》 WHAT'S THIS BLOG ABOUT, DOG MAN?

I'm glad you asked! This is my main blog so it's generally just a mish mash of all sorts, anything and everything pertaining to my interests goes here so it's a total free-for-all. That said, you can mostly expect reblogs about queer topics, political and social issues, different media that I like, shitposts and furry art. Lots and lots of furry art. I may occasionally post my own art here and possibly even my own writing in the future if I feel confident enough, but it's rare admittedly.

》 WHAT ARE YOU INTERESTED IN?

I am, in fact, a nuanced human person so you can argue that no matter how many things I tell you that I like? None of this will even come close to conveying the full spectrum of who I am. So do keep that in mind. That said, it doesn't mean I can't at least give you an idea of the things I enjoy so to name a few things offhandedly... 》 YOU'RE QUEER? WHAT'S THE DEAL THERE?

Sure am! I'm a gender non-conforming trans man. I go by he/him pronouns exclusively and I mostly use stereotypically masculine terms (man, boy, dude, guy, fella, etc) to refer to myself. That said, I've got no intentions of trying to mirror cis men and the latter can and does vary whenever I want it to. I'm a man in the same way Bugs Bunny is a man; Gender is a joke to me, it's malleable and I will use it however I see fit at a moment's notice. I use the labels pansexual and queer pretty interchangeably. Gender doesn't really play a part in who I'm attracted to, it's just kind of a neat bonus more than anything. That said? Overall I'm largely attracted to other queer people! I'm non-monogamous. I use the term ambiamorous to refer to myself because it fits well enough. I can comfortably exist in both monogamous and polyamorous relationships but between the two? Up to now I've found the latter is my preference. Also, I know I don't owe anyone an explanation about my identity. I'm talking about this because I'd like to (queer expression is fun to talk about yippeeee) and not because I feel obligated to. People aren't owed your life story, especially people on the internet ✌️

》 DO YOU HAVE A BYF / DNI?

Yes! You can find it here. I know some people consider these to be pretty superfluous because anyone who most BYF / DNI lists apply to probably won't be the kind of person to be courteous enough to listen to them. That said? I'm aware of that and I don't expect this to stop anyone who doesn't want to be stopped. The reason I have it here is more for the benefit of those who I will inevitably end up sharing spaces with. It's more for their reference so they can make an informed decision on whether they want to follow my blog or not and what's best for their own comfort, based in part on where I stand on certain things and where I'll put my foot down. Think of it less as a foolproof and more as a filter. I can and will still block liberally for my own comfort, whether that's because something on that list seems to apply or just because I don't like someone. The block button exists to be used, I'll curate my own internet experience in whatever way suits me personally and I recommend you do the same 🤷

》 WHAT ABOUT A TAGLIST?

Not yet, but I'm slowly working on it. In the meantime? Here's what you mainly need to know. You can find my talking and general shitposts under solar talks, or my art under dog draws. I do have content warning tags! I try to be conscientious and tag anything that I know is a common trigger for people (blood, gore, bones, bright colours, insects, etc) as and where I can. I format all of my content warning tags as "cw //" and then whatever the content of the post is that needs tagged. So for example, if you don't want to see insects? You can blacklist it on my blog using cw // insects and that should stop you from seeing any creepy crawlies. This same format applies to all of my content warning tags. If there's anything more specific you need tagged? Don't be afraid to let me know. I'm happy to accommodate for you wherever you need; If it's something that triggers you? Then it warrants being taken seriously. No matter how silly or overly specific you may think it'll sound, I'll respect it.

What made you ship it?

I actually have no idea. I probably read something? Have any of our friends written it? Maybe it was that?

When I'm new to a fandom I'm game for pretty much any ship before I start getting salty, so I might just have seen art and been like "awh, that's sweet" and then I wrote fic for it and I was lost.

What are your favorite things about the ship?

Pining

I want these two making pathetic eyes at each other for fucking ever before anything happens.

I think Fox is all sharp edges and as a rule the people he's closest to are all sharp edges too. I think he struggles with vulnerability and Thorn is just patient and doesn't have a sharp edge in his body. I think being treated kindly by someone who won't rise to any of the bullshit Fox tries to start is good for getting him to stop posturing.

And I think Fox is good for Thorn as well, though it takes a little longer for that to become apparent. I think Thorn can be a people pleaser, I think he puts people before himself sometimes to his detriment and I think Fox being the stubborn bastard that he is helps Thorn be comfortable taking up more space and putting up firm boundaries on what he'll allow.

On an angsty note, Thorn dying is delicious angst, as is Fox falling deeper and deeper into Palps bullshit. I'm a sucker for stories about people watching their loved ones go down bad paths and when unable to stop them drawing a line in the sand. If Thorn walking away is enough to get Fox to actually examine what he's doing, who knows.

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

I've said this before, but I don't like the uwu'ing of the CG. I'm only interested in Fox when he is very aware of the fucked up things he's doing for the chancellor and is justifying them. And I think that conflict is key to what I like about Thorn/Fox.

What made you ship it?

So these are OCs obviously, so I didn't really start shipping it as a made them to be shipped.

What are your favorite things about the ship?

I like that there's some opposites attract stuff. Lepi is cheerful and bouncy and Rion is sullen and very introverted. They're both neurodivergent, sometimes in ways that don't mesh well eg. when Lepi is stressed he gets antsy, he talks and moves around and talks more, while Rion gets overstimulated when he's stressed.

I like that they had to work at it. They want this to work and so they talk about it and they get better at communicating their needs and how to slot together.

They're also just very sweet.

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

Uh... I think the only unpopular opinion I could have is that due to O66 this will inevitably end in tragedy, which considering how you specifically feel about that will be popular or unpopular 😂

Why don’t you ship it?

I don't like how fandom characterises either of these characters, particularly Obi Wan. I shipped it when I first entered the fandom and have gone more and more off it the more time I spent in fandom. I'm not gonna get into details because I'm not actually here to start fights, but I can rant about this for hours 😂

What would have made you like it?

An entirely different fandom

Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it?

Honestly, not really. I have so soured on this ship that I do literally everything in my power to avoid having to see it. I won't read fic that even mentions it in passing. I don't even make exceptions for my friends stuff anymore.

Parfum Nostalgique Q&A/ Ask me Anything, June 2022

Bonjour, my darlings. I hope you're doing well. I've been working on Parfum quite obsessively, and I realized that I've encountered a bit of a problem...

Well, maybe it's the opposite of a problem.

You know how lots of creative people with big ideas and projects they're enthusiastic about joke around and say they spend more time talking about their projects than actually doing them? I'm the opposite. I spend so much of my time working on this game, that I've never really written any legitimate information on it for people who are curious about the project.

So, I decided to ask my followers what they would like to know the most about Parfum Nostalgique, and answer the questions here.

I tried my best to answer all questions received in a way that reads like a fun little interview. If you asked me a question and you don't see it, it means that the answer was probably lumped into another question! I hope you'll enjoy this behind-the-scenes look at the thing I spend every waking moment on.

Disclaimer: I'm writing this after a day of very bad chronic pain. I am barely lucid. Do not take the way I write this as a reflection of how I write my work!

Q: Who is this game for?

A: This is a LONG one in my head, but I'll try and make it as concise as possible.

I don't think I can just say "cool gay people." Can I say that? I guess I can. But there's a few types of cool gay people I think might resonate with the story more than other cool gay people, and I'd like to address what I mean by that here.

All my characters are what I like to call "trans-ambiguous." This means that none of them have canon, set genders or sexes. If you ask me what Dashiell's gender is, not even I know. If you ask me what genitalia Lupine has, not even I know. I'm trans, and rather than trying to represent a ton of specific gender identities, I prefer for it to simply be understood that many of my characters are implied to be trans, and that you are allowed to assign whatever gender or sex you see fit to them. Gender is the least important part of these characters' development, but a very important part of their aesthetics. Their lack of gender specificity is partially on purpose and partially because I genuinely cannot comprehend how or why i HAVE to decide on a gender and sex for each character.

I'm asexual. My main character is definitely not. He is an unapologetically allosexual vampire dom. Being asexual doesn't mean I don't enjoy sex, it just means that I don't feel sexual attraction to people. There are definitely asexuals who are sex-repulsed entirely, but I feel like that isn't stated enough that sexual activity and sexual attraction can and do exist separately. Depiction of sexual activity for the sake of personal expression and aesthetics rather than attraction are a big part of this visual novel. Val's clients are more interested in using him as a medium to carry out their personal fantasies than they are attracted to him. Asexuality is a very diverse identity, but I'm hoping this recontextualization of sex is one that makes at least a chunk of my asexual readers feel a little more seen.

I also think that this story, whether you're gay or not, will be a smash hit with people exhausted with hiding their emotions, neurodivergencies, trauma, etc. from their friends and loved ones to avoid further pain. People who really want to blow the fuck up and express themselves, but know that it might cause them more harm than good when the people they value the most don't have enough empathy to understand. People who have too many feelings, but no access to an environment conductive to meaningfully addressing them, this is a story for you.

Q: Tell us about your writing process.

A: Hold on, I gotta put my ADHD on the phone:

"Yeah hi, this is Rose's ADHD. When Rose wants to write, she's gotta get through me first. I only allow shit I think is fun to make it through the gates. Anything that felt like a chore to write or render isn't making it into the game. If she doesn't keep thinks fun, fresh, and sexy 24/7 I will pull the fire alarm in her brain. The indoor sprinklers will go off, and her day will be ruined. I know I'm a drama queen for doing this, but it's all part of the plan."

That's pretty much it. I write and i write to my heart's content, but always try and keep things new and fun, because if the story is fun and engaging for me to write, I can run with it without a problem. If it isn't, it's simply not getting done. If this game is a chore, it's not getting done, so I'm simply always making this thing more and more fun for myself so I can keep focusing on it. It's very rewarding, and I highly recommend doing this. Even if you don't have a dopamine deficiency, like I do, imagine the power you can hold if you find fun in everything on a project you love.

Q: Talk about your main sources of inspiration for your characters.

A: Some people know this, some people don't, but my main characters are actually based off of ball jointed dolls I've accumulated since I'm about 12 years old. If you're unfamiliar with BJDs, they are often sold nude, eyeless, wigless, and paintless, with the collector being encouraged to customize their doll to their heart's content. I used these dolls as a physical way to create my own characters, or maybe, the more accurate term is "friends." I didn't have to draw or write these characters and spend a ton of time developing them to experience them and be in their presence, because they were physical "beings" that I could "bond with." I would sit and play games with them on my lap after a hard day, or hug them when I needed to feel loved, or take them out to photograph when I was lonely and bored.

I poured a lot of time and effort into these dolls that I no longer have the energy for, though I know that passion will come back someday. They grew and changed with me as a teenager, as I went through different phases and interests. Each doll has been painted and repainted, wig swapped, and style swapped so many times to keep these characters fresh for me, because I didn't want to lose the bond I had with my dolls.

I have made the conscious decision not to involve my dolls any further in this project because of this. My characters as completely separate entities from the dolls they are based off of, and though in my mind, they may always be linked, they will never be the same people.

I want these characters to be completely given up to the masses, and for people to interpret them in whatever way they see fit. That's something I'm GIDDY with excitement about seeing. I love it when fictional characters exist as much as little guys chilling in our heads as much as they do in the actual works they're in, especially when those two interpretations of the characters work together to make up a well-rounded, fleshed-out, much more real-feeling person. My dolls cannot be part of this experience. They are physical items that belong to me. I can't let them have any part of this.

Many characters look NOTHING like their original dolls, but I consider them to still be "born from" their original dolls in some way, because they would not exist without them. The biggest example I can think of is Saturday, who is a completely different gender, race, and age than the doll I originally based her off of. Saturday's doll is heavily yellowed and damaged from age, and I was having a lot of trouble separating Saturday the doll from Saturday the character, so decided it would just be best to take her name and whatever aspects of her doll's personality I felt would fit a completely new character, who is now only vaguely reminiscent to her in disposition. Saturday the doll and Saturday the character are now almost completely disconnected, with the only thread holding them together being that one would not exist without the other. Doll Saturday simply gave Parfum Saturday a referral.

On the other hand, her boyfriend, Lucian, is accurate to his doll down to the tattoos!

In case you're curious, yes, I did get Lucian when I was about 14, the same time me and my little friends lusted after some random alt guy who worked at the grocery store while we listened to The GazettE and Tokio Hotel. I'm glad that energy made it into his final form!

Many aspects of these character designs at least very vaguely reflect the phase of my life when each doll was acquired. Lupine's "floweriness," along with his love of gardening and tea, started while I was a classical lolita at 16, and I got Val smack in the middle of discovering the joys of Showa 24 manga and Takarazuka at 18.

God, does it show!

For the record, I read Eroica after I conceptualized Val. I can't look at Earl Dorian Red Gloria without thinking of him.

Dashiell's doll is the only one I didn't design myself. He was sent to me for free, when I was 14 years old, by someone who just needed the doll out of their house. Since then, he's had the same wig and paint, because I just didn't want to mess him up. It just felt like him to keep it for all this time. He was originally a very expensive doll, so it was an incredible stroke of luck to get him for free, but I also hear a lot about people giving up their expensive dolls after they learn about how spirits enjoy inhabiting small, hollow humanoid figures and feel that their dolls are possessed. I'm not worried about it now, though. It's already too late, and whatever spirit was inside him has already crawled through my ear and into my brain.

You'll notice in the game, Saturday wears exclusively kimono and yukata, because I started conceptualizing her while studying kitsuke and kimono sewing techniques. Modern kimono is very versatile, practical, and vast. People aren't just wearing the seasonal motifs you see on antique kimono anymore. It's the most fun to make outfits for Saturday because I get to experiment with pattern mixing and color combinations. Here's one of her cute yukatas I made with a watercolor pattern I found on Clip Studio Paint:

Q: What's the sound experience going to be like re: music, voices, etc.?

A: I have a big, dumb jazz degree that I refuse not to use, which means that all the music IS being composed by me! I don't have money to pay anyone else, and the sound design I'm looking for is VERY particular, so it's best for me to do it myself. It's nice to make music when I need to keep things fresh. Sometimes, my brain is fried from writing and drawing, and I need to switch it up a bit.

This is the theme for Oberon, a character who wasn't supposed to make it into the main story, but... here we are! Those are his legs! I really hope you'll all enjoy his character. He's a little bit of a freak, so I know he's not going to be for everyone, but his theme and his overall vibe just has the sweetest, sexiest gothic essence...

You can tell from this theme that I've been listening to a lot of Buck-Tick. I made it after listening to Dress, Victims of Love, and Sex For You a few times so I could absorb their energy and infuse it into this song!

Here's another one for you. This plays during some of the more fun, candid scenes of the visual novel.

I've really been enjoying working with synthesizers. I've been channeling my inner Hisashi Imai!

My biggest inspirations right now are Buck-Tick, Miharu Koshi, and my beloved ACO, especially her album "Irony." I listen to it while I'm writing when I need to really, really get into a character's emotions.

As for voice acting, Parfum Nostalgique is only going to be partially voiced, and I mean VERY partially. Voices will only be used for a handful of lines, for scenes that could not otherwise be executed without them, and for things like laughs, scoffs, and screams that would feel half-hearted and wimpy to simply just type out. Originally, I wasn't going to have voice acting at all, but I soon realized that voices would be necessary to fully complete the experience. A casting call will be released once I finish preparing it.

After a lot of thought, I've decided to make the voice acting for this project volunteer-only. There are such small amounts of dialogue for each voice actor to say that I think it would be acceptable, as long as it is clearly specified that this is not a paid project to those auditioning. This game has no budget. I'm a chronically ill person who works as a bridal alterations specialist 3 days a week. I can barely afford my own life. If I don't manage to pull enough volunteers... I'll cross that bridge when I come to it! I don't want anyone to be under the impression that I feel entitled to free voice acting, but... for my own sanity, and my wallet, voices are volunteer-only.

This is all I have the energy to write, for now. If you think I'm proofreading this thing, you're wrong. It's very late at night and I have not left my windowless bedroom all day because I was paralyzed from the waist down by cramps.

😊 Rose Blue (Metalbvcky) - reread of this modern no-powers Stucky BDSM fic because I also read a lot of the shorter follow-on fics and wanted to refresh my memory on these characterizations

🥰 👂 The Murder of Mr. Wickham (Claudia Gray, author; Billie Fulford-Brown, narrator) - this is a mashup of Jane Austen and Agatha Christie, in that all of Austen's characters gather for a house party and then there's a murder - I feel like this is a book where either you're here for the premise and enjoy the ride or you should stay away entirely. For my part I had a blast reading this, just a fun, entertaining romp. I am fine with all the modernizing touches that literally everyone writing today does in historical fiction. I enjoyed seeing a possible version of (mostly) beloved characters after their HEAs, some as much as 20+ years on! Of course the Tilneys' daughter would be the one with enough gumption and curiosity to want to investigate a murder! Of course the Darcys have a son who's very neurodivergent! Loved the scene where Elizabeth has a little too much wine (after an extremely bad day) and channels a little too much of her dad! Shout out to the info we get about Mary Bennet's happily ever after; four for you, Mary! Can't believe this book made me remotely tolerate Fanny & Edmund! The murder was decently plotted and played 'the game' as it should be. Anyway, if this is your flavor of amusement, you'll know it.

😍 The Rules of Play (Ribbonsflying) - loved this Stucky historical BDSM AU - loved the power dynamics at play and has one of the hottest ice play scenes I've read

🥰 Wish Granted (ambut) - another really good variation on the 'recovering veteran Bucky finds solace and some healing with professional Dom Steve' - this had lots of delish praise kink which I eat like ice cream and also a more realistic depiction of Bucky dealing with his amputation/prosthetic which was nice to see

Hi, Em! I was feeling nosy today, so I read your about me, and now I have a random question that I hope you don't mind answering lmao

I was diagnosed with ADHD as a kid, but I gradually stopped presenting symptoms as I grew up. Now it's coming back to bite my ass again cause I'm god's favorite child, I guess. So, on a scale of 1 to 10, how annoying is having ADHD as an adult? Cause I've been stressing about not stressing enough about the things I need to get done and, as a result, I end up doing nothing, which stresses me out even more 😭

PHEWWWWW OH MAN do i know that feeling well lmao. so i have been medicated before but i'm not currently taking anything, and i would definitely say i go through phases where my adhd feels more and less under control. it can even change day to day. some days are a 1 and some are a 10 and most fall somewhere in between. i'd say today was like a 4? i focused really hard at work and got a lot done, but i felt absolutely WIPED afterwards bc i had to push so hard lol

idk if you want advice but i'll babble, some things i've found that help me generally are:

focus music (i like pulling up lofi bts on youtube bc lyrics in any language are too distracting, or i'll do ambient noise, or video game soundtracks)

lighting specific candles when i'm focusing so my brain associates that scent with 'ok time to not fuck around'

the pomodoro method (or if that feels like too much, "just 5 minutes" - set a 5 minute timer and tell yourself you only have to do the thing for 5 minutes, most of the time you'll finish it before the timer goes off OR you'll realize it's not that bad bc now you've gotten started and you're in the flow)

regular exercise (even just going for walks!)

having a consistent sleep schedule

not over-caffeinating (i am bad at this one)

asking for help!!!!! (also bad at this one 🥴)

trying to get outside and see the sun daily

making to-do lists even if i have to write them down in 5 places

following the dopamine (aka - DO WHAT SOUNDS FUN !!)

taking baby steps and actually celebrating them

productive procrastination (ie: put off the thing i REALLY don't wanna do by doing some other stuff that doesn't sound as impossible)

allowing my rest time to TRULY be rest (by giving myself permission to do nothing and not feel guilty)

embracing the good days and doing my best to ride out the bad ones

and above everything: BEING KIND TO MYSELF BECAUSE BEING NEURODIVERGENT IS REALLY FUCKING HARD AND THE WORLD WAS NOT BUILT FOR US AND WE'RE DOING OUR BEST

wow if you didn't know i had adhd before you could definitely tell just based on how chaotic that list is 💀 i hope some/any of that helps?? you are very much not alone my friend and i am always here to talk about the struggles of being an adult with adhd 💜 please be kind to yourself! you got this!!!

also if you want more canonical sloane content the perfect place to get it from is the original draft of the fbdo screenplay, which im sure were filmed because apparently the original cut of the movie is two and a half hours long so hopefully by some miracle that cut will someday be released. but for now youve got the script, which has SO many good sloane parts in it building up her character, that i wish at least some of was kept in the final product. honestly the script is a mixed bag for me, cause it has some unecessary and awkward bits im glad were cut out, but then there are bits that i really enjoyed that develop sloane's and even ferris' characters more, but on the other hand cameron's character is developed less than in the final movie, and the trio doesnt seem as tight-knit in the script depsite the additional dialogue. then there were a few moments that were needlessly innappropriate and crude (and problematic cause as much as i dont like using that word for how much its been saturated in its use recently its like. accurate here, and reflects some of the movie's problems.) . someday i'll delve into my opinion of it in an essay/post thing but i dont have time or energy for that right now lol, so if you want read the script for yourself and see what you think.

as for the neurodivergency, ive been tempted to talk about it even though im not sure if im neurodivergent, but while ive been suspecting for a while i am i dont think im enough of an authority to talk about it (especially if im not diagnosed). i have seen a stray post here and there of nds headcanoning sloane and cameron as autistic, and ferris as having adhd, which from what i know fits pretty well. you could even say fer has a makeshift stim toy, the rabbit's foot he keeps in his pocket. it's shown he's rubbing it when he's at the bottom of the taxi and nervous about his dad seeing him (he even hands it to cameron for comfort), he's swinging it on its chain when talking to sloane and cameron after the parade while waiting for the car, and again he's shown rubbing it when he's saying goodbye to sloane toward the end.
