Y: Ah there he is! Gouki! I was thinking of doing (instalive) together with Gouki. Did he get the invite?

Y: You know just yesterday, I was with Uchida Rio-chan and Inaba Yuu-kun (Kizzy). We were playing MonHun. And I said, I wanna do a High&Low collab since I’ve been doing instalive a lot lately. And I thought I wanna do it with Gouki.

M: But just now (Saotome) Taichi and (Nakajima) Ken-kun were going live with you too and I was like “Woah, they’re really doing it!”

Y: For some reason a lot of High&Low cast were doing it like one after another. And I was thinking of contacting you asking if you wanna do Murayama and Todoroki together... But I didn’t think it’ll come true this soon.

M: Sorry for suddenly dropping in!

Y: It’s fine!

M: But I’m happy to know that my name popped up eventhough I wasn’t there. Thank you.

Y: Not at all. You’re already an important part (of the cast).

Y: Considering the times we’re in I was seriously thinking that I want to do an instalive with Todoroki-chan.

M: Right now I’m entirely in a Murayama-style though. With my headband and all

Y: I was thinking about that too! I’m gonna try putting on glasses then.

M: My hair totally grown out like Todoroki’s now

M: That glasses look like Shiono Akihisa’s character though (lol) with the tinted sunglasses

Y: Ah, the one with chains, right

M: I’m gonna take the headband off for a bit

Y: The one where you pushed back your hair like this and said, “You talk too much.” That scene was so cool!

Y: Yeah where you went wham! to shut the other guy up. That was so awesome!

M: Ah, I know! How about the scene from the drama series for old times sake?

M: The line that goes “I don’t need your greetings.”

Y: You went bang!

M: It was... “Our leader is going around greeting other gangs...” and immediately after that line I went bam! And pushed my hair back a bit and said “I don’t need your greetings.”

Y: That scene was great too.

M: What was Murayama’s line during that scene again...

Y: What was it...

M: Nothing’s coming to me other than, “Let’s go, you assholes!”

M: Oh yeah, during the (The Worst Episode. 0) drama, there was that scene where (Murayama) lightly punched me in the chest, right.

Y: Right, right.

M: What was your line during that scene?

Y: The one I said to Todoroki-chan?

M: Yeah, yeah!

Y: AH! What was it again?!

Y: I think it was (same time with mdgk)

M: Wasn’t it

Y: I think it was “You have to uphold it...” or something.

M: Yeah, something like that!

Y: I can’t remember...

M: You were replying to something (Todoroki) said.

Y: “That’s how a Oya student should be.” I think it was something along those lines.

M: Then, how about that line at the start of the movie?

Y & M: (reading comments)

Y: “You should be using this (your fists) too.”

M: “You should look at the people around you better.” Exactly, that’s the line. It was something like that.

Y: I remember, I remember. “I’m here to lecture you.”

M: Oh yeah that’s right! You were lecturing (Todoroki).

Y: “Look at the people around you better.” Yeah, that’s how the script goes.

Y: The fans remember our lines better (than us).

Y & M: Everyone’s amazing.

Y: Thanks to your help I’m starting to remember.

M: I think it’s interesting that when Murayama was talking, Todoroki didn’t say anything at all.

Y: Todoroki was properly listening to Murayama and taking it in, wasn’t he! Surprisingly.

M: Yup, yup. That might be it.

M: He probably didn’t like it when (Murayama) revealed his bad points.

Y: (reading comment) That’s it! “If you’re an Oya High student...”

M: YEAH THATS IT

Y: But I still can’t remember much of the remaining lines after that (lol) Sorry!

M: But really... For Yuki-kun to think about Todoroki to that extent. I’m really happy to hear that.

Y: Of course I’d consider about him too.

M: “If you’re an Oya High student, you should try thinking using your fists more...” THAT’S PROBABLY THE WHOLE LINE, RIGHT.

Y: Ahh, that’s right!

M: “Just having a strong fist isn’t enough.”

Y: “Go back and learn, idiot!”

M: Ahh, I remember that line.

Y: Brings back memories, doesn’t it?

M: I was really scared when you flicked my forehead the first time.

Y: LOL

M: It was terrifying, really! Your fist was really close (to my face) and then suddenly you changed your hand like this. I thought you were holding a weapon or something!

M: I was really freaked out!

Y: Was that, did we did it all of a sudden?

M: The forehead flick wasn’t written in the script in the first place... And during filming you just put it in, if I remember correctly...

Y: Yeah, I was going for a punch..!

Y: But then I thought, this (using a fist) isn’t what Murayama wants to teach to Todoroki, thats why I changed it to a flick instead.

Y: And then in the THE MOVIE, Todoroki-chan did it back (to Murayama), tying it all back to that original scene.

M: Ah, yes, I thought it was fitting.

Y: Thank you for that, really.

M: The director mentioned that too.

Y: I’m really grateful that you did it.

M: Someone commented that “Murayama has a lot of wise quotes”, exactly!

Y: Then, please choose any line you like.

M: Is it okay for me to choose?

Y: Of course. Whichever you like

M: *reading comments* Are you okay with the time? Sorry for taking so long

Y: Not at all. I was planning on being live or around an hour or so

M: There’s quite a lot of lines that I want to say

M: Ah, but I definitely wanna say “Todoroki-chan~!”

Q: I want Tsurugi-kun to take up cooking lessons

TSURUGI: … (starts talking about Jimmy’s cooking) Jimmy is really good at cooking. And sometime ago, around 2 years before, he cooked (pad) kra pao for me.  Wait, no, he cooked khao man gai. He gave me some and it was really really delicious. See, the cute thing about Jimmy is that, he’s good at a lot of things, but he’s bad at accepting compliments. I kept praising him “Bro this is so good!” and such and he just [insert beatboxing]. That’s all, next question please.

Q: Please tell us your first impression of Jimmy-kun and Weesa-kun

TSURUGI: Oh, these kind of questions are nice, sorry my head’s kinda itchy. (Not scratching head because of the question). My first impression of them, right. In Jimmy’s case, he’s a student from EXPG Nagoya branch, while I’m from the Osaka branch. And there are times where we participate in live shows (together). I’ve always been good friends with FANTA’S Shota-kun and we talk a lot. And Jimmy was that kid who was always there behind Shota-kun and Nacchan. I never talked with Jimmy directly until we worked together for (EXILE THE SECOND’s live tour) Route 6.6. Yeah, I think that was the first time. Because before that I mainly talk with Shota-kun but never with Jimmy, if I remember correctly.

High&Low The WORST X Kick Off Event Translations

Cast Introductions (Oya, Senomon, Kamasaka, Ibara, Housen)

a.k.a the time when Tsukasa grew a mohawk, Be:First got a new member, and a grandma got lost in the venue.

TL note under cut:

- This kick off event was originally streamed but the video is no longer available. But you can still find bits of it on youtube.

- Suzuran part is not here because I have a separate video for it (introduction + cast interview). Which hopefully will be done sometime soon (cross your fingers)

- I originally translated this earlier this year and only got around to sub the whole thing now so please forgive the inconsistencies 🙏

- I was also contemplating on just keeping the fun parts and leaving out Kamasaka & Ibara’s introductions, but I love The Rampage so…they get to stay. Icchan and Makochan i am doing this for you

- “How are you so sure that it’s Maeda Gouki laughing off screen?” Because I was a Todoroki fan since the start of highlow and I have been a Maego fan for the past two years consuming literally every work he’s done, I listened to his radio in his fanclub, I have heard him in a romeo&juliette musical. I damn well know Maeda Gouki when i hear him.

HIGH&LOW EASTER EGGS: MERCY’S HOUSE

In another post, I highlighted that most graffiti in the movie’s backgrounds is a reference to Exile Tribe songs, but in this post I want to focus on easter eggs that’s actually related to the characters in the series.

In Mashii Takehiko’s character profile from the official website, it says:

Suzuran Boys High School 3rd Year student who is also known as Mercy. He lives in a small rundown apartment together with his mother in Toaru city. He has been best friends with Raoh ever since Jr High School and one of the few people Raoh can open up to. Academically smart, Mercy is more than capable to apply to a better school but decided to follow his instincts and enrolled in Suzuran with Raoh. Peculiar guys started gathering around the two, and before they realised, the elite Raoh Faction was formed. He is known as the calm and collected No.2 of the faction. His personality is alike to Housen’s Odajima. The two get along and sometimes exchange information with each other.

The picture above is the scene where we are introduced to Mercy’s home.

If you look closely, the room on the right is full with graffitis, and if you look closer, you can see Mercy’s name written on the walls.

TL note: One point breakthrough is something from Sun Tzu’s Art of War. It has no relevance whatsoever. The person who wrote it probably just wanted to write the most sophisticated phrase they knew and it’s not even the full phrase.

BUT!

In the next scene, we see that Mercy’s house is the one next door, 102.

Which brings the question, why are all those threats and graffitis written at the wrong house?

My personal headcanon is that the Mashii family originally lived in Room 101. They probably had some financial problems and started getting harassed for the owed money. So instead of directed to Mercy, the graffiti around their front door were probably threats for the Mashii family in general. At one point they decided to run away to a different city (or so they say), except that they just moved next door. Notice how they make it look deserted with random things and accumulated trash in front of the house.

I also think that the broken doorbell for 102 is a way to make outsiders doubt that anyone lives there and only Mercy’s the one who answers the door (in case their cover is blown, he could somehow manage whoever that comes).

But I don’t think that the ‘Die Mercy’ graffiti was written by the money lender, instead its probably done by a different party (someone who got their ass beaten by Mercy in the past) who just thinks that he still lives there.

Tl;dr: high&low real lores are stored in the background walls 👍
