Even though the grass doesn't stay alive that long in bioactive enclosures for some reason, it's really good for the isopods. I've witnessed some species climbing up to the top of the grass and munching on it.
Crunchwrap Supreme is now settling in this enclosure, which is her adult 4X2X2. :) She still has lots of growing to do but there's no harm in upgrading now
MY GIRL UMHA finally in her much needed upgrade! That’s how her inclosure started, had to take the sedum out bc aphids hatched out on it :( I’ll need to root it in treated soil and give it a month or two.
+ Ulu who got upgraded too.
Ghost, Sythe, and Zim are all officially moved into their new enclosures! Sad to say the moss didn’t quite make it, but I’m going to keep it in for decor/humidity reasons. For their part, the boys seem happy with their new accommodations, and that makes me happy!
First go at trying to setup a bioactive enclosure for our young ball python Shivers
I included a false botton with leca pebbles, a substrate barrier mesh, a layer of activated carbon, cocofiber substrate, leaf litter, live golden (devil's ivy) pothos plants, springtails, and isopods.
Any suggestions on how to improve this setup would be greatly appreciated.
(Inside a large lizard enclosure, a plant has been chewed down to a few struggling leaves and stems. Beside it, the lizard flicks her blue tongue at a paper sign that's being held in front of her. The sign says I EAT THE POTHOS PLANT ALMOST AS FAST AS IT GROWS.)
If looks could kill. She poked her head out today for the first time in months. Have a feeling she’s going to go back to sleep. She most likely was seeing what is going on because I was watering her plants today.
I redid dax's tank this afternoon! I don't think I've changed up his tank since last summer? I went plant shopping yesterday and grabbed a fern and a viney plant to add in there since a few plants had died off. Otherwise it's all the same stuff just shuffled around 🐍 added some fresh organic dirt too.
This likely won't be his forever home since he'll get to around 10 inches one day, but he should be totally happy in here for a while!
[ID: Five pictures showing the process of Matcha the brown mainland chahoua gecko's new bioactive enclosure. The first picture just has soil and branches in the enclosure. Then the second has plants and a hanging cork tube. The third has the addition of decorations (rope bridge, feeding ledge, water ledge and hide) plus lighting. The fourth shows Matcha now in the enclosure, hanging off the edge of his hide. The fifth shows a close up of Matcha on his hide with his head resting on a branch.]
Behold, my yet unnamed child! (Though I'm currently leaning towards Kevin)
My cousin breeds Crested Geckos and knows how much I've always wanted one. I had been talking with her about them, researching terrarium set ups, etc. for months but ultimately decided not to get one for Christmas because it was so close to my surgery.
She came up today so we could finally exchange gifts for our kids and she walks in with this handsome little boy! Established, bioactive terrarium and all! He's so chill and I already love him so much. 🥺
