I'm throwing myself into something I've never done before: podfics! Or rather, multimodal podfics, since it's also a video. With my face. Reading. Being seen. It's more than a bit intimidating. We're planning to do more videos like this in the future, with longer fanfiction, but as a warmup I went with a poem. It's this beautiful poem written by @aziraphalesbian , and I think you'll love it. In the picture, you can see my husband at work with the editing. He also did all the work with rigging our living room with lighting, sound and then coaching my nervous ass for over an hour before I managed to speak in front of the camera. I'm currently making the finishing touches on the video. Gonna have the text poem floating beside my head so you can read along. Posting later tonight!

Behind the scenes of our next vidfic, “Lost and Found” written by @moveslikebucky. Two weeks in the making, we’re finally posting it tonight!  The first image is the intimidating view from my reading chair. A brightass studio light, an indifferent camera and a microphone big enough to indispose burglars. 

A neat help that I’ve found is to colour code the character’s spoken lines. That way I know beforehand whose voice I’m going to read it in. Shadwell’s assigned colour was, of course, a grimy brown.

The second image is a peek of the final product. “Footnote!” We’re currently test-watching it, making “final” adjustments, test watching again, repeat. Stay tuned!

Some behind the scenes on the set of the recording of our very first vidfic. Featured are my reading chair, husband/executive director Tommy, and Ulf the cat/interior decor critic. Turns out that adding a visual element to podfics is a lot of work; finetuning the placement of myself and furniture, directing lights, adjusting camera focus, me keeping eye contact with the indifferent camera and Not Dying, and confining cats outside*. But it's also a whole lot of fun! The video is now in the editing stages, and will be uploaded within the next few days. Follow the tag "#appleduty vidfics" to stay updated. The featured fic is the hilarious "the legend of devils dyke" by @sameoldsorceress, and I think you'll absolutely love it.

*No cats were harmed. They made their dislike of the Changes of the living room clear, and were a lot happier outside, chasing eachother and chattering at the local hedgehog.
