mochi’s bioactive tank is done!!! 💚 i added substrate, plants, and the clean up crew today. i’ve got morio beetles, blue powder isopods, dairy cow isopods, zebra isopods, and white springtails in there! mochi moves in tomorrow, i wanted everything to get settled and let the humidity lower a bit before he gets introduced!

mochi dug himself a burrow under one of the pieces of bark 🥺🥺 the main reason i went bioactive was because i learned that leopard geckos love to dig, and i felt bad that he wasn’t able to dig in his previous tank..
it makes me soo happy to see this 🥺💖

it has begun!!!!!!!!!!!! i’ve siliconed in the fake rock backing i made into the tank! and set up mochi in a temp enclosure.. where he’ll be spending the next two days 😢.. a little cramped in there but he’s got his heating pad, tiles, and 2 hides he’s familiar with so hopefully he won’t be too stressed 🧡

started on my DIY rock wall today. measured out the backing so it fits into the enclosure, and made a few of the main platform “rocks” where mochi can climb up and sit. i still need to shape them and add lots of little rocks and details around everything. then i can cover it in grout and start painting!

so i've spent my entire sunday evening researching isopods.. i had no clue there were so many different species lol.. i’ve only ever seen the classic grey ‘potato bug’ around here
i've picked out 2 that i plan on introducing to mochi's bioactive set up! porcellio laevis 'dairy cow' (left), and armadillidium maculatum 'zebra' (right)! they both look pretty cool, and should do okay in the setup i'm building.
