Long hair Macaque, my beloved-

No but srsly, one of my favourite designs is just long hair mac and in this au Mammy's figure is just mostly hair.

I was trying to recreate this screenshot:

Obviously there's some difference like I tend to draw a bit chibi (big heads) and I didn't want to make Mac's hair THAT voluminous-

I wanted to achieve sort of a gypsy vibe with these little skrimblos

AND THEN I FOUND THESE:

And I could NOT pass it up.

So yeah...

Oh! And I also gave the sparkly drip to their ears

(Sh!t I just realised, I forgot the shadow creatures... I'll see if I can add them in later)

I COULDN'T for the life of me figure out the hundred yard stare to match with Mac's sharp eyes (how I draw him) and not make it look goofy so I made them spoopy and glowing instead

I sadly don't have much to say about Bai He here since her black hair didn't leave that much room for shading in a darkened environment (I'm so sorry) And this piece was to show off Mac's design more anyway (I promise Bai He will get her spotlight)

(Also Bai He, nor Mk nor Macaque wears shoes. Wukong is the only one in the family who does and I find that funny)

But oh! The hair? Here comes the fun part

(No his hair isn't purple, I just used purple to shade here)

You see I WAS going to use black hair for this photo but i soon realised how much of a pain it was just to shade it (cause i couldn't) and I was just WISHING I could use his white fur instead

And then I realised....

The white fur could be his winter coat.

Some animal's shed their fur in the winter (I think some rabbits do) and grow a new coat, occasionally with a different colour.

Therefore I could make the white fur the winter coat and during the story, his fur could be black to show how much time has passed since Bai He last saw her Baba...

Mwuahahahahahhahahahaha I'm so evil

(Also I know macaques don't grow winter coats but just let me have this one ok?)

And why doesn't Bai He have white fur as well then? Well maybe she's just a different kind of monkey or perhaps it's just an age thing.

Funnily enough, when I showed this to my friend, she said he looked heavenly which is funny cause. As much as I love him, Macaque is a smug bastard and he knows it.

Like I know a lot of it was due to trauma BUT STILL

I just personally dislike how the fandom sometimes makes him seem like he could do no wrong and he is "uwu delicate babygirl that needs to be protected at all costs" when this boi is fockin FERAL man.

So despite taking a bit of a back seat in the main plot for this au, Macaque is still a smug bastard behind the scenes as much as he is a good dad

Somehow, reading all those barbarian AUs kind of got me thinking on what would be their myths and scary tales and monster...So I went ahead and turned poor Prowl into a Shadowalker (in my brain, those would be mechs who become one with shadows and can use them to travel through them, they may also prey on the life force of living things whose shadows they hide in to slowly drain away energy.)

Shadowalkers are infected by other shadowalkers, though how they become infected is not really known. Once a mech is infected one of the eyes begins to display an unnatural green glow, in some cases the lense of the eye itself becomes red.

Prowl was a citizen on one of the ‘civlized’ cities where he was part of law enforcement, and once he noticed he was in the first stages of infection he began to wear a dark glass eyepiece but once he was found out he was exciled.

The damage to his face was done by one of his partners in law enforcement when he was found and immediately exiled, so now he walks the world alone as a Shadowalker.

More on the Gwendalavir AU! (and there's still more coming)

The Glove of Ambarinal is an archery glove linked to a bow in another dimension. Whoever wears the glove can feel, see and use the bow, along with an infinite supply of arrows. It's a relic from 1500 years ago, created by an extremely powerful Designer. In canon, it is owned by a renowned Shadowalker, but for the purposes of this AU, there are two gloves.

Fujiko joined the Shadowalkers' Guild, went through an exhausting three-years training and nerve-wracking trials with a very strict and demanding master, in order to join the Guild, get closer to the its Council and the owner of the glove, and steal it. She would have succeeded, if Lupin hadn't swooped in at the last second and stolen it right from under her nose to give it to Jigen.

Originally, Lupin wanted to steal the left glove from Jilano Alhuin, one of (if not THE) most talented and admired masters of the Shadowalkers' Guild, because "sweet I get to have a fun challenge AND a neat gift for my boyfriend all in one". But Jigen told him he wanted the glove right now and not in ten years, so Lupin stole the right glove from a less tricky target, with the intention of going for the left one later.

The Glove of Ambarinal is now the biggest source of conflict and rivality between Jigen and Fujiko (beside all the other problems like Fuji's chronic backstabbing syndrom). She's trying to steal it from him, but he literally sleeps with it on.

Fujiko: I want to own this very precious artifact that belongs to a high-ranking member of a highly secretive guild. I will therefore follow a long and difficult training in order to become a member of that guild, get closer to the owner of the artifact, and steal it. Lupin: Haha imma sneak in the Council room through the vents and steal this neat glove for my boyfriend

So i’ve finished the first book and I am Thinking about this Ewilan AU/crossover thing with tog but not in the way I first thought about.

At first I was thinkin of Joe and Nicky as Ewilan and Salim but the personality really don’t fit, nor the ages or role in the story. Nile fits perfectly as Ewilan but I have no idea who to put as Salim and honestly, Ewilan without Salim wouldn’t have made far, they’re a core to the story. So I’m stuck

But all the other character? Andy, Quynh, Booker and even Lykon can fit perfectly in the story, and especially Andy as Edwin and Quynh as Ellana, it’s so so perfect so I’m wondering if it shouldn’t be a andromaquynh thing rather and scrap thrying to fit the books storyline.

Because Edwin is this fighter/knight that’s old and has numerous legend on his name, the rightouse but jadded authority figure, amazing. Quynh is a shadowalker, basically thief guild but cooler because they value freedom and honor. Edwin saves Ellana’s life and she swear to save his 3 time before she can be free of her debt. Spoiler alert, they fall in love and it’s great. And honestly? fit the vibe so well for the way Andy and Quynh met in canon

Sevenfold is a KHR God/Mythology AU that imagines various KHR characters as deities, powerful spirits, and personifications of the universe.

Additionally, I plan on writing a fic that goes into the religion portion of this, with views of the gods and their stories seen from the mortal POV, so if you have any questions about that sort of thing (shrines, ceremonies, daily life impact, etc), please feel free to send me an ask about them or leave a comment about it!

Yeah have y'all heard of a film called Wolfwalkers? If not, I'd really recommend especially to mythology or animation fans.

But anyways this is basically that but with lmk I'm thinking of calling this au shadowalkers instead though.

Idk if I'm gonna update too much other than a later post explaining a bit of lore but ehh we'll see how this goes

(Ps I know someone else has already made a lmk wolfwalkers au on Ao3 but I forgot the damn name of it. I did have this idea before I saw that fiction and we do have different lore but regardless, if anyone can find the link, I'd still like to tag them)

The little glowing footprints and face in Mk's shadow are a hint for his t r a n s f o r m a t i o n

(Also no, I have not forgotten about shenanigans in space, I just have other brainrot rn and an upcoming different au so stay tuned for that!)

I will say, I do hope this was worth the wait and there are noticable improvements!

Honestly pretty proud of this piece!

(Also sorry I couldn't post this earlier, I had to complete some work before finishing this ^u^')

and see! I did promise Bai He the spotlight and y'all received!

I will admit, I MIGHT have gotten a bit carried away with the embelishments and embroidery but COME ON.

I know practically speaking, there wouldn't be this much embroidery and pattern on her outfit for someone living in the wild and well... a monkey BUT STILL

I just wanted her to match with Mac and achieve that gypsy look is all! I already went full force with him so why not give a little pizazz to his daughter?

(BTW, ALL members of the shadowalkers fam will eventually get their own tulle shawl/wrap thingy. You'll just have to wait for me to design Wukong & Mk)

Headcanon that Mac & Bai He made parts of their clothes together and while Mac was busy doing his own thing, Bai He befriended a cat but it got it's paws in the paint and walked all over her shawl. Then Mac comes back to the mess and Bai He decides to keep it like that. XD

Also Bai He was learning sewing and stuff (cause she rips her own clothes so often she needs to learn how to patch it up) and did the embellishments by herself and was so proud of it afterwards. (Like if Mac can get clouds on his robe in canon, then Bai He can have flowers and butterflies on her dress)

Actually y'know what? No this isn't headcanon. This is canon to the au now.

I was originally going to place the embellishments at the hem of the dress almost like a trim, but that looked too uniform so then I remembered Mirabel's dress and took inspo from that.

Additionally, I kind of retconned the purple dress in Mac's piece. I knew pink was kind of Bai He's signature but I just didn't know how well that pastel/barbie pink would fit into the foresty background but hey! We got there eventually.

You might also notice that her wristbands are present this time!

Maybe as she got older, Macaque started teaching her how to make more stuff (he is an artist after all; made his own plays, drawings, a video game) he helped her make her wristbands.

At first they were just going to have her name engraved into it but then I remembered Macaque's lantern and how it used the character for light in it's design and I thought that was super cool so I kinda stole it for my design heh...

Mei was actually a bit last minute cause Merlin wasn't in the original shot but I wanted to give Mei some screentime too since she is rather underrated. And it was a fun challenge to shade her feathers

Not much to say bout' MK, he's just good ol Mk in this one.

I will admit the hair was a little tricky here cause again: shading dark hair is a pain in the &ss but the yellow sunlight made it a bit easier

Surprisingly the hardest part of this was the background

Turns out colour picking directly from screenshots won't ALWAYS work (^~^')

Shadowalkers Au

Ok so I said I was gonna make this so here we go...

(I literally came up with this idea in the subway help) (I'm going to assume y'all have watched the movie)

Basically: Lmk cast in Wolfwalkers.

BUT

There is a little bit of different lore here

For starters, they're not wolves anymore. (it just didn't really make sense to me to make them into a different animal especially since both celestial primates can do the 72 transformations like it's no biggie) They're more like the enormous f*ck you smoke monster that Macaque introduced in his first episode. So you're a person when you're awake and a shadow when you're asleep.

Macaque takes the role of Mammy here and Bai He the role of Mebh Xiaotian plays Robyn and Wukong as Goodfellowe, ok? ok.

Bai He gets to be a little gremlin, Mk is big brother, Wukong is Good Dad TM and while not in here as much, Mac is also Good Dad TM

Now Mk and Wukong are regular stone monkeys from a far away mountain (SWK doesn't have all his OP taoist superpowers here). Their old home was burned down and they were forced to move. Wukong was already serving as a disciple under master Tripitaka when he took in a baby MK as his own. Tripitaka sadly perished in the fire.

The new town they move to is called the Diyu ruled under the 10th king in a long line of monarchs (why the background seemed so dark and a bit sinister in the last pic). Wukong serves as a hunter to get rid of all the shadow creatures in the nearby woods who seem to have a mind of their own.

But why get rid of them? Well you know how in the mythos, the Diyu was the land of the dead? Well in this au, Shadowalkers are known to be real but very rare and they have the power of healing and are said to be able to control the line between life and death. See what I'm getting at here?

Now because of Wukong's intense fear of death, and in this au he'd already been taught by the monk and now has a son of his own to worry about and without the layers of immortality to shield him, I figured, he'd be a lot more cautious and closer to Goodfellowe in this way. He'd still be more carefree and playful of course but he's still under the firm grip of the command of the king. (the circlet thingys on his gloves also signifies this)

The majority of the population here are humans since I wanted to single out Mk and SWK here and it just made sense so for the majority of the time, they wear cloaks so as to not frighten everyone.

Ok so about the abilities of the shadowalkers, oh boy,

One, they can heal. Two, they have their smoke monster like forms. Three, they can travel through shadows themselves and mare most powerful at night. When they travel in the shadows, they're flat like the surfaces they travel on. And like in the movie, a bite from a shadowalker can turn you into a shadowalker too.

Also concentrated light can hurt them. So for example a flame-tipped arrow can hurt them but not a small ray of sunlight.

Mk sneaks out after his dad one day (idk who could play the role of merlin here) and somehow finds Bai He and gets bitten in the woods. They bond and it's just an adorable thing yada yada.

At night, Mk finds out he's become a shadowalker and finds Bai He. She teaches him their ways and he returns home only to be found by the town who freak out. Wukong himself tries to impale him with his staff but fails. Mk is able to escape and make his way into the palace.

He finds a humongous smoke monster in a cage (aka macaque) and deduces that this must be Bai He's missing dad. But when he tries to free him, Mac tells him to get Bai He and leave cause it's to dangerous and Mk gets found by the king himself.

He wakes up in his person body and tells whoever plays Merlin to find Bai He and leave. She doesn't believe this and runs into town to find MK who's working and reluctantly does what she's told but feels betrayed.

Then she hears word that they were going to execute a giant shadow creature that the king had caught and runs to find it as she realized that they were talking about her dad.

She finds him all caged up and to stop her from getting hurt, Mk calls over to the village kids that he's caught the monster and they put her in a wooden cage (noo...the babies...)

Bai He breaks out anyways, runs to her dad and Wukong is told to catch the girl but Mac ain't having that no no no.

He goes from 0 to 100 and bites Wukong in the arm, giving Bai He the chance to escape but being locked up again in the process. Bai He declares war on the town and runs off.

We have the whole confrontation scene between MK and his dad and Mk frees Mac and they run off to escape. And FINALLY Macaque can reunite with his daughter (see I can be nice...)

...before getting impaled by Wukong's magic staff (nevermind)

Bai He flees with the shadow creatures and the dying spirit of her father while MK tries to follow after them with Wukong holding him back. Mk falls asleep and transforms in front of his dad before the army caught up.

We have the whole climax battle between the imperial forces of the Diyu and the shadows + WUKONG GETS TO TRANSFORM INTO HIS 3 HEADED KAIJU WAR FORM HERE WOOOOOOOOOOOOO

(if you couldn't tell, I have a soft spot for this gremlin)

Then we have my personal favourite scene where the kids heal Macaque and HE'S ALIVE AGAIN YAY

They welcome Wukong into their troupe and FINALLY are able to leave and find their new home...

I'll see if I update this au much with like redrawn scenes from the film or headcanons and such but idk, but feel free to drop any ideas in the comments!

Also just to clarify, I know some people ship Mebh and Robyn because of their energy and dynamics. I personally don't feel as comfortable considering they Don't seem any older than like 12 to me

Although I won't attack people who ship them, in this au, Mk and Bai He's bond is STRICTLY PLATONIC. Mk is like 11 here and Bai He is 8. They are siblings in this au, full stop.

The ONLY confirmed ship so far is Shadowpeach at the END.

I am open to more ships with the younger characters but ONLY AFTER a big time skip when they're grown.

Last one of the Gwendalavir AU (at least for now). Today: the Guild of Shadowalkers!

Shadowalkers are an elusive guild of ninja-like fighters with a strong sense of independence, freedom and self-surpassing, and nearly supernatural abilities. Also they can talk to the wind and other neat things like that.

Lupin's own lifestyle and philosophy are quite close to the Shadowalkers' way of life, but he's too selfish to ever be part of a guild. Harmony and the language of the wind are all very nice, but all he cares about is the thrill of adrenaline and surpassing limits.

He tried to become a Shadowalker, but gave up only a few months into the three years training because he couldn't stand to follow a master's instructions. Unfortunately, after you join a master, the only out is death, so now his former master is trying to kill him.

Lupin still sometimes claims to be a Shadowalker, and relentlessly tries to learn the guild's secrets - usually by pestering Fujiko or sneaking into secret council meetings.

Fujiko became a Shadowalker 1) because it's cool af, and 2) in order to get closer to the council member of the guild who owned the Glove of Ambarinal (see previous post). She also has a "graft", a secret power that a few select Shadowalkers can acquire by climbing a mystical sentient mountain called the Rentaï. Her graft allows her to sense the presence of any gemstone and precious metal in her vicinity. Lupin mistakenly believes that all grafts do that, and thus attempted to climb the Rentaï and steal a graft. It didn't work.

Fujiko, suddenly starting to dig into the dirt in the middle of a date with Lupin: OMG there are diamonds under here Lupin: ... Fujiko: My Shadowalker senses are tingling

Goemon isn't a Shadowalker, but his ancestors learned a bunch of secret Shadowalkers techniques. Unlike Fujiko, he has no qualms about teaching Lupin about them, since he isn't part of the guild. He has vowed to always protect Lupin, so teaching him to defend himself is part of the job description.

Jigen doesn't want Lupin to learn any Shadowalker secrets, because he would just become even more insufferable.

Jigen: We already have a Shadowalker and a half on the team, we don't need another. Lupin: But Jigen... -sad puppy eyes- Goemon: Who are you calling "half a Shadowalker"??? >:O

Opposed to the Shadowalkers are the Chaos Mercenaries, a group of also ninja-like warriors with similar abilities but completely opposite motivations - they want to plunge the world into chaos. Many of them are renagade Shadowalkers.

The reason Lupin dresses like that is so that people won't confuse him for a Chaos Mercenary (who usually dress in all black). Jigen often gets mistaken for either a Shadowalker or a Chaos Mercenary, depending on how strong his death glare is that day. People can't figure out what the fuck Goemon is, because of his patchwork fighting style. No one ever suspects Fujiko of being a Shadowalker, until she strangles you with her feet.
