LOTUS STEP BOOK 3 CHAPTER 5 PT 2 EXCERPT: ZHE YAN AND BAI ZHEN BEING DOMESTIC A F

When High God Bai Zhen finished dealing with the governing of the Southeast Wilderness and returned to the Ten Miles of Peach Forest from Qingqiu, High God Zhe Yan told him about what happened when Lian Song had brought Zuti to the Peach Forest. High God Bai Zhen sat cross-legged and became so invested in the story that he forgot to lift his chopsticks from his bowl and pushed the plates away - amazed: "So it was because of Zuti that the security on Yeqianjue Palace suddenly tightened?"

High God Zhe Yan pushed the plate he had displaced back: "I know you're surprised, but don't use it as an excuse to push this plate of spinach to me." He picked up some spinach with his chopsticks and piled it into High God Bai Zhen's bowl, earnestly advising him, "You should eat more spinach. It's good for the circulation and the eyes," And urged him, "Go on."

High God Bai Zhen had a bite of the spinach with great difficulty, and swallowed it with a sip of tea and an expression that indicated that his will was strong though his body was battered: "But Qing Jiang likely hasn't realized it was Zuti that trespassed on Qianjuejing." When he recovered, he continued the topic, "The day after, when we bid him farewell, he did ask Yehua why his third uncle wasn't there. That kid Yehua drank all night with me and Dage, but he had some smarts about him, and said that his third uncle had a hangover headache and thought it was inconvenient to stay and left early morning to return to Jiuchong heaven. The Celestial Clan's third prince Lian Song has never been one to be bound by etiquette and the reputation of his carefree nature has spread across the eight wildernesses, so Qing Jiang wasn't suspicious."

High God Bai Zhen, though he was a high god and he was a hundred something thousand years old, had a playful heart, and loved to hear of bizarre occurrences. After detailing what had happened in Qianjuejing, he looked at High God Zhe Yan curiously: "You just said that Lian Song had only taken a day or two to gain little Zuti's trust, and in the half month following, whether it was hiking into the mountain or taking a boat out into the lake, Zuti let him accompany her?" After Zhe Yan nodded, High God Bai Zhen spoke with admiration, "It only took two days for him to build such a good relationship with Zuti - Tianjun's third son is very skilled!"

High God Zhe Yan disliked hearing High God Bai Zhen compliment others, and sighed: "Little Zuti is naïve and trusting. She's not vigilant, and she'll be close to whoever's willing to play with her. It's easiest of all to fool her. It's just that I'm unwilling to go wild with a child like her, but if I were to inconvenience myself, do you believe that she would also be close with me?"

High God Bai Zhen set down his chopsticks, thought steadily for a moment and replied carefully: "I might not believe it." Seeing Zhe Yan's expression turn cool, High God Bai Zhen immediately changed his mind with zero shame: "I...might believe it a little bit?"

But High God Zhe Yan's expression still did not change for the better. High God Bai Zhen dug out the spinach that he had pushed to the side of the bowl and buried with rice and took a bite or two in an attempt to appease High God Zhe Yan: "Alright, I was just joking around with you just now." He tried for a sincere smile.

High God Zhe Yan didn't even want to talk to him and turned his head to Bi Fang who was subtly kneeling to the side, waiting on them. "That kid Lian San's been freeloading at my Peach Forest with Zuti for half a month. When are they planning to leave?"

The Bird Bi Fang said, very politely: "The Third Prince is careful and says he wants to observe for another two days to make sure nothing will happen to Zuti before they bid their farewells."

High God Zhe Yan was cross: "That little light god is always catching fish and hunting birds. She's even more spirited than me - what could happen to her? Tell them to leave quickly, they've become an eyesore."

The Bird Bi Fang politely agreed to carry out the order.

High God Bai Zhen had his head down as he once again buried the spinach underneath his rice with his chopsticks, mumbling: "You don't have to be so angry with him just because I complimented the third prince once..."

High God Zhe Yan was indignant: "A child couldn't ripple my sea of jealousy!"

High God Bai Zhen laughed out loud, and though he managed to stop before High God Zhe Yan's gaze shot like knives toward him, his eyes retained the mirth: "Oh, your sea of jealousy was rippled." He said with a leisurely tone.

High God Zhe Yan blinked, and after half a moment, shook his head and laughed, looking at High God Bai Zhen with exasperation: "Eat your food. You missed lunch because you were on the road, and now you're distracted while making up this meal. You have to be watched over while you eat - are you still a child?"

Seeing the two masters once again speaking affectionately, the honest Bird Bi Fang was very confused: was there still a need to get rid of the third prince and the little light god who'd freeloaded at the Peach Forest for half a month doing nothing? He wanted to ask High God Zhe Yan again, but the two high gods at the dining table were sat close together, and the way they spoke to each other with low voices was full of the air of long-lasting peace and happiness, not an atmosphere during which he could interrupt. So the honest but very sensitive Bird Bi Fang quietly left. When he was out of the room about five steps, he remembered that the Peach Forest had guests right now, and so walked back carefully and considerately closed the door for the two high gods.

The bird Bi Fang was alone in conflict for a whole afternoon, and waited till the sun set in the western mountain. When he was about to ask High God Zhe Yan again, His Third Highness had surprisingly taken the little light god to bid farewell themselves. Apparently, there was a letter delivered from Yuanji Palace that something had happened in Heaven that was urgently awaiting His Third Highness to attend to.

High God Bai Zhen was resting in his room. High God Zhe Yan came out alone to send off the guests and repressed his happiness at seeing them off.

Components of UX in the real world

To understand this better, let’s look at the example of a project that we delivered recently — the modernization of a learning management system (LMS) — and how our work translated into measurably better UX metrics.

We’ll discuss Usability alone in Part 2 of this blog, to contrast it against the rest of the components of UX.

1. Functionality

Functionality refers to whether or not the application is useful to its users.

In the LMS modernization project we are referring to as an example, a gap analysis was performed between the client’s legacy system and the business requirements to be met by the modernized application.

This made it possible to develop specific functionalities that end users would require, making the app more useful.

3. Findability

Referring to the ease of navigation on the application to find what the end user is looking for, Findability was a key consideration in this project.

Very limited sub menus were used in the application, making for a simple navigation, making it easy for a user to locate and access the available functionalities. This enabled a DIY approach to operations, without the need for users to constantly seek support.

4. Credibility

The trust that an end user has in an application tends to depend on easy access to support, current or recently updated content, and reliable, bug-free operation.

This was addressed through an easy to reach helpdesk, simplified LMS admin operations for faster and easier content management and updates, a Platform as a Service approach that ensured extensive testing as part of any new development, and upgraded infrastructure to ensure reliably high performance.

5. Value

The value that an end user derives and perceives from an application plays a major role in customer satisfaction.

With easy navigation and access to features, coupled with reliability and strong performance, not to mention an upgraded feature set, the modernized application is able to deliver value that is easy to understand and acknowledge by the end user.

6. Accessibility & Responsive Design

Ease of access via different devices is an important factor in determining the user experience of an application.

The modernized LMS that was developed for our client was tested extensively across both real and simulated device environments, to ensure a seamless experience across screen sizes and operating systems.

7. Desirability

What sets one digital experience apart from others is often the right combination of UX factors working together to create a seamless experience that delivers customer delight.

In this project, this was achieved through our attention to solving for the entire hierarchy of user needs, and helped make the product functional, reliable, usable, and also pleasurable to use, aided by its coherent visual design.

Some backstory: I'm dark skinned and have type 4 hair, so I'm always having my hair touched and I was in spanish class when I saw "sucio ne*ro" was written on my desk, and I didn't know what it meant until now after google translate. I ended up crying for hours, and I came back to your blog for comfort. I enjoy seeing your way of pretending to be Shu and you as a person from what we see, as we don't REALLY know you irl, but this is enough. Thank you for this blog.

It is a shame how people’s ignorance always ends up damaging others. If they could be idiots alone in their own world, it wouldn’t be as bad...

But do know that what happened to you is a crime, and the person that did it deserves punishment. A severe one.

Rory, there's no way on earth I could possibly describe what you've done for this community. Aside from making it all in the first place, constructing the post-apocalyptic sandbox we all hold so dear, you also pay attention to how it's executed---from basic principles of operation and how we ought to respect each other as players, down to the smallest, weirdest headcanon. It matters to you---which I think is probably the best way to summarize your energy and wisdom, the Rory-ness of it all:

Things matter. People matter. Caring matters.

In a world where we're pretty damn used to moving from one diversion to the next at a moment's notice, you make something that's absolutely set apart by saying, resolutely and passionately, that what we do here really matters.

And you're right, to think that. If you need any further proof that you---Rory---matter, you can look at me writing this damn letter (and swearing every three sentences, sorry). But you in your extremely Ro way, said hey, six years fucking matters, and so do all the people we play with, so let’s get mushy on the main and tell them. And I can tell you to your face you're right and this was a stellar idea because... I do that now. Because of your influence, I'm a better person, one who does actually try and tell people what I think.

You challenge people to care, and to translate their caring into something others can recognize, and reciprocate. You’re never afraid to point out the importance of saying things and leaving a meaningful mark, becoming an active part of our community instead of staying in our own heads (as introverts on the internet are prone to doing).

You're also a hell of a writer, which is inspirational in itself, and I can’t leave that out of it. Your dedication to your characters, to their motivations and struggles, shines through in every post you make, and you don't let fear or insecurity take root or stop you from doing what you love. You know it's not about achieving perfection, but about collaboration and growth. The way we write is an exercise in discipline and embracing the joys of language, it's not meant to be fine art (though a lot of the stuff you come up with off the cuff blurs the line between the two on a regular basis.) It's really very rude how talented you are.

I won't talk too much more about you and me personally because you already know it pretty well, but I will mention that when I offered to help out with tech stuff, you don't even know how impossible being a full mod felt for me, at the time. I'd just come out of some rough experiences and was ready to never do that again. But over the years, you gave me steps that I could take only when I felt comfortable, and let me accept only the responsibility that I thought I could manage (though you always told me you knew I was more than capable of handling it). In a very real way, with your patience and understanding, you gave me back my confidence, and my willingness to be vulnerable. That's something I won't ever forget.

You have my respect and my friendship, always.

And dear lord, if Tumblr has managed not to self-destruct in the next five or ten years, I really hope we're still around doing this shit. No place I'd rather be.

Well, as the kids say, this is my division ; )

I've read all of this so none of it is really new information to me, but I will translate some excerpts for you since we're all content starved around these parts! A lot of these I see are really just passing mentions that don't have much to them, but I do see two excerpts that are a little meatier that I can throw down there for you!

CHAPTER 6.02

She lifts her eyebrow, and the tail of her eye lifted as well - cool and gentle and alluring, but with an edge, "Why now have you gone back on that decision?"

For a long moment there was only th sound of the wind. The yellow-clad one said: "I don't have the heart to."

The white- lad woman laughed as if surprised: "You can't bear it? But what is there not to bear?" She put her hand upon the other's shoulder, fingers sweeping past the yellow clad one's dark hair like chicken feathers. "The most unfeeling one in the world is you. Born from light - you don't know what the seven emotions nor the six desires are, but now you can't bear to see me die?" A hint of merriment appeared between cool brows. "No one in the realms can obtain a reluctance to part from you. I have obtained it and therefore I have no regrets in this life."

The yellow-clad one ignored her teasing, and shook off her hand. "No regrets? And about Mo Yuan?"

The white-clad woman's smile slowly disappeared from her face. After a long time, she said: "He…I never thought whether or not I regret it." She stepped back, and sat down on a stone stool to the side, fingers pressed against her forehead. Expressionless, now she seemed as cool as frost. After a long time, she said: "I can't have regrets, and I dare not to."

Hey! I'm so sorry to say this but besides what's linked in our pinned post and the bits and pieces Admin Ro wants to do, there's no English translation for Lotus Step. It's not even finished publishing yet (we're at vol. 3 of 4 volumes) if you've at all gone through our blog, and Bodhi Fate hasn't even been written yet.

Hopefully you can find asian fantasy novels to fulfill your desire to read similar genre, be it translated works or western published Asian authors.
