I think Lucas is/was jealous of James.

James is this complicated messed up guy, but he's married to Ste and had a large part of Ste's support and attention because Juliet died from cancer.

Lucas is probably used to Leah being the kid that Ste is more focused on because she's a dramatic diva who is constantly getting into trouble.

But now Ste's attention is on a new husband and James is also a dramatic diva.

This means that Lucas gets even less time with Ste.

And Lucas is going through some difficult issues right now. So even though he probably wouldn't say it. It's clear by the way Lucas melted into Ste's arms.

Lucas needs and wants his dad right now.

But like any teen, he's not actually coming out and saying it with honesty and communication.

He's acting out, starting trouble, and a bunch of half-truths.

Because he wants his dad to focus on him and be there for him. So if he starts a bunch of shit, at least Ste will be focused on him.

I do think inside Lucas is a scared little boy who just wants his dad to help deal with all the monsters inside the closet.

I desperately need for the autopsy or some other circumstance to show that Ste didn't hit Ella. I just can't come to terms with the idea that from now on he'll be a killer, accident or not, and that he'll have to live with that guilt, esp. with her being Leah's best friend. I strongly suspect that will be the outcome either way, if he had actually hit her I'm thinking it would have been made more obvious. I just can't see this ending with him really being guilty.
