Adler’s Projects in Progress aka PiPs!

Well well well. As I have many, many AftG ideas going on, wayyy too many, I thought I'd inspire myself from @stabbyfoxandrew 's WIP Wednesdays and give y'all the draft titles of the fics I would really love to write, in hopes that it spurs on my motivation and creativity. I also just wanna talk about what goes on in my brain. I cannot shut up about these guys. I need people to enable me. Come on, be my hero.

Simply drop one of the titles below in my Ask box and I'll give you a snippet of the work, a summary if I have not written anything yet, the main ideas or ship(s), or anything that I can give away, really. I'm not yet picking a dedicated day for Adler's PiPs, but I might later on, if it helps to keep me accountable? I don't know!

Note that for @dayurno ‘s @daylightficfest, I won't be answering before March 11th, once I'm sure I have claimed my prompts and got my grabby little raccoon hands on the ideas.

Also note that I'm posting this while on a laser-focus + productivity high, which might drop anytime now, thus it might take me time to answer asks. I apologize in advance for the way my brain works.

Adler's PiPs ~ Project: dance 'til you find someone to die for (dtyfstdf)

Premise for newcomers: What if instead of Seth, Riko had tried to get rid of Aaron? The night Seth was supposed to "accidently" die, Ravens found their way to Aaron instead. By pure dumb luck, Kevin answers his call for help and from then on, Kevin and Aaron are thrown together to brace themselves for every deadly trap sent their way. The dangerous game they play isn't just Exy anymore, and their hearts might get caught in the crossfire. >>Here on ao3 or >>here on Tumblr (masterlist of all parts)

Oh dear lord I have not updated since… 2021. I am so sorry. Things in the brain and the body got in the way. But that does not mean I have stopped thinking about Kevin and Aaron and the alternate timeline I have created. I’ve just had to scale down the plot a little bit, for now, as well as my expectations and goals. It became too big for me and that scared me, and discouraged me. So now it’s little bites and little steps! Or what they call “filler episodes” in the industry… We love those, right?

Up next: Shower Scene. Will it be sexy? Uh, yeah, you could say that. Will it be angsty? Oh yeah. That’s the main goal. I’m drawing a lot from personal experience with physical scars and how it affects routine activities such as washing up. I wanted to give a new perspective on scars, different from Neil’s or Andrew’s, and realized that I could expiate some of my demons through Aaron (like one does), who now has scars similar to mine due to every injury he has suffered in the fic until now. I also just love shower scenes in aftg fics. They’re so tense and charged!! There’s Kevin, and there’s Aaron, having an emotional conversation under hot water, only separated by a stall wall. Ugh! The boys have got to get hot and bothered about each other at some point, ya know? Anyhoo, that is the starting point of this new era for the fic. It’s small in the grand scheme of things, it’s full of dialogue (my péché mignon), it’s good therapy (for me, not them) and well that’s the dream for now!

Now, what after that. There are, evidently, unavoidable parts that must happen in order for the story to progress both in its own timeline and according to the canon timeline. There is the infamous New Year’s in NYC / holidays at the Nest thing, where I want to explore how Kevin copes with both Neil and Andrew locked away, and how Aaron helps (or aggravates) him considering how changed their friendship is. Thea also has to make an appearance at some point, both for the sake of this fic and for her own spin-off with Katelyn. And also so I can end things between her and Kevin in a way that I deem respectful and believable enough for both Kevin and her. I have little fillers here and there that mean the world to me, but they all lead to a First Kiss. They gotta get there at some point right? I’m not sure yet which of them will make the first move. I got multiple scenarios for each. There most certainly will be blood involved.

I really want to give you a snippet. I’ve got nothing ready or non-spoilish. But maybe, just maybe, by the time I post the corresponding part, y’all will have forgotten about this? So, um, there:

The idea that Katelyn would upgrade from an emotionally stunted bf to an even more emotionally stunted gf who's also an ex (barely) member of the cult that harrassed your school for a year. NIGHTMARE. I just know every birthday and holiday season they hit Katelyn with the "It was very hard picking your gift because they don't sell better taste in partners".

But honestly. At least Thea's tall.

Adler’s PiPs ~ Project: Kathea 🌺

Kathea Lore 2:

Their 2nd “meeting” (1st being in therapy and vvv ugly) is when Kate and Aaron mutually break up after her return from the psych ward and his return from Thanksgiving (see dtyfstf); although the fic wouldn’t start there, that is the moment that created this spin-off ship/fic/project/AU.

Having heard how much shit the Foxes are going through, Thea flies in to check in on Kevin who has ghosted her (thus breaking her promise again of no-contact but way, way worse).

In a scene reminiscent of Andreil’s first meeting, Kate and Thea literally run into each other when Kate exits Aaron’s dorm so fast she slams door 317 into Thea and falls into her.

Because Kate is crying so hard and because Thea does not want their therapy group to get on her back any more than they already are, Thea puts her Kevin mission on hold and takes Kate back with her (idk where yet… hotel room? Bar? Diner? Cab?) to “support” her therapy mate.

Thea is the more surprised of the two at her decision to take Kate under her wing (u know like a raven).

Kate starts to believe Thea is not as bad/mean as she projects in group therapy.

Thea doesn’t understand why she went out of her way like that, why she acted so out of character, so she proceeds to /gently/ but firmly kick Kate out, call her an Uber, and the next time they see each other, weeks later, in group, Thea is cold and distant.

That's the main scene to be written at the moment, the thing that’ll start me up and show me the golden path of Kathea.

Miscellaneous thoughts:

To me they're like if a nymph (Katelyn) and a goddess (Thea) fell in love.

While it causes no real impact on Kate’s career (cheer + med) to be queer, Thea’s pro Exy career is highly at risk, what with already being an ex-Raven and a Black woman in a mixed sport; it’s important to me that we’re all aware of that; and thus despite both women being each other’s first sapphic/queer relationship, they have widely different backgrounds and stakes at play in committing (or not) to this new love.

Katelyn doesn’t want to see Thea as a threat, for herself, Aaron and the Vixens/Foxes, but sometimes the way Thea handles her past and present is scary, and Kate doesn’t know if Thea is trustworthy with everything (and Riko) going on; those who have read ‘dance ‘til you find someone to die for’ know why trust and betrayal are big issues in the Katheaverse.

However, Thea doesn’t know anything about the vastness of Riko's evils; her main tormentor has always been Tetsuji Moriyama.

Riko acted the way all male Ravens (except Jean and Kevin) have always treated her: with misogyny and bigotry. Riko wasn’t special, not with her, not to her; but she doesn’t realize yet the Ravens were a cult, that it wasn’t normal, that she has repressed some things and that what is hurting her inside is also hurting others, whether fellow ex-Ravens like Jean and Kevin, or outsiders like Kate and Aaron who become collateral damage wave after wave Riko creates.

Of course I’m playing with the age gap between Thea (26-28) and Kate (20-22) because I think it’s very sexy and I’m self-projecting what I wish would happen to me love-wise 💅 I also previously thought about bringing up Thea’s trauma with younger partners (i.e., the whole Kevin grooming shitshow that was made-up by a-hole fans) to lay the issue to rest once and for all, but since some of y’all provoked Nora Sakavic into defending Queen Theodora Muldani and blasting y’all to dust, I don’t think I will! But who knows. It was important to me at one point, I’m just saying. More crumbs for you, eh.

Katelyn Young (Mackenzie) Lore:

Full name: Katelyn Beth Mackenzie Young

Height: 5’4”-5’5” to Thea’s 6’0” 😌

Career aspiration: Neonatology (Addison Montgomery did a lot for her)(and not just career wise *wink wink*)(she hasn’t realized that yet)(Thea is a lot like Addison u know *wink wink*)

Relationship history: before Aaron came along, her first real love, she had 2 boyfriends. Number 1 dared slap her twice before she ended things; Number 2 cheated on her with 4 different girls while they dated. Aaron was the first to treat her well, to heal a bit of her trust issues, to be completely devoted to her. They’re very important to me. I love my boyo Aaron and he deserves recognition for the love he gave Katelyn and fought for.

Kate is an only child from a very strict family; the parent she is closest to is her step-mother.
