'Falling Through History' is a collection of photographs in which Bill Armstrong draws on a series of figures from Western art history to reveal the psychology of falling as human consciousness. Many of the images may allude to darker stories such as suicide, accidents or imprisonment. But Bill argues that falling is actually part of the practice, and it can also be joyful. The endings of falling are often extreme on both sides, and the tension that the uncertainty of falling creates in the viewer is something Bill wants to explore in his work.
Bill's work gives me a strong visual reference and his intention of the work is also interesting.

Bill Armstrong
Armstrong created these images by setting the camera focus to infinity and taking purposefully unfocused images. He then made collages by photocopying, cutting and painting over images. After all of this, he retakes these as blurred images so the scene looks real. The objects and identities remain mysterious, and this technique emphasizes light, tone and colour.
