상속자들 / The Heirs
Tumblr media
The Heirs is a 2013 South Korean comedy/friendship/school and romance drama starring Lee Min Ho, Park Shin Hye and Kim Woo Bin.
Synopsis:
Kim Tan is a wealthy heir to Empire Group, who was exiled to the US by his brother, who tries to take control over the family business. In LA he meets Cha Eun Sang, who came to look for her older sister. Although Tan is already engaged to Yoo Rachel, a wealthy heiress, he falls for Eun Sang, a girl with a poor background. When he returns to Korea he is torn between love and duty.
This review contains some spoilers, so if you haven't watch ‘The Heirs’ but plan to do so... better not read the ‘my opinion’ section until the second picture.
My Opinion:
The ratings for this drama are incredibly low, but I still decided to watch it. Don’t ask me why, but I definitely don't regret it, although this drama has a lot of weaknesses.
The story itself is ok. It is really simple, not special at all. What was really weird about this drama was the beginning. The LA sequence doesn't make any contribution to the plot at all. It is just there and it is weird. Kim Tan could’ve met Cha Jun Sang in Korea as well and the story would’ve worked out the same way. Additionally, the plot is stuffed with clichés and more clichés, but unlike others, I found it pretty entertaining for most of the time. It got only a little annoying from time to time.

The two main leads Kim Tan and Cha Eun Sang were horrible. Cha Eun Sang just keeps running away from her problems, instead of facing and fighting them or keeps crying about her miserable situation. I really didn't understand, why she had actually two rich, hot boys fighting over her.
Kim Tan was also really hard to watch. It really bothered me how he was just forcing Cha Eun Sang to stay with him and love him, never considering the fact that she might not even like him. He was way too confident about himself regarding her. I’m not saying that Lee Min Ho and Park Shin Hye are bad actors. I just don't like their characters in this drama. Additionally, I never shipped those two. It felt so wrong just watching them. And when Choi Young Do showed his feelings for Cha Eun Sang, I really wanted them to end up together. This relationship would’ve been so much more interesting. Although Choi Young Do is the ‘bad boy’ and he behaves like an ass a lot, you could actually see that he was changing for Eun Sang, because he cared for her and I hated how Kim Tan was always trying to pick up a fight with him. Ugh, the second lead syndrome was real.

As you can see, Choi Young Do was the character who made this show really interesting for me. Although he was supposed to be the bad guy, I loved him way more than Kim Tan. His character was just a lot more interesting compared to his rival. And can we all just appreciate his bromance with Jo Myung Soo 😍

Obviously, I have a lot of criticism regarding this drama, but I still binged-watched it and actually enjoyed it most of the time. Why is that so? Well, what made this drama worth watching, besides Choi Young Do, was the supporting cast. I especially loved:
Jo Myung Soo

and Lee Bo Na and Yoon Chan Yeong

They made this drama so enjoyable and cute, I just had to give this characters some extra credit. If you’re looking for a reason to watch The Heirs: Choi Young Do, Lee Bo Na, Yoon Chan Yeung and Jo Myung Soo are the best and most convincing reasons I can give you. They’ll make you laugh a lot and because of them, I’ll definitely watch this drama again.
Rating:
Overall: 7/10
Story: 6/10
Actor Performance: 8/10
Couple Chemistry: 5/10
Music: 8/10
