Any headcanons or takes for Tanisha Jackson and Tonya Wiggins? Haven't seen much of them on Tumblr. I'm hoping you can deliver, really diggin' your page, keep it up!
(tysm for the request! I actually have a lot of feelings about them- but especially Tanisha, so I liked writing this a lot. I’m honestly a little high rn and I’m praying this makes sense and I was able to explain things right! I hope I did them both justice!)
TW: none
Headcanons for Tanisha Jackson and Tanya Wiggins-
Tanisha Jackson:
She liked Franklin first. They became friends in maybe 9th/10th grade or before when they met through Lamar. She was Lamar’s friend first, and had met through her brother and Lamar being friends. Franklin was a little wilder and more willing to do daring/dumb shit with Lamar back then. But he’s always been smart and had big plans for where he wanted to go, and she admired him for it.
After her brother got killed she sort of had an eye opening moment that, as much as she loved Franklin, she wanted out of this life with or without him. He didn’t understand at the time, and even after a while post game he didn’t get it. He’d gotten all his money from the Union Depository job, he had his nice cars, and his big house, and in his mind, he’d made it. And he didn’t understand why she still wouldn’t be with him. It didn’t register with him that she left everyone behind to stay safe, to start a good life of her own, and to not watch the people she loved get killed doing illegal stuff.
It takes a few years post game for her to realize that, even after she’s gotten married and started the “life she wanted” that she isn’t with the man she wanted. It’s a good life. But what’s the point of living the life you wanted without the person you knew you always wanted? That’s when she divorces her husband and she and Franklin reconnect and eventually get married.
I don’t know if it’s ever mentioned what she does for work or in her life in general, but I see her being really smart just by the way she talks to Franklin and by the way she sees things. She gives straight A and advanced classes in school vibes to me- maybe even some kind of college after graduation.
I need her to be the passenger princess to Franklin's master driving skills. Only hot girls hit curbs and merge three lanes without looking- and she’s the hottest bitch in that aspect. Her driving scares Frank to death.
She’s the only one of Franklin's friends who’s ever spoken up about how his aunt treats him. He fell in love even harder when she stood up for him.
She knows how to fight, she knows how to shoot, and she knows how to take care of herself. But all she ever wanted was a life where she never had to do any of that.
Tanya Wiggins:
Frank really did have a crush on her when they were kids. He just chooses to see it otherwise now because he’s ashamed of admitting it because of her lifestyle now.
She and Tanisha used to be best friends. But Tanisha wanted out and to make a better life, while the world got to Tonya and she fell off without anyone to support her.
In school she used to dream of buying a nice little house and maybe having a few kids with J.B. She wanted to own her own salon and maybe even do hair/nails for the stars. But as one thing led to another, she didn't dwell on what could have been anymore. And she gets so high she just convinced herself that she’s happy with the life that she and J.B have now.
She knows the crack is killing her, and that this life is killing her. But what else is she supposed to do? She knows her old friends judge her. That’s partially why she tells Frank she only “baby doses for the taste”. She knows he’s judging her, and she’s embarrassed to let people know her habit has gotten as bad as it has.
Feels left behind by her friends, after everything. Tanisha married a doctor and moved away, Franklin got his money and moved to Vinewood, even Lamar eventually made his own business and got away. But she still has to wake up everyday and sell herself for a few grams and to pay the bills. She’s bitter, but she’s mostly just sad.

You know GTA 5’s political commentary is extra shallow because if the writers really had the big bold ideological cojones they seem to want the audience to think they have than they’d definitely go out of their way to flesh out the Mike/Trevor/Brad/Amanda & Franklin/Lamar/Tonya/Tanisha parallel, delving into the similarities and differences between these two lower class, criminally aligned social circles across both different decades and different racial backgrounds.

im sappy so i like to think that tanisha, tonya (a older and clean tonya, i luv and only want the best for her), franklin, and lamar r still really good friends after all these years, and they have a group chat where they talk shit all day to each other (well not even to each other, its really everyone vs lamar because he’s always sayin the dumbest shit and the three of them are always like ‘nigga shut yo stupid ass up’ LMAOOOOOOO) and make plans that have a 50/50 chance of goin thru cuz they all busy and have kids, well everyone except lamar that is
they always try to make nice plans to go out drinkin or sumthin but it always ends up with tanisha, franklin, and tony extremely buried in work or too tired to go out, and because lamar’s schedule is always so cleared out he just shows up to bother them and help with the lil ones. no one minds this tho, uncle L to the rescueeee

👤⏰ and 👔 for the GTA 5 ask game?
👤20. If you have a GTAV OC, tell me about them!
Why did I JUST realize @spookydiner literally already asked me about husbandkiller? Sorry bout that. I guess she hasn’t gone anywhere.
She was born on April 28th, 1972 in Barbados and baptized as Lourdes Vil, though by the time she was ten years old she had been given the rather rude nickname “Dog Tooth” on account of the gaps in her teeth. When she was sixteen, she immigrated to Carcer City to live with a family friend, Xaviera, and spent five years working at a nursing home.
In the winter of 1992, Lourdes met and began to sleep with a man named Armand, the son of a resident at the home. With his help, she and Xaviera began counterfeiting US currency and traveling cross-country to spend their ill-gotten gains on untraceable material assets. Lourdes developed a taste for the finer things during this time, and she enjoyed the freedom, spontaneity and ever-changing scenery.
Unfortunately, a few years into this lifestyle, the site which the duo had previously used to make their bills was discovered and their assets stashed back in Carcer City seized. Shortly thereafter, she and Xaviera had a nasty falling out. Lourdes took her share of their remaining money and drifted to San Andreas, changing her name to “Mable” to be less identifiable. In 2003, she got married to Butch Stewart, the owner of the Alamo Auto Salvage. Butch was a neglectful and stingy husband, due in part to his distraction with Sarah Vincent, a member of the Lost MC.
Butch eventually got Sarah pregnant, and she gave birth to a son named Carl. When Mable found out, she shot Butch in his sleep, burning his corpse in the scrap yard’s incinerator. As inheritor of the estate, she continued to work with both the Lost and other local gangs, disposing of evidence and bodies alike. She keeps tabs on the Lost in case someone in their corner gets pissy about Butch’s death.
Mable has a brand of a heart with an arrow through it on her upper back, and she gets fatter as she ages. When Tonya eventually wanders to Sandy Shores in withdrawal, Mable gives her a place to recover.

⏰ 3. How long have you been into GTA V (or the GTA series in general?)
Since late 2020. I started school in the dead of winter, in the middle of full-swing Covid restrictions, coming out of one of the worst periods of my life. I played on a projector in my dorm room. Loved it. The sunny, lighthearted atmosphere really kept me sane.
👔 13. What is your favourite clothing store in-game?(Ponsonbys, Binco, Suburban, discount stores)
Suburban. They’ve got the best options for all three characters; the discount store is kinda Trevor’s place, Ponsonbys’ is for Michael (and Frank’s earrings,) etc. I really wish we had more jewelry options for all three of the mains. I LOVE those little studs Franklin can wear, and I really think Michael would look good in a watch. And we can put Trevor in nipple rings.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This week we open on the set of a movie. An actress is perturbed that the leading man, Pratt, has kept her waiting six hours. The director tries to placate her, but she is pissed and storms off, snapping at the crew. A gopher tells the director, Sandy, that he cannot find Pratt anywhere. So, the director calls it a day. Some are upset, some don't care, a buck is a buck. Two actresses chat, unaware someone is watching. They part ways and one is followed.
The young actress is startled by noises and a closing door, but she investigates the darkened set. She is startled by a figure in shadows, then the fan turns on and off. A spotlight turns on and as she runs, her foot is caught in a cable that the figure pulls, knocking her down. Then the light crashes on to her, killing her. The figure collects some of her blood in a jar.
At Curious Goods, our trio is working on antiques, packing them for the William Pratt picture in town. Micki checks her reflection and Ryan and Jack playfully tease her about it. She is excited they are working on the film and, by default, with the handsome actor Pratt. Ryan says every woman in the country feels the same way as her. Micki scoffs, but plays along with them.
At the set the next day, the gopher tells Sandy the director that Pratt is on set, in his motor home. Sandy is snapping at everyone, upset that the actress had to die on his set. He is ready to sue Pratt for all the delays. He is confronted with the leading lady, Tanya,  and again plays peacemaker. Todd the gopher tells Pratt they are ready on set, he says he will be there in a moment, as he opens an old makeup case.
The crew is filming a scene as Micki and Ryan come in with antiques. They watch the action after being snapped at to be quiet. Micki is enthralled by Pratt as he kisses an actress in the scene. Sandy yells cut, he loves it. Todd leads Micki and Ryan off with the props, but Micki manages to catch Pratt's eye, as her red hair glows from the spotlight.
Pratt approaches them, introducing himself, but all his attention is on Micki. He wants to talk later, she is in awe. Todd calls the actor away and Pratt orders him to get Geary, a reporter, off his set. Ryan tells Micki she is drooling.
In his motor home dressing room, Pratt is surprised to find Geary inside, waiting. The reporter wants to know the man's backstory, since he apparently came from nowhere. Pratt wants him out. Geary pushes, threatening to go on air with what he does know. Pratt calls for security, Geary teases the man with his possible real name. Pratt makes him leave, the reporter gives him until tomorrow to give him more information. Alone, Pratt is angry. But he is momentarily soothed when he looks at a photo. But he panics when he notices a change in the appearance of his hand.
Later, Geary calls his producer and tells him he wants a five minute segment on Pratt ready to go for tomorrow. There is a knock at the door, room service. Geary hangs up and opens the door. Not paying any attention to the waiter, since his interview show is on the television. Geary turns up the volume of the set as he enters the tub. His show is a tabloid journalism type show. He enjoys listening to himself, unaware the waiter is coming into his bathroom. He recognizes the man and is shocked, literally, when the man tosses the television into the bathwater, killing him. The waiter leaves with his room service cart, and a goblet filled with blood.
On set, Pratt and Tanya play a scene. He has to threaten and choke the actress, but he takes it too far, really hurting her. She screams and slaps him as the director has to yell cut. Pratt ignores the man and approaches Micki, flirting with her. He then brings her to the director, telling him to replace Tanya with Micki as the leading lady. Pratt pushes, so the director has no choice but to have Todd send Micki to makeup and wardrobe. Ryan comes up as Micki is whisked off.
Being worked on by the makeup artist, Micki is nervous, but the woman tells her she has the bones and the look for it.  And Pratt believes in her, so that is all that counts. She has been on every Pratt film and never saw him so enraptured by one woman. Ryan comes up and is also impressed by how Micki looks. Pratt shows up to take Micki back with him. The woman mentions Pratt needs a touch up himself. He thanks her and heads off. Ryan asks the woman why she didn't touch him up, she says Pratt does his own makeup, has a case he says is his good luck charm, and he keeps it safe. Ryan is intrigued.
Another scene is being shot, this time with Micki in the lead role. Sandy and the crew watch, not hating what they see. But Tonya is less than impressed and goes for the telephone. In character, Pratt and Micki kiss. Sandy yells cut, but it takes them a bit to stop. The crew applauds. Tonya yells at Sandy and stomps off.  Sandy then tells Pratt that while Micki was good, Tonya is threatening to sue, so no go with replacing her. He offers to tell Micki, but Pratt says he will do it himself.
At the store, Ryan is going through the manifest. Micki comes in, dressed for dinner with Pratt. Ryan warns her not to go. He thinks Pratt is dangerous, but Micki thinks he is just being paranoid. Ryan can't convince her, as the car horn beeps and she storms out. Jack comes down after all the commotion. Ryan tells him of his suspicions. He mentions the makeup kit, which Jack finds quickly in the book. Seems it was owned by John Wilkes Booth and Lewis sold it to a Jeff Emory. Jack tells Ryan to go and keep an eye on Micki, he will look into the antique.
In her dressing room, Tonya is talking to herself when there is a knock on the door. It is Pratt, he says he needs her. She tells him to go to Hell. He enters anyway. He tells her only she can make him look good and when he approaches, Tonya is shocked by his appearance. He grabs her and her acting award and kills her with it. Then he collects the blood that is spilled and drips some on the makeup case. It bubbles and dissolves into he wood and the latches pop open. Pratt, horribly disfigured, then uses the makeup inside to change his appearance back to his handsome self. After he leaves the trailer, it explodes and burst into flames.
On their date later, Pratt leads Micki to a dinner set up along the waterfront, with the skyline of the city in view. He tells the waiter to take off and pours them both champagne. He apologizes for Tonya, but Micki says the woman does have a contract. Micki is impressed by the treatment.  Pratt says he was tired of being lonely, but Micki can't imagine him having a hard time finding a date. Pratt tells her he would like to do the story of Beauty and the Beast, since the Beast had beauty inside. They toast as Micki is grown more smitten by the moment.
Jack goes and sees his old friend, an agent who books all kinds of acts, including magicians. He asks the man about Jeff Amory, and the name rings a bell. His friend looks in his file and tells Jack the man was hunchback type, who could only get roles in horror flicks. He tells Jack about an actress who Emory had a crush on, a red-head. When she went away with a different man, Emory followed and killed the man with an axe. The actress ran off and fell off a cliff. The police found them the next day with Emory cradling her body. He was sent to an asylum.  Jack asks to take the file and the two man laugh at old times.
Back at the shop, Jack calls to Ryan and asks about Micki. She left before Ryan woke up. Jack tells Ryan about Emory. Jack says Emory could be Pratt. Ryan tells Jack to wait in case Micki calls and he heads to the movie set.
Pratt and Micki are there, in his convertible. Pratt wants to know why they aren't shooting so he approaches Sandy, who tells him Tonya died when her trailer exploded. Pratt still wants them to film, but Sandy says there have been too many accidents and they are shut down, it's over. He is going back to Europe. Pratt tells him to call the studio and check his contract. This is not over. Ryan, meanwhile, is snooping around Pratt's trailer.
Pratt comes into his trailer and Ryan hides. The actor packs up his stuff and gets the makeup case, as well, as Ryan spies on him. Pratt leaves and heads to his car with Micki waiting. She asks where they are going and he tells her where no one knows they will be. Ryan is too late to stop them.
Alone at night, Pratt and Micki kiss and make love. The next morning, they wake in bed together. Micki kisses him and then spots a horrible boil on his head. He rushes to the bathroom as the boil pulses. Micki bangs on the door to help. When Pratt comes out, he has gotten rid of the disfigurement somehow, laughing it off. He says they should go away, he knows a place by Evergreen Lake. Micki is thrilled with the idea.
Ryan and Jack come back to the store and see that Micki still hasn't come back. Jack checks the answering machine. She left a message about going to the lake. She also says she thinks she is falling in love. Jack tells Ryan Evergreen Lake is where Emory killed the other man. They rush off.
Pratt and Micki, in his convertible, make a stop at a gas station. Micki is worries cause he doesn't appear well. He says it is just allergies and heads to the bathroom. The attendant asks Micki if that is really William Pratt. He'd like his autograph. In the bathroom, Pratt's face is getting worse, but the makeup case isn't helping now. Micki asks the attendant to check on him when he is gone while. Pratt tells him to go away at first, begging the makeup case to not force him. As the attendant steps inside, Pratt grabs him.
More worried, Micki heads to the bathroom herself. Pratt is applying his makeup, blood all over the sink and mirror. Micki knocks and he drops the glass jar, breaking it. He says he is good now. When she asks about the attendant, he says the make took off. They leave as blood seeps out under the door.
They arrive at the lake and Micki wakes up. Pratt is acting weird. Micki goes to check them in under her name. Pratt asks her for room number five and she smiles, but seems concerned. He then writhes in pain as his faces changes. Meanwhile, Ryan and Jack rush to the lake.
Micki comes back out and Pratt is missing. She heads for the cabin and sees the lights inside go out. Inside, Pratt hides. Micki comes in and calls for him, he tells Diana to stay away. She is confused. Pratt goes from shadow to shadow, not making sense to her. He says she doesn't know who he is and keeps calling her Diana. Micki tells him not to be afraid. He says she will leave him when she sees him. She says never. He tells Diana it is him, Jeff Emory. When he turns around, Micki is shocked by his grotesque appearance. Emory/Pratt grabs her saying she promised never to leave him. Jack and Ryan arrive.
Pratt holds Micki confusing her with Diana. He says she never loved him and begins to strangle her. Micki plays along, saying she does love him. He says to prove it by kissing him. Micki does, and Pratt cries, saying she does love him. Ryan and Jack burst in as Micki is cradling the crying, confused man. Ryan picks up the makeup case.
Later, at night, Ryan and Jack go up to Micki's bedroom. She is sitting on her bed, crying. They ask how she's doing. Jack tells her she was brave. Ryan says Pratt is going to be put away. She wants to know why she is crying over a murderer. Jack says she saw more than that in him. She says he was lonely inside, and Ryan says they all have that inside. Jack then tells her about an actor who played monsters but was one of the kindest people he had ever met. The man was Boris Karloff, but his real name was William Pratt. Micki hugs Jack as the show ends on a picture of the disfigured Pratt on her dressing table.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My thoughts:
This is a great show, with an interesting cursed item and a very sympathetic character. Pratt is truly the Beast to Micki's Beauty, and she does see the loneliness inside the man. She doesn't even completely turn away from him after he is revealed in his hideous form. She kisses him, to save her life, but also comforts him as he descends into madness.
Pratt, too, isn't black and white. Sure, he is evil, killing people just so he can stay handsome and popular. But, in the end, he just wanted some to love him for who he is inside. And when Micki does show him that kindness, he doesn't kill her but merely collapses into himself.
Ryan and Jack are more supporting here, but their relationships are played so well. They tease Micki and she teases back. They worry about her and work to see if Pratt truly is dangerous, but they don't outright try and stop her, at first, knowing she is a grown woman who is free to make her own choices.
I like, too, at the end when Pratt is acting hinky, Micki isn't just completely ignoring the signs in her infatuation with the actor. She rolls her eyes and such to show that, handsome or not, he is acting weird.
The makeup case is interesting as a cursed item. We know they are indestructible, so when Pratt drops the glass jar he is using to apply the cursed makeup, we must assume the jar is something he provided to the case and not original to it at the time it was cursed, or it would not have shattered. Also an interesting tie-in to make it having once been owned by maybe the most infamous actor-turned-killer, John Wilkes Booth.
Also like the idea of the shop renting non-cursed items out to movies and such. A good way for them to make some much needed money.
The story is great, although Pratt's rise to fame and fortune is a little far-fetched. But, who knows how far the curse was extending?
A great episode, well directed by the under-appreciated Tom McLoughlin.
Next week: Wax Magic

2021 NBA player rankings, Nos. 30-21: These players will be borderline All-Stars in 4 years
That means a mix of established players and some total unknowns, with little in between.
We’re now into All-Star territory on our Top 101 of 2021 NBA countdown. As such, a few of us went nuts over blue-chippers with potential, while a few others went back to good ol’ reliable NBA productivity. The end result is a nice mix of players that seemingly rank way above the previous batch on this list.
Now is when this list gets serious. Now is where our reputations, such as they even exist, will be judged.
30. Jimmy Butler
Age in 2021: 31 (10 seasons)
CHRIS GREENBERG: Jimmy Butler is not a one-trick pony. He was one of just six NBA players in the top-15 in offensive AND defensive win shares last season. The others? Kawhi, Westbrook, Curry, Durant, and Giannis. Butler is a 27-year-old horse who will lead a group of young stallions in Minnesota.
OK, I’m out of equine metaphors, but Butler is not out of years. If Tom Thibodeau doesn’t break him, Butler will keep working hard, improve his two-way game, and make us silly for letting him slip so far. He’ll be just 31 years old in 2021. That’s younger than LeBron James right now.
Everyone else’s reactions
ERIC GOLDMAN, CANIS HOOPUS: If the Wolves have three legit top 30 guys -- Andrew Wiggins and Karl-Anthony Towns are still on the board — I'm not sure I'll know what to do with myself.
TOM ZILLER: I can’t believe Butler went this low. I almost took him at No. 21. When it looked like he’d be there at 31, I was dumbfounded. So, uh, good pick.
MATT ELLENTUCK: Letting Butler slip this low is one of our collective worst crimes in this draft.
MIKE PRADA: I was deciding between Butler and the No. 25 guy on this list, and it was very difficult.
JOHN MEYER, CANIS HOOPUS: I don't care what his rating is in 2021. I just hope the Wolves will have figured out how to clone him by then.
RICKY O’DONNELL: Still not over how stupid the Bulls are.
KRISTIAN WINFIELD: I just want an argyle sock monkey.
More reading material
29. Rudy Gobert
Age in 2021: 29 (8 seasons)
KRISTIAN WINFIELD: The risk of taking a big man in these drafts is their susceptibility to injury, and Rudy Gobert is equally at risk. As long as he stays healthy, however, he has the physical tools to become the league’s most imposing defensive center over the next few years. With that title, how could he not be a top-30 player.
Everyone else’s reactions
TOM ZILLER: Kristian with a shockingly sane pick!
WHITNEY MEDWORTH: There’s a first for everything.
MATT ELLENTUCK: Fam, he doesn’t play for the Knicks though.
MYCHAL LOWMAN, SLC DUNK: Being rated at No. 29 in 2021 is no small feat for Gobert, as he will be pushing the end of his prime at age 29. We think he’ll have anchored the Jazz for the lastfour4 years as their main star alongside phenom Donovan Mitchell on the outside.
TIM CATO: My only concern is this: headed into the 2013 season, there were five centers in the top-25, according to one list. Those five were Dwight Howard, Marc Gasol, Joakim Noah, Al Horford, and Roy Hibbert. Two have fallen off completely, another two have clearly declined, and only Gasol is hanging onto his same level of production.
The career of a center can die a swift, quick death, and Gobert already has a history of injuries. Gobert remaining in the top-30 come 2021 is far from certain.
More reading material
28. Andrew Wiggins
Age in 2021: 26 (7 seasons)
WHITNEY MEDWORTH: Wiggins will still only be 26 in 2021. Assuming that playing for Thibodeau doesn’t make his body feel like he’s actually 36, he’ll be just fine. Playing alongside a veteran in Jimmy Butler won’t hurt his game. It’ll only help it.
Everyone else’s reactions
JOHN MEYER, CANIS HOOPUS: I really wish you guys would have doubled down on your 2013 prediction (No. 8) just to get the people going.
ERIC GOLDMAN, CANIS HOOPUS: Sweet, he's going to learn to play defense!
MIKE PRADA: I’m worried about Wiggins. We know he can score, but he continues to show a troubling disinclination to do much else despite his immense physical gifts. Maybe Butler helps, or maybe his intense demeanor clashes with Wiggins’ mild-mannered nature like oil and water. Glen Taylor’s request that Wiggins commit to improving before handing him a maximum contract was patronizing as hell, but it says something that Taylor believed he needs to say those things, does it not?
It’s possible the above paragraph looks dumb in four years and Wiggins reaches his full potential. Maybe he needs tough love after all. I hope so!
But this is a big season for Wiggins, and I’m not sure the conditions are all set up for him to thrive.
TOM ZILLER: Glen Taylor hired David Kahn. I don’t think we need to defer to his basketball expertise. I think Thibodeau and Butler will be excellent for Wiggins: he’s going to continue to be challenged to improve every day.
KRISTIAN WINFIELD: He needs to step up.
27. Bradley Beal
Age in 2021: 27 (9 seasons)
TIM CATO: How the hell is Bradley Beal only 23? I swear he’s been in the league since the Napoleonic Era.
There’s injuries to consider, sure, but we’re all encouraged by his career year posted last season: career highs in points per game, field goal percentage, made threes, and assists, all while keeping his turnovers (2.0) exactly the same as the previous two seasons. That’s a stellar sign for his future.
Everyone else’s reactions
TOM ZILLER: What a difference one healthy year makes. There’s no way he would have gone this high last summer.
MIKE PRADA: You mean, “what a difference playing for a real coach makes.” Scott Brooks got Beal to ditch Randy Wittman’s bizarre long two fascination and dramatically upped Beal’s three-point and free-throw rates. Funny how a sweet shooter and slithery penetrator starts to look better when he’s put in a position to take the right kind of shots.
TOM ZILLER: Well, also when he’s not in street clothes. Wittman wasn’t Tonya Hardinging him out there.
MIKE PRADA: We sure about that?
CHRIS GREENBERG: Just think, by 2021 there will be even fewer people who will understand a Tonya Harding reference. Gillooly!
KRISTIAN WINFIELD: Not better than C.J. McCollum.
26. Dennis Smith Jr.
Age in 2021: 23 (4 seasons)
KOFIE YEBOAH: Dennis Smith Jr. has superstar potential. The athleticism is crazy and his aggressive nature around the rim paired with that athleticism will be a sight to behold in the league for years to come.
People may be concerned about his health, and that’s understandable. However, Smith Jr. was excellent in Summer League, and that was just a sample of what he can do in the years to come.
Everyone else’s reactions
DOYLE RADER, MAVS MONEYBALL: Even though Smith Jr. is often mentioned in the Rookie of the Year discussion, this is an extremely high ranking, as he has yet to play a single minute of NBA basketball.
TIM CATO: Point guards take time to develop, which is my only concern about this rankings. Everything else, pending health, points to Smith being so, so good. He’s not just athletic, he’s wow-are-we-witnessing-evolution-right-now explosive. He’s a gifted passer with a more-than-passable jump shot. The defensive instincts are there, though — like many rookies — there is still work that can be done. In a sea of tall point guards this draft, Smith may seem short ... but he’s still 6’3!
Maybe he’s still developing in 2021, but I’m convinced he’ll end up somewhere very high on this list.
MIKE PRADA: Yeah, let’s slllooowwww down on these young point guards. It usually takes a while for them to make their mark.
KRISTIAN WINFIELD: Kofie drank the juice, y’all.
MATT ELLENTUCK: LET THE YOUNG POINT GUARDS GROW.
KOFIE YEBOAH: THE FUTURE IS HERE, MATT!
TOM ZILLER: For the record, this was the point in the draft where I knew I’d be getting wonderful value on players currently in the 26-29 age range.
25. Klay Thompson
Age in 2021: 31 (10 seasons)
MIKE PRADA: If you’re tall and can shoot the lights out, you will age beautifully. Extra points for being a terrific defender, too. The question is whether Thompson will achieve this ranking by remaining the Warriors’ most underappreciated star or by balling out on his own team.
Everyone else’s reactions
TOM BEVILACQUA, GOLDEN STATE OF MIND: By the year 2021, Klay will be about the same age Ray Allen was when he was traded to Boston. Allen probably ranked just outside the top 25 of NBA players at that time, but Klay is a better defensive player than Allen was, so I’d say this seems about right.
TIM CATO: To put it in memespeak, Reggie Miller -> upgrade button -> Klay Thompson. I’d love to see him run the show somewhere before his prime is over.
WHITNEY MEDWORTH: I’m with Tim here. I think he may take a chance on himself in free agency in 2018 and I hope he does. For as much of a green light Thompson has in Golden State, I’d like to see it get even greener on another team.
KRISTIAN WINFIELD: I don’t think Thompson has takeover ability. He’s the league’s best two-way shooting guard — the ultimate role player. Not sure he goes higher than No. 25 no matter who’s around him.
TIM CATO: Ain’t no role player who ever dropped 60 points in 29 minutes.
WHITNEY MEDWORTH: On 11 dribbles.
KRISTIAN WINFIELD: In a system that benefits him, with shooters spacing the floor and selfless teammates actively finding the open man. Take all that away and what happens?
KOFIE YEBOAH: This happens.
BRADY KLOPFER, GOLDEN STATE OF MIND: This feels right to me, but I could easily see him being a good bit lower. Klay isn’t a phenomenal athlete by any stretch of the imagination, so any hit he takes on that front could have a pretty large impact. It wouldn’t shock me if he’s a decidedly average defensive player by the time he’s in his 30s, and if he stays in GS for the next few years, his offensive game may not develop much further.
Then again, he’s one of the greatest shooters of all time and knows his limitations as well or better than any star in the game.
24. DeMarcus Cousins
Age in 2021: 30 (11 seasons)
MATT ELLENTUCK: DeMarcus Cousins has defied odds by becoming a legitimate three-point shooter at 36 percent in his seventh season in the league. He nearly doubled his attempts from the season before, and in his first five seasons took less than one per game.
Cousins knows how to adapt to survive as a big man in this league, and I have no doubt he’ll continue to make the necessary adjustments to stay among the top centers in the game.
Everyone else’s reactions
OLEH KOSEL, THE BIRD WRITES: Probably easier to just flip a coin. Additional missed postseasons could effectively kill off Boogie's in-the-best-shape-of-his-life alter-ego completely and allow malcontent DMC to reign supreme.
On a more positive note, the Fire-and-Ice relationship with Anthony Davis and subsequent playoff trips give way to a maturer Cousins, one who uses his vast array of skills for the greater good of his team to justify a top-25 ranking in four years.
MIKE PRADA: How many teams will Cousins play for between now and 2021?
KRISTIAN WINFIELD: Think the better question is how many wins will Boogie have between now and 2021?
CHRIS GREENBERG: More Boogie, please.
TOM ZILLER: No comment.
MIKE PRADA: All seriousness, Boogie’s offensive evolution ain’t the issue. It’s his defense and conditioning, neither of which has ever been up to par for the new NBA as of yet. Plus, there’s all the other stuff.

23. Luka Doncic
Age in 2021: 22 (3 seasons)
RICKY O’DONNELL: I’m buying the hype on Doncic, the 17-year-old Slovenian wunderkind who could be the first pick in the next NBA draft, for two reasons: his productivity and his skill level.
He’s already one of the best players in one of the best leagues in the world during a time when his American peers are in high school. He’s also a 6’8 point guard who can shoot, pass, and finish while playing the game with a rare creativity. I’ll bet on that advanced skill level over more athletic American prospects this time around.
Everyone else’s reactions
TOM ZILLER: Fran Fraschilla is going to swell to twice his normal size talking about Doncic next June at the draft.
MIKE PRADA: Been a lot of fun watching him in Eurobasket, but this feels too soon for him to be an all-star caliber player. Put him in the top 10 on the 2025 list.
MATT ELLENTUCK: You lost me at “the 17-year-old ...”
KRISTIAN WINFIELD: I don’t know much about this kid, so I’m just gonna nod in agreement.
CHRIS GREENBERG: Considering where we’ve got REDACTED, I guess, this, maybe, makes sense. Either way, I’m here for the 6’8 point guards.

22. Myles Turner
Age in 2021: 25 (6 seasons)
ZITO MADU: At just 21 years old, he’s already one of the best shot blockers in the league and the rare big man who can shoot threes, at least at a respectable level. He has a lot to improve on the offensive end and defending the post, but with such a great foundation and the spotlight on him now with Paul George, I expect for him to steadily improve.
Everyone else’s reactions
CAITLIN COOPER, INDY CORNROWS: Prime-age stretch 5s aren't going to suddenly depreciate in value by 2021, so there could be room for Myles Turner in the Top-25 somewhere behind Joel Embiid, Karl-Anthony Towns, Nikola Jokic, and Kristaps Porzingis if his then fully developed frame is less apt to shy away from contact as the key cog within what is hopefully a more modern and imaginative offense.
MIKE PRADA: This is asking a hell of a lot from Turner. I know Pacers fans are desperate for a face of the franchise that embraces them, but we’re talking about him being a perennial all-star if he’s this high. It’s possible, but I would’ve taken the safer route and picked him several spots lower.
I worry the absence of George will simply raise expectations too much.
TOM ZILLER: This is going to be a very interesting season for Turner. I’m a little concerned about how much his guards can help him develop.
WHITNEY MEDWORTH: GREAT PICK, ZITO. I’m serious. I love this pick.

21. Markelle Fultz
Age in 2021: 23 (4 seasons)
You may now realize that though many prospects from the 2017 draft class have been selected, an auspicious name has not yet come up. That is disrespect. I know my name is a bad word in some parts of Philly (despite my unrelenting Dion Waiters boosterism) but that is disrespect I cannot allow to stand.
Everyone else’s reactions
TIM CATO: Just throwing this out there: I’ve talked to a surprising number of people within the NBA who think Fultz will never be anything other than an empty stats all-star on a bad team. I don’t think I agree, but it’s worth noting.
MIKE PRADA: Do they all work for the Boston Celtics?
TIM CATO: Yes. (OK, no, but it seems clear to me that Boston had the same concerns.)
CHRIS GREENBERG: With Simmons starting at point for Philly, this just seems kind of high for a backup. Right?
TOM ZILLER: Oh, my Shammgod, the disrespect! You all should probably delete Twitter from your phones now.
KRISTIAN WINFIELD: Lonzo Ball will be better. No disrespect, Fultz. You’re dope, too.
