Link is a conduit.
I love Link a lot. He's probably my favourite silent protagonist ever in every form he exists in.
But Link is simply a conduit.
Every action taken by Link is your own decision. You, the player, are using Link to your own ends.
Just as the plot uses him.
Just at the legends are using him.
(it must be tiring, to have no other choice than to allow yourself to be channeled by a hand not your own. It must be exhausting, to know that when you wake and have no control over your own body, that destruction is coming and there is nothing you can do but observe it all unravel around you.)
Link is a conduit.
But he has to fulfill his task. It's what the story demands.

Given that David Singh is Not An Idiot and canonically knew about Barry being the flash despite Barry and Joe’s (and Cisco. and Eddie. and Julian. and Cecile) attempts at keeping it a secret, do you think he would just have to sigh and keep his mouth shut around Barry when he inevitably sees cctv footage or something that makes it very very clear that captain cold and the flash are fucking.
Do you think he contemplates retiring that day.
david singh would at the very least consider retiring just so he doesn't have to deal with the inevitable procedural and legal nightmare that would result when word got out that the flash is a CCPD employee who directly interacted with evidence in criminal cases & testified at trials, AND is fucking captain cold
like, pre-legends leonard is wiping out mob influence in central just so HE can be godfather of the city, there's no way that the lawyers for every person barry's evidence or testimony contributed to so much as getting community service wouldn't be suing the city and getting an appeal, claiming that barry was motivated to falsify evidence or lie under oath to put all of leonard's competition in prison and help him keep control of his Criminal Empire™️
...and then i think david would be like, well, i'm not throwing away MY career just because barry allen can't keep one secret, let alone two. and he would start dropping hints specifically about the leonard snart part until barry goes to joe like '"hey, joe, has captain singh.... said anything weird to you lately......?"
joe: what did you do
and barry's teetering on the edge of muttering "it's more of a 'who'" when he sees singh looking at him expectantly from across the precinct, and barry realizes that the options singh have set up here are 1) "tell joe i'm sleeping with snart just to find out if he thinks singh knows" or 2) "accept that singh definitely knows, and therefore could've told joe, but he hasn't yet, so he must want something"
so barry holds eye contact with singh as he answers joe, "i...... told singh that i was.... thinking of switching jobs?"
and singh nods at him slowly, once, and then goes back to his emails
and barry is so relieved—he totally just bought himself at least another three months of not having to tell joe about leonard—that he doesn't even care that joe spends the next two weeks lecturing him about the importance of Having A Career and Using His Degree and Remembering That Life Exists Outside Of Being The Flash
(and yes, leonard did know that there was a CCPD security camera pointed at the alleyway when he dragged the flash into it. he just also happens to know that david singh is an eminently reasonable and career-driven man, who could be very useful in helping leonard to stop breaking his and lisa's rule when it comes to Not Dating Badges.
the other options were breaking up with barry (more disagreeable than it should've been) or proposing to him (less disagreeable than it should've been) (there was no rule about not marrying them) so incriminating video evidence and an anonymous tip to captain singh seemed like the best approach overall)

I know Merlin’s magic remaining secret from everyone and him being left without a support system was integral to the eventual tragedy of the show and the self-fulfilling prophecy of it all, but I still really wish we got magic reveals with every character and magical shenanigans. Lancelot was one of my favorite characters and we only get him for a few episodes. And Gwaine would have been an excellent partner in crime. And lets be honest, if Gwen knew? Tragedy averted. All of camelot’s braincells travel towards her like ants seeking sugar and everyone else has to root around in the dirt and hope they find one that has yet to make the journey to their one true home. I would have even settled for a little time-loop episode where everything gets reversed. There are so many ways to do a magic reveal! There was so much untapped comedic potential! Those scenes in the og charmed where Daryll doesn’t understand any of the witchy nonsense that’s happening? Hilarious! That scene in smallville where Lana questions Clark about all the mysteriously solved villain-of-the-week incidents while they’re driving? Also hilarious! It’s not that hard. The knights needed to figure out Merlin was Dragoon. Gwen and Arthur needed to realize they almost lost Merlin dozens of times. Mordred and Merlin could have been partners in crime and absolutely terrorize the shit out of everyone with mindspeak. Morgana also could have been “the antagonist” without losing her core character traits, but that’s a rant for another day? Where was I going with this?

For the Dark Fairy's role to have been stolen by the Evil Queen then the cursing of Sleeping Beauty must have happened some time past graduation, this makes some sense given that Briar hasn't been cursed yet I guess, and we're given an explanation it all going down on Sleeping Beauty's 18th birthday party, which is also fine.
But given the Evil Queen's age isn't in the hundreds, Briar's mother can't have actually fallen asleep for hundreds of years, and Briar's age relative to Raven's suggests that Briar's mother wasn't sleeping for vary long at all? Briar's parents probably went to school together and their friends are likely all still alive. It would even make sense that this is what happened because it explains how the Evil Queen managed to go an extra eight-plus years until the Invasion of Wonderland until she was actually arrested for interfering with stories; if the outcome of the first time she did it allowed Sleeping Beauty to avoid the actual horror of her story unfolding the way it was supposed to.
But Briar's fears are still based on the idea that her mother did sleep for hundreds of years and all her friends are dead and she did end up being married to a man she had never met before. Which, don't work with the timeline. At least let her sit at a table listening to her mother recount stories with her friends during a dinner party and lose her appetite as she realises she won't be able to do the same because the Evil Queen broke script for her mum and isn't around to break script for her.
Or maybe Briar has heard the stories about how hard it will be from her Grandmother, who only had the two children before her husband died in an accident that may have not been an accident, and Briar can't help but think she might be trying to mentally prepare Briar for the worst even as her friends and mentors brush the stories off as the kind of stories old people tell to scare children.
But you have to pick whether Briar's mother did sleep long enough to get that trauma from her, or if the Evil Queen stole the Dark Fairy's role. Because the Sleeping Beauty story has to have happened before Briar was born, and Raven was eight when the Invasion of Wonderland happened. So every year that Sleeping Beauty was asleep for is another year on top of 8-9 that the Evil Queen got away with interfering with a story before everything with Wonderland. And every year Sleeping Beauty is asleep is another year that every other kingdom has decided to let the Evil Queen carry on without being arrested given no one during that period of time knows what the outcome of the Evil Queen's spell would be when the Dark Fairy's spell is meant to be the safe one. And every year that Sleeping Beauty is asleep for is another year added to the age of all the parents, even if Sleeping Beauty herself doesn't age.
I don't think she was asleep longer than a year at most.
We also know that the Snow White story had to have happened before this as well. So imagine being the newly crowned Queen White, who is eighteen. You've pardoned your step mother for her actions against you because they were made for the sake of the story. She's also eighteen, you argue, and she's married to your dad who may be a good man but is at the very least 36 but probably more likely in his 50s (assuming he didn't get married as soon as he turned 18, and that you weren't conceived an born that same year, supposedly the Good King has a naval career, and you might even have older siblings who would later die fighting your step-mother: someone had to be assumed heir to the Good King's name after all) in what was for all intents and purposes an arranged marriage [I like to think it was a genuine arranged marriage the Good King didn't want but also didn't want to go to war with the Evil Queen's father whoever he may be, but the Storybook of Legends is also playing matchmaker here so].
Then she curses someone who was probably your friend in school.
A fair few people are blaming you. If you hadn't let the Evil Queen run free instead of being locked up, or even killed, for her crimes the story would have happened the way it was meant to.
What else can you do but point out that the Evil Queen is still the Evil Queen, and the spell that put you to sleep was able to be broken with True Love's Kiss. There isn't even a time limit.
When Sleeping Beauty wakes up she's overjoyed that it hasn't been that long at all.
When Briar finds out that Raven's page said she'd interfere with the Sleeping Beauty story as well and Raven is refusing to do it, she might well be angry.

brb, i have to go and. make strangled noises at nothing real quick; it just hit me over the head how Wyll's use of the metaphor of dancing as a stand-in for romance and intimacy really just. accompanies him all throughout his story, and how perfect it is
I guess I should have expected a character like him, that's both deeply poetic in his speech and courtly in his upbringing, would come to idealize a chivalric romance a bit, and translate his feelings on/of love to an element of courting that's as ritualistic and processional as ballroom dancing, but sometimes just realizing the obvious can really knock you off your feet for a second
like. just like how there is almost a blueprint to a perfect storybook romance in both stories and -consequently- in his head (I think romance might even be one of the literary genres with the highest number of unwritten rules that need to be fulfilled for a work to count as a romance), there is also a fairly strict method to a court dance. There is a series of well-known and practiced steps that was laid out in advance, and one is to perform them in succession, and in sync with one's partner. If one of the parties doesn't know or doesn't want to follow the rules/steps, it gets... tangled, messy, and you both stumble. The dance and the relationship both fall apart. The happy ending of a tale is not reached without all the steps in-between being followed, and he so dearly wants his fairytale ending, his happy, fulfilled love, I just---
it's such a perfect metaphor, and what makes it even more perfect is that Wyll is ostensibly aware of it, and he chose it, purposefully, and i don't want to watch the Act 3 commitment scene because I've not yet done it myself and don't want to spoil it, but I would be so surprised if he a.) made no mention of storybook romances, or b.) didn't just straight up propose y'know
i'm (metaphorically) crying, if it were possible to play this game on six different characters simultaneously without getting bored or confused I fucking would

it's funny when people are trying to put pete down by insulting his bass skills or whatever and they're like "he didn't even write fob's most iconic bassline!!!" (which I'm assuming is dance dance ig idk) and it's like. buddy, pal, friendofmine. sibling dearest. I'll do you one better: I can't name a bassline he has written.
great news! it doesn't matter. I'm not suggesting he's a good bassist either, because I've never really seen anything that really supports that idea. but he's not in the band to be the world's best bass player. it's a means to an end. he's a fantastic lyricist, he's a good frontman, and the three other members of fob wouldn't want to be in the band without him. I think that's all you could ever truly ask of him. nice try though
#fall out boy#fob#pete wentz#people have this assumption that bands and musical acts come together solely to be the best at their respective instrument or something#and that the art they create must be the pinnacle of success in a time period#but when you know that this band exists because two guys wanted a break from the rest of the scene#and they've stayed together for 20+ years because /they're just having fun/#it becomes clear that this isn't about being the epitome of greatness or whatever#BTW. DISCLAIMER.#this is ONLY about people trying to tear him down in General.#if you're comparing bassists and skill then like. oBvioUsLy him not being a great bassist matters#it just doesn't matter to me in the grand scheme of things#like. in any other capacity lol#like ik some mcr fans are annoyed that pete and mikey get compared a lot or something#and idk what mikey's skill level is at but I'm pretty sure he is better than pete just cause I've heard he's got that underdog story going#on w/ him not having played bass til mcr but coming soo far as a bassist#and I'm sure that that's frustrating so rip. but there's no reason to insist that pete is Super Skilled because dude that's not why hes her#it was never the point!! ashdhsgj#you don't need to be freakishly good at something to partake in it!#I also think it's weird how obsessed some people are with this#like. why do you wanna tear him down so badly huh? what's your deal#stfu#I didn't think I'd ever become a pete wentz defender tbh#but yknow. hdfshg

you know, its not brought up in fics often but ted is extremely well read. he doesnt brag about it, but hes read everything from f scott fitzgerald's b sides to ayn rand's doorstoppers to the sixteen book Ender series, etc etc etc. Ted reads about as much as we see Beard reading (which. in my head is a trait that was passed on, a new focus to sharpen the mind and keep him out of trouble and his mind off drugs, something Ted offered up as a coping mechanism for when his own dad died, a way to have fun and adventure and escape without ending up in jail like Ted himself had a handful of times before, scaring the bejeezus out of his ma.)
this turned into a mini fic and i lost my train of thought but point is, Ted reads So Much and more people need to pick up on this in fics please and thank you.
#ted lasso#hes got an artistic soul!#but also anyone whos fav book is the fountainhead must be both well read and stubborn as a bull#its a slog and thats coming from someone whos read both infinite jest and les mis#im getting through it slowly but surely. mostly to stretch my story endurance before jumping into atlas shrugged#also. yes i know we have no evidence that he read all 16 ender books#but having had read them myself i know in my heart of hearts that ted absolutely finished every one of them with gusto#probably on the bus to and from games with his team back in the US#no wait hold on. he was a backup punter right? that means LOTS of time sitting on the sidelines waiting for a whole bunch of nothing#lots of time was spent watching the plays and the team and formulating im sure (which is also probably why he trusts nate so much in the#beginning. bc that used to be him sitting on the sidelines taking it all in) but also theres long stretches of no play in american football#during which he probably read like a demon to keep his grades up and keep his scholarship#so that this ma never had to worry about him away at school. He wasnt going to get into trouble anymore not like he did in high school#he had to be the man of the house and gosh darn it was he going to do it with gusto#which meant good grades and learning about life and people and spending all that free time the right way#therefore: books. an easy habit that keeps him out of trouble and keeps his mama proud. plus itd be easy to hide from coaches under his pad#if they ever had a problem with it (which im sure they would at first but once he proved he was paying attention and wormed his way in#with the team even as a reserve well. they were less eagle-eyed after that concerning the paperback-shaped lumps under his jersey)#anyway have another mini fic i guess lol#im feeling a tad verbose today

I’m thinking about how the Mechs use energy, because they do things and live and therefore they *must* use energy, that’s how physics (and biology) work.
I had the idea that they are always absolutely frigid to the touch because they suck in heat from the environment like an endothermic chemical reaction.
#the mechanisms#another crack idea#it would make the most sense for them to be able to run on multiple kinds of energy#and yes i know the actual answer is that they just do. its magic basically. but thats not fun for me.#what is fun is trying to figure this shit out#and if you disagree. thats fine. disregard my musings. but like. idk what to tell you. im autistic.#of course the way i enjoy the media is different than most people#i dont think its surprisjng that the way my autistic ass likes to interact with the mechs is to disect every little bit and try to fill-#holes in ways that make sense in our understanding of the universe and their world#like you could just say that in the universe that the mechs live in physics doesnt work the same and energy isnt needed#which is fucking insane#but you could. my question would then be how the physics does work and trying to figure that out.#i just wanna stick my fingies in the holes in the story like its a crochet blanket and make flex them around#thats whats fun for me. which means that its super frustrating when i pose these questions looking for people to play in thd space with me-#and they just get shut down with answer like ‘whatever serves the narrative’ or ‘the mechs are unreliable narrators’ or ‘jonny lies’#tbc unreliable narrators can be very fun. but its not fun when it stops the possibilities or the conversation.#its not fun when ‘unreliable narrator’ is the end.#i think other people may enjoy the freedom of just doing anything that that gives them (or ‘whatever serves the narrative’ does)#but i dont because im a scientist which means i want to figure things out which means there must be a framework#if anything could happen at any time then you can’t make a cohesive story.#and i coukd argue we know thats not the case since ivy predicts stuff based on likelihood#anyway i managed to go down a rabbit hole tangent of why apes and roundworms hybridizing is the most ridiculous ‘scientific’ answer ive-#seen in scifi. so if you’re interested in that. hmu

read an old astolat fic i hadn’t read before & realized: the problem i had with it was the same problem i had with caroline stevermer’s a college of magics a million years ago now, & the same problem i had with gideon the ninth much more recently, & the same problem i’m sure i’ve had with a hundred other books i’m forgetting & will have with a hundred more, because authors do so love this particular sleight of hand & really i do too, when the pieces come slotting magically belatedly together in a way that actually convinces me—
id est, the fifth-act ‘they love each other for real and true after all, and all the play at indifference or even resentment was just a screen over the real hot feeling released at last, flooding out like tears or piss or blood or spend, whatever says real raw life to you—’ reveal where all the legerdemain falls away at last to show the characters’ real attitude towards each other, and all the ambiguities get recast in a blaze of shining clarity—
except that half the time, or honestly probably more than half, it ends up feeling to me like—the author’s been too busy reveling in their own cleverness to actually bother constructing a proper road under my feet, for me to shuffle along even in darkness, so i’m not there with them and i can’t get there in time and the armor is falling away to reveal—nothing at all, an empty carapace with no human or heart in it after all—
or, okay, i’m obviously having fun spooling out my imagery there but more prosaically i just do think—a lot of the time i just fundamentally don’t agree with authors about the amount of scaffolding that’s necessary for a real rapturous serious connection to feel plausible, and like, maybe that makes me a product of fanfiction culture where feelings get so much screentime most of the time, i’ve gotten spoiled by it; but isn’t it equally possible some authors are relying a little lazily on the sort of structural cues that say, we’ve reached the denouement, it’s time for love to stand in the light of day at long last like aragorn and arwen in the movie, so if we slot characters into those roles who are prominent enough the cadence will do the rest of the work to make the thing feel conclusive, like we’re in a mediocre ada limón poem that has nothing really revelatory to say but sure knows how to sound like it does…?

Digimon Ghost Game ~ Hiro & Gammamon + {Tanabata}! (Japanese cultural holiday taking place on July 7th!)
#digimon ghost game#digimon: ghost game#hiro amanokawa#amanokawa hiro#hiro and gammamon#izzyizumi posts#(OK so Fun Story Time)#(Way back in 2k13 during Tanabata of that year I was very actively involved in a big 'pan-fandom' wide r.p. {role-play} game)#(This wasn't on Tumblr but it was elsewhere and Anyway so I wasn't playing from DigiAdvs at time though I did have my Koushiro he was just)#(Getting Started with my Koushiro Voice Testing & at time I was testing out other charas too & one is like Japan EmbodiedTM)#(Im Not Saying Who They Were {I had a few Similar} but anyway 2k13 was the year immediately after Grandpa on my not-Jew end passed)#(and I was close to Grandpa on that end & Grandparents in general too & Grandpas passing at time hit me *super* hard too)#(At same time. Multiple people were dropping from the rp game {it was still pretty active but} it had been slowing a bit as a result)#(So I got the idea to have my chara hold a Tanabata event post and it actually got like 1200+ comments total)#(of course half of those were replies during threads but anyway it was a surprisingly big success for me to have made that event work)#(At the time my charas 'wish' had simply been 'I hope for the remainder of the following year to be Good')#(What my Chara meant was 'I do not Need a Wish but if I have one I hope everyone elses Wishes can come true for them')#(and also 'if I must make a Wish I would Wish to not {be the only one left here} by the end of That Time')#(and my rp partner who threaded with me had their chara be like 'I'll wish for your wish to come true' & wrote it in charas 5 languages)#(They didnt Know I also meant re the rp games stability but like anyhow that event post was one of my most fun rp experiences ever)#(Fam deaths hit me super hard & I was in a very dark place at time but being able to experience that event really helped me that year)#(I probably wouldn't have kept this blog running on queue for as long if it hadn't been for things like That really helping in between)#(in general I'm really grateful cultural holidays like Tanabata still exist for Japanese people especially as I am {myself} a Jew)#(& we have our own cultural holidays & they may clash at times with Concepts but at the same time I *do* believe we can have solidarity)#(anyway im super Super Happy that if not Koushiro. *Hiro* could get a Tanabata piece because I feel it fits Hiro+Gammamon a TON too)#(Hiro would definitely be the type to be like 'I wish for the remainder of the year to be Good {for Everyone}' & Koushiro Would Too)#(but it does kind of Hit in a Certain way for Hiro+Gammamons storyline in itself Too & I'm just super grateful Hiro could get July theme)#(because if it really couldnt be Koushiro. & I wanted Koushiro for either Tanabata or Aug 1st in itself if not rainy season {June})#(Hiro was Next Best Choice & anyway This is also what I mean when I say I think cultural themes with this series should be Acknowledged)#(When They Happen in Various Official Arts or even eps INVOLVING the Chosen themselves because these are *cultural specific holidays*)

sue me but i just really don’t wanna see someone try to rectify that terrible cliche out of character love triangle again like. if they chose to cut that out all together (not cutting YUMI out all together, obviously, just the romantic implications) then they’d probably have my attention. but let’s be real that’s probably not gonna happen
#legit you can cut out all romantic implications in that story and it’d literally not effect the plot at all#all the driving forces of the plot are already there. and they set that in stone when they made yakuza 0- nishiki and kiryu’s story#is between them and them alone and that’s how their story should end as well. yumi is important to the plot of y1/kiwami but not as a#an object in between kiryu and nishiki- she’s important for her own individual reasons and throughout the entirety of 1 she functions by her#own volition. she’s got her own shit going on and though it intersects with kiryu and nishiki in the end (and before that via haruka)#it literally has nothing to do with romance– it has to do with the 10 billion yen and haruka and how she ties into all of that#the fact that they’re all childhood friends COULD have been a very interesting piece of the ending to play with narratively speaking but#they don’t explore that instead they just say unga bunga straight men must fight over woman unga bunga#like come on are you fucking kidding me#she had her own whole ass life for 10 years. so did the other two for better or for worse. nishiki is a murderer and kiryu got ten years of#his life taken away by prison. but no it’s all secretly actually connected by a love triangle that’s been#just sorta hibernating for ten years or something#god#sorry I just. I hate it man i hate it so much there’s so much potential and good parts of the plot to explore but they DONT#becuase of heteronormative cliche bullshit that doesn’t make sense both narratively and in terms of the characters’ personalities#and backgrounds and morals and aggsgdhshshsxjhdhfjfjfjxjfhdhshss#rambling#call me a misogynist or whatever if you want but if you read these tags you see why I think the LESS misogynistic option would be to cut#out the love triangle/romantic shit completely and focus more on HER as HER OWN gigantic piece of the puzzle#with her own fucking Life#yk1
