Show Your Coloring Before & After

As previously mentioned, all edits are done on mobile apps. Here, I specifically wanted to focus on the raw export onto my computer before sizing/fonts are applied. SW and MARVEL caps typically have screencap galleries in 2160p, while most BL’s I cap myself are required to be 1080p or more. And the most important thing I look for, before editing, is a cap that already shows good lighting and composition. That way, the editing elevates the image.

I won’t go into detail for each edit, but I can touch on my common adjustments and then call out what additional work needed to be achieved for the final edit.

VSCO is my main app for coloring. In addition to having a better quality camera than the built-in one I have, the presets and adjustments achieve better results than other apps I used for IG. I gravitate towards exposure, white balance, vignette, and grain (rip grain 2020-2022, nothing happened but im still bitter its now a subscription feature).

At this point, I am very in tune with what I look for in my edits, so I know how to measure my adjustments and the number range for each (ex: grain ranged between 2.8 to 4.1 depending on the resolution). I now rely on Snapseed for Grain, which is under Grainy Film.

Snapseed is also my go-to app for my most recent editing style — the scratchy or film clip borders (Frames) and then the borders (Expand). If there’s a dusty film look or blurred text, they were overlays (Double Exposure). I’ve also used Perspective, Selective, and Lens Blur in past edits. And of course, text is available here but there’s a limited selection.

When I have made all the necessary adjustments, I specifically save as an Export (not Save or Save a Copy) with the final changes. I find that the Exported images from Snapseed (VSCO too) size down better than the Saved versions.

Size matters, in regards to these edits. Why? I manipulate the size down (commonly from ~1500px+ width to less than 900px), so that the grain is accentuated (and looks sharper). In the end, coloring does skew slightly underneath the grain, which gives off that photograph look moreso than the raw export. Additional work for the selected edits are below the cut -

Random BB Screen Cap #12 (Frame 5) - very minimal adjustments, exposure and grain did most of the work

Anakin from Ep VI (Frame 1) - also very minimum, before the additional frame and border; white balance leans heavily on the red side of the spectrum (I think it was above 3.0) before adjusting the saturation down a smidge.

KinnPorsche/War of the Foxes (Frame 4) - I use the B5 preset for all b/w edits in VSCO; image was very mid in coloring, so I used Brush in Snapseed to “burn” the bg

Weeping Angels Set (Frame 12) - very little adjustments needed; white balance leaned more yellow for warmth, in order to work cohesively with the surrounding images; 

BB/Jane Eyre (Frame 2) - again, very little need to be adjusted; the seat lean more pink, but I needed the set to match the purple in Frame 3; white balance leans more blue

The Good Place (Frame 3) - similar to all above statements with adjustments; the additional ’scratches’ come from Unfold, another app I use frequently for this affect and others; I believe this can be found under Journals(?); I export the template and then go back to Snapseed to crop out the excess

BB Top 3 Eps (Frame 2) - Unfold again, but this is under the Paper series; if I want variety in the “folds”, I would flip the image upside down

BB Film Noir #2 (Frame 1) - the only time I used contrast and exposure to its extremes; also heavily relies on using Double Exposure in Snapseed to add in the old film effects and blurred text

@clutch-wept was an amazing human and made this stunning edit of my power couple and I am honestly... like obsessed with it so much I ended up writing this little oneshot for them under the cut! Thank you again... I am highly obsessed with this. It is their vibe...so hard...  

There was a time that we were untouchable in Holland Valley. 

Perhaps that makes us sound more important than we perhaps really were, but never the less, when we would drive into Falls End it was like everyone stopped. 

One day, when Lily was just a little over a year old, we were stopping to pick up Sean at his modest house in town. We were on our way to a weekly gathering to hear Joseph give his latest sermon. John was in a full Armani suit, no tie, the top two buttons of his shirt undone. It’s not a sight that many in Hope County had seen before we had made our home there.

John hopped out of the car, “He didn’t answer his phone when I called him before we left..” he noted leaning against the driver’s side door. 

“He probably drank too much last night and over slept... just go in and get him up..” I tell him with a heavy sigh. Sean, like myself, saw the ‘rules’ regarding alcohol as more of a suggestion that the word of law. John let out a ragged sigh and mumbled under his breath. “Yes, sinners...I know but you love us... just go get him up!” I call out as I step out of the SUV myself and begin to make my way around to the driver’s side backseat, where Lily was strapped into her car seat playing with her feet. 

With John inside, hopefully getting Sean out of bed and dressed, I opted to let Lily out of her car seat for a few minutes while we waited. Reaching in I unclasped the buckles and slipped my hands under her arms lifting her out. “Come here princess...” I smiled at my little girl who was babbling away happily. “How much you want to bet your Uncle Sean is laying face down on his living room floor again...” I coo in a sing song voice to Lily knowing that it was less the words I was saying and more the tone I said them in that she found so amusing. 

I stood near the back of our car adjusting Lily’s hair bow when a truck rolled up in front of me and the window rolled down. Inside was the Ryes. I had become friendly with Kim shortly after had moved into the Ranch. We would always run into each other in town or at the store and felt it was some sign. Sticking her head out of the passenger window Kim smiled. “Mary Jane!” She called out as she reached over and patted Nick’s arm. “Just park the truck, I want to say hi..” I could hear Nick grumble from within the cab and waved at him, which only seemed to make him grumble more. 

Kim stepped out of the truck and walked the few short paces over to me. “Look at the two of you all fancy...” She laughed as she leaned down to smile at Lily who reached out for her her. “And you... you are getting so big..” 

“She’s trying walk now.” I laughed as I pulled down Lily’s white dress that was in stark contrast to black one I had on. “She can cruise along the couch but the second she thinks about going further... butt to ground.” We both laugh. 

Kim leaned back and crosses her arms in front of her chest. “You missed the book club last week, I was worried.” 

I laughed nervously trying to think of the best excuse other than the truth which was that Joseph had said I was spending too much time with the Sinners and their influence was going to corrupt me. “Oh, Lily had an ear infection and just wanted Mama...” I hated using my daughter to lie, but I didn’t want to hurt Kim’s feelings. She wasn’t a bad person, none of the ‘sinners’ were bad people. I wish that Joseph would listen to me that we would get more people willing to join if we just let ourselves live as normally as possible. With a sigh I smiled sadly, “Actually, I am glad you stopped. I wanted to let you know I am not going to able to keep coming to the book club..” 

“What? MJ?! Why?” Kim exclaimed a little upset but more shocked. 

“John is so busy lately with business with the Project.” I started trying to explain. “With little miss here being more and more mobile. It’s becoming harder to find someone who is willing to watch her..” Which was a bold faced lie. There were more than enough people who would be willing to watch Lily for an hour for me to go, most of the time John would just take her with him if he had to but Kim couldn’t know that. 

With a sad sigh Kim shook her head, “No... bring her! We love Lily..” She reached out and took Lily’s little hand. “MJ, come on... I know you need this break.” 

Before I could even answer I could hear John and Sean coming out. I peaked over my shoulder secretly relieved to see my brother, wet hair messed up but fully dressed in a well fitting black suit of his own. Turning back I quickly figured out a way to deflect the situation. “Why don’t you come over for lunch tomorrow at the Ranch and maybe we can figure something out?” I suggest. 

“I think that sounds like a plan because I don’t want you to have to give up book club just because you can’t find a sitter...” Kim motioned for me to come give her a hug. I smiled and obliged her. “Okay, I’ll let you all get going but I am holding you to that Lunch, MJ... I will call you in the morning.” 

“Alright...” I said with a bright smile watching Kim walk back to her car. 

John walked up behind me, his hand sliding across my lower back as he leaned in. “What was all that about?” He whispered as he lifted a hand to wave to Kim and Nick as they were about to go back on their way. 

“Book Club...” I mumbled turning around to face him. John glanced down at Lily and smiled at her as he ran his hand over the back of her head. “I am not going to get out of it easily...” 

“I told you joining it was a bad idea..” John mumbled and I resisted the urge to roll my eyes. 

“Noted, but I was not in a good place after I had Lily and I needed friends...” 

“You have Ellie now, you don’t need the book club.” John noted softly and I couldn’t help but nod. “We gotta get moving though, we are already cutting it close and if we are late again...” 

“I know... I know...” I mutter as John opened the door for me to place Lily back in her car seat so we could get going. 

Sean slid into the back seat next to Lily. I glared up at him as I snapped he chest straps together and got them situated in the right stop of her chest. “Don’t look at me in that tone of voice, MJ...” Sean scolded lifting a finger. “I was in the shower...” 

“Likely story...” I muttered with a huff of a laugh. 

“I am good and wholesome boy..” Sean quipped back placing his hand on his chest. 

John let out a low chuckle from the driver’s seat. “Wholesome...” he repeated. “Mhm, so wholesome.” 

“I am an angel...” Sean joked making John laugh harder while I just shook my head as I shut the door, Lily all buckled in. 

As I climbed back into the front passenger’s seat I looked back at my brother who was lent over making silly faces at his niece. “You are an idiot... but you are unfortunately my idiot... in fact... both of you are.” 

“HEY!” both objected as I buckled my seat belt. 

“Oh calm down... you are pretty idiots... “ Laugh sinking back into my chair. 

As John turned over the engine he looked over and very seriously said. “remind me again why I married you...” 

Sitting up I leaned over so our faces were only a few inches apart. “because you love me..” I started before a smirked and gestured to my chest. “and the girls... and the girls..” John laughed and gave a slow playful nod as he leaned in and gave me a quick, tender kiss. 

“That’s it...” he muttered putting his hands back on the steering wheel. 

Sean groaned from the back seat as he covered his face with his hand and covered Lily’s eyes with his other. “Your parents, Lily...” 

“Are actually still in love unlike our own who just got to this lovely point of mutual hatred and financial dependency...” I quip darkly. 

“God MJ, you don’t have to be so accurate and savagely burn our parents all in one breath...” 

We all ended up descending into muffled laughter as John pulled out of the driveway and headed towards this weeks meeting spot.

Hi! I'm new to systems and things like this.. uh. What does your headspace look like? Or do you have a history with yours. I dunno what to do for mine...

Uhh honestly our headspace is a Little Big so, im not sure where to start.. it’s not very simple to explain since we have a map’s worth of area to cover! And each place has it’s own Feel and stuff. I’ll try to be a bit brief- maybe going through our Headspace History (HH /j)

So along time ago, we only had the Meadow, and for the OG members, they thought it was all we had. Then over time and after some exploring, it grew! Well, it didn’t grow, but they started exploring and finding new stuff. Then Jaiden made the mansion, and it kind of explodes from there until it slowed down again sicne we all had no interesting in exploring anymore

It’s not accurate but this is what we have today. It’s VERY Huge. We even have a second planet, but we don’t really visit that nymore, nor do we want to. On the other side of the world, i know there’s a beach.. but we haven’t gone more than a year though with how Big this map is, do know that there’s trees and LOTS of unexplored areas! We don’t have NPC’s other than Small critters like mice, rabbits, owls, fireflies, bugs, birds, etc! So we don;t have predators either, but it’s possible there are wolves in the mountains.. I am NOT going to try and confirm that. The other NPC’s we have are the Robots in the ruined City. They are NOT friendly! theyre 3+ stories high, and look liek a GIANT marble on stilts that can shoot lasers. I don’t wanna go into detail unless anyone asks specific questions. There’s just TOO many stuff to talk about it one post haha

I will go into the mansion though

This is the mansion, or the main oarts of it at least! Ignoring the interior, this is it! It started with only the main room at first, but expanded to have a tall corridor with Alven’s arrival. Then people just started adding rooms from there. It’s VERY tall! It’s taller than a 2-3 story HOUSE in there. It’s so tall, Peter could practice swinging using the huge coloumns dkhdkh. It’s also very long, so if you don’t run, you won’t reach the end after a while.

The interior for the main room and Tall corridor is very Victorian and Elegant. So lots of golds and whites for the main room. In tne Tall Corridor, it has a lot of cool colors- purples and darker but not edgy-reds. There’s almost a permanent sun/moon ray from the windows flowing into the floor.

When we (the teens) started moving in this year, I’m pretty sure Jaiden didn’t fill up the whole corridor just because there’s so many of us. So he made our own living quarters sub-room

The way the mansion works, is that it;s always bigger on the inside. So no matter how small thae main room might be, once you open a door, it’s bigger than what it might feel like from the outside. Also, for the mansion- it has no exterior. On the outside, it’s two big doors. But yeah, if you look outside the windows, you see the meadow. Which is weird... because one time, someone crashed into Jaiden’s room via the window from the outside- but my brain hurts trying to explain how that’s possible

The above is a VERY crude simplified version of our living hallways!! I’m too lazy to draw and assign which door is what- but MJ and Peter’s doors are across the hall from/in front of each other. Me and kris have rooms next to each other, and so on. The interior here is like a cozy and simple hotel, and we all have our own rooms.

Here’s our old post about our headspace! Some updates are:

Farmhouse: nobody lives there anymore; Jamie moved in to a deeper level of the mansion somewhere only Cahra and Jaiden can get to properly

The Bunker: empty... everyone moved out and into the Mansion (Withe the exception of Matthew but he’s.. dormant now)

Toriel’s cottage: described as a very otherworldy area not because it’s alien, but because it feels so nice and calm, that it feels unreal. The sun shines so nice and peeks through the trees in a pretty way all the time

Crowley’s apartment: we don’t know where it is and we never will

General stuff about our headspace:

Jamie discovered it more than made it. Not all of us can edit or make things from thin air but some people can! (see: Jaiden and Crowley).

Some areas we didn’t make, and just appeared with more exploration OR when someone splits. Toriel didn’t make her cottage, it was just like the brain made it for her without us asking. Same for Fluttershy. For Crowley, he had to make his apartment and Bentley from scratch

After that, I can’t give much advice for your headspace <:-) meditation is definitely key, and trying to connect to your headspace more might help! From what we;ve seen, every system has different “headspace rules” (like for example some behave very realistic where instead of summonign a sofa, they need to order one or build one ikea style. For us, we have magic, some don’t, etc)

The headspace is a ‘pwerful’ place!! So With enough practice you should be able to make small things if not big things. What you wanna add, go for it! If it’s big and permanent, then talking to your system members and asking for what they might like can give you ideas!
