So it鈥檚 been a really long time since my last post. I am posting now hoping to get some answers to a couple questions I have about lighting in planted bioactive terrariums. I have two 18x18x24s. One is a crested gecko and the other is a gargoyle gecko. I feel like maybe I am overthinking, I have researched quite a bit and have found myself even worse off knowing what to get. 馃珷
Currently I have mini deep domes on them. They have ceramic heat emitters in one side (attached to a plug that turns it off when the thermometer reaches 75 degrees F) for winter as my house gets really cold for them. I鈥檇 like to keep these if possible as I have found them to be incredibly useful for heat without light at night when it is coldest. The other side has Reptisun 5.0 for uvb on a timer. They are not planted yet.
So here is what I am hoping for:
-Keep CHEs
-Have UVB available
-Will keep my plants healthy
-Will not make temperature too hot
It seems so simple but feels so hard LOL. I am willing to purchase different fixtures for whatever will work best. I am open to any ideas.

If looks could kill. She poked her head out today for the first time in months. Have a feeling she鈥檚 going to go back to sleep. She most likely was seeing what is going on because I was watering her plants today.

my first bioactive set up that i'm granting to my leopard gecko, Nilla Wafer once it cycles. Considering getting one or two more plants and another hard scape piece to give more climbing opportunity.
ignore the janky plant light. i gotta secure it lol

So I got into aquascaping and terrariums. Here's some progress photos of my first bioactive terrarium attempt.
First established in April, the plants were a little underwatered. Oop.

The Wardian case I made. It is 14"x9"with a height that slopes from 8" to 10". This is an arid set up, planted with purslane and will get some Spanish moss from the sticks and a portulaca up front. It will house Twinkleberry, my GBB tarantula, when he's grown.

Terrarium making is my new hobby. I got addicted to watching videos of people making them on YouTube and just had to start making my own. This one is waiting for a springtail and isopod delivery to make it bioactive. I鈥檓 really proud of it! My first terrarium build and I feel like it turned out so beautiful. Can鈥檛 wait to see it grow and change.

Refreshed my snailarium today, and got it moved upstairs where I spend most of my time these days.
Hopefully the larger amount of sunlight will let some of the plants and mosses grow a bit more rapidly. (indirect sunlight, don't worry!)
I wasn't as diligent with their care through the winter months as I should have been (the fucking symptoms) and didn't notice that my hydrometer had broken until the spring... When everything was much, much drier than it should have been. Lost the two adults over the winter. Not sure if it was from the dehydration or if they reached the end of their lifespan, as they were wild caught.
Right now I can see one juvenile made it through, I'm hoping there's a few more. There's a special kind of regret that comes from failing creatures in your care... I never want all the sneggs to reach maturity, but I also don't want them all to fail. A tough line to walk.
In either case, having them up here where I can see them every day should help me keep a better eye on them.
The springtails and assorted tiny helpers are doing A+ though! And there's at least one inch+ centipede prowling in there. I'll probably search the park to see if I can catch another for it.

I went a little wild with the plants and here's a special mention for a plant native to Hachi's natural range 馃憖

Alright here鈥檚 what the tanks look like. Thanks for everyone who gave me lighting recommendations.
In tank #2 there鈥檚 pothos planted in the back that you can鈥檛 see, I鈥檓 hoping they grow in strong so there鈥檚 a little more going on at the top. I also vastly underestimated the size of that cork round in the middle oops. It left very little room for planting.
You can really see where the dirt failed to stick to the background in tank #1 lol. I did the background in that one about a year ago. There鈥檚 also a plant in the back behind the larger log that you can鈥檛 see. I鈥檒l maybe get some type of magnetized planter to hang on the emptier wall.
Al the plants seem to be doing really well in there already so I鈥檓 happy with that. I鈥檒l maybe post an update in about 2 weeks. :)

Pulled all her plants and moved things around. Ignore her empty water bowl, it wasn鈥檛 filled when I took the photo. It was filled right after.

I'm getting 2 garden snails next week
So here is their enclosure or vivarium
It's bioactive! There are springtails in here and ill be getting dwarf white isopods once I make the leaf litter and I also still need to get the cuddlebone
The plants are a variety of mosses I found here the only one I know for sure is juniper haircap moss the others are common mosses found in New England
The larger plants are English ivy and string of frogs/oak leaf creeping fig
The enclosure is a 8x8x8 exoterra which I got on sale
Edit: I also want to get some sticks for the snails and the plants to climb
