Day off | Allison and Five

It was rare for them to get the day off. The general rule was that there was no free time apart from a half an hour gap on a Sunday. Today however Dad had to go out for a bit so they were all left to their own devices. Five decided to take the opportunity to go and speak to Allison. He rarely got to spend time with her and he honestly was missing her. 

He waited until Dad was definitely gone before making his way down the hallway to Allison’s room, knocking before pushing the door open a little. “Hey, you free?”

“Can you give me a hand?” Five asked, glad that the sibling to have found him in this situation was Allison. Yes she’d judge but she’d probably keep it to herself, especially if he asked.

Five tapped the steering wheel a little impatiently. They’d been driving for a good few hours now and while he’d promised he’d give Allison a lift to her next audition he hadn’t expected it to be this far away. 

“You know, when people offer to give someone a lift it’s generally a good idea to give them a warning if it’s going to take most of the day. I didn’t even know we had mountains near us and yet....there are mountains.”

“Here.” Five said, handing Allison the mug of cocoa he’d made for her. He wasn’t very good at comforting people when they were upset, especially when that upset was over relationships. He’d heard a lot about Patrick in the last few weeks and the confirmation that the divorce had gone through seemed to have hit his sister a little harder than expected. 

“I can get you something else if you want it but I remember you liked cocoa.”

Five huffed a little. “I’ve gone weeks without sleep before. You’re not doing this without me.” He protested, knowing that those weeks he’d spent sat in a chair rather than fighting for his and his family’s life. He knew he needed to sleep but he couldn’t. He had to keep going.

Five finished up the story, looking up from the book to see Claire sound asleep in her bed. He couldn’t help but smile. He wasn’t massively sentimental, years of solitude followed by a successful career as a hit man would do that to you, but even he had to admit he had a soft spot for his niece. 

He looked over at Allison sat in the corner of the room and stood, making his way out of the room so they could talk without disturbing her daughter. 

“You’ve got a great kid there.” He said, motioning to the door once it was closed. “Aside from the whole....you know. You’ve done a good job.”
