NDISC Meeting - Feb 2, 2017
Greetings friends,
I am pleased to inform you that our first NDISC meeting of the semester will be taking place on Thursday, February 2nd at 12:00-1:00pm in 1140 Flanner Hall. Please feel free to bring your lunch and enjoy it during the meeting.
Our friend Oguzhan Tan will be presenting a paper currently titled,"Another Case of Diffusion Between Authority and Interpretation: Child Marriage in/and Islamic Law". In addition to looking over the paper (which is a work in progress), Oguz asks that we take a look at the first seven verses of Qur’an Sura 4, al-Nisa' and Qur’an Sura 65, al-Talaq.
Hope to see you there!
Best regards,
Andrew

NDISC Meeting - April 6, 2017
Greetings NDISCers,
I am excited to announce our next NDISC meeting, which will take place on Thursday, April 6th at 12:00 noon EST in our usual spot, 1140 Flanner Hall.
Scott Hibbard (DePaul University) will share some of his research based on his current book project, Political Islam and America’s Long War, which "takes a retrospective look at the debates within American foreign policy circles over how best to deal with the challenge of Islamist militancy." Prof. Hibbard will present for about 40 minutes or so, and then we will open up the floor for discussion.
I hope that many you will be able to make it.
Note also that we will follow up with another NDISC meeting sometime in late April.
Best,
Andrew
