i. he ain't heavy, he's my brother, the hollies

So on we go His welfare is my concern No burden is he to bear We'll get there For I know He would not encumber me He ain't heavy, he's my brother

i had to start with the twins because, well, vax is so utterly important to vex. no matter what they face or where their paths take them, vex is content to have her brother by her side. no matter what burdens he may have to carry, she'll always lend her support. she'll always care for him, and that's never a burden because her twin is everything to her.

ii. little brother, ella vos

Stay close, little brother I know your true colors When the world don't listen, you can call my name Stay close, little brother Stay close

this is pretty self-explanatory, still on the topic of vax. the twins know each other like no one else, and they learned from a young age to only rely on one another — that the only ones they could trust to have their backs were each other. it's a recurring theme for them to not want the world to get between them or to end up separated; stay close, little brother just feels extra fitting in that sense.

iii. diamonds are a girl's best friend, marilyn monroe

listen... vex's relationship with money is definitely an important trait of her character and out of all the songs about it i could've picked, i just think this one is the one that fits the best. with her, it's not about money just for the sake of greed, i feel. there's a practical element to it too; money pays the bills, it provides you comfort. other things can be wonderful and meaningful but at the end of the day you still need money and the support it gives.

iv. big man, little dignity, paramore

I memorized all your lines I can't look away, you're like a movie that I love to hate I fantasize your demise I should look away because I know you're never gonna change I keep thinkin' this time, the end'll be different But it isn't I keep thinkin' (Keep thinkin') the end is gonna be different But you keep on winning

if her relationship with her brother is a fundamental (positive) part of her character, her relationship with her father is just as important (negative). syldor is, quite frankly, emotionally abusive, and for a long time vex is stuck on a cycle of resenting her father and wanting nothing to do with him while still wanting to prove herself and have his recognition.

this song is about powerful men being shitty and getting away with it, which fits, but i think the "i should look away because i know you're never gonna change / i keep thinking this time, the end'll be different but it isn't" could just relate to vex on a personal level in the sense of this bond she can't quite cut off entirely because deep down, no matter how terrible her father might be, she still hopes it'll be different. it never is.

v. kingdom come, the civil wars

Run, run, run and hide Somewhere no one else can find Tall trees bend and lean, pointing where to go Where you will still be all alone

facing prejudice and mistreatment from those around her since she was a child, vex sought solace in the woods. she was at peace among the trees and nature, where she had to deal with no one's judgment — but it was also isolating, keeping a distance from everyone. it was running and hiding from the things that hurt her when dealing with people. there's solace to be found in the peace of the woods; there is also loneliness.

vi. the archer, taylor swift

I've been the archer, I've been the prey Who could ever leave me, darling But who could stay?

the chorus of the song plays with the idea of presenting yourself as someone no one would want to leave, while contrasting it with no one being able to stay. i feel it relates to vex and how she feels in how she presents herself vs her real feelings. vex is very charming and composed, she seems very confident and bold and ready to face anything while breaking hearts left and right; but when it comes to how she really feels, a lot of that is just a front, an armor in a way. who could stay, knowing how she really is?

there are other lines throughout the song that feel very fitting. "'cause cruelty wins in the movies" echos her "there is always a cost or a cruelty", "i jump from the train, i ride off alone" relates particularly to pre vox machina when she and vax would leave any complicated situation and just cut their losses, "all the king's horses, all the king's men / couldn't put me together again" is an easy parallel to the broken pieces she carries inside and how they're not easy to mend.

vii. dog days are over, florence + the machine

Happiness hit her like a train on a track Coming towards her, stuck still, no turning back She hid around corners and she hid under beds She killed it with kisses and from it she fled

given her past, i believe vex wouldn't have an easy time just... accepting happiness. even if she takes somewhat quickly to keyleth and the others, starved for kindness as she is, the comfort of her found family would also be frightening. it's always been just her and vax. to have all that change, even if positive, would make her want to run.

not that i think she would actually try; but there's a reason she points out to vax they could leave. they don't, but the thought occurs to her because these bonds, this sense of familiarity, the joy that comes with it... they're foreign, and they're frightening, at least at first. she gets over it — i just think it's part of the journey.

viii. rather be, clean bandit

We're a thousand miles from comfort We have traveled land and sea But as long as you are with me There's no place I'd rather be

this one is usually read as a love song, but i'd apply it more to the group as a whole. hesitant as she might have been at first, they become her family and her home, more than any place she's ever lived in. the journey isn't always easy and it isn't always comfortable and they wander to many places, but the "as long as you are with me / there's no place i'd rather be" just feels like it applies to her little found family generally speaking. vox machina means a lot to her, each and all of them; it may not always seem like it with how she'll bicker with scanlan or be a little harsh with keyleth but despite her edges vex loves them all wholeheartedly.

Wanda maximoff x reader

A/n: This is set after age of Ultron but your character saves Pietro with your powers. Just in case you haven't seen Moulin Rouge there are spoilers in here, unless you're not planning to watch it, in that case keep reading.

Warnings: Swearing not much else

It's movie night at the Avengers tower and of course the boys want a horror movie. "Come on Y/n/n, just watch a horror movie" Sam said picking up the remote "I'm gonna have nightmares, I don't want to watch one" I said curling into Wanda's side "We'll turn on whatever you want to watch after" Sam said "So you'll all sit and watch Moulin Rouge with me, and not complain" I said sitting up "Yeah, fine we'll watch Moulin Rouge and not complain" Bucky said "Now turn on a horror movie" he said to Sam.

They ended up choosing 'Paranormal activity: Next of Kin' (A/n: don't judge me this was a scary movie) we all settled down and started watching. I kept hiding in Wanda's side or behind the blanket "Why is it growling?!?!" I said shoving the blanket in front of my face "Oh my god, what's down there" I said "Pull her up!" Sam yelled at the TV. "They can't hear you" Nat said rolling her eyes "Oh my god, get out of there" I said "the scariest part of this movie is Norman, is that even his name?" Bucky said laughing

"No his name is like Jacob or something I forgot, AHH, OH MY GOD!" I said jumping and shoving my face into Wanda's side "Y/n/n, this is not even scary" she said turning to me "LOOK THE THING IS COMING OUT OF THE CAVE!" Peter shouted "OH MY GOD THAT THING IS TERRIFYING!" I said "WHYS IT LOOK LIKE IT CAME STRAIGHT OUT OF THE VR FOREST GAME!!" Peter said "OH MY GOD YOU'RE RIGHT!" I said shoving my blanket into my face "Your being dramatic" Mj said from her place next to peter and Ned "Hey!, no more screaming!" Nat shouted "Sorry Nat" I said

"Whatever just be quiet" Nat said sitting back "OH SHIT" Nat said jumping back "SEE!" I said "HE JUST KILLED HIM" Nat said hiding under her blanket "WHY'D WE PICK THIS" Ned said pulling his blanket over his face "Everyone calm down it's just a movie" Bucky said "YEAH RIGHT BUCKY" Sam said hiding under the blanket and curling closer to Bucky. "Yeah yeah, whatever, the movies almost over" Bucky said pulling Sam closer to him. "See it's done now" Bucky said as the credits appeared on screen "Can we turn Moulin Rouge on now" I said grabbing the remote from the table.

Then Steve, Tony, Pepper, Bruce, and Pietro walked into the room. "What are we watching?" Pepper said pulling Tony over to the love-seat as Pietro went and grabbed more popcorn and the rest of the group found their seats. "Since they refuse to watch more horror movies we're watching Moulin Rouge" Bucky said rolling his eyes "Hey! you said you wouldn't complain" I yelled at Bucky. "Alright i'm out" Tony said trying to stand up "Nope" Pepper said pulling him back next to her. "Yeah are you too good for a romance movie stark?" Pietro said sitting down next to Nat as she reaches up to take his popcorn.

"Maybe I just don't want to watch it Maximoff" Tony said moving closer to Pepper "He doesn't want to watch it because he'll cry we've already seen it three times" Pepper said laughing "Yeah, yeah whatever, just turn it on" Tony said taking the popcorn from Steve. I turned it on and then moved closer to Wanda. We all sang along to the songs before eventually getting to "Sparkling Diamonds", I stood up next to the couch "The french are glad to die for love" I sang along with her before Pepper stood up "A kiss on the hand may be quite continental, but diamonds are a girls best friend" Pepper sang as Tony grabbed her hand and kissed it.

Then Wanda stood up "A kiss may be grand but it won't pay the rental on your humble flats or help you feed your, *rawr* pussy cat" Wanda sang grabbing my hand and spinning me around. "Men grow cold as girls grow old and we all lose our charms in the end" Sam sang pulling Bucky up "But square cut or pear shaped these rocks don't lose their shape" Bucky sang as Sam twirled him around. All of us sang and danced until the song ended and then we all settled back into out seats. We all stayed seated till "Your song" came on and everyone decided that we needed to sing it dramatically to each other. Everyone turned to their significant other and started singing.

"My gift is my song, and this one's for you" Tony started leaning closer to Pepper "And you can tell everybody that this is your song, it may be quite simple but now that's it's done, I hope you don't mind, I hope you don't mind that I put down in word's, how wonderful life is now that you're in the world" Wanda sang pulling me closer to her. Then the beat started to pick up "But the sun's been kind while I wrote this song, It's for people like you that keep it turned on" Peter said grabbing Mj's hand "So excuse me forgetting, but these things I do, you see I've forgotten if their green or their blue" Bucky sang to Sam "And well the thing is what I really mean, yours are the sweetest eyes I've ever seen" Sam sang back.

That went on the entire song and for all the rest of the songs before we reached about thirty minutes to the end. "Is she really gonna go with him?" Steve asked turning to look at the rest of the group "Steve, just watch the movie, no more questions" Bruce said looking at him before turning back to the movie "Shhhhh, this is the best song in the entire movie" Nat said as "El Tango De Roxanne" turned on. Nat started to dramatically sing his part before I started to dramatically sing Christian's part to Wanda. Then Wanda started to speak the French part and I swear I almost died. The rest of the song went on with Nat and I dramatically singing before we all calmed down and kept watching.

"Oh my, what's he doing to her?" Steve asked "Steve, why do I have to keep telling you to just watch the movie?" Bruce said turning to him "What I can't be concerned now?" Steve said turning to face Bruce "Steve, just watch the movie" Bruce said turning back to it. Steve finally stopped talking before the hit man scene where everyone started talking. "Is she about to die?" Mj said "NO,THEY WOULDN'T KILL HER WOULD THEY?" Steve said "OMG IS SHE REALLY GONNA DIE" Ned said as the hit man got closer to her. I curled into Wanda's side not wanting to watch her death. I turned back to the TV right as she died and then joined Tony and the others in crying.

"WHY WOULD THEY KILL HER" Ned shouted at the TV. "I don't know because they think it's funny or something" I said through the tears. "I'm never watching this movie again" Tony said grabbing the tissues "Honey, we both know that's a lie" Pepper said taking the tissues from him. "Time for bed, let's go, we'll all come out tomorrow before breakfast to clean the mess" Pepper said pulling Tony up and off the couch. "Let's go love" Wanda said pulling me up and down the hall "I'm just gonna clean up the mess right now" I could hear Peter say before we reached our bedroom. We changed and then got in bed "Goodnight love" Wanda said pulling me closer "Goodnight" I said slowly falling asleep.

Jiroki's 2021 Memorial Show - Based off of video A female stands at the back corner of the stage, facing towards the side as she’s poised against a pillar. She wears a shimmering mermaid style black dress that touches the ground, accenting her curves and figure quite well. Black satin gloves line her hands and go all the way up her arm, twinkling bracelets and rings decorating her. The music begins to drum up, and Jiroki wastes no time in starting her song. “The Elves are glad to... die for love.” Her head turns to the side, now glancing at the audience. “They delight in fighting...” She inhales a breath. “...Duels.” Jiroki tilts her head, stroking some of her sea green hair in front of her shoulders as she daydreams about someone. “But I prefer a man who lives, and gives…” Pushing herself off the pillar lightly she stands. “Expensive….” Her hands stretch out before her in acceptance, a grin growing on her lips as a luxurious feather boa falls from the ceiling, white unlike her dress but covered in shimmering glitter like the diamonds she wore. “Jewels.~” Jiroki drapes the feather boa around her neck, starting to saunter forward center stage as she sings. “A kiss on the hand may be, quite continental. But diamonds are a girl’s best friend.~” Heels click against the floor as she steps on down to the audience floor, gaze set on %t as she wanders towards them. “A kiss may be grand. But it won't pay the rental on your humble flat!" Grabbing hold of one end of her feather boa she lightly tickles the side of %t’s face. “Or help you at the automat!” Jiroki moves back a little to start to lean against whoever is behind her, resting against %t, and she lets out a weary sigh as she laments. “Men grow cold, as girls grow old. And we all lose our charms in the end!” Then she straightens up, sauntering back to center stage as she keeps singing. “But square-cut, or pear-shaped, these rocks don’t lose their SHAPE!” Her voice rings out, spinning back around as the bass instruments blare in the song. “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend!”

Suddenly, a suitor hurries up on stage, Orinious dressed in a black tuxedo suit. He runs in Jiroki’s directions and then slides on his knees towards her, dazzling and sparkling necklaces dangling on his hands. He holds them up towards Jiroki in offering, and the Kaldorei identifies them. “... Trixany’s!” Another suitor runs up, Caythaes hurrying to Jiroki as well. In their arms they carry folded up silk, bedazzled with gems that sparkle like the starry sky, and they slide forward on their feet and stop just beside her. Jiroki looks to examine their gift as well. “... Sana’dal!” Even more suitors run up! Celedyn and Talthorn each carry an assortment of gems and jewelry from various brand name shops, all intent on gifting them to Jiroki. She turns and glances at each one, able to tell the difference between every one as she points them out. “Ocean’s Lust! Snake’s Skin! Talk to me Ranek Vilmas, tell me all about it!”

The brass instruments blare once more into song. Jiroki quickly moves to get off stage with the help of her suitors. One takes her hand and spins her out, and another grabs her by the waist and picks her up, setting her down further away. They make sure she gets off stage easily and she quickly zips off, looking for a crowd of people to socialize with.

Jiroki nestles herself near a little gathering, glancing at them all with a grin as she continues her song. “There may come a time when a- lass needs a lawyer.” The Kaldorei gives a bit of a sheepish grin at that, with a small shrug from a single shoulder. “But diamonds are a girl’s best friend.” Jiroki glances to the other side of her to give more of her advice to those around her. “There may come a time when a- hard boiled employer thinks you’re aawwfuul niiiice.~” Her voice rings out, though then immediately her face becomes stoic to emphasis her next point. “But get that ice, or else no dice.” A cutting motion across her neck, then she strides away.

Jiroki spots Dartan and makes her way towards him, a wide smile spread on her lips as she slides on up beside him, a hand on his far shoulder from her while her other hand begins to walk two fingers up his arm. “He’s your guy, when stocks are high.~” She coos at him. “But beware when they start to descend!” Once her walking fingers reach the top of his shoulders her hand moves away to make a thumbs down at ‘descend’, then pulls away from him.

Jiroki makes her way back towards the stage another time. “It’s then that those louses go back to their spouses!” Turning around, arms extended out with her boa delicately draped around her shoulders. “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend!”

One more suitor comes out, Sharpen Jadescythe carrying the ace of all aces. In his hands he holds an extravagant necklace made out of what looks like hundreds of diamonds, glittering like crazy from the stage lighting. Holding it wide he steps up behind Jiroki, who so graciously bends a little at the knees with a wide smile, and the man drapes the necklace around her lovely neck. It hangs perfectly along her skin, just what she needed to compliment her neckline. “I’ve heard of affairs that are strictly platonic.” Jiroki sings once the necklace is clasped on, moving to Sharpen’s side. “But diamonds are a girl’s best friend.” Reaching up she lightly pinches the cheek of the person who just gifted her, doting on him, then her hands run down his arm. “And I think affairs that you must keep liaisonic! Are better bets…” She leans in and plants a quick peck on his cheek, then lightly pats the same cheek with her hand in rhythm with her words, acting cheeky. “If little pets get big baguettes!”

Jiroki laments once more, stepping forward a bit and placing the back of her hand on her forehead. “Time rolls on, and youth is gone. And you can’t straighten up, when you bend!” Jiroki goes in to make a vaguely silly motion of bending forward, though briefly is stuck as she winces. Sharpen breaks character for a moment to help straighten her up; the woman is still in recovery! But he quickly ushers her forward to keep singing. “But stiff back, or stiff knees, you stand straight at-” Her hands raise up to make a ‘silence’ motion with her fists, the music cutting out entirely into quiet. She lets it hang for a moment before only her voice chimes in. “Triiixany’s.~”

A single drum beat is heard as suddenly in the air there’s a sensation of magic amplifying, building up until it literally bursts with the music. “DIAMONDS!!” The room is suddenly BRIGHT as hundreds of crystalized objects are hovering in the air, sparkling like gemstones. Not only that, Jiroki’s dress is now embedded with diamonds, starting around the hem of her dress and then it goes up in spirals around her body. “Diiaaamooonds!” Her satin black sleeves also look like they have been dosed with diamonds, and even her face and hair is now highlighted with glittery makeup to match the room. “I~ don’t mean rhinestones! But DIAMONDS!!” Her hands spread out and the floating crystals all twinkle in time, so close that people could touch them. “Are~ a girl’s best-” Her singing pauses for a moment, the music starting to draw to its end. “Best friend!~ <3” The brass instruments begin to blare for a final time, and all the suitors that showed up before run up to her, all carrying their gems and jewels in hand as they surround her in adoration. And as the final notes of the instruments ring out Jiroki stands there, relishing in all the gifts presented to her.
