What I really think media with ensemble casts, especially those in a traveling group of some kind, are missing are big, blow-out arguments between the group. Especially when there's a conflict of interests, I am such a sucker for when two or more characters disagree so strongly that they realize very little is actually holding them together as a group, and wonder if it's time to go their separate ways.

I feel like a lot of video games, specifically, just kind of assume once the traveling band is "complete", it's forced to stay together until the player expressly permits it, but I don't really find that very compelling and a lot of times it feels more like they're relying on some kind of immediately strong bond that hasn't really been earned. Which is a shame, because in my opinion one of the best ways to strengthen that bond is to have the characters disagree and argue. Maybe they realize they're only being superficially held together and so they temporarily split up, only to then realize how much they've come to care for the others in the group. Then they reunite, make-up, formulate a plan to go forward, and boom, the group bond is that much stronger. Or maybe they don't even split up, and maybe they never learn to like each other, but they decide whatever cause their working toward is more important. Something else, bigger than them, is holding them together.

It just feels like a lot of potential is going to waste to just skip straight to the intense found family bond, without earning it.

#there are exceptions of course #like I thought it was clever how bg3 did it where the group didn't necessarily intend to be traveling together this long #and then once they learned about the tadpoles and the artifact it turns out it's either stay together or die #but a disagreement between them every once and a while instead of assuming they're all insta-besties couldn't hurt #and DA2 kinda circumvents this by Hawke not really going anywhere #so if Fenris isn't having a good time with Anders he can just like stay home and vice versa #but games like Octopath Traveler 2 would really benefit from some stronger disagreements #like my first playthrough Castti's ch. 4 and Osvald's ch. 5 lined up right next to each other #and like vague ot2 spoilers #but what I would give to see them hash it out #over whether to save thousands of people Castti doesn't know potentially at the cost of saving one person Osvald cares a great deal for #or vice versa #especially with how hardened Osvald's become it would have been soooo juicy #i get that would've been difficult to implement and that's probably more the job of fanfic #but that's just an example of what I mean #idk I just think more creators shouldn't be afraid to have their characters seriously argue with each other #because not every disagreement is a dealbreaker and can in fact strengthen their bonds #and like not every game cast needs to be found family! but if you want that found family effect you have to show them arguing like a family #poe1 is a good example of a group that travel together and don't necessarily have this tight bond #they just feel like good friends (mostly)#i had other examples that I can't think of now and may add later #I feel like I was going somewhere with this but yeah it's just something I've been thinking about #let characters fight sometimes. conflict is what makes stories good #edit: FE: 3 Houses was the other example I was thinking of!#like things get pretty dire in the Blue Lions route and Dimitri has some pretty questionable moments #but with the exception of like Felix hardly anyone calls him out on it they just kind of go along with it #and lo and behold Felix is one of my favorite 3H characters and his friendship with Dimitri is extremely compelling #bc their friendship was tested and survived #marie speaks

I wish GI wasn't trying to push people (kinda specifically longer players) away from the game, like damn. I really hope new players are watching closely and not just deciding "there are haters" or "complainers." Some of the things, like the age old where's the end-of-game road map, have been actual game needs that haven't been addressed for years. Game needs, guys. Idk, if you still call some people haters/complainers, then I'm probably gonna call you a bootlicker lol

Grandpa update - really, almost perfect artifacts except for that accursed circlet. If anyone's looking for me, I'll be running Clear Pool and Mountain Cavern for the next month hoping for a crit damage or HP% circlet that rolls as good as this (unfortunately ATK%) one.

The fact that it did roll really good makes the build work, though. Big meteor go kaboom.

#i'll go artifacts then talents #level 8 is fine enough but more importantly after that last batch of levelin yesterday i'm completely broke #i have like 200 000 mora to my name #i need a sponsor #money disappears so fast #i do mean the artifacts being almost perfect too #hp% rolls are so welcome on him #the flower not rolling crit damage was a good outcome considering it all went into hp #and how often do i get to be happy about hp rolls #ray's records #genshin #the artifact grind never ends #so little resin so little luck #this team does not have an ounce of synergy but all 4 of them are cracked enough that it works perfectly fine for overworld anyway

having a lot of characters in genshin kind of sucks like i don’t have enough materials to build all of them but i like them all too much to pick just one to work on at a time

#genshin impact #genshin #i want all my five stars built cause i like them #but i have a lot of four stars with good constellations #but also i need to focus on building one of my shielders #but also what about my favs that don’t really work in any of my teams??#but also i’m prefarming for some #and that all takes second priority to alhaitham of course who still needs a few talent levels and better artifacts #i have mostly been juggling alhaithams talents with general wanderer/venti/tighnari building #and am very broke lol #so i am putting everything on pause while saving and farming for cyno #and hopefully i’ll get a few things stocked back up whenever i have extra resin or whatever lol #annoying decision since wanderer just needs better artifacts and im SO close to having all of ventis last ascension materials #but the lack of organization is killing me lol #gotta shut down the whole account for a 20 day grinding period lol #except for alhaitham i will continue to work on him cause i love him😌

Wait before I sleep, lemme tell yall bout the personal grudge I have for Childe cuz why not. When I was playing GI, I first used the EU server during launch, but then Childe got announced and I'm like really bad with bow characters, but Childe's kit makes it so that he doesn't need to shoot with his bow. So I was like: Okay, I want this ginger boy in my account now. But then I got really hyped by his trailer, I HAVE to have him in my main.

So I opened up the NA server and Asia server to get as many pulls as I can to securely get him cuz I pulled for Venti in my EU server and didn't have any for Childe. But like the gambling addict that I am, used up some pulls in the NA server on Klee's banner (I got her too!) And I was like: Whichever server gets him, will be my main server. So theeen! His banner comes out, I have around 40 smth pulls on the NA and Asia server. I didn't get him. And so I was like: Okay... I'll play some more then keep pulling.

Took me total 80 pulls in NA server and I didn't even had the time to do anything on the Asia server cuz I was searching EVERY nook and cranny for primos in NA server and his banner was SO CLOSE to ending. It nearly broke my mind. So NA became my main and ever since then I started bullying Childe every now and then. Which wasn't a good thing. Cuz the game rng does reverse psychology of: If you hate a character, it'll be the only one getting good rng for nearly everything.

I mained Qiqi, and then Noelle after getting her c6, AND then Itto. But guess who was my strongest character with his own signature weapon that I somehow got from a joke pull? Childe. He has the highest stats in my account. And his crit rate is definitely around 60% with nearly 200 crit dmg, BUT HE NEVER CRITS WHEN I NEED HIM TO. I use his ult and then I see that tiny ass dmg with its small font and I'm like, bro... for the love of god pls CRIT (I don't remember what his crit dmg on raw power was but it definitely was past 90k. and he can get around 200k if buffed. I'm a casual player so I'm satisfied with that but GOD, this man knows to annoy me by showing me that mf 10k from an ult that can nuke small enemies).
