How they met is generally up to discussion, but I've always felt like they may have met on one of Sage's calls as a paramedic. They met in their early twenties and it was pretty much flirty love at first sight. Her not-quite-yet wife was probably loosely injured (aka scratched) in some soft of bigger situation and after Sage insisted she check her out just to make sure she was okay, she offered a follow up appointment to check in later. That check-in ended up being a date at the local bar and the rest was kind of history. They dated, fell in love, ended up married in their mid-twenties and started trying to conceive soon after. Using IVF, some help from her wife's best friend, and a lot of their savings wasn't easy and they inevitably suffered a few false starts and a loss that caused them to start to feel like it just wouldn't happen for them — and then came Ruby. Ruby Diane Franklin was absolutely everything to them and they did their best to dote on her as much as they could. Being a mom was second nature to Sage and she absolutely loved being one to Ruby. They ended up having six amazing years with their daughter before an accident with a friend's family during a playdate on an icy road in November ended her life. Sage's station was on call at the time and they were the first ones to the scene to find everyone involved DOA. This played hard into the quick unraveling of their marriage, both Sage and her wife having guilt beyond belief for different reasons. While her wife held it together well, Sage crumbled and refused to even get out of bed for the funeral. Six months later, with no end to the spiral in sight, her wife left and Sage's sister, Asher, took over trying to pull Sage out of it. After four years and a surprise pregnancy knocked Sage out of her grief, she finally got up the courage to file for divorce. But what became of that is entirely up for discussion, as is what the maybe-ex-wife has been up to since. It's been a total of seven years since the accident and two and a half years since she filed for divorce. Sage is under the impression the divorce was finalized, which could be the truth or it was possible that her wife never filed the papers from her end. Totally open to making things as messy as possible.
