Bahryn Festival Day V Challenge
Taking a break between scenes in the next chapter of the Force User Zeb fic.
Anyway here are some headcanons in celebration of @bahrynfestival
-Rex and Kallus are good friends, Kal has a great appreciation to the clone. He gets along with pretty much all the clones. He enjoys camaraderie wherever it happens to bloom, and there's a lot of that with them.
-Once Hera comes to trust Kallus, the two are very quick to become best friends, though it's more reluctant/gun shy from Kallus. Hera sees him and tries to adopt him, as she does with any stray she finds, and ended up with a uno reverse. Kallus very quickly started regularly checking in with her. He used the "if i have to be mindful of how many hours I spend working, so do you, general," card frequently. Their friendship initially began to pick up quickly when Hera sent Kallus out onto base to make good, appropriate use of his spy skill set. Gathering the tea.
-Sometimes Zeb gets stuck in his own head. He'll space out while doing a task for hours, just falling deeper and deeper down the rabbit holes. Kallus catches on to this very early on and keeps coming up with different ways to help pull him out of it. He'll help Zeb with whatever task he's on, he'll become very playful because he knows Zeb will fall into the playfulness like a kit every single time, he'll give Zeb a smooch and Zeb doesn't let him leave until he gets a kiss (human kiss or lasat kiss), Kal will challenge Zeb to a spar and make sure to keep him present and grounded in the fight. He finds new ways of doing this continuously.
-Kallus is one of the few people Chopper doesn't fuck with. Hera laughs about it. No one can tell if Kallus is genuinely unaware of the fact that the droid is a menace or if he's pretending not to know just to fuck with people on base. Almost everyone on base has been mercilessly shocked by the droid at least once.
-Zeb likes to lounge any where he finds comfortable, which is pretty much anywhere. He'll rest or sleep on the most random shit. Ships, buildings, trees, crates, tables, equipment, Kallus so he is unable to move therefore cannot overwork himself and has to sleep.
-kids love Zeb. They will randomly start following him around. Sometimes in groups. One time Zeb was walking through a town and turned back to see 25+ children following him. He has genuinely no idea what to do about this and is very awkward around children. Babies are sometimes scared of him when he's anxious, but once that child becomes mobile, Zeb will be followed by them all.
*drops this one and fucks back off to my writing hole* -Ahsoka was the one who officially recruited Kallus as fulcrum. And no one knew this.

Nightmares
Please see the series Masterlist for more details! Although this can be read as a standalone.
Summary: Kallus' nightmares are still a problem :/
Word Count:
Relationships: Alexsandr Kallus/Garazeb "Zeb" Orrelios
Warnings: Nightmares. Sleeping medication.
Zeb returns from their mission exhausted. He’s wide awake when he sees Christine approaching the ship as the ramp lowers.
“Is Kal okay?” Zeb asks as he hastens to meet her halfway.
“Yes, but he won’t be if he doesn’t get some rest.” Christine says.
“He in intelligence?”
“Yup.”
“Okay, I’m on it, thanks.” He nods and heads off to fetch Kal.
-
“We talked about this.” Zeb says as they head back towards their bunk.
“I know,” Kallus sighs, he just can’t seem to sleep when Zeb isn’t with him. They’ve talked about it before but it’s not like they can stay together all the time. It’s just not a feasible thing. Zeb has asked Kallus to see one of the medics about it, but Kallus isn’t willing to go to such lengths for something as silly as nightmares.
“I really wish you’d at least talk to someone about them, it doesn't have to be me but someone.” Zeb says.
“I know,” Kallus repeats as they reach their door and he punches in the key code. Zeb sighs and moves to get ready to sleep. Kallus knows Zeb is probably exhausted himself from his mission and he wants them both to get some rest. He doesn’t like having Zeb worry over him, which is a double edged sword with this issue. If he talks to Zeb, the lasat will be worried and if he doesn’t talk to someone, Zeb will be worried anyways. He just hasn’t decided what he wants to have Zeb worrying over.
“C’mon” Zeb says as he moves to help Kallus remove his jacket and boots. Kallus debates with himself internally as to whether or not he should say something. The internal debate lasts long enough that by the time he comes anywhere close to a decision, he’s already cuddled up to Zeb and they're both falling asleep.
-
“Kal.” Zeb says as he sits on the edge of the bed and runs his fingers through the human’s hair. He moves his hand back as he watches Kal jump up to sitting.
“You’re back.” Kal says as he settles at the sight of Zeb.
“I’m back, you wanna talk about it?” Zeb asks as he does every time. He’s expecting the usual dismissal and reassurance that Kal’s okay, but that’s not what happens.
"It's Lasan but you're there now and I- I-" Kal says and cuts himself off as he starts to choke up. Zeb can understand where it's going and just pulls Kal to him, letting the human's tears soak into his shoulder. Alex falls asleep like that and Zeb adjusts them to lay down in the bed. Dozing off himself as he lets Alex get some well deserved rest.
-
“I’m proud of you, you know.” Zeb says the next morning as they’re getting ready to head out to their respective shifts.
“What.” Kallus says, confused.
“For talking, even just a little.” Zeb explains.
“Oh.” Kallus doesn’t know what to say, he barely even finished a sentence before breaking down. It’s something he’s almost positive he will overthink later, he’s already preparing to talk himself out of whatever spiral he goes into after that ‘show of weakness’.
“I love you.” Zeb says as he moves over to rub his cheek against Kallus’.
“I love you too.” Kallus replies as he moves to pull Zeb’s mouth to his own after the lasat finishes scenting him.
-
Kallus feels horrible for not being able to sleep alone without being plagued by nightmares. Made worse when Zeb starts to ensure he's with Kallus for sleep as often as possible. It gets a little better when they find out that leaving something covered in Zeb’s scent for Kallus to sleep with helps keep the nightmares at bay, so it’s easier to convince Zeb to go on missions
He feels a bit like a child, unable to truly sleep alone and requiring a blanket or shirt that smells like Zeb to get a somewhat decent rest. He also hates to admit that it only helps somewhat and he seems to require Zeb's actual presence to be nightmare free. He hates that Zeb is observant enough to notice this as well.
It’s after the third time that Zeb rearranges something he was looking forward to for Kallus’ sleep that Kallus decides that maybe it’s time to talk to a medic. He can’t keep disrupting Zeb’s life like this.
He doesn't know why he's hiding the fact he's taking sleeping medication. He knows Zeb would support him trying to get sleep and getting help for it. But he just can't admit such a weakness out loud - it was already mortifying admitting to the medic he had trouble sleeping and the ordeal of them trying to get the medication to begin with. It's just that he feels selfish for taking rebellion resources for something so small and insignificant - not that the medic made him feel that way, the medic said quite the opposite and was glad Kallus was seeking help. A well rested rebel was better at surviving and helping then one dead on their feet.
And despite all this and knowing he should, he still can’t bring himself to tell Zeb.

I'm gonna attack ya'll with the fluffiest headcannon I have:
So Kallus and Zeb are retired and living a beautiful quiet life on Lirasan. As a hobby Zeb starts volunteering at the local zoo (ie. Carl & Ellie), and every year he gives tours to a class of kids from the local school (kids are about 2nd to 3rd grade age). Anyways as kids do, they ask Zeb what his favorite animal is. But Zeb just laughs and tells them "you'll have to wait to the end of the tour to find out".
Here's the thing, the kids have been dying to find out what it is since they found out they were going to the zoo weeks before the trip. Because Zeb said the same thing to the class the year before them, and the year before that. As amazing as loth cats are (another animal they saw at the zoo), by the end of the tour the tiny lasats are literally climbing up the walls with anticipation.
By the time they finally get to the end they come to a big curtain.
Zeb:"Alright kids are you ready for the last animal on our tour?"
Kits:"YEAH!"
Zeb:" Okaaaaay, hear we have my favorite animal my husband Alex!"
*Zeb pulls back the curtain to reveal Kallus standing in a terrarium without glass* Kallus: "Hello children:)"
The kids lose their shit.
When Zeb and Kallus first moved to Lirasan, Kallus was the first human many of the locals had ever seen. As a result many people had questions and some were not as nice about it as others (we've all read the other head cannons). But the kits were always more curious than judgemental. One day a woman made some rude comment about how weird Kallus looked to her and jow he "belongs in a zoo". Unfortunately for her Kallus loves this idea, who told Zeb who started volunteering the very next day.
The rest of the tour is spent with Alex answering all the questions the kits have about being human. Of course Alex get his favorite questions, the one the kids ask every year:"what's your favorite animal?"
Which he answeres by looking longingly at Zeb before saying "loth cats".
The kids all keep the cycle going of not telling the younger kids what Zeb's favorite animal is next year. And thus the legend is born

My #1 post of 2022
Okay so picture this:
Kallus and Zeb are on a mission together, Kallus does something clever to save the day. But suddenly troopers break down the door and storm the room. As they fight side by side together, Zeb catches Kal's eye, and before he can stop himself he blurts out
Zeb: Hey Kal! Marry me?*throws a storm trooper*
Kallus: Sure. Like now, or later? *shoots a Trooper inches behind Zeb*
Zeb *not fully comprehending what he just said, or the fact that Kal just just said yes*: um, later. But not much later.
Kallus: Okay sounds good.
Storm Trooper: what the hell-*Zeb smashes his face*
*they passionately make out for a few minutes before leaving*
And scene.

Inspired by the suggestion of @astralalmighty on the "possible reveals" post:
Zeb hates just sitting. He knows it's supposed to be an easy mission. He knows. It's something they've pulled off countless times before: put Kallus in yet another Imperial disguise, let him saunter into a base, and wait until he saunters right back out with a stick of stolen data. And yet, here Zeb is, anxiously tapping his claws against his bo-rifle as if this is the first time he's ever run an op.
It's reasonable to worry, he tells himself. Even though Kanan and Ezra hold the award for the most dramatic upsets, everyone on the Ghost has a tendency to wander into trouble. Kallus, as much as he'd like to insist otherwise, is no exception.
So when the commlink clicks on, and Kallus announces, "We've got a problem," Zeb isn't exactly surprised.
"Someone noticed me," Kallus continues, breath labored like he's running. "Another ISB agent."
Panic makes Zeb's hackles bristle, and he's upright before he's even aware of rolling to his feet. "I'm coming--"
"No! I can handle myself."
Faintly, almost lost under the commlink crackle, Zeb hears, "--not escaping your leash this time, Hound--"
--and then louder, Kallus snarling, "Oh, fuck off, Forty-seven!"
"Kal--"
"Stand down," Kallus snaps back. "I'm not letting you get caught by the Empire today." The connection breaks in a wash of static.
Zeb growls in frustration, tail curling tight. On one hand, he's seen Kallus fight, and knows that the man's far from defenseless. On the other--on the other, another ISB agent is a far cry from a hapless stormtrooper or an over-eager Jedi padawan. And Kallus has been off, lately. Sleeping longer, moving slower.
What decides Zeb, gets him moving towards the base, is the memory of their last spar. Usually, they're fairly evenly matched. This time, Kallus had gone down early, and gone down hard. It's not normal. And if he's not feeling right today, either--
--well. Whatever Kallus feels today, he's getting Zeb anyway.
This is a newer base, built into the shell of the local government's occupied council hall. Imperial architecture tends towards slick surfaces; it's a relief to have a multitude of carved handholds instead. All Zeb has to do is wait for a patrol to pass, scale the wall, and break in through a window.
He might not have any Jedi mind tricks, but he can stay unnoticeable if the situation calls for it. Especially in a place with vaulted ceilings covered with yet more of those wonderful handholds. Non-climbing species rarely look up.
The faint smell of human blood makes Zeb's lips curl back from his fangs. If that piece of banthashit has hurt Kallus--
Calm down, he tells himself, before he does something stupid like drop to the floor and start running. It could just be from the medbay.
More reliable than blood-scent is the whiff he catches of Kallus himself, tainted with echoes of anxious sweat. It leads him off from the main halls, a mixed blessing. There are no patrols, but the ceilings lower, taking away his hiding place.
Kallus' trail is getting stronger, but so is the blood-scent. Zeb can't help flexing his claws, wishing he had that ISB agent--what was it Kallus called him? Forty seven?--in his grip. It leads him into what used to be the building's administrative offices.
Here, he starts to see signs of a struggle--a scuff on the floor, a dent in the drywall, blood smeared on a statue's bust as if someone got their head knocked against it. Zeb's not a betting man, but he'd put credits on the mess being from one of Kallus' attempts at escape. Even slow and sleepy, their Fulcrum can be downright nasty when cornered.
Evidence of a fight aside, Kallus still hasn't checked in.
Every breath Zeb takes is tinged with copper.
"Karabast," he mutters, and giving up on caution, breaks into a run.
His nose leads him up a flight of stairs to another set of offices, and from there to the one at the end of the hall. Another time, he'd take notice of how it's the biggest, fanciest door, and scoff at ISB arrogance. Now, Zeb simply kicks it in.
And stops, his hindbrain automatically putting on the breaks at the sound of a guttural, inhuman snarl.
His eyes catch up to his ears.
He knows that form crouched over the ISB agent. He knows the shape of those eyes going wide in surprise, but he's never seen them like this--inky, encompassing black, like the space between stars in hyperspace.
"Uh," says Kallus, snarl dying in his throat. He sits back on his heels, swipes at the blood covering his lips and dripping down his chin. It's incredibly ineffective.
"When did you get those teeth?" Zeb says, dumbly.
"Uh," Kallus repeats. He's got no pupils, but Zeb has a feeling his eyes are darting to the side anyways, looking for words. His guilty grimace is the same, even with the addition of four needle-sharp fangs. "I can explain?"

Kalluzeb- To Have a Home
@icecream-dino47 asked: “Can you do a one shot of Kallus and Zeb from Star Wars rebels?”
My loves <3 thanks so much for requesting!
All requests are open!
WORD COUNT: 1126
XXX
“Last mission,” Zeb declares, sliding into the seat next to Kallus. The other man looks up at him, a quizzical eyebrow raised.
“Not quite,” Kallus frowns. “We still have that business in the Outer Rim Hera wanted us to do.”
“Right,” Zeb says, buckling his seat in preparation for takeoff. Kallus beings the launch sequence, reaching towards the controls. “Close enough,” Zeb shrugs, scratching the back of his neck. “We pack up, after this one, anyways.”
“That should be easy,” Kallus says absentmindedly, lifting the landing gear. “All my things are fairly consolidated.”
Zeb snorts. “Tell that to the inside of my cabin.”
“Your cabin, is it now? I seem to remember you grabbing my rucksack and telling me that “my space is your space, Alex-””
“Well, I meant you could have a drawer, not sort everything on the ship by color. Including my kriffing underw-”
“Alright, boys, are you ready? You’ve been cleared for takeoff.” Hera’s words cut through their bickering, the comms interrupting Zeb’s lament.
“Ready for takeoff, General,” Kallus says, disregarding Zeb’s snort at the title.
“Make us proud,” Hera says, a smile in her voice. She doesn’t protest at Kallus’ insistence on formality, though it’s unusual at this point. Over the years, “Captain” and “General” had simply become “Hera,” but perhaps she is sharing the sense of finality that’s overtaken Kallus. “See you soon.”
The feed cuts out, and Kallus guides the ship off the ground and into the air.
“So, Commander,” Zeb teases, leaning back in his seat, “what are the results of your search?”
Alexsandr remains silent while they leave the atmosphere, but Zeb allows him the time to consider his answer.
“Insignificant,” he declares finally, punching in the hyperspace coordinates. “Given that you already seem to have someplace in mind and I cannot find a single system that would satisfy us both.”
He punctuates his sentence by pushing the throttle, sending the shuttle into hyperspace. Zeb waits for his partner to elaborate, but instead, Alexsandr shifts, reaching behind him for his cane. Zeb stands, passing Kallus the intricately carved piece of wood, then offers his hand to Kallus. Minding his bad leg, Kallus raises slowly, then accepts Zeb’s arm. Together, they make their way towards the back of the ship.
They settle in next to each other, enjoying the quieted hum of the engine and the moment of peace, away from everyone else in the Rebellion. Hera had agreed to give them a smaller diplomatic mission, as it was one of the few things standing between the men and their retirement. Kallus was well-suited to it, having given up fighting after Endor (and the worsening pain in his bad leg), and was elected to accompany him for protection, in the unlikely event of high tensions and blasterfire.
“You think I have someplace in mind,” Zeb says. It’s not a question, and Kallus takes his hand before answering.
“I think you would have a better idea of home than I ever would.”
Zeb gives a surprised laugh. “I’ve lived on a ship most of my life, at this point.” He sighs, turning to look at Alexsandr. “My ideas of family and home have changed, Kal. Since Lasan… it’s been the Spectres and the Ghost, for me.” Zeb admits, placing his arm between his head and the wall and leaning back. “I never needed anything else.” He nudges Kallus with his free elbow. “‘Till you came along and changed all that.”
Kallus grins at him, a glint of humor sparkling in his eyes. But then, it disappears as quickly as it came, and his features harden and sober. Zeb’s nagging feeling returns, and he wraps an arm around his beloved, drawing him even closer. Kallus relaxes into the embrace, and his eyes close. Zeb waits another moment, and Kallus takes a deep inhale before opening his eyes.
“I’ve never really had a home,” Kallus says suddenly, straightening. “Not since I was very young.” He looks at Zeb briefly, almost sheepish. “I’ve just floated around from Imperial base to base, going wherever I needed.”
“You’ve had the Ghost,” Zeb says pointed, and Kallus nods. “Like me.”
“Even that was hardly permanent. It was… it is home, but it seemed so… temporary. Hera would need it somewhere, and we’d stay at wherever the Rebellion needed us. I never expected to spend the remainder of my life on Hera’s ship, at any rate.”
“So where did you expect to end up?”
Kallus laughs- it’s something closer to a scoff, and Zeb’s heart slows at the bitter sound.
“I don’t know.” There’s no small amount of frustration behind the words, but Zeb knows it’s not aimed at him. “I didn’t- I didn’t expect anything.” He swallows, hard, and when he speaks again, his voice is quiet, nearly timid. “I didn’t expect to be here. Alive, I mean.
“I never expected to live this long,” Kallus breathes, glancing at Zeb. His partner goes very still beside him, but Alexsandr continues after Zeb squeezes his hand. “With the Empire- I never expected to go to war. I never expected to be anything other than Agent Kallus, ISB. I planned to die as one of them, on some mission, or alone after a lifetime of obeying their cause. Even when my allegiance changed-” Kallus shakes his head. “Even then, I could never see a life of peace, after the Empire. I was confident that the Rebels would win-” Kallus’ voice trembles, and Zeb thinks of all the nights Alexsandr stayed awake, too anxious to sleep as he poured over mission reports. Zeb remembers how, after Scarif and Yavin, his partner barely ate or slept, fraught with nerves even after the Death Star blew, how Alexsandr never explicitly stated his belief that the Rebellion would succeed until the first night of victory on Endor.
“Right,” Zeb says, shifting closer to his partner. Alex inhales slowly.
“I simply didn’t think I would be a part of it. Not that I wouldn’t survive, even, I just- no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t picture it. I couldn’t see myself on the other side.”
“But you did,” Zeb says, a little gruffly. Kallus nods wordlessly and rests his head on Zeb’s shoulder.
“I did.”
“And now you have a family.”
“I do, Garazeb.” The lingering sorrow on Kallus’ face melts when Zeb smiles down at him. Zeb cups Alexsandr’s jaw, then leans in for a kiss, chaste but lingering. When they part, a low chuckle escapes Zeb- a light blush has spread across the man’s cheeks. Alexsandr rolls his eyes, knowing the observation his partner has just made, then ducks his head, nestling into Zeb’s shoulder. Zeb wraps his arms around his beloved, and there they stay for a long while.

two kisses | kal/zeb | 1600
>>HI, sorry i’m essentially dead, here’s some kal/zeb i wrote for @sempaiko‘s two kisses challenge back in FEBRUARY and then i mostly just? forgot? it’s not like. Real Fic. let’s not get excited.
coruscant / going out:
When the Empire falls—when it truly falls—Coruscant merely reels, briefly, then smoothly recovers, like a model missing her step. Though he isn't there to see it Kallus can imagine without any trouble the scenes his operatives describe, even without the ten-second holo clips of Mas Amedda gesticulating from some balcony: a week's panic-buying in the mid-levels; a few hours' looting above and below; ten minutes' weird silence, shouting, rifles fired into the air: and then, with barely any pause at all, the party swinging back into life. Orange becomes suddenly fashionable, and then in response Imperial gray; there are grainy images of statues falling—the same ones, he suspects, that had fallen after Endor—and clips of officers in half-undone tunics tearing off their rank plaques and throwing them out into the void, laughing. An heiress with a starbird set in crystals on her cheek kissing a shocked Alliance trooper.
It all looks much the same as it ever did, Kallus thinks, glancing down through the viewport of the well-appointed speeder they have hired; Coruscant is always celebrating something. Constant motion; light through smoke like a dream.
"How do you breathe," Zeb says, from the plush seat beside him, his eyes unfocused, shifting with the traffic: Kallus blinks.
"The filtration systems are very efficient," he says. The speeder rises a little, banks into a turn; he still recognizes the patten of ascent, somewhere in his joints. They are nearly at their destination. He flips the screen off on his pad, tucks it back into his satchel. Considers the odd tension in the muscles of his core: dismisses it. Only ghosts, waiting now.
"I'm not thinking about air quality," says Zeb. His eyes lift from the window to Kallus's face, and that look of concern slips away: a little hook of a smile touches his face. Kallus smiles back, a little. His heart beats like love.
"With effort," he says, after a moment. Taps the toe of his boot, lightly, against Zeb's calf.
They look at one another, for a little space of time.
And then the speeder is slowing, moving smoothly sideways into the building's private platform: some old instinct kicks in, and Kallus rises before he needs to, straightening his jacket, tugging at his shirt. Keeps his feet neatly as the speeder sways to a halt. Zeb watches him, cautiously: looks like he might say something: then his ears flick back and away. He hefts their single duffel—shared, now, always--onto his shoulder and follows Kallus out into the light.
"We don't have to do this," Zeb says, as they cross the platform, still briskly clean in the afterglow of war. "We can find a hotel."
"Nonsense," Kallus says, with rather more bite than he intends. Softens it, a little: "I ought to see what's become of the place, anyway," he says. "It's an asset."
"An asset," says Zeb, flatly, in that way that means he finds Kallus—incomprehensible. Why, Kallus can't say, not at the moment. On either side of the walkway the holographic water-features tumble light into empty air, half-convincing: dated, now, but not without charm. No one here to update them, now. The quiet hum of the generators goes on uninterrupted.
Behind him Zeb pauses, noticing something or other—the view or the architecture, both of which are exquisite, or were 20 years ago—but Kallus doesn't stop. Momentum, he knows, is always the key.
When he puts his palm to his mother's front door there is a moment where he is sure it won't work, as though some spectral force might have reached out of the afterlife to revoke his access—but of course it the chime sounds, just exactly as he knew it would, and the door slides open and the hallway extends, dark, before him.
The air is fresh: there is no dust. The little cleaning droids have been hard at work, he supposes, all these long years. When he says "wake" the lights come on, elegantly dim, and the heating system kicks itself into gear—the holoscreens on the walls brighten and shift to reflect his taste: neutral abstracts, faintly industrial.
Zeb notices none of this, because he is staring at the central column of the atrium, choked now with wild greenery, tangled with ten years' neglect: yet still alive, somehow; still thriving. A little world all its own. Mother would have been devastated, Alex thinks, at the mess of it.
He finds he is still standing far too straight. Relaxes, pointedly: lets out the breath he's holding.
Zeb shoots him a look.
"Nice place," he says, after a minute, in the cool clean silent air.
"Yes," Alex says, because it is. Tasteful. Subtle.
"You want to get out of here?"
"Yes," says Alex, because if he stands where he's standing too long some part of him, buried but not quite dead, still thinks his father is going to walk in through the door, in his dashing Republic navy uniform, and sweep them all into an embrace, him and mother and the girls.
This is Zeb, he thinks, at the empty apartment. You'd have liked him.
They wind up sixteen levels down at a party which has been going since long before the empire fell and will be going long after they have left: bright lights in the dark, a bassline that moves the floor, a smell like sweat and fireworks. Kallus has changed: the old sleeveless shirt he'd pulled out of a drawer a bit tighter than might have liked, now, and though he can't decide whether to take his jacket off or not he's still vaguely aware he's turning heads; not as many as Zeb is turning, shirtless, a head and a half taller than most of the bodies on the floor.
Zeb's hand on his shoulder, turning him:
"So," Zeb says, grinning, "You come here a lot?"
Kallus pulls him down into a sloppy dancefloor kiss, and then spins into the press.
+++
lira san / coming home
By the time Zeb makes it home from the hunt, across the bridge and up the ladders and across the swaying breezeways to this city in the treetops above the sea, it is mid-morning, and people are beginning to wake. A feast day: just a small one, the children excused classes, the more pious among the people saying an extra prayer or two at their shrines: for most merely an excuse to sleep a little late, in the pleasant warmth of the late spring day.
A good chance Kal will still be sleeping, in fact: and what a good thought that is, sliding back into the tangle of blankets against him for another hour or so. Maybe something more, if the mood takes them: he can picture Kal's slow sleepy blink; the warm softness of him under Zeb's hands. His flush, his bitten lip.
Alas, not to be: when Zeb comes up the ladder to their front hall the door is already propped open for the day, the lanterns lit in the darker corners, and somewhere a cheap tinny speaker playing music he doesn't know. He follows it through to the kitchen, and--pauses.
The light is coming in through the small high windows and falling like honey on the scoured wood floor, and everything smells wonderful, like spice and salt and hot oil: outside birds are calling, and the broad green leaves of Lira San are steaming in the morning sun. Alex is barefoot, leaning one lovely hip against the counter, prodding at something in a pot with a long, slender wooden spoon: he does this with the same exquisite precision he applies to everything, and Zeb has to stop and watch him for a moment, his intent look and his perfect poise: the way he tilts his head, just a little, as he focuses; the way his sharp eyes narrow. His loose trousers low on his hips; his honey-gold hair gathered loosely at the back of his neck. His stillness.
And then whatever is in the pot makes a sound, a little simmering rush, and he dives like a sea-hawk to scoop a fat dumpling out and nestle it amongst several others on the bed of steamed leaves beside the stove. He carefully selects the next, still raw, from the stoneware bowl at his opposite hand: lowers it neatly into the pot and watches, silent.
"Good hunting," he says, after a moment, without looking up from the stove.
"Yeah," says Zeb, who forgets after all sometimes that the light of his heart is such a spy. Pads over: the whole set-up smells wonderful and strange, full of spices he doesn't recognize--a few he does, from Alex's various experiments. "what's this?"
"Something for the feast," Alex says.
It's not that he's an especially talented cook, though he isn't bad: it's more that he does this as cleverly as he does everything, with such absolute determination, that he simply forces his way past any stumbling blocks. Tries again, again. He is absolutely terrifying with a long knife: utterly fearless, beyond any sense. Zeb is certain he's eventually going to lose a finger.
He settles his hands on Alex's hips: presses a kiss to the back of his neck. Another: just behind his ear, this time, where he's tucked that little piece of hair that always falls into his eyes. Alex leans back against Zeb's chest, making a small sound: turns, after a moment, in the circle of Zeb's hands, to smile up at him, crooked. He's lovely: no other word for it except maybe beloved. That too.
Zeb leans to kiss him on the mouth: deep, slow. The way he likes best. He tastes of salt and something sharply acid.
On the tinny speaker a woman sings in a language Zeb doesn't know, coy, beseeching, and another answers her, playful. Their voices turn around each other like ribbons.
The light comes in through the windows, and the steam rises.

The Colder the Winter, the Warmer the Spring - A Kalluzeb Fic (Chapter 19)
Y’know, in case anyone hasn’t seen this already. Though be forewarned, this chapter has killed several intrepid readers already.
Words: 231,190
Chapters: 19/25
Rating: E (mind the tag updates)
Relationship(s): Garazeb Orrelios/Alexsandr Kallus (Hera Syndulla/Kanan Jarrus, Rex/Ahsoka Tano)
Summary:
With that, the image widened and Zeb could see that Kallus was holding something in his arms, and as the Lasat inspected the image, he gradually began to realize that it was a baby – a Lasat kit.
"Zeb...help me."
"Oh, karabast."
Excerpt:
"Well, I'll be able to get outta here just as soon as you boys drop that gravity well," Kuross commented as he moved back toward the small family. "We should do this again sometime. I've been paid in full. Just gotta collect my bonus."
"If you don't plan to assist in this, then good riddance," Pryce snarled faintly at the man over her shoulder. "Take what's yours and go."
"Can do," Kuross said, almost more to himself, even though he was looking directly at Kallus, his deactivated vibro-shiv bared. "Really has been fun. More fun than I've had in a long time. Get a last good look at your lover boy?" the bounty hunter asked as he seized Kallus by the collar, yanking him in close. Kallus was too preoccupied with the way Zeb flinched between the two of them to worry much on Kuross himself. So he settled for glaring at the other man.
"Well, sure hope ya did. Cuz he's mine now, Kallus," the bounty hunter said, biting out his name in a mocking tone. As he spoke, his bared shiv drifted slowly upward, leaving Kallus faintly wondering if the man was just going to knife him and have done with it. "Him and me, we're gonna have so much fun tonight. Too bad ya won't be around for it."
"He and I...actually," Kallus pointed out in what was likely the politest 'kriff you' he'd ever managed, both correcting the man's grammar and disabusing him of the notion of just who it was who would next be with the Lasat in his arms.
Kuross just glared at him a long moment, the blade seeming almost to hover between them. But then his look of annoyance changed swiftly to a delighted leer. "Guess you won't have long to hold onto that memory anyway. Maybe ya oughta have somethin' a little more solid to remember 'im by."
Kallus realized what was going to happen only a second before it did, soon enough to feel horror, but too late to do anything to prevent it. Kuross flicked the knife away from him, seizing Zeb's right ear and cleanly severing it with a single stroke of the blade.
Kallus felt Zeb's scream more than heard it, the violent thrum of it reverberant within the very marrow of his bones. For a moment, he held the Lasat tighter, both to keep himself from crying out and to prevent him hurting himself further with his thrashing. All he could really do was crouch there on the floor, trying to keep his lover from moving too much while they were both painted in fresh blood.
Then one of his guards was kicking him, forcing him away from Zeb. Unthinkingly, he fought, struggling to get back to his partner, but his two guards soon had him, each holding one of his shoulders, keeping him pinned between them.
Kuross laughed as he watched the struggle, taking hold of the binders that still held Zeb's wrists. Then he tossed the Lasat's ear at Kallus' knees.
"No substitute for a real Lasat in your bed, granted, but I can't exactly go cuttin' off the parts I wanna enjoy, can I."
"If you ever," Kallus started, voice deadly as he gathered up Zeb's ear with as much dignity as could be managed, "presume to speak of him in such base terms again...I will do much worse than kill you."
"Worse? Heh, whatcha got in mind that's worse?"
"You lack imagination, Giren Kuross. Do not ask me. I may just answer you."
Again, the monster laughed, dropping Zeb's bound hands to come back toward Kallus, bending down close to him to whisper in his ear, "Y'know, back when I first doped him up, I had him thinking I was you. Got a bit of enthusiasm from our big, strong stud for that one. Maybe I'll do it again tonight. I'll drug his brains out; a cocktail much more interesting than a hallucinogen...somethin' to get 'im real hard for me. Then I'll kriff that noble Lasat guardsman straight into oblivion. And every minute our boy's buried balls' deep in me, I'm gonna make sure he's thinking of you. Let me tell ya, Kal, I am gonna be absolutely dripping with him for about a week."
In that moment, Kallus knew fury the like of which he'd never experienced before. Blinding fury and searing anguish, all of it burning at the heart of him with a cold fire.
"Elysh," he exhaled in rage, his body trembling with the raw strength of the emotion. "La garrir sir an li serra elyshi, gal ki an alela li serra morrai, an salf gantir shan asaval elyshahn gal or'salf ofirin. Ril san orra vasharyl. Tefsa elysh."
Kuross shook his head. "Yeah, me no speak Lasat, pretty boy."
Kallus sneered up at him. "It would do you little good now. From this moment on, all my vow needs mean to you is that you are a dead man walking. So take him from me. Run. Try to hide. It does not matter. You are dead already," he promised.
Glowering at him in anger and maybe more than a little fear, the bounty hunter suddenly seized the side of his head, fingers digging harshly into his scalp as he forced a hard kiss against his mouth.
"There," he bit out. "One last taste of him. D'ya taste him on me, dead man? Been a pleasure doin' business with ya, Alex." Then he delivered a painful blow to the side of Kallus' head, one that would've sent him sprawling had he not been in the grip of the two troopers. When the ex-Imperial managed to look up again, it was to see Kuross dragging Zeb from the bridge like a slaughtered hunting trophy, leaving a small trail of blood behind him.
"It's been nice knowin' ya, Alexsandr Kallus," the hunter said to him before the doors slid shut.

Here ya go, my last (as of now) drabble in its current completion (I'll gladly post the full versions of the others if there's interest):
Endor was, breathtaking didn't do it justice, but that's all Alex's mind could supply in the slightly alcohol-tinged after-battle haze he currently existed in. The celebration continued in all directions, revelers sprawled out eating, drinking and dancing their pride in victory. Some were long passed out either next to a fire or tucked away in one of the tree houses that stretched overhead farther than the eye could see. It was these arboreal huts that held Zeb's attention as they wandered aimlessly through the forest, arms loosely wrapped around the other's waist.
"What are you thinking?" He asked his lover quietly.
"Hm? Oh. Just wondering what it must be like to climb these trees. They're different than Lasan or even Lira San but I bet the view is really something."
"You could you know. Climb I mean. If you wanted." Alex caught his gaze then and held it.
"Nah. Couldn't leave you down here by yourself. And it's not like you can come with me." He stopped when he caught the grimace on Alex's face. "Karabast I didn't mean anything by that. I just figure you're going to have a hard enough time getting into one of these treehouses when we decide to bed down." Kallus' scowl deepened. "Ah kriff. I'm sorry Kal. Forget I said anything, yeah?" He stepped closer pulling Alexsandr to his side and they continued down the path. Suddenly, they heard a voice, very loud, very drunk.
"Agent Kallus! Alexsandr Kallus? 'S 'at you? It is! ISB's finest!" Zeb and Kallus turned toward the voice as its owner stumbled toward them.
"Solo", Kallus couldn't help bristling slightly. Zeb responded by straightening and pulling Kallus even closer. "Didn't realize you two knew each other." He rumbled, trying harder than strictly necessary to seem intimidating.
"We've had our...dealings." Kallus answered slowly.
"Aw come on is that all ya have to say? This guy", Han hiccuped, "He chased me across the better parts of space and a few of the worse ones! Never caught me though." He grinned, " 'S a pity you gave up. We had some fun back in the day."
"You had fun." Kallus corrected. "I had paperwork. More the further out you managed to drag me and my men. One wild bantha chase after another."
Han stepped closer to Kallus. "Like I said we both had fun. You always did love your protocol."
At this Zeb snickered, "He's got you there."
Kallus rolled his eyes but looked up and smiled fondly, "Whose side are you on anyway?"
Zeb didn't answer. Instead he addressed Han, "You wouldn't happen to know of any digs closer to the ground would ya? We'll want to get some shut eye at some point and climbing is out with his bad leg."
"Why not leave him to figure it out on his own?" Han asked. "Not like we have bunk assignments here."
"True", Zeb mused, "but we're what you might call...permanent bunk mates." He didn't explain further just let what he'd said slowly dawn on the other man.
"Oh...OH!" Solo sputtered. "So you two? Huh. Alright then."
"Why so shocked?" Zeb asked with mock innocence. "I thought you and the wookiee were in a similar situation."
"EXCUSE ME!" Han shouted. "CHEWIE IS MY FRIEND! NOTHING ELSE. FRIENDS, GOT IT? AND BESIDES-" Han suddenly seemed to realize he was shouting rather loudly, "Besides I've kind of got a thing with Leia."
"Oh right the princess from Naboo." Kallus supplied.
"Alderaan." Han corrected curtly.
"Right." Kallus said solemnly."Sorry."
"Anyway", Han coughed, "You were asking about the accommodations before. There are lifts on the side of a few of these huts. Platforms you can take to whichever level you want." He gestured to one of the lifts in question, a simple enough system. Weight was distributed in one direction allowing the raising of a platform.
Kallus nodded his thanks and they parted before more awkwardness could occur. Reaching the lift, Zeb helped Kallus step up before joining him and setting the platform in motion. About halfway to their destination Zeb laughed softly to himself.
Alex shifted to look at him, "What's funny?"
"The system this lift uses. Don't you think it's a little funny?"
Alex could only blink confusedly, "I'm afraid you lost me."
"It's a fulcrum." Zeb smiled, pulling him closer and kissing him deeply.

A/N Hi! Sorry it's been so long since I've posted another Kalluzeb drabble! Also sorry for the different format. I'm doing creative writing now at university and I wasn't aware of because Ii read so much American stuff, especially fanfiction, this but apparently stories are formatted differently in the UK than in the USA so I'm trying to use the British formatting more to get used to it. Anyways, I hope you guys still enjoy! Xxxxxxxxxx
‘Are you ok?’
Zeb watched as Kallus jumped at the sudden sound of his voice. He had been walking along the galley of the Ghost when he had noticed the ex-imperial frozen in front of the bathroom mirror.
‘Yes, sorry,’ Kallus replied with an embarrassed rub of his neck as he turned around. ‘It’s the first time I’ve seen my reflection since I left the Empire. Surprisingly there aren’t any mirrors in 10,000-year-old temples.’
Despite his teasing tone Zeb knew there was something on his mind. It was his first time out on a field mission since he hadn’t been allowed to leave the base, partly because of his injured leg but also because some of the higher up members of the rebellion weren’t sure if he could be trusted. Honestly, despite Zeb knowing that he wasn’t a spy he understood their concern and he knew Kallus didn’t either.
‘Kal, you know you can talk to me right?’ Zeb said as he entered the bathroom, closing the door behind him. It was a bit of a squeeze for two men of their size but neither of them felt uncomfortable because of the other’s close presence.
‘I know,’ Kallus said and for a moment Zeb could do nothing but stare into those golden eyes until he realised that he had continued talking. ‘I don’t know if you are aware of this, but I used to be quite vain about my appearances.’
Zeb snorted. Even from a mile away anyone who saw those muttonchops could tell they had taken a lot of effort to maintain. Kallus rolled his eyes.
‘Yes well, with everything that has been going on recently I hadn’t given my appearance any thought. I hadn’t realised how much I had changed.’
Zeb understood the meaning behind those words. It wasn’t just a physical change that the human had gone through. He still couldn’t believe sometimes who he was standing in front of his now was the same person that only a few months ago had been hunting them across the galaxy. Sometimes it was even harder to believe that somehow long hair and five o’clock shadow could make him even more handsome.
‘You look good,’ Zeb cringed once he realised that he had spoken aloud. ‘I mean… err… what I meant to say was that it suits you. You look like a proper rebel now.’
           ‘Thank you.’
Zeb watched in fascination as a dark blush bloomed on the parts of his face that weren’t covered by his glorious hair.
‘You know if I was still in the Empire I would have been kicked out for having my hair longer than regulation.’
           ‘Really?’
Absentmindedly he brought up a hand to stroke the now long locks of Kallus’ hair. He was surprised when he felt him lean into his touch. His hand was now cupping the side of his face that was still a blossoming red but now his focus was on the lines of puckered pink that created his lips that were moving ever so slowly towards him. All he had to do was lean down and-
The bathroom door slammed open and Zeb snatched his hand away as though his burning blush was a fire. He turned around to see Ezra in the doorway, his mouth open in shock. After what felt like an eternity one of them finally reacted.
‘You know what actually I can hold it in.’ Ezra squeaked despite him jumping from one foot to the other.
‘It’s fine. We were done in here anyway.’ Kallus said tersely marching out of the bathroom. Zeb quickly followed whilst took the opportunely to finally relieve himself. He caught up with him in corridor.
‘I’m sorry.’ he said grabbing his arm so that the other man had no choice but to face him.
           ‘For what?’ Kallus snapped.
           ‘For not doing this sooner.’
Before Kallus could ask what, he was talking about, Zeb leant down to capture the man’s lips in his own. They were everything Zeb had dreamed they would be. And it didn’t take long for Kallus to reciprocate the gesture.

Tales of Lira San chapter 5- Serenity
Kallus and Zeb enjoy a peaceful morning together.
Read it on AO3
Rain softly pattered against the ceiling, slowly bringing Zeb into wakefulness. Lazily, Zeb rolled over, mildly surprised to find Kallus’s side of the bed empty. The past few weeks had been a long uphill battle for the pair of them. Most nights one of both of them where awoken from a nightmare, both struggling to get any rest on those nights. However as the weeks continued to pass and the reality of peace finally settled in for both of them, the nightmares slowly became less frequent, and as the nightmares decreased, Kallus slowly started sleeping in later and later. Now most mornings, when Zeb woke up, Kallus was still peacefully sleeping, nestled in his arms. It was nice, really nice.
Finding Kallus was not in bed with him despite the early hour and the freezing weather both surprised and somewhat concerned Zeb. Did he have another nightmare and left to not wake Zeb up? Was his leg bothering him so he was trying to stretch it out? Concerned, Zeb quickly got out of bed and made his way to the kitchen, frowning when he saw it was empty. He was about to search the rest of the house when a thought occurred to him.
Curious, Zeb looked out the window, smiling softly when he saw Kallus resting in the swinging chair he carved for Kallus as a birthday gift, watching the rain. Zeb shook his head when he saw Kallus was only wearing his pajamas and a jacket and went back into their room to grab him a blanket before heading outside.
Much to Zeb’s surprise, Kallus didn’t seem to notice Zeb stepping outside, seemingly lost in the peaceful moment. During the war and even for the first weeks after, a storm like this would have sent the pair into a panicked frenzy to prepare for battle, not though the pair could simply sit back and enjoy the rain. It was a strange concept, but Zeb found he liked it. It showed just how far Kallus had come, how far they both had come. Zeb was loath to shatter the moment, but he knew Kallus’s leg was probably aching so Zeb softly said,
“Morning Kal, I brought you a blanket.”
“Oh Zeb, I’m sorry I didn’t hear you come out-“
“It’s alright, you looked so peaceful but I thought you might be cold,” Zeb assured, holding up the blanket.
“Thank you, I appreciate that,” Kallus said, smiling and lifting his mug of tea as Zeb draped the blanket over Kallus’s leg’s. “I planned only to stay out a minute or two but…”
“I know what you mean,” Zeb assured. “Mind if I join you?”
“I was hoping you’d ask,” Kallus admitted, beaming at Zeb who happily sat down next to him, draping an arm around Kallus’s shoulders who gratefully leaned into Zeb.
“Did you have a nightmare?” Zeb asked.
“No, I was just restless,” Kallus said. “I didn’t want to wake you with all my tossing and turning so I came out here. It was just so….peaceful though and it helped me relax….I guess I lost track of time, I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be,” Zeb said, “I’m glad it helped.”
“I’m glad neither of us had any nightmares from it….” Kallus admitted.
“Me too,” Zeb agreed, kissing his temple. “It’s nice being able to enjoy moments like this without all of that other stuff.”
“It is,” Kallus said. “Can I ask you something?”
“Um sure,” Zeb said, glancing at Kallus in confusion.
“I was wondering….if you wouldn’t mind of course and if you do I won’t be offended I promie-
 “Kal-“
 “Alexsandr,” Kallus burst out.
 “What?”
“My birth name is Alexsandr…my parents usually called me Alex but um,…I know it’s odd and um well I didn’t mention it sooner because I was so used to being just Kallus with the Empire and when I joined the Rebellion it seemed odd to ask to go be my birth name and I’d gone by it for so long I just didn’t feel the need to say anything but now we’re not in a war and I hoped- oh Karabast this is coming out all wrong I’m sorry I must sound ridiculous-“
“No you don’t,” Zeb firmly said. “It makes sense you’d want to go by your first name, it’s more personal. Thank you for telling me- I really like it actually…could I call you Alex?”
Alex beamed at him and said, “Nothing would make me happier.” Zeb leaned down to kiss him, freezing when he heard children giggling. “It’s like they know.” Alex grumbled.
“Maybe they do,” Zeb whispered, pecking his lips before glancing back at the yard where a group of Lasat children were playing, splashing in puddles and each other, laughing excitedly.
“I love those kids, but I am not going out in the rain,” Alex said.
“I wouldn’t let you,” Zeb said. “I know you’d regret it.”
“I appreciate your concern,” Alex said as one of the younger boys ran over and said,
“Mr. Kallus would you play with us?”
“Oh no I’m sorry I really can’t,” Alex said, “My leg would never forgive me.” The boy frowned and kneeled in-front of Alex saying,
“Why wouldn’t you forgive Mr. Kallus? He would just play with us!”
 “It doesn’t work like that-“
“Don’t bother,” Zeb said standing up, “His leg is stubborn, but I can play!” He added, scooping the laughing boy up and jumping in the nearby puddle.
“Zeb!” Alex cried, trying and failing to suppress his laughter. “You’re going to get soaked!”
Zeb merely shrugged and beamed at him, the sound of the children’s and Alex’s laughter filling the air. Sure he’d smell like a drowned loth rat all day, but seeing Alex laugh was worth it.
 ----
“I tried to warn you,” Alex chided and he rubbed a towel over Zeb’s face, trying to help him dry off. Zeb sitting on the floor with Alex on his knees in front of him. Zeb was freezing and soaked to the bone, but still had a wide grin on his face and despite his best effort, Alex was also grinning at him.
“But it looked so fun!” Zeb whined.
“What am I going to do with you Garazeb,” Alex teasingly asked.
 “Kiss me?” Zeb hopefully asked.
 “No, you smell,” Alex said.
 “But you love me anyways!”
“Maybe, maybe not,” Alex said with a smirk as Zeb wrapped his arms around his waist, pulling him close. “Zeb! You’re wet!”
“And you will be too,” Zeb purred before pulling him into a passionate kiss which, after a moment, Alex eagerly returned.

Humans Are Prone To Petty Illnesses
Summary: Kallus is a workaholic and still not used to the idea of a sick day.
Word Count: 1250
Relationships: Alexsandr Kallus/Garazeb "Zeb" Orrelios
Warnings: None, just a sickfic
Can also be read on AO3 here!
Kallus knew he shouldn't have bothered to try and work at his desk in the office. Especially seeing as he knew Christine just got back from a mission last night. He hoped to get more work done before she showed up and eventually sent him off, but at least this way he could smuggle some work to continue on in his bunk. He wasn’t sick, it was just… allergies.
He makes it back to his room and sits at the little desk he dragged in here after taking out the extra bunk. He figured that another bunk could be dragged back in if someone decided they'd be willing to bunk with him at some point. Until then, he will enjoy the ability to sit at a desk instead of on his bed. Having somewhere else other than where he slept (on the rare occasion he did) to sit in the room with a distinct purpose made it a little less depressing to hide in here all the time.
Zeb comms him saying that the mission went well and that they’ll be getting back tomorrow. He smiles at the thought of seeing Zeb in person again. The ghost crew have been on a series of missions over the last couple weeks that has prevented them from being on base for more than a debrief and a restock of supplies when necessary.
He gets lost in the files after that, his brain on autopilot as he works on unencrypting some files on a possible smuggling operation. He doesn't know how long he's been sitting there, but his back and neck are noticeably sore when he's brought back to the present by a knock on his door. His head feels like it's been stuffed with cotton balls and his throat hurts, but he’s worked through worse.
-
"Have any of you seen Kal?" Zeb asks as he gets to the intelligence office.
"Not since yesterday morning when I shooed him out of here after finding him next to dead from exhaustion." One of the officers says, Christine if he remembers correctly.
"He working on something big again?" Zeb asks, he doesn't remember hearing about any large intel coming in but it could have happened while the ghost crew was out on their last mission. The officer scoffs at that, leaning back in her chair and crossing her arms before replying.
"No, we haven’t gotten anything big in a while, I think he’s just sick and in denial about it. Taking on extra just to prove to himself he’s not sick y’know?" She says.
"He’s probably just used to it, I bet there’s no sick days in the empire." Another officer, Howard, pipes up from his desk a couple rows over.
"What do you want him for anyways?" Another one asks, which gets the attention of everyone else who hasn't tuned in yet.
"He didn’t show up when we landed," Zeb admits bashfully.
“Aw” Another officer that Zeb doesn’t recognize stops as soon as Christine and Zeb send glares his way. He shuts up and goes back to his work. Christine turns back to Zeb.
"He works in his room when he's not here, so you’ll find him there. If you go, can you tell him that by resting I meant in bed and not doing work at his desk? He doesn’t listen when I say it," Christine says.
"I can try, thanks" He says and the two share a knowing look before he leaves to the sound of the gossip starting up behind him and Christine trying to shut it down. Kallus only listens to Zeb a margin more than anyone else on a good day, and Zeb can tell today isn’t going to be a good day.
"Kal? Ya in there?" Zeb asks, tilting his head a little to try and listen to what's going on on the other side of the door. He hears some muttered curses and some scrambling. Before it goes silent, he's starting to think Kallus is going to pretend to not be there when the door opens.
Kallus looks tired. Zeb has to take a second look to ensure that it is in fact Kallus standing in front of him and not someone else. He looks worse than when he was in the empire, which was not something Zeb thought was possible.
-
Kallus startles at the sound of Zeb’s voice and scrambles to make himself somewhat presentable before opening the door. He’s greeted with the sight of Zeb and Kallus smiles at him. Kallus clears his throat before speaking.
"Zeb, You’re back! You said on the comms you weren’t gonna be back until tomorrow" Kallus says.
"That was yesterday, Kal" Zeb says with a tone Kallus has never heard from him before.
"What?" Kallus says, his whole mind stuttering to a stop. He swears that not that much time has passed since Chirstine kicked him out of the office. He talked to Zeb no more than three hours ago, not 28. Sure there's no windows in here but he hasn't lost that much time to a working daze since he left the Empire.
“Yea, think Chris is right” Zeb says and it takes Kallus a second to clue into what he meant.
“I am not sick” Kallus insists, ignoring the fact that his voice is noticeably sounding congested again. He can’t cough, if he coughs that means he's sick, and he’s not sick.
"You look like shit Kal, you clearly aren't doing good"
"Thanks but I'm fine, no need to concern yourself with such things, now if you don't mind I'm going to get back to work, I've almost cracked this one." Kallus says and steps back from the doorway with intentions of closing the door and returning to work as he said.
"No" Zeb says as he takes a step forward to block the door from closing.
"No?!" Kallus repeats indignantly before going into a coughing fit. Zeb steps into the room and closes the door behind him for some privacy. He knows Kallus doesn't like making a scene or show any ‘weakness’ around others.
“You’re sick.” Zeb states as Kallus’ coughing fit subsides and he slumps down onto his bed.
“I have work to do.” Kallus insists though a yawn. He’s losing the battle quickly. Now that he’s stopped working his body is catching up fast on it’s demands for rest.
“It will be here when you wake up.” Zeb says as he gently pushes Kallus to lay down.
“No it needs to be- just let me- I can do it- “ Kallus tries to argue and fight but Zeb manages to get Kallus standing before stripping him of his outermost layers and shoes. He then manhandles Kallus into laying down and tucks him in. It doesn’t take long after Kallus is settled for him to fall asleep.
“Not sick my ass.” Zeb says as he straightens back up from pulling the blanket over Kallus’ sleeping form. He grabs Kallus’ canteen from his pack by the door and fills it with water from the ‘fresher, placing it on the crate between the desk and the bed. He turns and grabs the datapads Kallus was working on before turning off the lights on his way out. He has a new mission: 1) Give the work to the other intelligence officers - they are more than capable of finishing it and Christine said there isn’t much work being done now; and 2) get some food for when Kallus wakes up.

Colors
@rainymeadows
“Common Kal, it’s Ghost tradition. You have to.” Sabine says, throwing a look to Ezra whose stifling laughter.
Kallus looks at Zeb, with desperation, but Zeb only nods solemnly. “Fine.”
Sabine clears the boys out.
“Aright Spector 7, pick your poison.”
Kallus frowns and looks at the various labels on the several bottles she’s provided. “This one.”
Sabine mixes the dye, “It’s a good color.”
She begins to paint his hair.
“Why do you color your hair anyway? I don’t mind it, just…curious. And the bright armor?”
Sabine shrugs. “When I was with the Empire everything was so…dark. It was grey and black and dull…I didn’t realize until I left. And when I met Kanan and Hera…it was like I saw color for the first time. I wasn’t going to lose that.”
Kallus would have nodded if her hands weren’t on his head. The color was the opposite of the Empire. Her own rebellion within a rebellion.
“I liked the Armor. Thank you. "His armor now had a Starbird on the collar bone in Orange and the fulcrum symbol on his back in a lime green. "You have talent. Thrawn himself complimented your work.”
Sabine was taken back by the news, but didn’t say anything.
“Done?” Kallus asks when he feels her hands leave his hair.
“Done.”
She leads him to the bridge and everyone doubled over in laughter. Zeb is beyond breathing.
“What’s so funny” Kanan whispers to Hera.
She can barely keep it together as she describes the bright turquoise sideburns that now grace Kallus’s face.
Kanan decided they’re are things he doesn’t need to see.

@emberkyrlee replied to your post “#OP YES #thicc kallus is absolutely where it’s at #normalize...”
I will happily consume whatever Kal content artists want to give. I love me some soft!Kal and I love me some abs!Kal. Just... gimme moar Kal!
I MEAN i respect all interpretations as valid & will similarly enjoy ANY kallus but like. i’m solidly on one side of this debate. (he had abs. he left with them with the empire.)
(the intake on Yavin IV is understandably hurried—there are people with far more serious injuries than his, and he has extremely time-sensitive information to convey to rebel command—but when a few months go by without anyone conducting a full physical, he wonders if he’s just been missed. perhaps he failed to present himself to the right person, or at the right time, and now he’s been omitted from the schedule; while it’s a blessing in a way—he’s always hated medical exams, he can admit that now—he's still aware that he ought to resolve it before his status declines any further past sub-optimal and someone of rank actually notices.
eventually he asks zeb whether there’s a particular process he ought to be following, but zeb just looks at him oddly: “is there something wrong? are you hurt?” and he has to explain that no, there’s nothing wrong—nothing beyond the steady new ache of his thigh, the old familiar one of his shoulder, the limited range of motion in his thrice-broken wrist—but no one has reviewed his physical condition in nearly a quarter of a year, and he isn’t actually trying to evade assessment. zeb seems far less concerned about this and far more concerned about his extremely boring list of old injuries, but he walks kal over to the medical centre anyway, flags down a cheerful pantoran medic on his break.
but then the medic just—hops up on a crate and asks to see his wrist. rotates it, gently—not even pushing it past the point of pain—and makes a face. scribbles something down and tells him to come back in a few days for an injection, once the next supply shipment comes in.
kallus sits there, waiting.
“something else?” says the medic. glances at the door, such as it is—just a curtain between two shipping containers—of the exam room. “we can find somewhere more private, if you like,” he says. “we’re a little strapped for space, but there’s probably an office we can use.”
“no,” kallus says. clearly the point hasn’t been made. steels himself: “i haven’t had a full physical since i arrived,” he says.
the medic blinks at him. “oh,” he says. “man, i forgot you used to be an Imperial.” kallus isn’t sure whether he ought to be pleased about that or not; it must show in his face, because the medic chuckles slightly. "it's a compliment, i promise." he snaps his glove off, tossing it into the makeshift cleaning station. "no, we don't really do than whole--regime thing. no time, and the 'optimal body' is kind of nonsense anyway, when you're a multi-species initiative."
some part of him wants to protest: all those years of careful metrics, of stress tests and caliper checks and dynamic rationing intended to maintain body mass within a specific three-point variable percentage window must have been for something. but the medic knows his business: kallus has learned that in the alliance people tend to. he sits there, looking blankly into middle distance, feeling--lost, a little. a little free.
"if there's nothing else," the medic says, edging towards the door. "come back when the supplies are in and we'll see about that wrist."
kallus puts on his jacket and walks out into the corridor, where zeb is still inexplicably waiting for him. "good?" zeb says, looking him over.
"good," says kallus. "i think i’m good.”)

Breathless (AU ending)
Kallus hadn’t been surprised when his execution was officially ordered. It wasn’t like Thrawn wouldn’t have ordered it when he returned.
Pryce goes for a classic traitors death. The Airlock.
Most executions were easy and quick. A firing squad of troopers. But for a traitor, the empire likes to see them suffer- or at least more than he already had.
They force Kallus to his feet and lead him forward. He struggles. He really does try to fight back.
By the time they reach the airlock Kallus can’t do much more. He’s thrown to the floor and the ray shield activates, protecting the troopers from suffocation. Kallus looks at the troopers and nears the button.
He takes a deep breath before being blown out into open space, and a war zone.
Kallus’s immediate reaction is that he’s cold. He’s not in control of his movements. Nothing to grab onto.
Help isn’t coming anyway.
Breathe slowly leaves him, Kallus panics slightly. He can’t breath. His lungs feel like their burning, as they scream for oxygen that won’t come. Black spots dance across Kallus’s eyes, and he grows more and more tired. Slipping into a sleep he won’t wake up from.
If this is death, it’s rather peaceful. __________
Zeb has a decent view of the battle. He focuses on the tie fighters making a pass at the Ghost.
They retreat as he fires on them. Another minute and they’ll be back. Something else grabs his attention. A man is floating in space, without a helmet. He’s unconscious or worse.
For a moment Zeb thinks the man is one of Sabines Mandelorian friends. Until Zeb sees the face.
   It’s Kallus.
“Sabine, Ezra. Kallus is out there too your left, behind the compressors. He’s not looking good…hurry.”
Zeb can’t do much but watch as Sabine and Ezra make their way to Kallus. Ezra grabs him and makes for the Ghost.
“Hera, open the airlock. Sabine and Ezra are coming.”
 “What?”
 “Just do it.”
Hera begins to talk about who gives orders on a ship, but Zeb has already left his post. Rex will cover them.
He sees them in the airlock. Zeb runs the pressurization sequence and runs inside. Kallus is limp and breathless. He looks blue. He worries that they’re too late. He reaches Kallus and searches for a pulse. He’s skin is so cold. He does find a pulse. Extremely faint.
“Sabine…” He asks. She begins compressions at a steady rate while Ezra grabs a med kit. Zeb hears the ribs crack, and cringes.
 He’s still not breathing.
Zeb opens Kallus’s mouth and tilts his head back slightly, holding his nose shut. He gently breathes into Kallus’s mouth. Zeb sees the chest rise, and does it again.
He steps back as Sabine begins compressions. “Karabast, wake up Kal.”
Zeb gives two more rescue breaths before Kallus begins to breath on his own. His pulse is stronger.
Ezra and Zeb lift Kallus and bring him into the infirmary. The Ghost enters hyperspace. They can’t do much but wait.
Zeb won’t leave Kallus. Instead Ezra goes to tell Hera and Kanan what’s going on. It takes less than an hour to reach Yavin.
Kallus stops breathing on the way there. Only to be revived again by Zeb.
Once Hera lands the doors are open and a med team rushes aboard. Hera shows them where to go. They force Zeb and Sabine out while they stabilize him. It takes another hour.
Zeb sits quietly outside, waiting. Ezra and Kanan sit with him. It’s agonizing and feels like days. Nothing to do but wait and see if he lives.
Finally they carry Kal out on a stretcher. There’s a mask so he can breath, and he’s covered with a blanket. The medical officer, a young Rhodian woman shakes her head. “I’m having them take him into our infirmary for surgery. Due to lack of air he suffered tissue damage, including the brain. Right now he’s comatose. I don’t know if he’ll come out of it. On top of that he’s severely dehydrated, is suffering from broken ribs, a punctures lung and major contusions on his torso and face. Do you know what happened?”
 “The empire.”
The doctor nods in understanding. Who knows what else she’s seen. “I’ll send someone when you can see him.”
It takes four days before they let the Ghost Crew into the infirmary. Kallus is still on a respirator and feeding tube. The bruises are mostly gone and the ribs are healing. The surgery to repair the lung had been successful. The doctor was optimistic.
“The last time I saw this happen…they didn’t live.” Sabine whispers. She was all too familiar with imperial protocol. What they do to people who defect.
“He saved me…at SkyStrike. Without him Wedge and I…”
Kanan puts an arm around her. “He’ll be ok.”
Everyone leaves but Zeb. He needs a moment.
 “Just wake up Kal…”
