maybe you think i left, and that’s okay.
i did.
but only after you left first.
i know, i know, it’s childish.
but what was i supposed to do?
i sat by my phone and waited
to twirl my hair in my fingers over
conversations about life and love
and everything that happens in between.
the phone didn’t ring, so i didn’t pick it up.
and isn’t that the saddest part?
i wrote a poem once that said something like
i threw the broken pieces on the ground
to see if you cared enough to pick them up.
but you didn’t.
i cleaned them up myself. my fingers bled.
i keep feeling like i should get over this,
move on with my life and cherish what i do have.
it’s just hard when you’ve held something so strongly
for so long
only to have to actively let it go.
as we all know, it’s not something i’m particularly good at.
probably because i grip people so tightly
sometimes it’s like suffocating.
at this point, though, i don’t know which one of us
is being asphyxiated.
anyway. i wish you the best, i guess.
don’t judge me too harshly for hoping
your life is a little less bright without me in it.

Rewrite the Stars

"Hee. Heeseung. Lee Heeseung!" your voice rang out in the icy night air.
"Yes! Sorry, baby I got distracted," your boyfriend's voice called out, immediately warming your chilled cheeks.
"It's fine," you laughed, "just help me up."
You reached your hand up and were immediately engulfed in the warmth of heeseung's large palm as he hauled you up onto the roof.
"Ah, there you go," he sighed.
You sat shoulder to shoulder in a comfortable silence, relishing in each other's company as you stared at the stars. It had been a while since you'd seen each other and it could be a while until you see eachother again.
Your eyes were drawn to a pair of stars that shone brighter than the rest and you began to think: Is this what they meant by star crossed lovers? Then I don't want it. I've always wanted a whirlwind love story but I never imagined something so sorrowful. Perhaps I should've been more specific, huh God?
Tears welled in your eyes and your nose began to burn at the thought. If only your family wasn't so average. If only you weren't so normal. Then maybe Heeseung wouldn't be so out of reach.
A soft hand brought you out of your reverie.
"Don't cry. Enjoy this moment. The stars are beautiful. Hey. Look at those two stars. That's us, shining brighter than everyone else. In time, nothing will be able to stop us."
You laughed bitterly, "How are you able to stay so positive?"
"It's because I'm so lucky!" He exclaimed.
You looked at him, confused.
"I've got the brightest star in the galaxy right next to me," he continued. "How could I not be positive when the mere thought of you can brighten up my day. I'm the luckiest man alive just to have known you. And I’m in disbelief that I have the opportunity to love you."
At this point tears were streaming down your face.
"Hee.." your voice cracked.
"Shh, love, it's okay. Let's just be together for now."
For now...
That's the problem.

He seems to think about trying to help Steve clean himself up, if the way his hand jerks like he’s going to try and wipe Steve’s arm off is any indication, but then he just holds the napkins out a little farther.

six years after the fact, you realize the closest you’ve ever been to being in love.
picture this: you’re 20 years old, he feels like warmth and safety and home, and he doesn’t know.
eye contact with him leaves your heart beating a little harder. when he hugs you, you never want to let go, and you hold on a little extra tightly while hoping he won’t notice. you laugh at all of his jokes even when nobody else does because you can’t help yourself. you take the long way to drop him off so you can savor the extra few moments together and are grateful when he doesn’t question it.
he is kind, and thoughtful, and genuine, and he remembers things about you even your closest friends sometimes forget. you hide in the shadows and yet he finds and sees you every single time without fail. he reaches for you in the darkness and pulls you back from it more than once.
you don’t tell him because you are afraid to ruin a sacred friendship. you don’t tell him because you are in a club together and don’t want to mess with the dynamics. you don’t tell him because you think you want different things, so what chance do you have, anyway? you don’t tell him because you are a coward.
you’re approached by a videographer a few years later who asks you to tell them a secret. you tell them this one. it finds its way online to millions of viewers and you wonder if he’s one of them. it brings you peace, in a way.
you don’t like to feel you have any regrets, but you always have to wonder what might have happened had you ever told him how you felt. you had the chance. you didn’t take it. after that… you didn’t have the chance anymore.
and now, six years after the fact, you realize he was the closest you’ve ever been to being in love.

I stumbled across your interpretations of the months and what BTS member you think correlates, and they made me so happy!
So.. all of my gushing aside..
September??? It’s my birthday month but I also haven’t seen anyone ask for it yet. 💜💜
September is nervous smiles and doodling in the upper corner on your notebook. It's new, clean clothes and racing hearts. It's chocolate bars split between friends and memorizing your locker code.
September is falling in love. Falling fast and hard. It's your head in the clouds and driving behind a school bus, all the while remembering what it was like to be the one on the bus. It's years prior coming up to meet the present.
September is the present falling in love with the past. It's Jeon Jungkook, with wide eyes and excited giggles. It's Jungkook in the way September promises something great on the horizon, and the way the world opens up a little wider in order to accommodate all the dreams people have.
September is sitting by the window waving at you from across the playground. It's making us learn, making us stretch and reach toward our potential.
September is the pillar that holds the year up, where everything ends and begins in the blink of an eye.
Don't blink, it's too beautiful to miss.

star & moon for the fic game!
somehow i have managed to avoid both of those in my WIPs 😫 but here’s some from a fic i finished, just because i had a hunch both words would be there lol:
star
They make a reservatiion at the nicest restaurant they can afford a few days before Steve’s scheduled to leave, though it means having to reschedule a previously-planned Star Wars movie marathon.

“I haven’t seen that fella around before,” Linda says. “Which is pretty weird, seeing as you look at him like he hung the damn moon, and he watches you the same way when you’re not looking.”

the outline of someone who never existed is missing from my life.
there is space for them - on my arm in photographs, on the other side of my bed, on the opposite end of the table, in the spaces between my fingers when i walk alone
at this age, it feels like the outline should have some shape, but it shifts and morphs with each breeze, each turn of the tide. my interests change and so too does its height, its build.
someone once asked me who my love poem was about. i told her… it was fictionalized. there isn’t a someone. there hasn’t been a someone. no one has been worthy of the title.
she didn’t believe me. she couldn’t understand that this person i yearned for, the imagined lover with the sunny smile and affectionate gaze was fake.
still, i used the outline of a person for all my love stories, everything i desire, from the safety and comfort to the not-safe-for-work.
there is an empty space. that’s all it is.

february 🥰
February is the boy that sits beside you in social studies. You never noticed him before, but something about the pinks and reds and purples littering the windows has you giving him a second look. It's shy glances and warm cheeks. February is daydreaming about color when the bleakness of winter is beginning to feel too heavy.
February is a log on the fire in the endless snow fall of the mountains, it's the hearts cut out of red cardstock and the way a child skips down the sidewalk in their boots. It's small moments in between lockers 323 and 327, where you feel like you might fly if that boy from social studies gives you another smile.
February is Hoseok inviting you to call him Hobi, and smiling at you like you're his whole world when you do. It's the sudden realization that the things you've dreamed about are capable of happening. It's the butterflies you feel as you're walking down the stairs in your dress and hear the doorbell ring.
February is like an oasis in the middle of a desert. Hobi is like a white flag of surrender, letting you fall into his arms rather than fall in battle.
February is the strength to go on, even when the warmth of the sun still feels so far away.
