Not sure if you caught it (I may have written it a bit vaguely) but this part here has some deeper meaning for Zac too (spoilers ahead)

Zac didn't say this just in the sense of getting back home alive, but that he knew he had to get back home to protect and provide for the family he was going to have - to Sunny and his unborn child. Of course, before the carnival fell into chaos, he had no official confirmation that he was going to be a dad, he only had speculation. But he knew the possibility was there. And so at this moment in time, when he was faced with death, he inwardly decided that he was going to make it back home alive. To not leave Sunny a widow, and to make sure his unborn had a father in its life. Which is amazing and noble, but also very tragic. Because we know that Pac ended up having neither mother nor father in his life oof :'D

You are right, what the show gives us and what the writers tells us isn’t 100%, but it’s still a turn off when Thomas confirmed it. They make both Adrigami & Lukanette too one-sided, especially after Marinette’s confession and the dance on the moon. It also heavily implies that Season 4 is just gonna be messy with the romances of all ships, with the alleged spoilers of both Kagami & Luka being akumatized.

So, first of all, let me just say that I never meant to harsh anyone’s mellow, and for the people who are excited about this, great, be excited! My opinion doesn’t have to matter. I’m totally fine with that. Not everybody’s going to be on the same wavelength about this whole thing and that’s cool. Maybe take a break from this blog for a week or so while I deal with it because I’m definitely not on board. I’ll try to remember to tag for it so you can filter it (I’m using that thing they said). But, on the subject of intent doesn’t mitigate effect, if you think I’ve done something not cool, or you just want to talk about it some more, my asks and DMs are open, come talk to me about it. (Just remember I can’t answer anon asks privately) 

But to the point. I agree and empathize with you anon, it is very disheartening. At the same time, is this what you mean when you say Astruc confirmed it? I had to look for it because I’d only seen people saying he had without screenshots. Unless there’s something more substantial out there, I don’t think he’s actually confirming anything in this tweet, other than his being kind of a jerk (sorry, I don’t have a high opinion of the way he treats fans). 

Coming back and saying mwahaha, I never outright said I agreed, you simpletons, would not be in the least out of character based on his past behavior. I also find the wording of the tweet from the other person kind of ambiguous. There’s still a few degrees of “together as a couple” that don’t all involve what I think of as actual committed dating. These guys loves to play games and weasel word and he’s having a grand old time at our expense, whatever. 

So, I’m not saying it’s not bad. It sucks. If it’s true then in my opinion it diminishes everyone, so that’s not great at all. Honestly, my greatest hope for season 4 has been that they let Luka get through this relationship and inevitable breakup with his character intact, but honestly, I thought they’d at least let him get that far without ruining him! Given what we’ve seen, if they are officially dating it reduces him to a level of pathetic that I’m not comfortable with. I don’t want it to be true. Nothing up until this point leads me to believe that it is.

What I am saying is that we shouldn’t be totally without hope. Regardless of what they say outside of the show (in a medium that most of their target audience isn’t going to be paying attention to) the relationship as it existed on camera is still intact, still at a fairly logical progression. The behavior of the cast was not great, but still, hmm. Explainable? I don’t know it was pretty bad to be honest. But still better than it is viewed through this lens. 

So, we can hope at a minimum that they continue to suck at conveying their intention and accidentally stumble into a continuing natural progression. And we can hope that they will do what they always do and reverse/revise their statements as soon as it becomes convenient. I honestly think they’re kind of fucking with us, to be honest. All it would have taken was Kagami saying “I’m sad for you, but happy that this means I have more time to practice with my boyfriend,” and have Luka drop Marinette off and her say along with the kiss on the cheek, “You’re such a great boyfriend.” That’s it. That’s all it would have taken to confirm it and they didn’t do it. So, I don’t know. They’ve left themselves an awful lot of wiggle room to get out of it, is all I’m saying. 

Not that they need it. I’m not the kind of organized person who screencaps everything but I distinctly remember there being a time when Thomas Astruc stated that there was no magic disguise inherent to the Miraculous, and they directly referenced one in the special, so obviously they don’t feel particularly bound by anything he says.

Good Things in 2019

@theputterer and @the-strongest-stars tagged me in the awesome annual end-of-year Good Things meme! I’ve done this in 2018 & 2017 and always think it’s a fun exercise of both reflection and looking forward.

Oh boy, though, my first thought was, what even happened in 2019? (Looking at a calendar helped! It reminded me of a few things I forgot)

It’s been a Rough Year, friends. Between OCD and basically travelling almost every weekend in the latter half of 2019, I am very much ready for a new year and hopefully a new slate.

But this is about the positives!

Personal

Played a lot of Dungeons and Dragons! I am now officially in two campaigns. This year, I endeavored to recruit more women to play, including the wonderful @allatariel. I play both my beloved cleric, Maritsa (who I’ve been playing her years now) and my new character, Noara, a ranger elf with a red panda familiar (yeah, my DM let me do that for funsies, so I could get an animal sidekick but also still try out the Horizon Walker subclass). 

Speaking of red pandas, I accomplished my LIFE GOAL of meeting a red panda face-to-face. I got to feed Harriet at the Cincinnati Zoo for 30 minutes. She was adorable. 

Completed all my dental work and had a clean bill of dental health two cleanings in a row! 

Attended DC’s Around the World Embassy Day event, always fun

Attended Star Wars night at a local library, where I got to participate in a short demo/lesson on how to fence with a lightsaber!

Attended 50th Anniversary Celebration of Apollo 11 / landing on the moon (dude they projected the rocket on the Washington Monument and it looked so cool)

Returned to the NY Ren Faire and upgraded my ren faire garb

Celebrated at THREE friends’ weddings and got to catch up with old friends I hadn’t seen in awhile

Ate ice cream at the Ben & Jerry’s Factory in Vermont

Went to NYCC for the third year in a row. Got to wear 2 costumes this year: a 1920s flapper interpretation of an occamy and my Endor!Leia costume (repeat of 2017). Learned the True Pain of sewing. Created feather shawl for my occamy costume. Learned the True Pain of crafting.

Celebrated one year anniversary with hubbie down where we got married: visited the museum we got married in and actually got a chance to enjoy the exhibits, went to our favorite brunch place down there, got to check out Fleet Week and tour an aircraft carrier and uh... I think it was a missile cruiser? 

Went up to PSU for a women’s hockey game for sister’s birthday (made embarrassing HAPPY BIRTHDAY sign for the cameras); also it was an absolutely wonderful fall drive on the way up there

Got to see The Rise of Skywalker in IMAX at the Smithsonian Air & Space Center with the awesome @allatariel! (thank goodness we had each other to get through that movie lol) also got to reuse my Endor!Leia costume. I did my own braids for the first time ever! (usually my talented sister does them) They looked like braids done by a n00b, but I didn’t care because they were passable and I did them myself and that was a Big Thing for Perfectionist Me (to not just... say screw it and undo it and just. give up. but to just let them be as is)

Worked hard at therapy and self care

Got a Sleep Number bed and holy shit let me tell you. i can actually sleep now.

OH! I almost forgot!!! Started playing Assassin’s Creed! I’ve only ever really played the LEGO Star Wars and Harry Potter video games so like. This was big for me. 

Writing

Finally finished Learning Curve. TBH I was a bit shocked that this was in fact the only fic I published in 2019. What a travesty.

However! I have been writing

@allatariel & I sat down, overanalyzed You’ve Got Mail, and drafted up the outline for my in-universe AU, something I’ve been dreaming of starting for years. Have about 4300 words so far.

Just under the wire, I did manage to start my NatGeo AU, which I’ve been dreaming of since my honeymoon in Nov 2018

Started editing/revising my original young adult fantasy novel

Poked a little at my epic fantasy pirate travel novel idea

Books

I read exactly one book, Among the Red Stars, which I enjoyed. It’s about women fighter pilots in Russia in WW2. Inspired by real people.

Music

Saw Panic at the Disco! in concert. I went along with my sister. Not like a huge fan, but they put on a pretty fun show!

Saw Waitress on Broadway!! OH MY GOD. And Sara Bareilles was starring in it. Amazing. I freaking love her music (”How does she know / what a heart sounds like?” gahhh). She was so good, and the show was so good. I literally cried all the way through it just because I was so happy to be there, but also because of the content. Man.

Saw Sara Bareilles again, in concert, in Philly. I love her so much.

Television

Finished Critical Role Campaign 1! Oh man, what a ride. Gosh, I love that show. I really need to catch up in C2 now. I’ve started it but I’m only on episode 26 or 27.

I’m not sure whether I finished The Clone Wars in 2018 or 2019. I think it was early 2019. This show was amazing and this was the character development that Anakin Skywalker needed. I love Ahsoka Tano. I cannot wait for the last season.  

Finished Rebels!!! AGAIN, what a ride!!! I still love Ahsoka Tano. I also love Hera Syndulla and Sabine Wren. Sabine’s Darksaber arc was fantastic.

The Mandalorian OMG BABY YODA!!! Yes, I have succumbed to the adorableness of Baby Yoda. Most adorable SW character forever. But also just an enjoyable story in general. This, this is how you craft a story. still NOT over the darksaber omg. 

The Good Place is continuing to be good. Not as crazy about season 4, but I’m so glad they decided to limit the seasons.

Got my sister to watch Rebels!! And then even a few episodes of The Clone Wars!!! Mwahaha >) 

Finally got around to watching The Great British Bake Off, what a sweet show!

OMG I ALMOST FORGOT Anne With an E!!! Gosh what a wonderful wholesome delightful show. No I haven’t watched S3 yet because I am Lawful Good to a fault and just patiently waiting for it to come on Netflix

Film

So, I woefully neglected to mention The Aeronauts in this post about my favorite movies in the 2010s and that was a Mistake. Because I really enjoyed this one

But otherwise probably check out that list. Because I don’t go to the movies that often, actually, and anything I really loved from 2019 is most definitely listed there.

Be more supportive in helping my friend run Book Club so that it can actually meet more regularly HA, oops. Book Club died, but kind of in favor of being able to start a second D&D campaign. At least that’s the trade off I’m looking at. I had some OCD-related glasses issues this year that inhibited reading a lot.

Try to read at least one book for myself outside of Book Club lol WELL the one book I read this year was not part of Book Club sooo

Goals for 2020

Writing

I’m not going to make this a completion goal, but instead...

...I’d like to just focus on creating a regular writing schedule/habit. Whatever the project, I just want to make sure I carve out significant time each week just to write. I don’t want to set a specific goal like “x hours a week” for now, but I want to make sure that I am writing each week.

To achieve that (because what are goals without maps):

If the words don’t immediately jump onto the page, then I’m going to try outlining or summarizing. I’m going to let go of overthinking how sentences are phrased, and just pretend I’m describing the story idea to a friend.

That blank page is staring at me and I’m just going to fill it with words no matter what I might think of them!

And I’m going to let everything else expand from there. And see how that works.

Look into the idea of perhaps forming or joining a writer’s group for original writing oh gosh that is so scary

Another headcanon for my own Tangled AU, Lingering in the Golden Gleam (but feel free to use):

There is no way Cap wouldn’t know that Cassandra wouldn’t want to be a lady’s maid, or a maid in general. No way he wouldn’t notice her resenting being shunted that way when what she wanted to do with her life was to be a Guard. And, quite frankly, no particular way I can see a loving father who is willing to let her actually join and even lead an assault on his behalf forcing her to do it without good cause.

(Molest me not with that scene from the Lost Lagoon. I know what it says. This is within a parallel universe and I can play the role of a god as I so choose to. Mwahaha.)

The good news is, there is a good cause, and once again—just like the first time Cass was denied the opportunity to become a guard (see my earlier post)—his name is Eugene Fitzherbert.

Flynn Rider, wanted thief and crony of an international crime boss, was sentenced to hang on Friday night. On Saturday afternoon he escaped, and by breakfast on Sunday he’s being given a room in the palace as the official (and very, very pardoned) boyfriend of the long-lost princess, whom he was only able to save by...escaping his hanging. With the help of the previously faithful Maximus.

That is going to set the Captain on edge. That is going to set Cassandra on edge.

Not least because Flynn Rider, who stole the tiara, is now in a strong position to steal the entire kingdom.

So the Princess needs guarding. The Princess needs someone to watch over her, and to keep an eye on Rider for when he inevitably slips up. The Princess needs a protector, lady’s maid or personal guard doesn’t matter—and it’s better to be both. (You trust a bodyguard with your life. You trust a lady’s maid with your heart.)

Cassandra might be cracking under the strain in the first few weeks, willing to take on another job (or maybe that was just a flight of fancy). But she isn’t a lady’s maid to serve Rapunzel, she’s a lady’s maid to protect Rapunzel. Because at heart, Cassandra is a Guard, and Cap wouldn’t deny her that even if he himself is still under scrutiny (especially given, well, the recent breakout and the fact that all the participants are now living in the palace).

Cassandra’s time as a lady’s maid wasn’t just a test for her. It was the Captain telling her that he basically could trust her with the future of their entire country.

(For that matter, the King trusts her to as well. Which is saying something, because Frederic is about as paranoid as they come when it comes to Rapunzel, for good reason but still.)

Until, of course, Rapunzel decides that she doesn’t need Cass to protect her anymore, thousands of miles from home and with trust and respect slowly being eroded away by Adira, tension, Adira, injuries, and Adira...

Tangled Headcanon: Dark Kingdom Names

The Dark Kingdom…actually is quite nice, as a place, when it hasn’t been taken over by Black Rocks. Sure, it’s a little gloomy, but during the good times the night sky is spectacular. The trouble is, some rather pessimistic Twilight People thought it would be a good idea to keep up the tradition and named most of the things around their country in a negative sense, to keep bad spirits away. (See, you don’t want to bother with this place…)

And so we have names like the Castle of Dread (which, okay, yes, there are traps, but it’s quite homey with a few torches and roaring fires), the Pit of Despair (actually a beautiful canyon filled with wildflowers), the Mountains of Madness (stunning peaks like crystalline spires on the western border), the Valley of the Dead (massive caves with glow-worms on the ceiling and golden amber preserving the bodies of long-extinct creatures), the Valley of Shadow (completely different place, and you should see the dappled sunlight coming down through the high canopy), the River of Tears (cool, clear waters born of a hundred streamlets and home to giant salamanders), and Lancaster. (Do not, under any circumstances, visit Lancaster.)

All of which confuses the heck out of Eugene and Rapunzel the next time they pay his dad a visit.

You know how there’s this occasional thing that goes around about how the Captain basically stopped Cassandra from being a guard because she’s his daughter and also a woman? Despite also allowing her (since the age of six no less) to train with the guards directly and become as well-versed in just about everything related to the profession as possible? Despite the fact that one of the pastimes that both of them seem to enjoy is sword-fighting? (You cannot tell me those two times were one-off occurrences.)

Well...what if he didn’t?

What if there was...a circumstance, when she was, oh, fourteen or so, where the Captain of the Guard came under scrutiny? Where his training methods were called into question, and his objectivity when it comes to protecting the kingdom possibly made into an issue? A situation where it would be foolish for the King (and possibly the Queen) to allow the Captain’s own child into the Guard because he might be tempted to give her the easy jobs? Or, perhaps, it might just be that she’s been training with him for so long that his “bad methods” have sunk in, and she’ll need evaluation on her loyalty and effectiveness. Being a Lady-in-Waiting to Princess Rapunzel is a great way to demonstrate her commitment, even if it involves little to no actual fighting. (Or so Frederic presumes...)

Why fourteen? Well, it did so happen that when she was about fourteen a whole platoon of Royal Guards were rendered practically incompetent by three low-life thieves who appear (from their conversation) to be associated with the notorious crime boss called the Baron. Three thieves who among other things stole the Queen’s wedding ring—worse still, had access to the Queen. It would be the work of a moment to kill her, and that would have been on the Captain’s head had it happened.

So Cassandra would need to keep trying, because it’s not her fault. And the Captain would have to be incredibly cautious, not because she’s not capable but because he’s not partisan. He’s under scrutiny, he’s going to be under scrutiny until he proves he’s capable, and only once they’re both in the clear will Cassandra be able to get the position she’s wanted all her life.

And that’s my theory on how Eugene Fitzherbert denied Cassandra von Dorn the chance to become a guard for eight years without either of them knowing.

⭐ i pick at my lips a lot and i took off a bit of skin on accident and now i have to slather it with chapstick every waking moment

⭐ i don't really own jeans (gasp! blasphemous) my only pair are baggy with lots of pretty embroidery

⭐ i've read 3 books in the last week and it's been Fun

⭐ today i cried over a highlighter at the make up store it was so pretty in a heart shaped box (yes ! heart ! shape !) n it smelled like berries & vanilla n it was called mermaid heart tell me u wouldn't

⭐ i'm on summer vacation so im Officially on Nap Duty

⭐ i help take care of 2 cats (ginger and sweetheart) because my apartment complex doesn't rly allow pets so i do what i can they are GORGEOUS

⭐ my hair used to be pink and my zoology professor LOVED it sm she said nice things abt it in the lecture hall with 200 other students present i just about died (dyed hehe)

⭐ i recently found out our uni has Quite A Collection of algae & cyanobacteria (in not ONE but THREE different labs hdsjsjs) so i've been dying lmao

⭐ im a whole ass adult and i still cant drive (i'm taking lessons tho! i will be a pro ! soon !)

⭐ i like mint & chocolate ice cream a lot and i've been thinkin abt it for the last 3 days
