Jerusalem - this is a love song
A love so great that a “thousand incarnations” could not make us forget or seek out a new love
As an American born Jew, I had little connection with Israel and even less understanding… although my mother was born in Israel, although my grandmother was a freedom fighter who dedicated much of her young life to the re-establishment of the Jewish State.
In the diaspora it was Yehoram Gaon’s voice that gave me some connection to Israel.
I AM HERE was written in 1971 for Yehoram Gaon, in…

list of things that happened at my middle of nowhere Purim party
a) a relative of one of the zaydes asked me to dance with him because it was His Song. His song was Uptown Funk and he did know the words
b) the dj announced we would be hearing top Israeli dance hits. I got ready for Omer Adam. The hits ended being עוד לא אהבתי די as sung by Yehoram Gaon as that was the organizers idea of a recent Israeli dance hit

Today a giant of Israel left this world: Yoram Taharlev
As a child in America, one of my only connections to the Land of Israel was through the songs of Yehoram Gaon. To me, his was the Voice of Israel. I didn’t know that much of the soundtrack of Israel was written by Yoram Taharlev, a man whose name literally means “of pure heart.”
A few years ago, I met Taharlev by chance. Lenny recognized him immediately. To my shame, I had no idea who he was. This pure-hearted man wasn’t offended, he seemed to have no arrogance in him – the people who have the most justification to be full of themselves, never seem to be (and vice versa).
Taharlev wrote love songs to Israel, the Land and her People. He wrote odes to our soldiers, their experiences, and snippets of history that are remembered because of his words. Some songs are just pure fun.
It’s not always easy to comprehend that those who created “the classics” were once flesh and blood. Yoram Taharlev was one of those people. The Nation of Israel is poorer without his insight and talent. Perhaps saddest of all, many Jews and lovers of Israel around the world aren’t even aware of his contribution to our story and what we have lost today…
If you want to connect to the love story that is Israel, particularly if you want to help your children do so, one way could be through the works of Yoram Taharlev.

This is very bad acting. Yehoram Gaon (the grandpa) normally gives great performances, but not here.
