The main focus of my collection lies within Event Pokémon. But from time to time, I‘m also collecting Aprimons. Aprimons are Pokémon which are caught in special Pokeballs. You may came in contact with them already. Since all special Pokeballs are not easy buyable, they are valued relatively high in comparison to other items. Especially, if you are collection shiny trophies, you‘ll come to the point that you want your trophy in a matching Pokeball sooner or later. Let‘s see which ways we have to get multiple of those special Pokeballs.
First things first, let‘s declare what can be considered as a special Pokeball:
All Apriballs, which are Fast Ball, Friend Ball, Heavy Ball, Level Ball, Love Ball, Lure Ball and Moon Ball
Dream Ball
Beast Ball
Safari Ball
Sport Ball
Actually, there are more than one possibilities to get most of them in SV. Only Sport Ball is limited to one option. And obviously, we‘re speaking about not-genned items by a random bot…
1. At the marketplace of Porto Marinada you‘ll get: Fast, Friend, Heavy, Level, Love, Lure, Moon, Dream and Beast - BUT those auctions are pretty rare and expensive. You‘ll need to farm money as well…
2. With the help of the item printer, you have a chance to get all - BUT the Pokeball lottery is random and if you’re very unlucky you’ll get nothing. Additionally, the item printer is DLC exclusive and you need to farm the new currency BP (blueberry points) which are way easier to farm if you do it with a group. However, the item printer is the only way to get Sport Balls in SV now.
3. PokeDex rewards include several of those special Pokeballs. If you own the DLC, you’ll get each except Sport Ball. If you do not have the DLC, you’ll get „only“ Fast, Friendly, Heavy, Level, Lure, Moon, Dream and Beast - BUT you have to fill your Pokedex completely and once you’ve collected the reward, you cannot get it a second time.
4. You can trade for them like I do it sometimes - BUT you do not know the origin of those items.
All those options have their own advantages and disadvantages. The most popular option by the player community might be the item printer. However, not everybody owns the DLC or a Nintendo Online Subscription and farming BPs on your own is very painful to get a useful amount of them in the end.
From my point of view, the PokeDex rewards are the most underrated possibility to get those items. Especially if you don‘t want to depend on others. Let me explain you why you should consider to farm special Pokeballs with this option.
If you have not yet, you should really work on a Living Pokedex. You can use random traded Pokemon or your own, whatever you prefer. You will have several advantages if you do it - just to name a few: immediate access to Pokedex rewards, the shiny charm, spotting a specific Pokemon if you have not seen it yet, etc. I own a Living Pokedex since Generation 6 (XY) and it helped me in many cases - but tbf, Pokemon HOME access is not always available with the release of a new game, however, it is available for SV
If you are preparing your Living Pokedex in HOME, you can easily swap the needed Pokemon from one save to another. Btw., it is not necessary to leave HOME and open your SV save so that the Pokedex entries are registered. Just save the changes in HOME and open HOME again to place the next batch into your boxes.
Except for a very small group of Pokemon, you‘ll get all with Let‘s GO Pikachu/Eevee, Sword/Shield, Brilliant Diamond/Shining Perl and Scarlet/Violet.
Some people are doing extra challenges - which are extra fun - like that all Pokemon are self-caught, collecting all different forms (regional and gender) or caught in a Poke Ball. Some even have the rule to catch each Pokémon in their original generation („Origin Dex“). Whatever you‘ll choose, it can be a big challenge with much fun.
Ok, last but not least, we need to clarify how you get all the special Balls to your main save. Unfortunately, this is the most boring part of it. You need to trade them from one save to another one by using a second Nintendo Switch. Fortunately, you can send over your HOME save to your second Nintendo Switch like all other game saves - I have done it here. Therefore, you do not need to subscribe for Pokémon HOME a second time and complete a second Living Dex as well.
And last-last but not least, I want to tell you a little secret. Well, it is not that much of a secret, but maybe not that obvious: Always, when I‘m preparing a save for redeems or Tera Raids, I‘m also completing the PokeDex with the help of my Living Dex. On the same time, I trade a few farmed Events for special Balls (my standard ratio is 1 Generation 9 WIFI Event : 30 special Balls). When I farm herba mysticas in various 5-7 Star Tera Raids, I always combine this with completing my Aprimon collection. And sometimes, I even use my farmed special Balls to just exchange them with Aprimons (my standard ratio is 1 special Ball : 5 Aprimons).
Sometimes, I‘m thinking about to ask straight for 150 Aprimons in exchange for 1 Event I‘ve farmed. But I think it is not reasonable to ask anyone to take that amount of time for breeding…

I accidentally introduced a friend to the concept of aprimons and now they want one for a spare shiny. I have a fastball 5⭐clodsire so I think I'm gonna start with that. Breed it with my main clodsire. Give it a list of only egg moves. thoughts?

Hey uhhhh I doubt any of my mutuals have it because I’m in a Minecraft circle this go round but if anyone here has one of the gen 8 games and online and wants anything in them (aside from shinies for obvious reasons but you can always ask I might have it in Home from when I hunted in gen 7 or from a few random encounters) either Pokemon or item just ask and I’ll do my best to help
#pokemon#today someone in a trading server asked if anyone had a shiny cramorant#i got one in random encounter wasnt even hunting#they offered a shiny skarmory and i accepted the trade and it turns out i actually kinda like skarmory's shiny so that's nice#but i also gave the cramorant a max mushroom to hold because i have too many#and the person was super happy they had been looking for shiny cramorant for ages with no luck#and then they saw it had the mushroom and got even more excited because they were working on gigantamax urshifu#and it was just so nice i made them so happy#gts is also fun since i can yeet random stuff at people and get aprimons or foreign mons or occasionally legit shinies#but uh. now i dont have any aromatisse to quick-fill my dex on my second file#so i'll have to look for one on gts i guess#my item collection is wild i dont have a full mint list and a few single berries but im pretty stacked#there are probably some comp items i dont have either#but i cleared the restricted sparring i have bp to burn if you really need something#if you take me up on this please do not ask for new legends#like i can hook you up with a kubfu i guess but please not the box legends eternatus the new regis or galarian birds#i dont have dupes for box legends want to keep my second eternatus#dont have regi dupes and dont have galar bird dupes#also most past legends are subject to me checking my home quantities#but i can almost guarantee that the swords aside from keldeo are available#if it isnt available to be placed into swsh it's still a maybe#it's just subject to me having nintendo funds for another year of bank and my patience to get it in gen 6/7

We've interacted in reddit a few times and I stumbled upon your blog by checking your carrd. I just wanted to say that yes, I do in fact not know you but I just couldn't help myself to write this ask. Without getting into much detail I understand how you're feeling, and as someone who's finally been getting better after almost a decade of absolute hell I can tell you that there Is worth in living short term goal to short term goal and even though it's hard I can get better. We've only had like 2 "conversations" but in all of them I've thought about you in a very positive way because of just the way you are. And I'm not just saying this. It's the reason I decided to check your carrd in the first place. I know there's not much I could say, but just keep going, okay? Fill that aprimon dex in both SWSH and BDSP, fill your shiny dex, wait to see what Legends:Arceus has to offer. Do small things that could make you even the slightest bit happy. Also do what you need to do for yourself, if you trust your therapist don't take it as something you need to fight against, take it as an opportunity. If you don't maybe it's tome to find someone else who can help you, because there is someone out there. I hope you have a good day today
Thank you so much for your kindness. I never got a notification for this, just had to open Tumblr and find it on my page. You have really made my day. I'm doing a lot better now than I was before Christmas. I'm definitely going to keep aprimon hunting and also, if you ever want to reach out off anon then feel free to. I love making new friends!

Aprimon - What Are They?
Tumblr media
Aprimon are Pokémon who have been caught in a special, hard to obtain pokeball. When a shiny is caught in one of these, it significantly increases the value of the Pokémon in trades because you essentially have a rare mon inside of a rare ball.
What are Apriballs?
Apriballs are hard to find, rare balls within the Pokémon series. They are generally made from Apricorns in the game, thus the name. However, a few other rare balls get lumped in with them too. Each Apriball has its own special attribute but these were normally used in the older games where they were more numerous. Now Apriballs are mostly used for aesthetic. Here’s a comprehensive list of Apriballs for your reference.
Fast Ball
Heavy Ball
Moon Ball
Lure Ball
Friend Ball
Love Ball
Level Ball
Dream Ball
Beast Ball
What are Bank Balls?
Bank balls are Pokeballs that were only used in older Gens, thus the only way you can get them into more recent games is through Pokémon Bank. That makes them extremely rare. Here is a list of bank balls:
Safari Ball
Sport Ball
Other Rare Balls
The last two remaining rare balls are the Cherish ball (animation pictured above), which you can only get through Pokémon distributed online and the Master Ball, which you generally get one of per game although Sword/Shield offers you more. These balls cannot be passed down by their parents and instead their offspring will be hatched into a regular Pokeball.
Cherish Ball
Master Ball
Why Is This Important?
Aprimon are considered “high value trades” even when they are not shiny because of the rare balls they are in. Most non shiny Aprimon are used to breed higher value, shiny Pokémon because parents have a 50% chance of passing down their pokeball when bred with a Pokémon in the same egg type and 100% when bred with a ditto. Getting an Aprimon for breeding is a lot easier than taking the risk of trying to catch your preferred Pokémon in a ball.
This is a big deal for Masuda Method users who often use foreign dittos because this will guarantee a 100% chance of passing it down to their potentially shiny offspring.
My Growlithe, Amaterasu, in a Fast Ball (seen in my trainer’s hand). These balls are also coveted for their unique animations upon the Pokémon’s release.
How do I breed a shiny Aprimon?
If you have some Apriballs or Bank balls (all resulting Pokémon are pretty much dubbed Aprimon regardless of the ball) the safest thing to do is go out into the wild and catch a random Pokémon in the ball of your choice. Be sure to save your game before you use the ball, in case the Pokémon breaks free. If it does, soft reset your game my closing out of it without saving. Your game should then resume back to the point where you had the ball and you can try again until you catch the right Pokémon in the ball.
Then, you’ll want to Masuda method with a foreign language ditto, if you’re breeding for battle optimally this ditto will have 5IV or better stats and be equipped with a destiny knot. All of your resulting Pokémon will be in the right ball!
Tumblr media
Ditto never has a hard time looking for love.
Alternatively...
If you have some of the older games you can just catch a Pokémon in one of the balls and then import it up through Pokémon Bank and then Pokémon Home. The only problem with this is you’re going to be very limited in which Pokémon you can choose because they’ll need to exist in both the older game and Pokémon Sword/Shield.
I used my Apriballs, does that mean I can’t breed for them anymore?
Nope! All you need is a Pokémon who is already in the ball you want. Breeders give these away frequently through wonder/surprise trade and on Pokémon forums like r/Pokemontrades all the time. I’m even going to be giving away some here from time to time!
That’s all for Aprimon! I know the concept can be a bit confusing, especially since it’s essentially a community term, but if you have any questions feel free to drop a comment or DM! Remember, the most important thing is that your shiny ends up in the ball you want! Happy hunting! ✨

Pokémon Home: Your Easy Source for Aprimon
Tumblr media
Now that you know what Aprimon are let’s talk more about how to get them and manage them using Pokémon Home!
Wow, this Beldum is in a Sport Ball! And it’s Japanese! It would be so easy to breed for shiny Beldum in a Sport ball with this guy.
Tumblr media
And look at this! A Milcery in a dream ball! Shiny Alcremie would look awesome with a dream ball. There are so many Alcremie varieties that would look awesome paired with this ball.
Why are all of these Aprimon popping up in Pokémon Home? Because these are people’s Breedjects while they breed for stats, shinies and various other things. All of the leftovers get sent out through Surprise Trade. These leftovers are awesome opportunities for prospective shiny hunters though! Most of the work on these guys are done stats wise, they’re already in an apriball and a lot of them are from foreign language games. They’re basically ready to go.
Tumblr media
I typically pick up between two or three Aprimon per surprise trade (note that if you don’t pay for Pokémon Home you only get three slots but it’s still worth doing). I trade all of my Breedjects here and in return I get new opportunities! It’s actually pretty cool.
Again, shinies in an Apriball are considered very high value trades! Having all of the starting work done for you is a big deal. Pokémon Home has been an amazing resource in that regard.
That’s all for this post! I hope this helps some of you shiny breeders working in Sword or Shield. Happy hunting! ✨
