IT'S TIME TO RANK TALES OF BERSERIA CHARACTERS BASED ON THEIR "BROKEN : WATCH OUT" RATIOS.
I have to document this or I'll die.
1st number indicates how broken the character is (when handled by an amateur who loves to fuck around but cannot remember more than 3 things at a time) on a scale of 1 (you have to play the game to win) to 5 (90% of the potential gameplay is unnecessary for winning. on chaos mode).
2nd number indicates how much you have to Watch Out when playing as the character, again from 1 (you'll be fine probably) to 5 (switch to velvet the second things start going south or Die).
ranked in order of total numerical score because I LOVE to jevil-do-anything. there is 1 tie; please consider it broken by "more manic gameplay" winning over "inherently more methodical".
ready GO!!!
"broken" is higher: character i switch to when i just want to get it over with.
"watch out" is higher: more fun on account of the risk but if the other number is too low i still don't feel like it most of the time.
scores match: simulates what i think it must be like to play fighting games.
there are gifs of mystic artes because even i didnt want to read 6 paragraphs in a row without landmarks.
Tumblr media
6- LAPHICET: his break soul is defensive & i can't figure out how to do combos w/ him that actually make casting faster. 0:3. 1 star. do it yourself, babyboy; i cannot help you. you'll help me.
Tumblr media
5- ROKUROU: youd think he would be more broken than this but the timing on his break soul counter-hit thingy is surprisingly fussy and it's hard to see when something's about to hit you when there are 6 suits of armor onscreen all flailing their empty limbs around at once. buttonmash city. soul waster supreme. easier to combo with but his focus must be low or something bc i get stunlocked the most as him by far. hard to play w/ finesse. 1:4 "don't get hit."
Tumblr media
4- ELEANOR: swinging her spear like a baseball bat flinging a guy into the air and then leaping up into the air to smack the guy around while things continue happening underneath me is a lot of fun to let me keep having as often as i can use any of her dozen-hit-doing iron-stance-having artes to grab souls with and consequently her break gauge fills really fast too. would be higher on this list if i could remember which direction shes gonna step/slide/jump/fly like a bullet out of a gun when i hit any given button. the unpredictable nature of this keeps my on my toes too hard for me to ever really win with her on purpose. 3:3 & also why does she run so slow???
Tumblr media
3- VELVET: ol' reliable. her break soul is aptly named because if the entire battle system hadnt been built around it like an SCP containment procedure this game would be unplayable. as long as you have 3 souls you can tank any hit you want while you rip an enemy's blood right out of its veins and if the tailor-made-for-that-exact-enemy attack she does at the end of the combo doesnt get you back a soul, your options are limitless - do a weak point combo or guard real good or do 2 switch blasts in a row or hit em with a mystic arte or failing all that just run in circles until one of your teammates dies and their souls fly out of their pockets. free for the taking. DEVOUR. i have only had to Watch Out as velvet like 5 times in 120 hours & two of them were because the enemy attack lasted for 500 years so when i came out of therion mode with 1hp it was still happening on top of me. 5:1.
Tumblr media
2- EIZEN: now we are fucking getting somewhere. the second you knock an enemy down you get 2 free hits that do GOOD damage & hurl you several feet in the "behind the other guy" direction, and give you like most of a break gauge level, but First you have to Knock Them Down with a guy who gets stunned like he's punching HIMSELF 1 out of every dozen hits & has really cool attacks i wanna look at that have weirdly long windups. i tried playing as eizen to fight phoenix on chaos mode and it did NOT go well but on the other hand it went a LOT worse as every other character so man i just do not know anymore. special bonus points for having the most contentious "hard to do long combos : really cool tier-2 mystic arte" ratio, too. 3:5 i'm not kidding you really gotta watch out eizen dies A LOT
Tumblr media
1- MAGILOU: as long as you can LOOK, A SHOOTING STAR!, you have a chance of surviving but the size of that chance vacillates wildly from moment to moment LET ALONE fight scenario to fight scenario. her combat is so simple in theory; spell absorber Just Works and spams free attacks for you that practically blot out the goddamn sun, her little meteor attack is nigh instant comes down exactly where you expect it to in front of her and stuns/grabs souls like there's no tomorrow. AND YET. i cant get used to like any of her other attacks for fear of getting hit while winding up and/or launching myself halfway across the battlefield directly into a giant bird's big stupid laser beam, doing combos to lower casting time on her artes is just as much of an issue as it is with laphicet, and in the not-so-rare circumstance that she cant stagger whatever she's hurling space rocks at she crumples like a paper bag. love watching her do her futile little gay little run away from danger in the world's biggest 2 hats, and then die. queen. 5:5 !!!

deltarune chapter 1, but the kris is being controlled by a speedrunner.
(for the record, i will be talking about pacifist/all recruits% because i think the interactions are funnier that way)
imagine being kris. peacefully (well, maybe not) minding their own life, being a normal child who is not possessed. before they know it, they are taken over by a strange force, but it doesn’t hold malice. it instead vibrates at a speed of 200 bpm, instantly launching them out of bed, and before kris can even register what is going on, their body is already speedwalking out the door at top speeds.
toriel speaks to kris before they get on the car but her words fly by so fast that kris has no idea what she said. once they reach school, everybody’s speech becomes a blur, with words jumbling up with others and going by so damn quick that kris is only vaguely aware that there’s some sort of a group project going on. the soul leads them to noelle. she speaks fast as well. there are two options on the screen, but the choosing goes by so fast kris doesn’t know what it chose.
by the time kris reaches the dark world, they wake up in a completely new environment and panics in confusion, but the soul simply makes their body sprint forward on the path with such high confidence it’s almost scary. what is happening. where am i. where did susie go. why do i have new clothes when did this happen why am i running from these pellets flying through the sky
kris expects everything to get more clear once their adventure continues on, especially when this hooded figure offers to explain a legend. however, the soul forces them to say they already know it, and even when lancer begins to explain it, the dialogue goes by so fast they end up even more confused than they were before. the soul continues to propel forward, battling and acting on monsters as if it’s already done it a thousand times before. kris stops questioning it. it’s no use to wonder anymore.
once they are thrown into the cell, kris hears the soul say they must perpetuate the cycle no matter the cost of time, and… eats the moss. kris isn’t even mad at the fact that they just ate moss straight off the floor. they’re more concerned for the mental well-being of this strange spirit that possessed them now.
then everything changes when they all reach the castle, and the soul goes for the elevator to this strange basement. a fight starts, and the party gets their ass kicked. the soul tries again, this time buying more items and even discarding the manuel (much to this strange little green-clothed boy’s dismay) to fit more items into the inventory.
they fight the weird clown three more times unsuccessfully. kris can hear the soul muttering something about trying one more time, and when they lose again, kris hears crying and the sound of wheels rolling away on a hard floor. while the player continues to cry, kris stands silent before the jail door, wondering what’s about to happen next. the soul stops crying and returns back to control, simply leaving the door and back up the stairs. nobody questions it.
the rest of the journey speeds along and ends in a crowd of various enemies that the soul purposely avoided “returning their kindness” and ejecting the king from attacking, ending the battle even though the party has done practically nothing.
they return to the light world. and the soul forces them to speed through the entire town only to enter their dad’s flower shop just to place an egg into the fridge. they return home and head to bed instantly, wishing that this was all just a bad dream and the next day would return to normal. kris finds out they can temporarily remove the soul to at least treat themself to toriel’s pie for today’s troubles— the only break they’ve had all day. hopefully it’ll return to normal after some airing out.
but to kris’s horror, when they wake up the next day, their soul beats rapidly in preparation to shoot out of bed like a cannonball again and repeat the process.
and the nightmare of the speedrunner continues.

Back when Chapter 1 of Deltarune came out, I made a few theories that relied on a a guess that the "Angel's Heaven" that the Delta Warriors were prophecized to banish is A. an enemy associated with Light B. essentially the thing responsible for removing Choices and Freedom from this world
I assumed all of this because, well, Heaven and Light are associated with each other - and in stories where they aren’t necessarily inherently Good they are both usually associated with Order\Lawfulness instead. A Light entity that removes people's free will while giving them a relatively safe world would make sense for a villainous ‘Angel’ in most stories.
Plus a few other small details: Toriel seems to be a very devout follower of the Angel, and she’d be into “Safety > Free-Will” as a religious philosophy, Jevil is a devil-like entity of chaos and freedom, and he even mentions Hell in reference to the Knight (who seems to be alinged with the Dark since they’re creating Dark Fountains all over the place)...
But, although we didn't really get much details about "the Angel" or "Heaven" in this Chapter, there are some details that we did find out that make we wonder if I should question these assumptions:
For once, there’s some talk about how the Dark Worlds are like ‘paradise’ for the Lightners. And while the words “paradise” and “heaven” aren’t exactly the same - they are used to mean similar things. (”Paradise” comes from an Old Iranian word meaning “walled garden” and originally refered to the Garden of Eden).
But on the other hand we also learned of the Roaring, which seems to be a totally separate Dark-Related Threat. Jevil alludes to it as “Hell’s Roar”, which obviously would put it as a contrast to ‘Heaven’
Tumblr media
So I think the possibility of the Angel’s Heaven being a Light-alinged threat, possibly a counterpart to the Roaring that happens due to an overabundance of Light over Dark... well, it’s not a guarantee, but it still seems likely.
But the thing I really wonder about is my assumption that the Angel’s Heaven would be on the side of keeping choices and consequences away from everyone, namely due to a few lines from our good [[Hyperlink Blocked]] Spamton G. Spamton
During Spamton NEO's rumbling in his Regular Route Boss Battle, he mentions "Heaven" a few times. And he does seem to put it as contrast to "the Dark".... but the REALLY interesting thing
Is how Spamton NEO seems to equate 'Heaven' with 'Freedom'
Tumblr media
For Spamton, the “Dark” is the thing contraining him and trapping him and being a [[Big Shot]] means being able to "see past the Dark" and "look into Heaven" which means.... some sort of Freedom
It seemed weird to me at first, but I guess it does make a certain amount of sense. Dark seems to be the element of Dreams - and while Dreams are chaotic and wild and free and anything can happen in them.... nothing you do in a Dream matters. No choice you make in a Dream matters. So it could be an Element that takes Real Choice away from the world.
And the Angel and Heaven as a symbol of freedom? I should have seen it coming. YEAH in most stories an antagonistic Angel will be the one taking away the freedom of others but...  The Delta Rune Angel was ALREADY a symbol of Freedom.
Tumblr media
And maybe the same applies here, maybe instead of the Angel coming to free the trapped Kingdom of Monsters - here the Angel is here to free the entire world from their inability to make choices that truely matter?
Of course, none of that means the Angel has to be Good Actually. After all, in the best case scanario the Angel was a traumatized 8-years-old who ‘freed’ the Underground by absorving everyone into his body and tried to trap the universe in a timeloop because of his grief until he learned the error of his ways and actually gave the people their unironic actual freedom
And in the worst case scanario it was a kid killing everyone and everything in the Underground.
The same applies here, while “Heaven” is only really mentioned in the Regular Route (if you fight Spamton NEO), the word “Angel” is only mentioned in the WEIRD ROUTE
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Angel’s Heaven could be a force of Freedom, but it could be a very destructive kinda freedom. Perhaps intent on freeing people from the World Without Choice by just burning it all to the ground. Or maybe they’re just willing to do Anything that might have a Meaningful Impact on the world, even if it’s a terrible horrible no good impact (Just like the Weird Route)
BUT WITH ALL THAT SAID, even if the Angel’s Heaven has the potential to be a dangerous entity - the fact that the Delta Warriors\Heroes of Light\$!$? Squad\Fun Gang\Lancer Fan Club is destined to BANISH this entity of Freedom from a world that already lacks it... well... it makes me worry a LOT about Ralsei’s prophecy and whatever we should trust it.

Thoughts and feelings on the cast of deltarune.
Kris/???
Tumblr media
They’ll rip your heart out, if you know what I mean. Probably looked like it hurt a lot. lol.
While Frisk didn’t know what to do with life, and had all the time in the world. Kris on the other hand probably has lots of ideas and goals for the future, but something is holding them back.
I can only theorize what Toby Fox has in mind for this story.
This will be very interesting!
(Also ??? is left handed. Did you know that?)
(Also NO They were absolutely not “fighting back” while we were playing. Kris is Us, and ??? is Them.)
Susie
Tumblr media
The one actually making the choices here.
While I totally called that Susie won’t actually kill anyone, I still loved how the character went.
It wouldn’t surprise me if she had DETERMINATION, and controlled timelines like Frisk/Chara did.
Battle theme is still good, and so is the sprite animation.
Ralsei
Tumblr media
I frigging knew about the frigging anagram before it was cool!
Still a sweetheart tho.
What I don’t seem to get is why he looks so much like Asriel.
There’s an Asriel above the underground, does that mean that Asriel doesn’t look like Asriel?? (Maybe he still looks like Flowey??)
Well see!!
Lancer
Tumblr media
Well this one was surprising.
Lancer is that little kid who wants to befriend the big kids, but can’t really adjust to “big kid humor”
I loved the dynamic between Lancer and Susie, They make the best kind of Partners in Crime.
That face still haunts me................ You know the one.
Seam
Tumblr media
“All’s not what it seams”
I feel like something big is gunna happen in Chapter 2.
I really can’t quite describe Seam. A cooky old coot pretty much sums it up.
Rouxls Kaard
Tumblr media
IM MAKING FUCKIN MAC AND CHEESE!
AND NO ONES GUNNA STOP ME!!!!
Probably should’ve stuck with tutorials.
A scrub.
The King of Spades
Tumblr media
Okay, so a lot went through my mind while fighting this dude.
My first thought was “Good golly, this looks like a grownup version of Lancer.”
(Maybe I’m not that far off from the mark?)
My second thought was “Manchild”
This spear/lance thingy sticking out of his stomach? Yeah, THAT FRIGGING LOOKS LIKE AN UMBILICAL CORD!!!!
I have some ideas on who the “Knight” really is, but....
Nah.
I’ll just keep that to myself.
Can’t wait to see what the Queen looks like! Maybe she’s hot? Maybe not?
Jevil
Tumblr media
CHAOS! CHAOS!!
Pure insanity at its finest. Realizing that you CAN in fact make that mac and cheese and absolutely NO ONE CAN STOP YOU.
The fight was soul-crushing, but I had fun!
???/???
It’s impolite to talk about someone when they’re listening.
Probably just as fed up as I am with these gad dang AU’s
This fandom has SO MANY AU’s

Deltarune asks
Did you ever end up going back to do the card suite puzzle in Deltarune? Just so you know, if you didn’t you can still go back to do that since the last save in the game is before you fight King. I’d recommend checking the prison elevator again before doing that though.
I haven’t gotten around to it yet, or replaying the game in general. That’s a good point about the save, thank you!
As for the prison elevator: Since finishing the game, I’ve been hanging out in the Deltarune channel on Lore’s Discord server, where I found out about Jevil. I’ve heard he claims he “can do anything”, is based on some clown stickers, and I found out yesterday how you find him. Apparently his fight is supposed to be pretty good, making up for some of the flaws in the King fight? That’s definitely another thing I want to check out, yeah.
After reading your Deltarune post, I'm so upset that you didn't mention Kris's soul getting sent to the Birdcage at the end.
Pfft! I certainly missed an opportunity there, yeah. :p
Maybe I would’ve made that joke if I had been in less of an “I just want to finish the game and go to bed” state of mind at that point. And in more of a Worm mindset.
"Heroes of Light? I don’t know, I don’t think I’d peg either of them as having that aspect." Foreshadowing the tweest ending much? Heroes of Light have a certain, ha, 'passion' for not losing.
Hehe.
Y’know, if the theory I’ve seen going around about Kris ripping their own soul out to stop us from stealing their agency and their story is right, I could actually see that as having to do with the Light aspect. I’m not sure what class it’d be, though. Maybe that reflects more on the player than on Kris, making us Vriskas Thieves of Light.
You know what did foreshadow the ending, though, that I totally called? The character overview specifying that Kris’s body contained a human soul.
Toby Fox had some things to say about Deltarune you may or may not want to read: http://www.twitlonger.com/show/n_1sqn3p9
Alright, let’s see what the Fox has to say:
1. "Is this a sequel? What's going on?? I'm scared..." Please don't worry too much about that. Actually, I'm worried if people worry too much about "what it is," they might not be able to properly enjoy it... (laugh) I will say that basically, what you're seeing here is not the world of UNDERTALE. UNDERTALE's world and ending are the same as however you left them. If everyone was happy in your ending, the people in the UNDERTALE world will still be happy. So, please don't worry about those characters, and that world. It will remain untouched. To rephrase that, DELTARUNE's world is a different one. With different characters, that have lived different lives. A whole new story will happen... I don't know what you call this kind of game. It's just a game you can play after you complete UNDERTALE, if you want to. That's all.
...alright, fair enough. I don’t trust that it’s not connected, especially through Sans (metanarrative timeline agent that he is) and maybe Chara, but it does seem to be an alternate world.
2. "I have questions I want to ask about the story..." There's a lot of questions I'd like to answer, too. That's why I have to make the game. Please wait until then.
A game dev’s equivalent of Robert Jordan’s “read and find out”.
3. "When will the next chapter come out?" This is a difficult question. When I made the demo of UNDERTALE, I made it to prove to myself that it was possible to make a whole game alone (with some help with the art). Because I was able to make it in a few months, I felt that I had proved that it was possible. However, making the demo of DELTARUNE... took a few years. So, given the length of the rest of the game, and how long I'd be willing to spend on a project (7 years maximum) I think the answer is that it's actually impossible to make this game.
I wonder how many people he’s working with. Maybe that’s the solution to this issue, to outsource some of the work to people he trusts.
Lots of things make this game harder to make than the last time. - The graphics are much more complicated and don't play to my strengths (black and white battle graphics were easy...) - The battle system is much more complicated due to multiple characters (I'll write about this later) - The overworld and other sections are more complicated due to multiple characters - Having multiple main characters is much harder to write especially introducing everyone properly in chapter 1 - The entire town had to be created correctly on the first try to set up properly for the rest of the game And further things outside of those: - Trouble starting tasks/concentrating and general difficulty paying attention - Travelling / other responsibilities like translation/ports - Self-doubt / burnout regarding the creation of the game Essentially it's not possible to make this game as one person (and Temmie).
Oh jeez, it’s only him and Temmie Chang?
Also, “Trouble starting tasks/concentrating and general difficulty paying attention” sounds like ADHD to me. I can relate heavily to this point.
However, it MIGHT be possible to create the game if I'm able to make a team. So I'm going to try making a team. Because I really want to make this. But I may not be able to succeed because I have no experience successfully directing a team and I have no idea who I'm going to work with.
Yes, good. That sounds a lot healthier.
I’m sure he can do it. In a pinch, I know he knows people who can probably give him pointers on team leadership, too, over at What Pumpkin.
Since I haven't started assembling the team yet I have absolutely no estimation of its completion. It could take up to 999 years depending on the efficiency level. By the way, I currently plan to release all of the chapters at once after we complete them. I'm not sure how long that will take. You'll buy all of the chapters at once as one purchase. That'll be the only option. I'm not doing pre-orders because I don't like those. It just seems like the best way not to burn anybody. Price is unknown. It depends on how long the game is, and how much it costs to make... I don't know anything about what consoles, etc. it'll come out for because by the time it comes out we might be on Playstation 14 or something. So... in short, I have no idea.
That’s all very fair.
4. "Is this the game's final design? Will you change anything?" It's possible I could change things. This is basically a demo. I might even change this first chapter before release depending on how development goes. This is really an excuse to talk about the parts I think had issues. THE BATTLE SYSTEM: I think the battle system could be explained better. I had a super duper long explanation of things here but really it boils down to: 1. UT's system is incompatible with multiple party members but I wanted to do it anyway because it's cool 2. I'd like to make it so for pacifist players, characters won't have to "defend" so much Oh. The people who tested the game thought that the TP system and animations were cool so it's not all bad. By the way, did you notice that getting close to bullets makes enemy attacks end faster? It doesn't work for every attack, but...
I didn’t notice that detail, but I do appreciate the way it adds to TP without having to defend. But I found myself defending a lot anyway just because it was the only thing there was much point in doing with the characters in question sometimes.
I do feel like there wasn’t enough to use the TP for, but that seems like something that might change as the characters develop more skills over the course of the full game.
EVERYTHING ELSE: I thought everything else was OK. Actually some parts were kind of lazy, like finding the key pieces, but oh well. The UI had some things that could be changed too. When making a game, there's so much to do you have to draw the line somewhere. That's why I need other people to help me (laugh) Oh, and I have no plans to add more content to the first chapter.
5. "Will there be multiple endings?" No. No matter what you do the ending will be the same. (Honestly most games are like that, but for some reason it feels really oppressive to say here...) I think that's part of the reason why the ACT / FIGHT system feels so vestigial in this one. Oh... I'm just talking about the battle system again...
Toby sounds a lot like Napstablook in this thing.
A single ending, huh? Interesting, considering the contrasts between Deltarune and Undertale regarding whether your choices matter and whether fighting is sometimes necessary, and the fact that Ralsei explicitly asks you to do a pacifist run.
6. "I found some kind of bug, will you fix it?" Hopefully an e-mail for that exists on the website by now. Or, it would be better if you could tweet it with #deltarunebug . That would really help us and make our lives easier because tweets are easier to ignore than e-mails
Ahaha!
7. "Can I be on the team?" I'll ask you first!!! (Total silence)
The humor is picking up here. :p
8. "What's the progress on the rest of the game so far?" 0%!!! Nothing!!! I've done nothing!!! I mean, I've done some songs and written the whole story, but... Since no programming or final art has been done, it's best to just think of it at 0%. 9. "Will you do a Kickstarter?" I still haven't finished that damn Alarm Clock, are you kidding me? There's no way I'm doing a Kickstarter this time.
I assume he’s referencing a pledge reward from the Kickstarter for Undertale (that was how I first found out about Undertale, actually, though I then forgot about it until it came out) that hasn’t panned out, or something like that.
10. "The game doesn't work" / "I don't like the game" / "Will there be a version for (platform)?" Because it's a free download I'm surrounded by a forcefield that destroys all complaints and platform requests. There might be more platforms for the DEMO but I don't want to make any promises. (At the very least it'd be nice to do something for the people who bought the game on console.) By the way at the time of writing I haven't even rendered a Mac version whatsoever at all. I hope I can release it... (laugh)
I have a friend who was unable to play the game himself because (as far as I can recall) he’s on a Mac. But yeah, this is fair.
11. "Can I buy the soundtrack for Chapter 1?" Yes! You can buy it at [ http://tobyfox.bandcamp.com ] And other forms of distribution will be in the works too. I'm writing this in the past so I don't know what I just said. 12. "Any closing remarks?" (No one asks this, but...) Thanks for playing my game. I hope you liked it. For the past 3 years I've been waking up in the middle of the night unable to go back to sleep because I've been thinking about the scenes that happen in the game. Even though so many details are still hazy, I really want to show you the things I've been thinking about. That's really my only reason for making this game. If I don't show you what I'm thinking, I'll lose my mind. (It was actually a totally selfish motivation...)
...interesting. Looks like we’re in for a ride when the full game comes.
Not that I was really doubting that.
By the way, I was really worried at first about making this. The expectations for my next work would be really high, so high that I knew that no matter what I did, I felt like people would be underwhelmed. If you played "UNDERTALE," I don't think I can make anything that makes you feel "that way" again. However, it's possible I can make something else. It's just something simple but maybe you'll like it. See you in ?? years... OK? Don't forget.
My audience probably won’t believe me if I say I won’t, due to my history of bad memory, but I don’t think I will.
And yeah. Especially when you’re connecting it to Undertale and its characters, people are going to compare the two. But even if Deltarune isn’t quite the same hit as Undertale was, it’ll be worth it, I’m sure.

Deltarune thoughts
so I launched the survey program, and then after completing it, it pulled a flowey sorta and closed itself down. WHICH is how I learned that there’s save slots!
[spoilers on ahead]
Tumblr media
which is neat cause I wanted to do some different stuff this time. specifically the mean stuff, and ALSO I was hoping I could access my file again because I forgot to go back and find the last piece of the key so I could unleash the basement freedom dude.
also it wasn’t until after I finished the survey program that I noticed that deltarune is an anagram of undertale. which is... really sad imo since we already knew about the delta rune back IN undertale. I am just that big a dumbass.not noticing for literal years.
ANYWAY, some thoughts from the first playthrough
the reason my save file is MEGAN instead of my usual handle is because I totally got tricked by toby again, the vessel got the name niv, and then when it asked about me, I was just kinda
Tumblr media
first thing, Kris is cute, and I was super thrown by how empty their half the room was, it was pretty sad and i’m concerned for this kid too, how unhappy they must be. Seeing toriel gave me all kinds of :D feels, and the drive through town was nice, I thought maybe this was a post undertale game, this world they built.
then school and almost getting murdered by bullies and going to the underworld. The characters are cute and super funny. if you saw my post that was 90% punctuation, the happy face was about hugging raslei and then the dummy, it was just so super adorable.
I can’t remember any concrete thoughts about the story line itself, it seemed to speak for itself pretty well, until the end when ralsei did his teary goodbye, and revealed himself to look a lot like teen asriel. which, shoulda been obvious to me, but I think I already established that I need anagrams explained to me or I won’t notice.
walking back around the town was super disorienting too, because aside from toriel and asgore being divorced and having their kid asriel (who is at college apparently?) and besides the NEW characters, none of frisks old friends seemed to know each, other. Grillby is gone, and Sans bought the place and turned it into a grocery store (but at least is still a troll and I am a bonfide idiot baby). The brothers home didn’t have all their lights on it, and good ol papyrus won’t even open the door to talk to you. Apparently they just moved in the other day.
alphys and undyne don’t know each other, bratty and catty hate each other, I found the graves of gerson and snowy’s mom, the dog leader, and shyra. It was all very melancholy and othering and wrong. I explored the town and couldn’t find susie again. At the beginning, I forgot the classic undertale controls, so it wasn’t until after getting back to the school that I noticed up top in the light that it had the classic undertale interface.
Eventually I just go back to toriel, and to bed, and the part where kris just yanks their soul out, and caged it, and gives the fourth wall that murder look scared the shit out of me, and I just have SO MANY QUESTIONS. WHAT IS HAPPENING??
why is everything so wrong? why is everything so christian? why is everything so heteronormative? why is kris the only human in monster town? why is deltarune the beforus of homestuck? the WoD of WoW? (which is extra apt to me since the last boss of the game has the mouth stomach and gorefiend was a wod raid boss then lol)
then I went all the say back to go find the last key piece and apparently there’s just this optional boss fight way back here, who reminds me of of lil cal. stupid laughing murder clowns. stupid murder jesters named jevil. stupid me taking way too long to notice he can use all the card suites because he’s a jester.
unfortunately, I suck at games too much to win, and I am sleepy and have a cold. when I went to try and Be a Douche, I realized that I can’t, not really, that’s not a choice I can make in this game. At most, people seem a little meaner. I was curious for sure if susie would still leave even thought I was fighting everything else.
The only significant change was that at the end, instead of a moshpit, the king is tired and ralsei casts pacify on him. Lancer doesn’t even seem perturbed about the beat down he got? he’s just like, ‘yeah that’ll happen, oh look he’s even having a beauty nap!’ but the people we beat up are beating down the doors to the throne room to get at us, and ralsei hurries us out, does the face reveal, and there’s no time for good byes, ‘because we’re the bad guys so we only have bad byes’ thanks lancer. anyway, the king is still in power, no governmental overthrow this time.
the town and the end scene in the bedroom was no different after doing all that, but I might have to and redo the last fight a few times, see if the end is any different after being a douche and then talking down the king
