I feel like Sova's dislike of Cypher reveals something interesting about his character, though I haven't figured out what exactly the angle is.
Overall, Sova (and the other VP agents) keeps Omega agents distinct from his actual teammates.
When referring to Omega, he usually goes with "their [agent name]"; ie "Their Breach has no patience at all..." or "Their Jett is fast!..."
He seems to blur the line when it comes to three agents: Brimstone, Breach, and Cypher.
Out of these three, Breach is the least notable. Sova's only lapse in distinction only comes when he kills Omega Breach and calls him "Thug". Otherwise, his voice line regarding Omega Breach remains fairly analytical--he points out a weakness and warns his team to watch out.
With Brimstone, both Sova's interactions are somewhat sentimental: "Captain killed" and "Be at peace, my friend". I doubt Sova's actually friends with Omega Brimstone, so this feels more of a projection onto Omega Brimstone. This feels reasonable as it seems Sova is close with Brimstone.
With Cypher, it just feels like there's a lot of strong emotions there. Even compared to how Sova talks about other Omega agents, his voice lines regarding Omega Cypher are actually pretty harsh? Or petty? Only one of his lines is dedicated towards being tactical and helpful, the others just reflect Sova's personal feelings (being fed up with secrets etc). For Sova to project so heavily onto Cypher, it feels like there's more to the rivalry than simple annoyance.
The only interpretations I have is either:
The devs already stated that their work ethics clash, with Sova valuing honesty and transparency and Cypher being shifty as hell. It could be that Sova does place a fair amount of effort and value into forging mutual trust, and takes Cypher's continued lack of honesty very personally.
We know that Sova isn't always antagonistic towards Cypher, in his commend line. So it seems that Sova might be willing to extend good will to Cypher.
OR
Sova genuinely distrusts Cypher's goals/believes Cypher's objective ultimately does not align with the Protocol's. Considering he doesn't have as strong a reaction with working with Reyna or Breach, it seems strange that he'd be so adamant about staying suspicious of Cypher. This seems to imply that he, at the very least, trusts Reyna and Breach to work with VP to save Earth/not betray VP while dealing with the Omega threat--but he does not share the same assurance with Cypher. Does he know something about Cypher we don't to hold such strong sentiments?
I don't think he's the type to purposefully try and dig into someone's trauma--like dead family and such. I think he knows enough nuance to understand that's not something you share with anyone. I do think Sova is looking for something with more ramifications than that.
(Though, whether he knows he's looking for trauma or not is debatable. Perhaps he's thinking Cypher's hiding a deep dark secret about a past business deal or whatever and it turns out it's all just dead loved ones hiding in the closet. If that happens, I don't think Sova can make a friendship from that, much less recover a relationship as coworkers... invasion of privacy and for what? to re-traumatize a man and make him go through a second maybe third mid-life crisis?)
OR
(somewhat related to the above speculation) This might take a while to build up, so bear with me.
Sova is the 6th the join the Protocol; he's joined fairly early. Considering how it was only him and Cypher who did investigative work before Fade, it seems likely that he would have been involved in checking the backgrounds of new agents--or at least, would be privy to the (whole or partial) results of Cypher's investigation of them. In any case, he would know enough about their history and motives for joining VP.
Similarly, it seems he's familiar enough with Viper's background and motives--he knows she wants revenge and that she used to be a scientist; he knows her tragic backstory well enough to hold sympathy for her. Whether he knows the details or not is unimportant; he knows enough to form an opinion.
Omen doesn't know his past, so there's nothing to dig up.
Sova seems close to Brimstone, and it seems he actively asks Brimstone to share more of his past--and Brimstone willingly does so.
However, Cypher is the only one who he has nothing on (presumably, we don't actually know if Sova's hunt for secrets actually yielded anything).
It could be that Sova doesn't actually extend trust to someone until he knows enough about them. Which I find kind of surprising, seeing how open and optimistic people write him and how friendly his voice lines are to his allies; you would think that he'd be all accepting, but this might actually establish him as a person who is a lot more strict in his conduct. He doesn't give chances until his conditions of honesty and transparency are met.
(on a somewhat related but also off-topic note, considering how Sova's went through multiple rifts--not just one, but rifts plural like who does that.... even if all of them led to omega earth and not some dangerous other dimension, omega earth is supposedly devastated by climate crisis and is uninhabitable in some areas to the point that its people have to live in geo-domes--and how excited he sounds when he says "come, into the unknown", maybe he's just a really nosy person and he can't help himself trying to tear open the pile of secrets wrapped in a trench coat that is Cypher. Cypher's just like, a special interest pet project to him)

Hi! May I request a fic or HCs (if you’re comfortable with one of these choices) involving Ryo Kiritani (Yoru) with VP agent![Reader] [Gender Neutral or Female] [Romantic] gifting him a new knife to add in his collection? I think it’s canon he has a hobby like that and [Reader] happen to pick one up from their previous mission.
Surprise! [Request]
Here you are, hope it's a good one! The request was kinda short. I tried my best to make due, haha.
Words: 1500+
❤ฺ·。
You and the cold never got along well. And that includes any country that involves it. Like Russia, Canada, Norway, that sort.
So when you were assigned a mission in Icebox, of course it felt like the longest day of your life. From the fur on your coat making you sneeze every other second, to the enemies bringing every single person who had a flash along. Now, your eyes were burning too.
But after what felt like days, it was thankfully over, and you were making your way to the aircraft from mid with something in your pocket for your other half.
Then, you felt a slap on your back.
“Hey bestie! Did you see me back there? It was insane! I would’ve gotten all of them if it wasn’t for–”
You sneezed, a quiet achoo. And as per usual, Jett couldn’t stifle her laughter, slapping your back again.
“Your sneezes are so cute!”
“You’re making the fur fly into my nose!”
“I’m doing you a favour. Just sneeze around Yoru and I bet he’d act like he was under a love spell!”
You met her gaze in confusion.
“He’s already my boyfriend, remember?”
“Tomato tomato.”
She shrugged. And with a sigh, you pulled out the object in your pocket, the gentle rays of the sun reflecting off of it.
“Hey, when’d you get this?”
“Not mine. Yoru dropped it when he ran in behind them, I wanna give it back.”
“Cool! I’ve never seen this before. He’s been whining about his collection lately, did he get this?”
As blunt as her statement was, Yoru had been thinking about getting a new knife to spice things up. You went to a bladesmith secretly to find something a few days ago, but none of it seemed like it would impress him.  Of course, you were disappointed he bought a new knife before you did.
She suddenly took it from your hands and began playing with it.
“Careful, Yoru gets mad if there’s one imperfection.”
“Don’t be such a drama queen, I’m an expert at knives. I killed two of them today with just two! I think all the practice is finally paying off.”
“Yeah?”
But before you could continue the conversation, the distant chatter of your teammates took over the sound of the ice crunching under your shoes, the aircraft sitting right next to them. Viper, who had her hands on her hips, noticed you whilst she was talking and waved you all over.
Jett quickly handed you back the pocket knife.
“I have to go yell at Phoenix, he ruined my killstreak!”
And with that, she disappeared into the aircraft, leaving you to join the conversation Viper was having with Yoru and Sage who seemed relieved to see you. But what caught your eye was that Yoru was flipping his signature butterfly comb in his hand. Did he seriously bring two knives?
“Good, you’re here. Are you hurt at all, Y/N?”
Sage asked and you shook your head with a smile, struggling to suppress an upcoming sneeze.
“Then let’s go back. This weather is sickening.”
Viper noted before she and Sage quickly entered the VLT/R, leaving you alone with Yoru.
“Hey, princess. What took you so long?”
“Oh, you know, Jett was bragging about toda–”
You sneezed, cupping your hands on your cold, cold face.
“Yea, I saw her. Keep this between us, but it was pretty good.”
Unlike your friends, Yoru didn’t react to your sneezing and simply continued the conversation. After the fifth time, it got old and he didn’t care as much as your friends did. But to be fair, when did he ever care?
“Yo, how many knives did you bring today?”
“One. Why?”
Though you asked in a way to somewhat tease him, his reaction left you confused.
“Just one?”
“Yeah, this one.”
He flipped his butterfly comb shut and held it up, raising an eyebrow.
“Is the cold getting you, or something? Hurry up, let’s get you warm before something happens to you.”
“I’m not a kid–”
Before you could complete your sentence, he grabbed your wrist and pulled you inside the aircraft, shutting you up as politely as he could. But that doesn’t mean you weren’t weirded out by what he just told you.
If this wasn’t his knife, then whose was it? On the handle, there clearly was an oni engraving. Even down to the way the horns would stick out with impressive sharpness, how the creature’s devilish eyes were slanted downwards and providing a formidable villainous aura. It screamed Yoru in every possible sense.
…whatever. You’ll worry your head off when you’re warm. You lay your head on Yoru’s shoulder and were basically half-asleep the whole ride back to the base.
❤ฺ·。
Your nose was red, and so were your cheeks. Your hands were ice cold, lips and the tips of your fingers a light shade of blue.
With all of this combined, you were now locked up in your room covered with, at the very least, three thick wool blankets, one Yoru brought himself in order to keep you warm, and one of his thick hoodies before he had left to make you that drink to warm you up. Which you hoped would be hot chocolate.
Maybe you were asking for too much, but he knew what he was getting into by dating you. He calls you ‘princess’ for a reason, after all.
But this situation was perfect for you.
In your hand lay that pocket knife. Clean from the soot after today’s mission. And now you knew now where it came from.
Considering that Yoru wanted a new knife for his collection, and this wasn’t something he bought recently, it would make the perfect gift for one reason.
What knife could possibly impress your pedantic boyfriend? That’s right, a knife he himself would have.
The door slid open and Yoru’s familiar footsteps echoed through the quiet space, before it slammed shut. You lifted yourself from the blankets with a smile, hiding the weapon in your sleeves with a cheeky idea in mind.
“Hey. Still up for tea?”
“Tea? Pshh. You’re so lame.”
“You’re out of cocoa powder.”
“I’m out of what?”
He shrugged and sat next to you.
“Phoenix took it, but you didn’t hear it from me. Call me if you guys start fistfighting, though.”
You rolled your eyes and pulled him closer to you, wrapping the blankets around him as well. But you couldn’t help but be annoyed at Phoenix. Though he’s your friend, he stole the last remaining cocoa.
You’ll cancel his Christmas, for sure.
You grabbed the cup of tea with your free hand so as to not let the weapon accidentally slip out. The herbal scent of the drink filled your nostrils, the heat of it gently warming up your trachea. You never liked tea before you met him, but he somehow made matcha anything taste heavenly.
Then, you straightened your back and stared at his face.
“What?”
“Yo, I think there’s something behind your ear.”
He raised an eyebrow.
“My what?”
“Let me get that for you.”
You brought your hand to his right ear out of his vision. Then, you slowly drew it back, the pocket knife slowly appearing within your hands like magic.
“Woah, babe, what is this?”
You called out with faux shock, unable to keep yourself from grinning. His eyes glimmered with an immense amount of confusion as he watched you dangle the object between your fingers, before smiling and lightly slapping your arm.
“Stop. That’s so cheesy.”
You giggled. It really was.
Yoru took the knife from your hand and observed the handle the same way a critic would. Though his expression remained as vacant as it always was, you could tell he was impressed.
The oni on it was something he’d definitely come up with, so it left him awestruck in every sense of the word.
“Woah. Where’d you buy this?”
“A magician never reveals her secrets, babe.”
He clicked his tongue and met your gaze.
“Cut me some slack, princess. Didn’t I show you my knives before?”
Yoru jokingly pouted, earning a chuckle from you.
He was fairly hush hush about his collection, considering how much his friends liked to ask for his things. Knives, food, hair gel, jackets, that stuff. Not even Raze saw a single knife from it. But so what if he showed you something he’d never ever show to anyone else unless he was six feet under, right?
Okay, that sounded bad.
You took a sip with a shrug, allowing the fluid to warm up your digestive system. And only within a few seconds, it succeeded ten times more than the blankets ever could. At least you weren’t senselessly sneezing.
As he observed the open knife in his hand, you cuddled up to him, closing your eyes.
“Fine, you big baby. I stole it from your double’s body.”
Yeah. From the look on your face, he could tell you weren’t joking whatsoever.
“Weirdo.”
You lightly laughed, taking another sip of your matcha tea.

Ben Rich’s book “Skunk Works” is the best book I’ve read about what went on behind the scenes when they built the SR 71 highly recommended. Here is the scoop on the book: my father worked very closely with Ben as Dad was the Director of special projects for the Skunk Works.
I think Ben knew something was wrong with his health before the tumor was found. He told me he wanted to get the book, “Skunk Works,” done before he was too old and couldn’t remember things. He talked about Kelly and how he lost it before he could write more things down and others he knew who had put off writing until it was too late. ( Ben died of cancer of the esophagus age 69)
He asked me to help with the book. I talked into a tape recorder for about an hour and gave it to him. When the book came out, every story I told had been changed a little bit. I believe it was done so the Government could deny the story if asked by the Russians. Also, the CIA deleted the Glomar Explorer and Sea Shadow. It was for security issues, but they wanted to take the credit themselves. The book AZORIAN brings up the K-129 sounds like the CIA did it all by themselves.
I believe the real message he wanted to give the country was that our ability to do things fast, cheap, and right the first time was quickly going away. The defense acquisition process in Washington was killing activities like the SW. And it did, just like he predicted.
-60 Minutes the TV Show-
When Ben’s book was being published, his publisher was looking for ways to promote the book. Somehow, they got 60 minutes interested, and Ben gave them my name to be interviewed for the program. I did not know Ben had given my name to them. I never watch 60 Minutes because of how badly they treated the military and always only told half the story.
They called one night at home and asked me when they could talk to me about going on the show. I told them, “I wouldn’t appear on your sleazy bag program if you paid me.” A few minutes later, Ben called; he was distraught. I believe this was the only time ever that Ben and I argued.
Ben was looking at it from his point of view: how to get the book sales going. I knew that 60 Minutes did not want to discuss what was in the book, as they had told Ben. They wanted to talk about what was not in the book, and I told Ben so. The CIA and Air Force, who had given security clearance for the release of the book, had changed all the stories in the book that I had given to Ben a little. They, 60 Minutes, were going to ask, in my opinion, things like, how many times did you fly over China? , Russia? , Cuba? And on and on.
After about one hour of going back and forth with Ben, I agreed to go on the show, but only if Air Force Security sat next to me and any question for 60 minutes asked, security, would tell me if I could answer or not.
Sixty minutes would not go for this arrangement at all, so my input to the show was canceled. A few days later, the Lockheed VP of Corporate Communications came to see me in the Washington Office. She said that you do not have the right, as a Lockheed employee, to turn down such a request as to appear on 60 minutes. I told her, “I am not paid by Lockheed to go on 60 minutes or any other show that is what they pay the CEO to do.” I never heard from her again. Written by Colonel Richard “Butch” Sheffield.
This should give you an idea of the kind of personality that my father had. I sure do miss him. ~Linda

Trump is NOT CONSERVATIVE because he's anti-war. "The ex-VP intimated that the only conservative position, therefore, was a continuation of the war."-neocons
Earth to Mike Pence: Donald J. Trump has ALWAYS been anti-war, but you knew this when you agreed to be his running mate in 2016!
Tumblr media
From The Pulse: Former Vice President Mike Pence has suggested that Donald Trump cannot make any promises to govern as a conservative if he is re-elected in the 2024 presidential election because the former President would implement a quick end to the war in Ukraine.
Pence claimed on CNN on Sunday that by ending the bloodshed between Russia and Ukraine, the 45th President would be “embracing the politics of appeasement on the world stage [and] walking away from our role as leader of the free world.”
“Look, the only way this war would end in a day, as my former running mate says, is if you let Vladimir Putin have what he wants, which, frankly, other candidates for the Republican nomination are advocating as well,” Pence continued, before describing Trump’s adoption of the same populism Pence himself embraced in 2016 as a growing threat.
Donald Trump announced his intention earlier this summer to bring about an end to the Ukrainian war within just 24 hours after re-entering the White House in January 2025, with the number of casualties on both sides continuing to grow. It is believed the Ukrainians have lost around 200,000 soldiers killed or wounded, and the Russians 300,000 similarly killed or wounded since the war began in February last year.
The former Vice President is not alone in fearing a swift peace if Trump were re-elected, as the former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson similarly implored the former President not to abandon the United States’ support for Ukraine.

« History has also shown us: if we only look inward, we cannot defeat threats from outside; isolation is not insulation. In fact, when America has isolated herself, threats have only grown. »
— Vice President Kamala Harris in remarks at the Munich Security Conference. Via the White House Press Office.
The VP's comments were likely directed at the anti-NATO isolationist comments emanating from Donald Trump and his MAGA lackeys.
Isolationism did not keep the United States from being drawn into World War I by the Zimmermann telegram. And in the 1930s, pro-Nazi elements in the United States encouraged isolationism to aid the Hitler régime in Germany.
Isolationism in the 2020s in the US is just a device to help the mafia-fascist Putin dictatorship in Russia.
The United States cannot separate itself from what goes on in the rest of the world either environmentally, economically, or politically. We need to support countries with similar democratic backgrounds and stand up to those trying to impose their kleptocratic totalitarian imperialism on the rest of the world.

Alex Griffing at Mediaite:
Face the Nation moderator Margaret Brennan pressed Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) on Sunday over his past praise for Viktor Orbán – Hungary’s autocratic leader who is cracking down on freedom in his country. “You gave an interview in February. You said the closest conservatives have ever gotten to successfully dealing with the left-wing domination of universities is Viktor Orbán’s approach in Hungary,” Brennan began, adding:
[I think his way has to be the model for us not to eliminate universities, but to give the choice between survival or taking a much less biased approach to teaching. He seized control of state universities and put them in foundations that were then run by his allies. Is that what you’re advocating be done in the United States?]
“Well, Margaret, what you’re seeing in the United States, actually, is that universities are controlled by left-wing foundations. They’re not controlled by the American taxpayer. And yet the American taxpayer is sending hundreds of billions of dollars to these universities every single year,” Vance replied. “I don’t want taxpayers controlling education, necessarily. Is that what you’re advocating for? Federal government control?” Brennan replied. Vance shot back, “What I’m advocating for is for taxpayers to have a say in how their money is spent. Universities are part of a social contract in this country. They educate our children. They produce important intellectual property. They get a lot of money because of it. But if they’re not educating our children well, and they’re layering the next generation down in mountains of student debt, then they’re not meeting their end of the bargain. I think it’s totally reasonable to say there needs to be a political solution to that problem.” [...]
“So but Viktor Orbán in particular, as you know, I mean, he rewrote the Constitution, he neutered the courts. He has tried to control the media. These are not necessarily conservative principles. So why would you want to mimic him?” Brennan hit back. “Well, look. I’m not endorsing every single thing that Viktor Orbán has ever done. I don’t know everything he’s ever done. What I do think is on the university, on the university principle, the idea that taxpayers should have some influence in how their money is spent at these universities. It’s a totally reasonable thing. And I do think that he’s made some smart decisions there that we could we could learn from the United States,” Vance replied. “Well, he was just welcomed at Mar-A-Lago. And as you know, leader McConnell just spoke out on the floor of the Senate this past week after Xi Jinping visited Hungary. He’s trying to broker trade deals. They’re brokering trade deals not just with Russia, but with Iran. Orbán, because of this, McConnell said it should be red flag for anyone seriously concerned about competition with China. So why take any policy cues from a man and a country and a strategy cozying up to America’s adversaries?” Brennan pressed again.
“Well, look, Margaret, Hungary is a nation of 10 million people. America is a nation of 330 million people and the most important economy in the world. I don’t think that we should take every cue, but I actually have to reject the premise here, because why is Viktor Orbán getting closer to China?
On CBS’s Face The Nation yesterday, Senator and potential Trump VP pick J.D. Vance got served by host Margaret Brennan for his record of praising Hungary’s autocratic leader Viktor Orbán.
