Damage with each strike. Pairing her with Phoenix or any Phoenix Force character would give her Incinerate and a Revive, etc.

Pairing her with any Mutant, perhaps when her signature is unlocked, could give her a Neural Jumpstart ability that can enhance their powers-related damage or chances by X%.

Future champs with whom she would most obviously synergize would be Rachel Summers, Hope Summers, Stryfe, Madelyne Pryor, X-Man, and of course Professor X. Her release could be timed with a buff to either or both existing Cyclops to create a mutual synergy.

She has appeared in multiple load screens and in-game art over the years. (See “HISTORY” section below.)

And Summoners

She’s not currently on the MCOC Wishlist Poll. It’s difficult to quickly determine how often she has been requested on the message boards, but it’s at least several times.

Summoner Jh_dez offered a workup of a Jean Grey with a “Marvel Girl” Special 3 that power drains and locks the opponent for 10 seconds. Awakened, she is immune to controls reversal and has 100% chance to Stun with her S3.

March 4, 2020 content creator Rich the Man predicted that the large square at the center of the X-Men Blue area of the State of the Battlerealm map will be a young Jean Grey like the Marvel Girl from the X-Men Blue comic book series. (Full Breakdown)

December 2019 the Marvel-Girl-ish Jean Grey from the July 2016 in-game slider was depicted in-game again during the 5th Anniversary Event.

HISTORY

October 14, 2016, concluding the three-month Terrigenocide event, a playable version of Jean Grey was finally introduced in Phoenix.

September 2016, during the Terrigenocide III (“Terrigenocide: Terminus”) Event Quest (Part II having come out in August), a Dark Phoenix version of Jean Grey was seen as an NPC in the Event Quest. The Marvel Girl version did not surface.

July 2016, during the Terrigenocide I Event Quest, the Marvel Girl Jean Grey—who had yet to enter the game in any form—was depicted on load screens, in-game slider art, and other collateral, including a motion comic.

On June 17, 2016, mcoc mod leaked fight footage of a Marvel Girl version of Jean Grey fighting her best friend, Storm, on an MCOC fight stage.

As seen in the video, she has a different look than the classic green dress or the classic green-and-yellow Phoenix uniform.
